1 Starter Solenoid problem of the 2011 Kia Motor Sorento

Failure Date: 10/26/2019

Vehicle was parked in the garage and stationary. When trying to start the vehicle using the key-less ignition, dash and interior lights started to flicker in the vehicle and relays start to click. Locks would not operate nor could I shift into neutral, started to smelt burning, pushed ignition button to shut down. Would not shut off, electrical kept cycling like it was trying to start on its own, had to disconnect the battery to shut down the car. Starter solenoid never engaged at any time nor did the engine try to turn over.

2 Starter Solenoid problem of the 2006 Kia Motor Sorento

Failure Date: 08/22/2017

Parked the car one night, next morning only clicks, clicking coming from fuse box too. New battery, battery and brake light are on, car dies after sputtering. This is a new $5,000 engine with only 20,000 miles due to a crankshaft pulley break ruining the original one. Now, it won't crank, obdii returns codes p0763 and p0101 which are shift solenoid and mass air flow electrical. The cooling fan relaly is burned as well as the fuse box circuit board it goes into. Have a mechanic coming to check it but not too optimistic given the car's history. Luckily, I only drove 3 miles to my other home when the second time for quitting occurred where it is still, now I'm out of a car and lots of obligations to fulfill and walking.

4 Starter Solenoid problem of the 2011 Kia Motor Sorento

Failure Date: 06/04/2011

While coming to a stop, the vehicle down-shifted hard and the engine started to sputter like it was going to cut off. Took to dealer and they found p0748- pressure control solenoid "a" electrical fault. They performed a reprogram of tsm per TSB# tra038. Drove off lot and it shifted hard three times on way home. Dealer said it would take 100 miles for the computer to re-learn my driving for best fuel mileage. Drove to work (shifted hard 5 times) and drove to run errands. While on errands the vehicle shifted down hard and engine sputtered while slowing down in traffic. Then, when releasing the brake and pressing the accelerator, the vehicle rpm/ tach went up but the vehicle wouldn't go. After stepping back on the brake and waiting 2-3 seconds I tried to move again and it did. I took the car back to dealer directly and while stopping to turn into dealer it shifted hard, engine sputtered and it again would not move ( only engine rpm's turned up). It did finally move and I was able to pull into the parking lot. Now the manufacturer is replacing the transmission because to their admission they do not know what is wrong with the vehicle. Nearly stranded on a five lane 35 mph road could be physically dangerous but a highway could be fatal. An evasive maneuver with this vehicle, requiring stopping and starting quickly is not an option if you can't drive during normal conditions stopping and starting.

5 Starter Solenoid problem of the 2009 Kia Motor Sorento

Failure Date: 06/01/2011

Upon starting the 2009 kia sorrento one day, I shifted to reverse and noticed a violent jerk with a loud popping sound. Upon putting it into drive, the car would barely accelerate but the engine would still rev when pressing down on the gas pedal. The check engine light was on but later went away. The dealership has seen the car multiple times and our service advisor gary dawson in houston, TX says they cannot reproduce the problem or find any fault codes (even though we provided the code pulled from autozone the previous day). Codes said the transaxle and high/low solenoid were the problems. The car is in their possession now but after a quick talk with our service advisor I highly doubt they will be fixing anything. A quick google search shows almost all 2005+ sorrentos have transmission problems. Please do something about kia and keep them in check.
