The airbag control unit ("acu") detects crash severity and commands deployment of the advanced airbags and seatbelt pretensioners when necessary. The acu contains a certain application-specific integrated circuit ("asic") that may be susceptible to electrical overstress ("eos") during certain frontal crash events. The condition is limited to frontal airbags and seat belt pretensioners in certain frontal crash events. Safety risk if the asic becomes damaged, the frontal airbags and seatbelt pretensioners may not deploy in certain frontal crashes where deployment may be necessary, thereby increasing the risk of injury. Remedy kia has advised its authorized dealers to install a wire harness kit between the acu connector and vehicle harness connector in your vehicle. The work will be performed at kia's expense at no cost to you. The actual time required to perform the repair will take approximately one (1) hour. However, your vehicle may be needed longer; therefore, we recommend scheduling a service appointment to minimize any inconvenience. (refer to sc165a. ) manufacturer's notes sc165a.

Tl-the contact owns a 2011 kia Optima. The contact stated that while driving in the neighborhood the vehicle would not accelerate. The contact took the vehicle to the dealer glassman kia 28000 telegraph rd, southfield, mi 48034 (888) 451-0949 and they said the vehicle was stuck in limp mode. The dealer said that they reprogrammed engine with a code for a recall repair. The issue recurred again while the contact was driving at 40 mph the vehicle sputtered. The contact tried to pull off the road and the vehicle spun around and crashed into the curve and into a telephone pole. There were no injuries and no police report was filed . The contact left the crash scene and the vehicle was towed to a salvage yard. The manufacturer was called and gave the contact a claim number but said there was nothing they could do. The dealer was not contacted. The failure mileage was 118,000. Tf.

I noticed the problem while driving roughly 65 mph. My vehicle pretty much went into limp mode. I was only able to travel at a certain top speed. Over heating then became a very drastic issue. I looked on the nhsta website for any known recalls there were some for my year and model but mine wasn't listed? I called a family mechanic and described in more greater detail about my issue from start to finish, he advised me not to drive the vehicle that it was displaying the exact qualities as the listed recall and I should call Kia Motor company to have the look into my class of vehicles further. Long story short I was basically left homeless in a city and state pretty much beat on the whole idea of every getting my car back at the time of the incident it dropped below 28 degrees outside. I was approximately 200 miles from home. Because of this corporations negligence. I lost more than a good night sleep I had to start back over again and I'm unfortunately an only child with no parents so it was very mind boggling. . I made repeated attempts to come to some sort of agreement with kia to no avail. Some one went so far as to steal a safe out of my vehicle. Which I had professionally installed and vandalized the inside of my car beyond repair. Driving today on interstate 20 in south carolina at 70 mph and car just suddenly cut off. Had to wait 31/2 hours for tow through kia roadside assistance in 95 degree weather. Car will not start, had battery checked but car won't do anything, all dash lights, headlights, radio all will come on but the engine won't turn over to crank.

While driving back from lake havasu to seal beach(over 308 miles away); 100 miles in towards destination, my car suddenly was stalled; loosing complete power of even pressing the signal light or emergency light. I still had 206 miles left to destination. Stuck in the middle of nowhere, no air, no power to lower the windows and heat quickly rising to 100 degrees and trying to get back phone reception to call in for towing service. I was then able to get through to aaa. I was informed that I was over 60 miles from needles and 78 miles away from barstow and aaa could not find a tow truck that could be there less than 2 hours from the time I called, (total wait was 2 1/2 hrs) after going through 2 tow trucks and getting to Kia Motors in cerritos; I was told the following day that the motor needed to be replaced. I asked whether they had a recall on this issue and service tech did not want to admit they had one. I stated to him that I was informed by a mechanic and confirming through your web site that they did have a recall since January of this year. Service rep then confessed they did. Kia is waiting 2-4 weeks for motor to arrive. I currently have been provided a rental, which kia now has taken responsibility in paying for it. I will inform everyone on how this claim goes, once the repairs are completed.

I've seen in other forums about engine recalls. I was never notified and the engine in my car disintegrated. It was replaced with an engine from a wrecking yard. This should be covered by manufacturer. I had issues with the brake lines rusting out. This should not have happened either. Not being able to service the transmission and arguing with the dealership about this should be replaced by manufacturer!.

Tl the contact owns a 2013 kia Optima. While driving 50 mph, the vehicle stalled in traffic. The contact pulled over to the shoulder and could not restart the engine. The vehicle was pushed to the contact's home. The vehicle was later restarted and driven to quatro motors (24820 Plymouth road, redford mi, 48239, 313-794-9494) from where it was purchased. The vehicle was then towed to glass man kia (28000 telegraph rd, southfield, mi 48034, (855) 237-2819) where it was diagnosed that the engine failed. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was 64,000.

I took my vehicle to have the 1803 software update done less than 2 weeks ago. I was driving back from vacation going approx. 80 mph the car cut off and several dashboard lights came on. I was in the far left lane, my car was decelerating, I needed to move across two lanes of traffic to get to the side of the road! it is an absolute miracle I was not hit or something catastrophic happened. I have called the dealership where I had the software update done. He was very transparent and explained the 1803 software update to me. Ideally the concept is to set the computer so the engine will shut down to avoid piston or other parts to go through the engine. The software update raises the sensitivity level to detect an issue with the engine, not necessarily to correct or stop it from happening but was told the update is done so it will not cause a catastrophic situation to the engine! seriously?!! it did cause a catastrophic situation, I was lucky to not have been killed! my car sits 2 hours away, 2 1/2 days later and no answers. I called twice, I have been told I should have some answers today around 2 pm. I asked how I will get my car, I was told kia does have a "reunite" program but seeing as it is w/in the same state it may not be approved to get my car delivered! kia is joking, right? my car (obviously) is having major issues and researching issues and reports online appear to point to the engine. Is there a class action law suit going on right now? I am going to look into this and pretty sure I won't be purchasing another kia ever and will be telling numerous people and social media outlets about this horrific story that could have ended tragically for me. P. S. When I contacted kia for a tow I was told it would be 90 minutes, I sat in 98 degree heat on side of road for an hour and a half! thanks kia! improve your cars and all facets of customer service.

The coolant sensor in my car is reading that my coolant is -38 degrees. My transmission also shifts extremely hard to where you are jerked either forward or backwards. This happens when shifting to and from park and while driving.

On December 9, 2018, I attended my son's soccer tournament on a cold Sunday afternoon (approx. 30 degrees). During half-time I decided to sit in my 2012 kia Optima to warm up. After 10 minutes or so, I smelled something burning like the smell of a burning engine. I then noticed greyish blackish smoke coming out from the hood of the vehicle which quickly turned into flames. I immediately shut my car off and barely exited the vehicle in time. The entire bottom of the driver's door, driver's front wheel and hood was on fire. Within a matter of minutes, my entire vehicle was engulfed in flames. It should be noted that I got a brand new engine (so they say) installed by kia just 8 months ago due to the recall. The car had been making a horrible noise so I took it to kia and they informed me that my engine was bad and part of a recall. They ordered the engine and had it installed in a matter of days. Once again this was just 8 months ago!! I am currently working with my insurance company and the local fire department to determine the cause of the blaze however, due to the severity of the damages, we may never know what the true cause of the fire was is what was told to me. Kia needs to give me and the hundreds of others who have experience this type of trauma some answers as to why this is happening and how they plan to rectify this situation! this should not have happened. I should have been able to sit in my car in 30 degree temperatures for hours if I wanted without it going into flames. I am pleading with the federal government to investigate immediately. I was driving down the road when my car stalled out without warning and would not start again had to have my car towed to shop where they said my engine has enternal engine problems. My car never showed any signs of needing an oil change I recently changed it. I strongly believe this falls under the recall . This was a very scary situation as it was me and my infant daughter in the car we almost got hit from behind and had to wait on the side of the road for 1 hour for a tow truck in 100 degree weather not a proud kia owner.

Wife and baby use this vehicle. When making a right turn from a stop, vehicle begins to slow and almost stall. Have had to pull into bike lanes quickly in order not to be hit from behind. There are 2 occasions when this occurs. 1) when at a stop on a city street, waiting to make a right. Foot off pedal, accelerate, engine begins to stall. 2) when rolling into a right turn (on city streets) acceleration causes start of stall process. We have not fully stalled as of yet. But this could be a bad scenario if it does. We have thought about gas vapor issues with the phoenix, az heat being 119 degrees, but if that were the case, it would happen other times and not just during turns. Thanks.

While driving with my family of 4 on the freeway in a desolate area of santa clarita on 9/24/16 at 3:15pm my vehicle shut off without any warning. We were going 65 mph, all lights on the dash flashed and the car shut off. We were in the 2nd lane and had to use the momentum of speed to make it to the shoulder, we were almost hit. Once we made it to the shoulder of this busy freeway, we were unable to start the car, put windows up or down, open the trunk etc. The car was completely dead. We sat waiting for aaa and hoping not to get hit. It was 85 degrees out and my 74 year old mother and disabled sister sat in the car for 30 mins until the tow truck arrived. If we weren't so lucky or if we were in the righter lanes of traffic 4 lives could have been lost that day. I am very anxious and nervous to drive the vehicle again however; I have no choice it is our families primary vehicle. The service rep at the dealership told be prematurely that it is the motor however; the diagnosis is not finalized. I fear for the safely of my family and friends in the car now, and really do not want to drive it again. It gives me major anxiety especially since I drive from CA to az 4 times a year and now fear this happening in the middle of the desert. I don't understand how a car 19 month old with 48k miles can have this type of issue. Actually I don't know how any car any age and miles can have the issue of just shutting off without warning, it is a major safety concern.

2008 kia Optima. I had been driving around town for about 20 minutes. It was 93 degrees outside air was running. Came to a stop at red light and the engine shut off the radio still worked the check engine light. And the other lights that come on when you start the car. There was no warning to this the before it happened. I put my car back in park and turned the ignition off and then tried to start it up. It started and didn't have any problems for the rest of the day. Happened before noon drove until 430 off and on and it was fine. Has 78000 miles on it. When I turned it back on the check engine light did not come back on so when I went to auto zone to check it no alerts cam up but they said it was strange and the light should have stayed on. Have read many similar problems.

The vehicle had three expensive problems in rapid succession. The first was the transmission which started a severely hard downshift on braking from about 25 mph. The whole car shuddered and felt as if we slammed on the brakes for a second. After troubleshooting, kia told us we needed a new transmission for $2700 with no help from kia. After this repair, not even two weeks later, the air bag light came on. Diagnosis from kia, defective sensor in the passenger seat, not covered by warranty and a $1500 replacement estimate. We decided not to fix this item because we were going to trade the car in on another make and cut our losses. The third problem which occurred one week later was a failure to start after parking the car for an hour at a doctor's office, stranding my wife in 95 degree heat. The car was towed to a non-kia repair shop as I no longer want anything to do with kia who will deny any claim against their so-called quality products and will be disposing of the car as soon as it is running again since kia does not stand behind its defective products. After three major failures in a short period of time we feel this is an unsafe vehicle.

After returning from work and parking my vehicle at home, the car sat in my driveway in 40 degree weather for approximately 12 hrs. I woke up the next morning and found my car on fire and is a total loss. The police and fire department were called and dispatched to my home. The fire department extinguished the fire and determined it was probably an electrical fire. There is no remote starter installed or any other accessories installed in the vehicle after purchase. The fire started in the engine compartment and started spontaneously, perhaps due to a manufacturer defect in the electrical system. I was about an hour away from leaving with this car to return to my office and I am concerned it could of started while I was in it, perhaps causing injuries or death. I am also concerned that if this could happen to me, that there are other vehicles with the same faulty electrical system and it could happen to someone else. I believe kia has a hidden manufacturing defect as was described in my incident, and its very possible it exists on other kia vehicles. Please take my concerns seriously and I think kia needs to look into this matter ASAP. Although the car is damaged beyond repair, I welcome and encourage kia to take the vehicle back to assure it doesn't happen again to anyone else. Updated 03/12/13.

The car will run fine, then engine will start to misfire. Then lose power (put the gas petal to the floor and car does not move and the engine does not rev up due to the increased gas flow. ) the engine will shutter and turn off. Le it sit for 5 to 10 minutes and the car will start. The car will drive for another 5-10 minutes and shut off and will not run for start for several minutes and will not drive beyond couple hundred feet. We have replaced the cam sensor, crank sensor, egr valve, spark wires, sparks, coil packs, water pump, all belts, alternator, battery, and short block rebuild (warranty work). The code was the first time was misfire in 1 and 4 cyders, after the rebuild the code is misfire 2 and 3 cyders. We have the computer reprogrammed twice. The dealership have no clue.

Ry time it rains and our county dirt road gets wet and muddy. Mud splashes up into the engine compartment and into the egr valve and causes it to malfuction due to the way it was desined. I took the car to the dealers shop and was told it was a maintence problem and that the dealer would fix it only once and after that I will have to pay for any repair if it fails again. As of this date ( 03/24/05) this car had 23760 miles of a 100,000 mile warranty on it.
