1 Engine Funny Noise problem of the 2013 Kia Motor Optima

Failure Date: 12/15/2020

I was going down a road in my town lpga in daytona beach, when all of a sudden I heard this weird sound then my accelerating stopped even though I had my foot on the gas. The car engine would not accelerate even though I had my foot on the gas it finally slowed down where I came to a complete stop got to the side of the road and all of my engine sensor lights came on and my car engine will not roll over or even start my battery just turns on. It's as if it's just stopped working completely no one has given me a answer the tow driver is the one who told me that kia Optimas were having recall issues on they're cars with exact problems like mine. I love my Optima I take really good care of it so it really hurts that there isn't much I can do about my car.

2 Engine Funny Noise problem of the 2012 Kia Motor Optima

Failure Date: 12/03/2020

I was driving to pick my kids up when I slowed down to turn a corner the car started making a weird noise and kind of jerked some. I picked up 1 kid pulled out of the parking lot when the car jerked again and barely was moving, even though I was pressing on the gas. Then my display flashed hybrid system failure and I was able to drive another 200 yards to park safely and that was it. My husband went to pick it up later with a trailer and oil was pouring out of the under carriage although I didn't hit anything and there was no reason. This is the replacement motor in my car, in 2017 we had an engine failure as well due to some kind of bearings. I haven't taken it in yet, it's in my driveway waiting to see what the newest recall is. Seems to be a common failure with kia.

4 Engine Funny Noise problem of the 2011 Kia Motor Optima

Failure Date: 09/06/2020

While driving on a highway in oregon, my car stalled and made weird sounds out of nowhere. On a broad curve, my car slowed down quickly and luckily there weren't any cars behind me. There was no warning that the engine was going to fail. I tried to pull over safely to the narrow shoulder and let the car cool down for a little bit. I tried starting it again and the engine sounded like rocks in a blender. I have taken great care of my hybrid and has no history of other issues and it only has 89,000 miles on it. The mechanic said the engine needs to be replaced and that it is a common problem with the 2. 4 l theta ii engine from my car's year.

5 Engine Funny Noise problem of the 2013 Kia Motor Optima

Failure Date: 04/06/2020

In the late morning of Monday, April 6th 2020, my husband was driving our 2013 kia Optima sxl home from the store when the car began filling with smoke. Luckily, he was able to pull the car over and jump out before flames began to engulf the front of the car. He called 911 and the fire company was dispatched. Their response time was short, but it took under a minute for the car to go up in flames (see pictures attached). There was zero warning that this horrific event was about to occur. No engine light, no funny noises, no problems whatsoever. In fact, I had just brought the car into our local dealership for routine service less than a month before on March 9. They gave me no indication that there was anything wrong with the car that would cause it to catch on fire. We filed a claim with our insurance company, who confirmed the car was totaled and listed a recent, but as yet unannounced, recall on my exact year, make and model of the car. After some research, I found that according to a February 27, 2020 article in us news and world report, kia would shortly be recalling nearly 142,000 2013 and 2014 kia Optimas. Furthermore, kia says a fuel hose can deteriorate and crack due to engine heat. The hoses can leak and cause fires. A fix is still being developed. The recall is expected to start April 16. although at the time of the article no fires had yet been reported, given the sudden nature of our car fire, it is obvious to us what has happened.

6 Engine Funny Noise problem of the 2015 Kia Motor Optima

Failure Date: 12/29/2019

I was driving on the highway when my car stopped without any warning. I got it towed to a repair shop. It started back up and running but was making a weird noise coming from the engine. I drove the car home and took it to a repair shop to get a diagnostic check and the engine oil was very thick. I just had an oil change 2 month ago. I have only 104. 000 miles on the car and I took very good care of the car.

Failure Date: 10/01/2019

When taking off at a stop light or getting onto the interstate (basically when accelerating) the car feels like it has no power. You can hear a weird noise and sometimes you will smell burnt oil or something burnt. Also, I had a recent oil change and within the month I had to add oil again. There is no sign on my driveway that there is a leak. Please look into this as there are multiple people with the same issues.

10 Engine Funny Noise problem of the 2012 Kia Motor Optima

Failure Date: 12/12/2018

I've been maintaining the health of my 2012 kia Optima ex since I purchased in 2014 like clockwork. Last month, I experienced all the dash lights come on while in motion on city roads and I was unable to use the gas pedal. I frantically pulled over and turned the car off then tried to start it, only to be met with a weird sound and a cloud of smoke from the hood. My starter was fried, according to my mechanic. I had it towed to my mechanic and when he changed the starter, the new starter burned again as well as the engine locked up/seized. After finding out a recall (sc147) was active at the time, I called kia consumer assistance and they replaced the engine issues after confirming that was the problem. Once I picked my car up, I noticed the car was starting up in an odd manner but thought it was due to the engine replacement. About 3-4 days later, my car did the exact same thing as the first time (same smell, sound, and smoke cloud but luckily I was parked at the time). I assumed the starter would be a part of the recall since it broke down the exact same time as the recalled engine, I took the car back to kia, who told me they wouldn't pay for a new starter even though the engine recall caused it to burn up in the first place and is considered a component of the engine. I contacted kia consumer again and the case was given to an escalation manager. I had to speak to about 8 different agents and put an email in action to her supervisor to get her to even contact me on this issue. It took her almost a full month to contact and tell me kia is not responsible for the starter. I'm confused as to why it would not be covered because I've never had an issue with my starter until the engine failed. I am at a loss as to what I need to do to get kia to see who is really at fault. My mechanic also stated this is the 1st time he's ever seen those 2 parts break simultaneously.

11 Engine Funny Noise problem of the 2015 Kia Motor Optima

Failure Date: 05/28/2018

I have never had any problems with my vehicle since the day I bought it brand new. I make sure to get regular maintenance and I am not a harsh driver. I was driving about 50 mph on a 2 lane road. The light ahead turned yellow and I slowed down to stop. Once my vehicle came to a stop at the red light, it made a weird noise like it was going to cut off but didn't. The light turned green and I began to press the gas and it seemed as if it was stalling and would not accelerate as quickly. The engine light, battery light and oil light popped on so I pulled over immediately, turned my car off and waited about 5 minutes. I crank the car back up and the only light remaining on was the engine light and my car started making a knocking noise every time I pressed the gas. I proceeded to go home and decided since it was a holiday I would take the vehicle to the dealership the next day. I went to crank my car up the next morning and the knocking noise had gotten louder. I started driving it to the dealership about a mile from my home but it turned off at a right light. I was too afraid to try again so I called aaa and had it towed to the kia dealership. Since I was still under the 100,000 mile warranty, the engine was approved to be replaced. Two weeks later, I received my vehicle. This issue was very sudden and unexpected being that I have had zero other problems nor did any hazard lights appear on my dash beforehand. My VIN was checked for engine recalls and did not appear to be on the list.

12 Engine Funny Noise problem of the 2014 Kia Motor Optima

Failure Date: 02/11/2018

On Sunday 02/11/2018 my car died getting off the highway doing 70mph. I was able to get to a safe place car is a 2014 kia and has 46,763 miles on it. Had it towed to the dealership. It's also part of the recall notice I received 10/04/2017, 17v224. Call kia 3 times on 02/19/2018 first time I was saying that my car still wasn't fixed from the long block that was replaced on Thursday that was still making funny noises and that there was a sweet burning smell. Was told by the 1st person I talked to give it time and it will work itself out. That sweet smell was the oil burning off of the engine that they just replaced and that it was no big deal. I call back not even an hour later to say my heat stopped working they told me that I would have to have a diagnostic run on it and then it will cost me $99 and if they determine wasn't part of the engine work they had just done. That person made a 10 a. M. Appointment for 2/20/2018. Since my heat wasn't working I had to keep using my wipers and fluid, because the defrost wasn't working. When home I went to put more windshield wiper fluid in the car I noticed that they did not put coolant in the car which is needed to cool the engine so it doesn't seized up stall or blowup. So when they replace the engine they didn't put coolant in the car which is needed. So now I'm having the car towed back to kia so they can make sure that this engine isnt shot now also. That's also the reason the heat stopped working I'm sure. I've been driving this car since I got it back on 02/15/2018 with no cooling probably driven it 20 hours since I'm a lyft driver. So after they put in a replacement long block because of the recall this Thursday 02/15/2018 they didn't put coolant or antifreeze in the car so ii blew the new engine and also messed up my starter. Had it towed back to the dealership 02/19/2018.
