My car have been reading mechanism error on the radio for 6 months. Recently my lightbulb went out then the other,, I didn't have 100 a piece so I used high beam now one of those out. My backseat interior light out which all is fine I'm assuming jus need replacement. I was driving down the highway when I saw smoke then a loud pop my steering wheel locked up,, brakes in all I barely made it off the road the wheel was so tight. I get out to a exploded tire tore up bumper and fender. Eps engine light along with a few others are on. I get my car towed get the cracked rimmed fixed and proceeding to fix bumper and fender because I naturally assumed bad tires. Today I'm driving again I suddenly see smoke then the entire car shuts down. I've tried a boost everything came on except the engine. I tried putting the key in the side compartment still nothing. All lights are on,, on the dashboard engine tire pressure etc. I really can't say what's the problem but this is the second time it has happened. I'm losing money and my car. I'm without a car as of now. !.

Was driving on a city street. Came to a stop at a stop light. Proceeded to go on green and on a main busy road my car shut down completely and all my lights came on in my vehicle. As I pulled over onto a side street my car began to smoke and smell like it was burning. My car would not start back up. . Had to have it towed to 2 different shops. It is currently at the dealership waiting on a new engine and we have been for over 2 months now. Getting very aggravated as nobody can tell me when my car will be done. The dealership keeps telling me they cant find an engine for it. Which I find a little ridiculous. Somebody needs to tell me something or pay me blue book value for my car and keep it. This is not my fault as this a recall on my car that seems to be an issue all over with them.

I own a 2015 kia Optima lx. This past weekend, I was driving home when my car just shut down. I then had to coast to the side of the road due to the car had no power. I turned the key off, and tried to restart the car again. But it just click once and that was it. It never would start again, I had the car towed home and put in my driveway until the next day. I called jeffery kia the next day and had the car towed to them. After two days, the service manager called and told me that the engine had seize up and needs to be replaced. The car is only two years old with just under 60,000 miles and has a full warranty. But the dealer stated that since I did not have them do my oil changes that they required me to bring them receipts from other places to prove the oil was being changed. I told the dealer that I do my own oil changes, due to I don't trust oil change establishments. The dealer then requested that I bring them receipts from where I bought the oil and filter to prove that the oil was being changed. I told the dealer who keeps receipts like that!!! why would I keep receipts for oil that I bought at a auto parts store. I didn't think I would have to keep such receipts. But after doing my research concerning this issue with this make and model of kia, I found out that this is a known problem. Back in 2014, kia and Hyundai both recalled 1. 2 million vehicles for this same issue. And it appears, that it is still no corrected. They should be the ones to cover the cost of the repair for this issue, since they knew about it from the start and failed to do anything about until it affected tons of innocent buyers.
I have a 2015 kia Optima that completely died on me on 4/1/18. We were waiting to turn into a business parking lot and the engine just shut off in the turning lane. We tried jumping it and it did nothing. It was towed to the dealership the next day and before they even looked at it, they were saying the engine probably seized and said we need to get our oil change records together because we needed a new engine. They proceeded to try and blame it on us as we did not go to the dealership to have the oil changed. Who would think to save oil change records?! we've owned many different cars and never had to do this or ever had our engine seize. Kia will most likely refuse to replace the engine, even though it is still under warranty. To replace the engine, we were told it would cost $7,000 and possibly take up to a month to complete. I still owe money on this car and can't do anything with it. Since we're a one car family, we were forced to go out and buy another car last night. I'm disgusted with how we were treated and will never buy another kia again. They should be paying off my loan because they were well aware of the engine issues in the 2011-2014 Optimas, and still sold us a car that was possibly defective.
Tl the contact owns a 2011 kia Optima. While driving on the highway, the engine power reduced and the vehicle shut off. The vehicle was unable to restart. The vehicle was taken to koons Volvo cars owings mills (9610 reisterstown rd, owings mills, MD 21117) to be repaired per a manufacturer recall for the engine, but the remedy failed. The vehicle was not able to be safely driven. The manufacturer was notified. The failure mileage was not available.
This happened twice. The first time my son was driving the car to austin TX on the freeway when the car shut off while driving about 60mph. The we had the car toed to a local mechanic and after he checked the motor we were informed the motor seized up. I purchased a used motor at a junk yard with 22,000 miles and the mechanic installed it. Dec. 26 2017 we spent christmas in austin TX and was on our way back on i10 around sealy TX the motor shut off. I was able to start the car up again. I found a kia dealer in katy texas and decided to take the car there, it was about 8 miles away however we didn't make it. I stayed in the right lane driving really slow 55-60mph and there was a loud pop and then smoke the motor locked up. The car is at the kia dealer but I am still waiting for an authorization to get he engine replaced,.
Takata recall. As I was driving on the highway, my car stopped on me during traffic flow. This has happened more than five times and I was almost killed with my small children in the vehicle. We have been suffering with this issue for over a whole year. On July 3,2017 my mother and I was coming home on the fwy and once again, during traffic flow, my car shut off while driving on the road. Luckily, I was able to pull over to get a safe spot before I crashed because there were so many cars coming behind me so fast and the side ramps we're very narrow. I have taken it in for servicing but for some reason, they are not able to find out what the problem is. I have taking it in and even left with them for almost a whole month at one time and still no diagnosis. Rental car after rental car. They installed a data recorder in my car and the first time they found no data, then they installed it again for another week and they claim that it was the fuel pump relay. So they installed a new fuel pump relay in my car. A few weeks later my car shut down again on the way coming home and in the freeway with my mother and 2 year neice. We we're almost killed. The car just shuts off while driving and says "goodbye" with no warning while driving this is how I know that this has something to do with the engine. Please help if you can. I do not feel safe in this car and we are in danger. Sometimes the lights in the car cut on and off too.
On Nov 18 2016 while driving down a major highway my car just shut off. All the lights light up on the dash and before I pulled over , I was drifting to the side of the road. I gotten the car to ancira kia in san antonio TX where it sat till Dec 28 2016 before receiving a call. The dealership had said the warranty would not cover what had happen. The first excuse they said was due to sludge in the engine. After providing receipts showing the car maintenance, they said it was due because I let my car seat for a year while I was deployed. After asking how this could be if the car wasn't moved, they said they found metal shavings in my engine. Kia had my car close to 60 days fighting with me on why they would not fix my car. It forced me to trade the car in so I can go to work and provide for my family. My question is, if there's a recall on my car how would I go about failing paperwork ?.
Driving down road 55 mph engine shut off had towed to dealer. Engine seized from faulty connecting rod replacment engine 2 month back order.
While driving down the road all the lights on the dash came on, the rpm''s dropped and the car shut off and would not restart. Got it towed to the kia dealership they called said it was my starter. My fiance stopped by there said it's no way it was the starter. The service tech put a breaker bar on the motor and it was locked up tight.
On 09/19/2016 I purchased a 2014 kia Optima lx from kia of cerritos. Unfortunately, the vehicle has not been satisfactory because on 09/19/2016 I got home, parked it in front of the garage (still on), and it shut off by itself. I turned the car back on and it blew out white smoke, I turned it off immediately, and called kia this next day to have it inspected at the dealership on 9/20/16. They said they needed to replaced the engine. Prior to this, the car was working normally, no dash lights, or anything that would signal the car breaking down, kia of cerritos is unwilling to fix it under warranty and they're saying the cost for repairs is $6,585 and Kia Motors of America declined the repairs, I've been with this car only 2 1/2 years.
On September 7, 2016, I was driving down the highway at 70 mph in my 2011 kia Optima when all of a sudden the engine shut off and all of the lights on the dashboard came on. I could hear the engine rev slightly when I stepped on the gas, but the car would not accelerate. The engine just shut off. It was 7:30am when this occurred so luckily there were not many cars on the road yet. I was able to get the car over, however, because the engine was off, the breaks would not work well. I was finally able to get the car to stop by continuing to hit the breaks and applying the emergency break as well. Kia recommends oil changes every 7,500 miles, however, I usually have mine done every 5,000. I had zero warning signs that something was wrong with my car. The last oil change was performed on August 31, 2016, and the mechanic that performed the change said everything looked fine. There was zero smoke coming from the engine or exhaust and no "knocking" sound in the engine. I had the car towed directly to the dealer. Once there, we tested the battery and it seemed a little low. Mind you this is a new battery purchased from costco about 2 months ago. We tried jumping the car and after trying to start the car a 3rd time, the engine started shooting out black smoke and had a foul smell to it. Several hours later, I received a call from the dealer authorizing $280 to open the top of the engine so they could take pictures and send it to kia. . I searched on the internet and found several other 2011 kia owners experiencing a similar issue and was just told by a friend the same thing happened to her 2011 Optima as well. Looks like Hyundai had the same issue and it is the same engine as the kia and had a recall. My car had 101,500 miles (mostly highway miles) and the only issue I ever had was to replace a clockspring in the steering column about 6-months ago.
Car has been maintained with regular oil changes every 3 to 5000 miles. Car was not giving any issues until two days ago when the engin shut off while driving. We restarted it and it was knocking loudly, sputtering and squealing. We towed it to a kia dealer the following morning who ran diagnostics and said the engine is blown and full of sludge. They won't honor the warranty since we can't provide every single oil change receipt since the day we purchased the car. We did provide what we could as we lived in a few states with the car and didn't always use the same shop. The car was in motion when the vehicle just completely shut off without and warning lights.
The contact owns a 2012 kia Optima. While driving approximately 65 mph, the engine shut down without warning. The vehicle was coasted to the side of the road and would not restart. The vehicle was towed to a mechanic. It was diagnosed that the engine seized and needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was not notified. The approximate failure mileage was 94,000.
When ideling the engine would start sputtering. Mechanics said it need an oil control value and it may fix it, but they couldn't do that because the warranty would not cover it, because I couldn't produce all the service records. I took the car because they said the engine light was off, but as soon as I got in the car the light was on. They said the couldn't do anything. Once I got the car home and drove it for one day the car would be running and just shut off. When turning or ideling. I took it to another kia mechanic they put in the oil control value (some how it was covered under the warranty). The mechanics said it might fix the problem. It did not fix the problem and now kia is saying it needs a new engine and kia will not replace it even though I have an extended warranty. They said since I could not produce all the maintenance service records they would not cover it. I call kia corp, and esp warranty and they would not do anything. At this time I filled a compliant with the state of maryland consumer protection division. I have gotten a hold of a non-kia mechanic and he said that he has heard the kia was having problems with their engines.
My 2015 kia Optima has 26,456 miles. The last oil change was performed at 26,064 miles. On 6/4/16 while driving approx. 50mph in 3 lane traffic the engine seized up, car shut down and interior filled with smoke. Had vehicle towed to kia. Was told it needs a new engine due to sludge in the oil. Kia is refusing to honor the warranty because I cannot produce receipts for previous oil changes. I have researched and many other kia vehicles are having very similar problems with low miles! there has to be something wrong that kia is not aware of or is just not willing to admit. Not only will they not fix my vehicle but I fear someone is going to get hurt or even killed. I informed kia of my concern but they did not seem to care.
Driving the vehicle through an intersection at approximately 45 mph and engine just shut down/off. Thankfully, we were able to pull to the side of the road. Had the vehicle towed to a kia dealership. Service dept had the vehicle for 2 days and weren't able to diagnose the cause or problem but notified me that I had metal shavings in the engine. They changed all fluids and reset the computer, so the vehicle would run, but when they test drove the vehicle, the tech said it still wasn't running smoothly. They said we needed a new engine for $7000, or else we could just drive the vehicle until it quit running. We drove the vehicle for about another 100 miles while trying to decide whether to repair or replace, and vehicle seemed to be running fine but then suddenly shut down again. We had purchased the 100,000 mile warranty, and vehicle was at 110,000 miles. We were able to show routine maintenance and oil changes. After researching, we realized that these are the same engines and same "metal shaving" problems that were found in the Hyundai sonatas, and Hyundai has issued a recall for vehicles under 10 yrs/120,000miles. Kia is having same problems from the online comments/reviews, but they haven't issued any recalls.
The contact owns a 2012 kia Optima. The contact stated that while driving at approximately 70 mph, the vehicle shut down in the middle of the road, without any warning indicator. The vehicle was pulled to the side and was towed to a local dealer the following day. The technician diagnosed that the engine needed to be replaced. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was 94,000. The VIN was not provided.

While driving 70 mph on the highway my 2011 kia Optima engine shut down and would not accelerate and the brakes would not function. Luckily, I safely made it to the far shoulder of the highway only to find that my car was smoking and smelled like something was burning. Had to get the car towed to the dealership and they informed the engine needs to be replaced and the starter is also fried. I have seen four complaints so far of 2011 kia Optima's with the same issue and am sure I will find more. That seems like too much of a coincidence that it happens so frequently with these models and there isn't any sort of recall. No breaks at 70 mph is pretty dangerous. I have contacted my attorney and hope this manufacturer will do the right thing.
I was driving at 40 mph when suddenly the engine shut off. I lost all brakes and steering and luckily was able to coast to a nearby safe place. When I attempted to restart, the engine would not turn over. I brought it to a nearby mechanic and after a thorough inspection starting at the starter, they determined the engine was seized I have done regular scheduled oil changes the life of the Optima. The engine only had 130,000 miles and the oil explanation was possible bad bearings from factory in the on the crankshaft. This is ridiculous and when I called kia they gave me the run around with no explanation. Its over $4000 to replace with another used motor with no gaurantees that the used install will be any better. Kia really needs to back this with a recall. I refuse to pay for factory defective components out of pocket. Nor will I continue making payments on a junk car. Not only is this costing me hardship but now possibly my credit score!!.
I was driving on freeway engine light came on vehicle stopped engine shut off I had to coast to side of road. It quit shifting after it stalled. Had to be towed home. Kia dealer in ontario California can't find what is wrong they want me to pay 1600. 00 to change battery cables, battery and fix shifter.

The contact owns a 2006 kia Optima. The contact stated as she was driving at 60 mph all of the warning lights came on and the vehicle shut off in the middle of the road. The contact tried to drive the vehicle to the side of the road so that it could be towed to the dealer. The dealer would replaced parts on the vehicle but the vehicle would continue to shut off. The crankshaft sensor had to be replaced three times but that was not the cause of the failure. The kia manufacturer was called and stated that they do not cover any parts that are not under the warranty. VIN was unknown. The failure mileage was 2,000. The current mileage was 78,000.
