1 Engine Oil Leaking problem of the 2017 Kia Motor Sorento

Failure Date: 07/11/2022

My car started running badly with a knocking noise at the start. The knocking noise got worse, I so pulled over and checked the oil and there was virtually no oil in the engine. I filled it with oil and the knocking continued and got worse as I drove it to the dealer for service. The engine failed before I could make it to the dealer. It now needs a new engine. The car was serviced regularly. No low oil engine light came on to notify me of low oil. No leak was detected.

2 Engine Oil Leaking problem of the 2016 Kia Motor Sorento

Failure Date: 03/11/2022

I've had my engine replaced a month after having my car when I first got it about two years ago. I recieved the letter for the current engine recall about feburary of this year. My husband and I was o the highway when the end of March 2022 when my engine started knocking and the oil light came on. I had the car taken to a kia dealship the next day (which was a Saturday) and the got back in touch with me that following Monday stating it was my engine but I would have to pay out of pocket. I have to pay for because it was at this time I learned I no longer had a warranty on my car. Prior to my husband and I taking this trip I just had my car at the dealership for an oil change. After they changed my oil the tech stated to me that my car was leaking oil and that I had to setup an appt to have it fixed. He didnt offer me the chance to get it fixed right then. About five mins after I left I called the dealership and asked them if I my warranty would cover the cost and that tech stated that he would have to contact them first and get back in touch with me. A week later is when I left to go out of town due to a death in the family. I've also asked them for a loaner car but they didnt have any to lend me and said that my warranty would remiburse me for a rental. Im upset because im still paying on a car that I cant drive and ive gotten this car from a well known dealership whom I thought was genuine to their customers.

3 Engine Oil Leaking problem of the 2017 Kia Motor Sorento

Failure Date: 12/22/2021

This is a early 2017 bought in August 2016 on December 22 2021, my daughter and two young grandsons were traveling west bound on i68 just past cumberland MD. Her car lost power and she called me immediately and I heard the engine rattling. I told her immediately to pull over and turn the engine off, I ask her if she had a low oil pressure or low oil light she didn't until all the oil leaked out. She had the vehicle towed to a kia dealer in cumberland, MD where he took a picture of a pop can size hole in the block. So you have the same problems in some 2017s. She has 115000. Miles on the vehicle. If you are wondering why she called me, she was on the way to my home and I worked at tmmwv test cells and listened to many engines.

4 Engine Oil Leaking problem of the 2013 Kia Motor Sorento

Failure Date: 04/08/2021

There is some kind of fluid leak, possibly oil, in the engine compartment. I did have vehicle checked in 2020 for a recall but they did nothing about the leak. Now the leak is causing engine to smoke after being driven. I know there is an engine recall on my vehicle but my local dealership chose not to address it on my last visit. I now have left a message to get vehicle checked again and no one has called back. I called kia customer service and spoke with ryan in California and he said there are no recalls on my vehicle. Should my vehicle be checked under sc200? my vehicle has all the symptoms that fall under that recall. I am greatly concerned about engine fire/failure.

5 Engine Oil Leaking problem of the 2015 Kia Motor Sorento

Failure Date: 03/18/2021

After my 2015 kia Sorento sx was recalled for faulty engine; it was rebuilt. However, my car has recently stalled while driving and I had to get it towed to the dealership. I was told there was another engine oil leak. They claimed to rebuild the engine, but I am having the same exact issue. I have had nothing but issues since purchasing this car. This is a very dangerous problem, and could have resulted in a fire causing serious bodily harm or worse. I am asking for another recall, because apparently the first time they allegedly fixed the faulty engine was to no avail as I am having the exact same issue as I had prior to the engine being rebuilt. The problem has not been remedied. I also read several news articles where there was recent recall on the kia Sorento models as well as several others. However, upon searching to check if there was in fact another recall, there is not. This is confusing and I would like to know what is going on as several news articles state indeed 2015 kia Sorento has another recall.

6 Engine Oil Leaking problem of the 2015 Kia Motor Sorento

Failure Date: 03/11/2021

Vehicle lost power while driving. There were no warning lights, no check engine lights. Daughter in-law was driving vehicle. She made it home with vehicle. My son looked at vehicle when he got home from work. He found oil to be low, oil was changed in January. No signs of oil leaking. He removed oil filter and found metal shavings in oil. My son is a small engine/diesel mechanic. He hooked up his code reader, error readings were related to cylinder bank. They had vehicle towed to closet kia dealer, about 70 miles, verdict from dealership needs new engine at tune of $10,000. My son cannot afford a $10,000 repair bill, he had the vehicle towed home. The vehicle has about 125,000 miles on it. My concerns with this are why no warning or check engine lights? my second concern is that the kia recall and class action lawsuit and subsequent settlement maybe should have included the v6 engines. Kia is known for engine problems. And maybe I can't even be the one to enter this report since I am not vehicle owner but I am not willing to rollover and give up. My son just wants to be rid of vehicle and try get out from under the $8,000 he still owes on loan. I think this is a continuation of the engine problems kia has.

7 Engine Oil Leaking problem of the 2015 Kia Motor Sorento

Failure Date: 03/11/2021

I noticed my 2015 kia sorrento was idling very hard. This stopped momentarily and then began again and the engine light began flashing. The vehicle struggles to accelerate and I turned the vehicle off. Upon inspecting there was no oil leak but little to no oil in the engine and no indication of a problem. The vehicle was routinely oil changed and maintained.

8 Engine Oil Leaking problem of the 2016 Kia Motor Sorento

Failure Date: 03/01/2021

Started going up a mountain highway and my car started jumping and immediately decreased speed. It would not go and kept skipping, like a stop and go type of deal. My check engine light starting flashing and I had to pull over. After I got my car towed it was found that the car had zero oil in it. Like bone dry but with zero leaks anywhere. The mechanic checked everything twice to make sure everything else was intact and it was. My oil light never came on and it never smoked or overheated. I had zero indication that the car didn't have oil. I was 900+ miles from my next oil change. It was like the oil evaporated into thin air. We are completely baffled as to what happened and why the car didn't have any oil in it. Because of no oil, a piston broke and the engine threw a rod and it is ruined. My car needs a whole new engine now. The mechanic stated that the only thing wrong with the car was no oil and that it was like it just disappeared because there was no oil residue anywhere.

9 Engine Oil Leaking problem of the 2013 Kia Motor Sorento

Failure Date: 02/04/2021

The engine has an oil leak and now a cracked 4th cylinder causing a $638 bill at the mechanic to keep the car running at bare minimum. The engine was a recall replacement and I believe it should be part of the 12/2/2020 recall. This is causing hardship for my family.

10 Engine Oil Leaking problem of the 2012 Kia Motor Sorento

Failure Date: 01/01/2021

Car never has had engine issues and gets regular, routine maintenance. I had my oil changed three weeks ago as I do every few thousand miles. I was driving the other day and the engine started to sieze. The oil pressure light came on while driving. There was no oil in the car. Car was towed to mechanic and no cracks/leaks were found. There is a safety recall currently for the engine bearings being prematurely worn causing engine to malfunction and sieze. My VIN was not listed under this recall, however, the mechanic suggested it is an internal/engine problem, thus quite likely due to these worn bearings in the engine.

11 Engine Oil Leaking problem of the 2016 Kia Motor Sorento

Failure Date: 12/16/2020

Recently, I started to experience issues with my vehicle that included engine stalling on the highway during heavy traffic conditions and on local streets while driving with my daughter in the vehicle. Additionally, the check engine light was displayed on the dashboard. When this occurred, I immediately called the alm kia dealership to request a diagnosis of the check engine light. I arranged to take my vehicle to the atlanta west kia dealership where a diagnostic check was performed stating that, 4 part induction service, 4 part fuel injector replacement, and a 4 cylinder tune up was needed. When I recieved the estimate from atlanta west kia, I called the service department at alm kia in union city because I was perplexed that the above services were never communicated to me by my service advisor at kia union city when I took my vehicle in for an oil change on 11/11/20. (note: technicians also performed a multi-point inspection as well). My service advisor aaron austin acknowledged that he neglected to tell me that I needed the same services that atlanta west kia wanted to perform. However, he stated that if I brought my vehicle back, he would perform the same services for $569. 99. After obtaining both service estimates at the kia dealerships, I still felt very uncomfortable with the quotes from kia and decided to take my kia Sorento to an independent vehicle repair shop, tri-star automotive, in order to diagnose the problem with the check engine light. After a thorough diagnosis and analysis of my vehicle engine, tri-star automotive mechanics concluded that my engine problems were more extensive than noted at the kia dealerships. Tri-star automotive provided a detailed analysis of their findings and written estimate to repair my vehicle along with a photo of oil leaking from the #4 cylinder valve of my kia Sorento along with stating that my engine needed to replaced.

16 Engine Oil Leaking problem of the 2013 Kia Motor Sorento

Failure Date: 07/30/2020

All the oil leaked out and the engine froze. I was stuck on a major highway. There was a recall for this. I went to the dealer and they offered free oil change this was when recall notice came out but they never fixed the problem.

17 Engine Oil Leaking problem of the 2012 Kia Motor Sorento

Failure Date: 07/11/2020

My engine started knocking when I got off the highway and stopped to make a left turn. I got to work and waited a few hours then checked the oil. I found the oil was low and added more, I turned the vehicle on and still heard the knocking. I have been having a lot of issues with keeping oil in my vehicle, there are no leaks, drips or anything on the ground. I have noticed water like liquid dripping from around the exhaust just rear of the oil pan and frame and my rpms drop when from about 800 to less the 500 when stationary. I keep up with all the oil changes with the kia dealership in my town, did what recalls were requested by kia. My vehicle has approximately 143,800 miles. I checked for any recalls and found my VIN number was unrelated to any.

18 Engine Oil Leaking problem of the 2011 Kia Motor Sorento

Failure Date: 05/27/2020

Engine started knocking several days before catastrophic engine failure. The car was taken to kia. Staff started engine and said it needs a new engine without looking at it further. Took elsewhere for a second opinion. Knock subsided some after adding additional engine oil (no history of leaks or oil use). Engine then threw a rod through the oil pan as the vehcle was traveling approx 40 miles per hour on a 4 lane street. . Fortunatley, my 17 year old son was able to react to the total engine/power loss and was able to safely get the vehicle pulled off the side of the road into a turn lane. Kia acknowledges they have been having many identical issues with various engines, but this specific engine wasn't included under the recall. Seems very strange that this engine is experiencing the same issues as other kia engines, but this specific engine isn't covered. . . Kia is agreeing to cover approximately 1/2 of the estimated $6,000 repair bill. Engine had approx 120,000 miles on it.

19 Engine Oil Leaking problem of the 2016 Kia Motor Sorento

Failure Date: 05/07/2020

I brought my 2016 kia Sorento in the dealer for check engine light (code p0172). After the evaluated it, they said the fuel pump and fuel lines need to be replaced because it's leaking fuel into the engine and the engine needs an oil change because the oil is diluted with fuel. They said the fuel pump and fuel line is covered under the warranty but the oil change isn't. This fuel system issue is every similar to the recalls that were reported on January 17, 2019 but my car didn't fall under the recall. Could this be part of the recall?.

20 Engine Oil Leaking problem of the 2017 Kia Motor Sorento

Failure Date: 05/05/2020

This car is unsafe because the oil just disappears without any obvious external leak and does not utilize the oil light to indicate the vehicle needs oil as it does with the gas light and flat tire alerts . This can cause the engine to catch fire or car to reduce speed or stall while driving . The engine just consumes or looses oil and you have to check it daily - can you imagine the headache and financial burden to put oil in a car every other day . Kia needs to fix this issue , it's more common than you think across the us .

23 Engine Oil Leaking problem of the 2014 Kia Motor Sorento

Failure Date: 01/26/2020

Today I was driving to my parents house on a long straight away highway (55mph speed limit). I began passing another vehicle and as soon as I got around him my check engine light, oil light, and battery light came on. I promptly pulled over on the side of the road and shut the car off. I checked oil level, which was fine. No obvious over heating, smoke, or leaks. I decided to turn the car back on to see if the lights were still there but the car wouldn't start. It was completely dead aside from one tiny crank noise then nothing. Luckily someone stopped and we got the car started by jumping it. Went to the local parts store and my battery, starter, and alternator all checked out ok. No further lights or issues the rest of the day. Not sure what happened but I'm scared to drive it long distance now. Never had an issue with this car before this.

24 Engine Oil Leaking problem of the 2013 Kia Motor Sorento

Failure Date: 12/25/2019

The engine seized while I was driving on the interstate. The engine did have a minor oil leak since the time of purchase from the dealership, it was monitored and replinished reqularly and had been done the same day the engine seized.

25 Engine Oil Leaking problem of the 2013 Kia Motor Sorento

Failure Date: 12/19/2019

I have taken my 2013 kia Sorento to my local dealership after the latest engine recall. They upgraded software but gave no further explanation. Everytime I get my oil change its almost empty. The past 2 oil changes there has been almost no oil. Yesterday, I was driving, on the highway and check engine, oil, battery, light came on flashing and the car stalled in the middle lane of the highway. I was able to pull over and call a tow truck. I turned the vehicle off and 15 min later while waiting for tow truck I tried to turn it on and it came one. I canceled the tow and I am at the dealership today . My car is not leaking oil anywhere and I know there has been a engine recall on my make, model and year. I am afraid of the cost of the repair and the safety of a vehicle that stops in the middle of the highway.

26 Engine Oil Leaking problem of the 2016 Kia Motor Sorento

Failure Date: 12/17/2019

My vehicle began excessively using oil, no leak in spring of 2019. Took it service once I documented my oil changes in September. No answers, wanting to do an every 1,000 miles documentation at the dealership. By December, it is giving an engine code p0014, meaning the exhaust camshaft has advanced to much to go to a lower timing. Eventually the passage become clogged and causing oil flow to the phasivers to be restricted - leading to a locked engine. The only fix, a new engine. Although I am still under power train - they request I drive the vehicle 1000 miles for testing before approving however the engine code tells us further drive will lock the engine. Exactly what older models were previously recalled for. With this kia gives you no proper solution and no guarantee to cover.

27 Engine Oil Leaking problem of the 2013 Kia Motor Sorento

Failure Date: 11/06/2019

I was driving my 2013 kia Sorento yesterday on the highway going about 50-55 mph when all of a sudden it stalled and the engine stopped. I pulled over immediately and noticed it was extremely hot and out of oil. I still had 1,000 miles to go according to the oil change sticker from the mechanic. No oil warning light ever came on to indicate low fuel. There are also no signs of oil leaking in or around the vehicle. It was actually driving great the day before when I drove 50+ miles on mostly highway. I had my 2013 kia Sorento towed to a local mechanic and just informed me the engine will need to be replaced. I did some research because I'm confused to what happened here and found that I'm not alone. Many other kia & Hyundai owners have experienced this same issue. "the national highway traffic safety administration (NHTSA) reportedly states that more than 6 million Hyundai and kia vehicles have been affected by the engine defect since 2015". What are my options? I am currently looking at an estimate of $6220. 00 to install a new engine. I need help. What are my options?.

28 Engine Oil Leaking problem of the 2017 Kia Motor Sorento

Failure Date: 10/11/2019

8/19/19 I had a scheduled oil / filter change at dealership, mileage 50280. 10/11/19 I checked my oil and there was no oil on the oil dipstick. There were no leaks, no oil on garage floor, no oil warning light. I brought it to the dealership same day, 10/11/19, I thought maybe the tech did not put correct amount of oil, I only had an addtl. 2700 miles and was not scheduled for an oil change yet. One of the techs put about 1 1/2 - 2 quarts of oil in it and told me to keep an eye on it. Saturday, 12/07/19, it happened again,no oil was showing on the dipstick. I was going to have dealership do the oil change, I was close to the mileage to get one, but not quite, but instead of dealership doing oil change, he said to bring it back Monday 12/09/19 to have a 'tech line' opened. I am the original owner of this 2017 kia Sorento and it is still under warranty.

29 Engine Oil Leaking problem of the 2016 Kia Motor Sorento

Failure Date: 10/10/2019

The motor oil disappears it's like it just evaporates into thin air. It will be bone dry and I have no leaks. I have to check it about every 2 weeks and refill it. This has been an ongoing problem since I bought the car.

30 Engine Oil Leaking problem of the 2014 Kia Motor Sorento

Failure Date: 09/28/2019

On Saturday 9/28 - I happen to notice some leaking near the front of my Sorento near the right wheel . . . I opened the hood and notice a leak all over that side of the car. . . Took the car to mechanic on 9/29 and the mechanic stated oil is mixing into antifreeze . . . Went to 2 mechanics and both directed me to go to dealer as this repair should be covered under warranty since it is a serious and possibly costly defect. . .

31 Engine Oil Leaking problem of the 2016 Kia Motor Sorento

Failure Date: 09/10/2019

During a routine oil change, my 2016 kia Sorento had no oil on the dipstick. I've used synthetic oil with every change since buying the Sorento new. With the engine light showing up, the error code suggests replacing the intake camshaft position sensor. Symptoms that began with the check engine light included the following: revving of rpms in park, slow acceleration when trying to cross a busy highway (it stalls), and climbing into 6k rpms when going up highway inclines (hills) at 55-60 mph. And there is still the question of "where did the oil go in the first place?" there is no external leak of engine oil.

32 Engine Oil Leaking problem of the 2013 Kia Motor Sorento

Failure Date: 08/07/2019

Rear main oil seals leaking causing engine problems.

33 Engine Oil Leaking problem of the 2011 Kia Motor Sorento

Failure Date: 06/12/2019

In November 2015 had major oil line failure, dealership replaced oil pressure switch. In December 2017 had major oil leak, dealership replaced oil pressure switch. June 2019 check engine light activated upon putting vehicle in park. Took it to kia dealership and they found pieces of bearing in the bottom of oil filter housing. Kia dealership recommended replacement of bank oil control valve and ultimately replacement of engine. Vehicle only has 86,600 miles on it. Kia dealerships not interested in buying vehicle and quote me approximately $6,000 to replace engine. I suspect this may be same issue kia had with 2012 sorrentos which led to recall.

34 Engine Oil Leaking problem of the 2012 Kia Motor Sorento

Failure Date: 04/13/2019

I see no oil leaking from my car, but I have to add 3_quartz of oil every 2,000 miles. Now I bought this car from private seller. Now I have researched this problem and think this car is in service oil check because it has an orange dipstick. However I don't know how to verify this.
