I was driving my car when I started hearing a ticking noise, the car started shaking, and acted like it did not want to accelerate. The check engine light came on and was flashing. I had it hauled it to a kia dealership where they told me that I would have to have the motor replaced due to rod damage.
I was approximately driving 65 mph when suddenly the motor developed a ticking noise. Then suddenly turned into a knocking/clattering noise. My oil light illuminated as well as my engine light. I then proceeded down the high way to the next exit to pull off and check my oil. Before I made it to my exit. The motor had loss of power. When I'd try to accelerate, it would bog down. Right as I was about to take a turn onto my exit the motor stopped and died so I coasted as far as a could and had to push it out of the road. When I examined my oil it was metallic. My vehicle only has 80,000 miles on it. With about 1500 miles on my oil change. (5-20w full synthetic).
The engine blew, leaking oil. Apparently a lifter was making a tapping noise, we were told the engine was unrepairable.
Bought 2014 kia Soul on 6/16/20 at 106k miles from Hyundai dealer. Did not drive from 8/8/20 to 8/16/20-car was in a secure location. Driving on highway, made a turn, heard a clunking noise and car stalled and quit w/no restart. Did not see engine light before previously. Towed home, and then to cumberland kia on 9/5/20. Promised a loaner car, but never got one. They said the engine was blown and it would cost $8000 to fix it. Only paid $7500 for the car. Kia would not negotiate. Hyundai tried to work with them as well. Called kia consumer affairs. They asked cumberland kia if they would consider any "good will"-they declined. The whole description of what happened fits the NHTSA recall #19v120-part 573 safety recall report-but the VIN# is not showing a recall. Purchased the car because of clean carfax (see attached). Past services on 3rd owner(puchased at 58k in 2016) were all done at cumberland kia. Hyundai said there were 24 service receipts in the car from cumberland kia. Hyundai had done their service and certification before they sold it to us. The car was clean and in excellent condition, well taken care of. There was no reason for the engine to suddenly blow like that. We need help!.
We were on a 2 lane highway going home. We started up a hill and the car lost power but was fine again after the hill, went up another hill and the car lost power again but this time it started making a clanging noise in the motor. We immediately pulled over. No warning lights at all. My husband who was in another vehicle ahead of us checked everything and found the oil was a little low but it wasn't time for an oil change it had only been a little over 3000 miles and it is always changed before or at 5000 miles. He added oil but the noise was still there. We had the vehicle towed to our mechanic. The mechanic did an inspection and he heard the noise coming from cylinder #3 and he did a compression test and it lost compression. His diagnosis is that the rod in cylinder #3 has broke and we need a new motor. After getting a hold of kia they want us to take it to a kia dealer and pay to have it diagnosed but it will cost us almost $300 and we already paid one certified mechanic, for that which we don't have. The car was bought in September of 2019 with a little over 90,000 miles and just had a little over 100,000 on it. This happened in August of 2020 and the vehicle is just sitting as we make payments on something we can't even drive. We still owe $7700 on the car and a motor will cost almost that amount. After reading all the recalls kia and other vehicles with the same motors have done we are at a loss on why kia isn't replacing the same motor in our vehicle. The representative on the phone even said if we took it to kia and had it diagnosed they still wouldn't guarantee that they would do anything to help. We have taken good care of this vehicle since we bought it and always had the oil changed. We don't know what to do and do not have the money to replace the motor. Please help.
While driving a 2014 kia Soul on the freeway, the engine started to make a sudden and loud popping sound. When exiting the freeway, the vehicle locked up and stalled. It would not start back up. I purchased the vehicle from kia with 27k miles on it. It only has 76k miles on it now. I had it towed to the local kia dealer who diagnosed it as a spun bearing or engine failure. No obvious signs of damage and no leaks. No check engine lights or any other issues prior to engine failure and the oil was just changed within the last month. No stored engine codes or faults.
I have been having issues with the engine of my car. At first it had stalled out a few times, thought maybe it was my battery, so I got a new battery and still was not running right. It would have a hard time accelerating and all the lights on the dashboard came on, had someone look at that knows cars and has worked on them before and that the noise it was making, the clicking noise, was the starter. Well I got a new starter for it and still nothing. It would have a hard time acclerating, would make this clicking, ticking noise when you barely touch the gas pedal. Check engine light would stay on and the oil light would blink. Recently just had the oil change at a shop and they think it is the motor. Well had another person check it out and now they definitely think it is my exhaust camshaft. So now my car has been sitting in the driveway til I can get it fixed.
Tl- the contact owns a 2014 kia Soul. The contact stated that while driving at 65 mph, the vehicle began to make a clicking noise as the check engine warning light illuminated. As the contact attempted to pull over, the vehicle also began to stall. The contact was able to restart the vehicle and drive to a parking lot as smoke began to emit from the engine. The contact then had the vehicle towed to an independent mechanic where the mechanic informed her that steering rod had broken off and went through engine. The vehicle was then diagnosed with engine failure. The contact went to north county kia 1501 auto park way s, escondido, CA 92029 where they were unable to offer any assistance. The manufacturer had not been notified of the failure. The vehicle had yet ot be repaired. The failure mileage was 130,000. Jo.
I bought a new battery and the next day my check engine light cut off and my car turned off a week later at stop light. Also, a clicking noise when I try to turn.
Tl the contact owns a 2014 kia Soul. The contact stated that while driving at approximately 65 mph, there was an abnormal clicking noise and dark gray smoke coming from under the hood. The contact mentioned that once the vehicle was pulled over and the hood was open the smoke extinguished independently. The vehicle was towed to an independent mechanic where they informed the contact that the vehicle was burning oil and the engine seized. The vehicle was then towed to courtesy kia of brandon (9205 e adamo dr, tampa, FL 33619) where they confirmed that the engine seized and it was not due to the catalytic converter. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure and confirmed that the failure was not because of the catalytic converter. The contact stated that the failure could be related to NHTSA campaign number: 19v120 (engine, engine and engine cooling). The approximate failure mileage was 103,052.
My daughter was driving her 2014 kia Soul and suddenly it decelerated without warning. It also started making a clanking noise so she parked it immediately. No engine or warning lights, just running badly. We had it towed to a repair shop and was informed that the noise was piston rattling around and that the motor was pretty much shot. This made no sense as we have always kept up with oil changes and it only has around 87,000 miles on it. We sought a solution with kia and was told because she was a second owner that the warranty was no good after 60,000 miles. Of course there is no recall for her 2. 0 l motor. I am shocked that so many people have had similar complaints and yet kia gets away with no responsibility. We are looking at $ 8,000 for another motor or buying a new car. Neither is a viable option, this car was supposed to last longer than this. Something isn't right.
I went to accelerate after a stop and the car started to go when all of the sudden there was a total loss of power and the entire car shut down. There was no indication that anything was wrong. There were no indication warning lights to indicate a problem. Only when the car stalled did they all flash. I pulled to the shoulder and restarted the car. It made a horrible clattering noise and had very little power. I utilized the manual shifting feature and that helped reduce the noise, but it would get louder as the engine rpms increased. The dealership said there was no oil in the motor, yet it was checked prior to driving and there was oil on the dip stick. The car has about 107,000 miles and needs a total engine replacement. Only after the incident occurred did we see this is a known problem with this make and model of car.
Thursday I had a check engine light come on and called kia service and they said as long as engine light is not flashing I will be ok to drive it so they scheduled my appt. For the following Monday. Saturday I was driving 45mph on a busy road and my car starting making ticking noise & lost power and steering. I smelled a chemical smell similar to gasoline. I had my oil changed every 3000 miles for the life of this car. Connecting rod cap to piston rod came out of my engine. My kia is @ dealership waiting for consumer affairs process. Dist. Mgr has already declined repair. Now waiting for escalation dept to contact me. Its now been 19 days. My kia is a 2014 with the 2. 0 engine. My son has a photo of the cap sticking out of the engine. (I will try to upload once I get it. ) why does the recall for the engine not pertain to all engines when the same problems are happening? and why has kia not sent everyone letters notifying of the recall especially when a crash or engine fire is possible? is this safe and acceptable when human life is at risk? or do we wait for the first person to die?.
Loud clacking noise and lost of power ## VIN passed ## kia Soul 2014 ##.
Kia Soul all of sudden had engine light on and acceleration started to decrease for 5 minutes. Car then went back to normal but engine had klanking sound. After slowing down off highway, clacking sound was louder and engine started to sputter and stall out. When car turned on it engine had loud clangs. Once towed to dealer, dealer said metal shavings was found in oil filter and required a new engine be installed for 12k. This happened at 115,000 miles just outside the powertrain warrenty.
I had the original 2. 0l engine throw a rod even though I stayed up with its routine maintenance schedule. So I replaced it with a used motor that had 30000 less mi on it than the 65000 the original motor had on it. On the second motor the 1st piston disintigrated and fell into the oil pan. This was proceded by a ticking sound and eventually turned into a loud knocking sound and a intermediate loss in power, like a partially clogged catalytic converter. I highly recommend an investigation into the 2. 0l engine as it is doing the exact same thing as the 1. 6l engine was doing.
I own a 2014 kia Soul + model. Today while I was driving around 35 mph down a local city street, I started to lose power in traffic. I thought I had some bad gas or something. About a minute or two later, the oil light illuminated. I got a little nervous while driving, so I threw on my hazard lights. I was about a 1/4 mile from the nearest service station (the closest place to evaluate the situation). I proceeded cautiously, driving around 15 mph, to the service station when I started to hear a tapping sound. I became overly concerned then. I made it to the service station, popped the hood, and checked the dip stick. The oil appeared to be at the proper level. Just to be on the safe side, I purchased a quart of oil and poured half of the quart into the car. I got back into the car and started it up. It was still tapping. I was located about a mile and a half from kia atlanta south. So I decided to try to drive to the dealership. Upon pulling out of the service station's parking lot, my car stalled then shut down. The battery light and other service lights popped on. I coasted you the side of the road and called roadside assistant. My kia Soul has approximately 75,553 miles on it. I get my oil changed regularly. I was confused as to why my car was malfunctioning like this. There no signs of smoke or anything. My car just stopped. I had to wait 2. 5 hours on a tow truck. The guy towed my car to kia atlanta south in jonesboro, georgia. The service department was closed. I have to wait until in the morning to find out what's going on. While waiting for the towed, I discovered that there were many cases similar to my current situation. It's strange that there are many others feeling my pain. Now, I'm awaiting on the dealership's verdict.
2014 kia Soul 2. 0l gdi nu. 34,000 miles. Driving home from work and noticed a slight ticking sound from engine. Sound was getting louder and engine light came on and oil light was flashing. Stopped car checked oil - was very low. Car towed to kia. Diagnosis - metal in oil. Engine condemned. Brough car home. Removed oil pain - 1 bearing was spun. Replaced bearings/oil pan/oil filter - same thing happened again due to something restricting oil flow I suspect. 5 months out of warranty second owner.
While making a right turn onto the highway, vehicle made an insanely loud screeching, metal on metal noise followed by violent shaking. The engine light started flickering, as well as the oil light, then started to stall out. While pulling over, car continued to make grinding and clunking noise coming from what sounded like the engine. Attempted to restart the car, loud clunking and grinding noise. Checked the oil dipstick- metal shards and shavings on dipstick. Took to courtesy kia brandon. Who confirmed engine required a rebuild or replacement. I was told that this was not covered by recent recall of . . . All kia Soul's with 1. 6lt engines made from July 8, 2011 thru Aug 1, 2016 are being recalled. . . " for engine problems. I am now unexpectedly immobilized with a $8k+ repair for a rebuilt engine with 67k+ miles as my option?.
My motor has 103,000 miles on it. It started making a slight ticking sound. The oil is changed regularly and it was nearly time to have it changed. I took my little boy to school and the car lost power and the noise got a lot worse. I went ahead and took it to castrol to have them check the oil. The oil was fine but we went ahead and changed it. I ended up having to have my car towed home. A mechanic looked at it and said that I needed a new motor.
We literally bought our 17 yr old daughter a 2014 kia Soul 2. 0 a month ago! in less then a month from purchasing she was driving down our major highway and the car started to make a loud ticking noise and started to shake she said the car stalled and she was able to coast to pull over the check engine light and oil light came on together ! we just had the car serviced at our local kia dealership w oil changed . She was able to get the car home . We had a certified mechanic come tow it to see what the problem was he said he had to put 3 q of oil in it just to hook up for diognostic as the oil was bone dry ! all of the readings were unstable due to blown motor ! not sure why the 1. 6 liter was recalled due to engine failure but all the complaints I have read is on the 2. 0. We was quoted 6200$ to fix it because the 2014 engines have been discontinued! hmmm why is that ?! we have a 9,000$ car sitting that I have a loan on paying monthly and our daughter is without a vehicle let me add she lost her job ! I have called the consumer reports and explained what happened they gave me a claim number and said someone will contact me within 3 business days . It is now going on 2 weeks ! I will be looking at all my options at this point and will be contacting our lawyer !.
I had my oil changed last month and noticed an odd smell around that time I didnt think much of it at the time because there was no noise or obvious leaks to weeks later my oil light started flashing sometimes and I checked the oil level. . . It was a quart low so I topped it off and went back to normal fastfoward to this month its emptied out twice I took it to a shop and they found the cat had overheated and caused an oil leak and there is now an awful ticking noise coming from the engine the dealership said this is a known issue on the model with the 1. 6 liter engine and a recall was issued but this recall doesnt cover the 2. 0 liter even though it is the exact same issue I have done some research and found several other customers who had this same issue on their 2. 0 liter models and had to buy new engines this is horrible and I as a consumer feel a full engine failure on a well maintained car that isn't even 5 years old should be covered by the same recall. Kia needs to expand this recall.
Tl the contact owns a 2014 kia Soul. The contact stated that the vehicle was using an excessive amount of oil and there was an abnormal knocking and tapping noise coming from the vehicle. The vehicle lost a quart of oil and additional oil was added. In addition, the check engine and low oil warning indicators illuminated. The vehicle was taken to hanson kia (2300 carriage loop sw, olympia, wa 98502, (360) 943-2120) and an oil consumption test was performed. The dealer diagnosed that the engine needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was not contacted. The failure mileage was 79,000.
I was driving about 30 mph north on harbor blvd and first st in California sudendly I heard a loud knocking/clicking sound coming from the lower left side of the engine & no error codes came on prior to the noise so I pulled over and called a tow truck to take my vehicle to the nearest mechanic. Until today mechanic has unknown origin of problem.
Bought a used 2014 kia Soul in 12/2015 with 34,000 and put on 17,400 miles to date. Approx. 12/27/18 heard a very slight knocking, tapping noise (had to turn the accessories off to hear it) and checked the oil level (which was fine-just had it changed). No loss of power, no smoking, and no warning lights came on. The weather was cold (winter in the northeast) so I assumed the noise was a cold engine and the noise was hardly audible as the car warmed up. It eventually got louder and louder and got faster as I accelerated (still no loss of power, etc. I stopped driving the car middle of January 2019 and parked it in my driveway. (I was afraid I would do more damage) and had it towed to a kia dealer to have them assess the noise. On 1/29/19 the dealer called me at work and told me "you need a new engine". . . . And also told me she spoke to service dept. And there is nothing they can do for me because it was out of warranty by 5 weeks (approx. ). I've submitted all of my maintenance records to date (done by manufacturer's dates/only oil changes/ did not need any mechanical repairs). I've contacted kia headquarters approx. 16 times and no one has returned any calls. Last time I spoke to them they are in the 'waiting stage' to see what decision can be made as far as ?? repair or replacement of the engine. They would like me to pay for it. (they want to make sure it's not something I did to the car). Meanwhile my vehicle is sitting on the back lot of the dealer. Keep in mind I've only put on 17,400 miles in 3 years. . . . . . . Please address if you can. Thank you! (I do have all the invoices, maintenance records, but cannot scan at this time).
I was driving down the highway and suddenly heard a clicking sound in the front. My car seemed to be put of gear and was revving up. I immediately pulled to the side and it died right there. I have 102k on this car and it is completely dead. I was told engine needs to be replaced.
Tl the contact owns a 2014 kia Soul. When the accelerator pedal was depressed, the vehicle stalled and made an abnormal noise as if pressure were being released. The contact stated that the vehicle began to drive, but shortly after, began shaking, smoking, and making clunking noises. The contact shifted into neutral and pulled the vehicle over to a safe location. The vehicle was towed to oakes kia (2900 burlington st, north kansas city, mo 64116). The manufacturer was contacted and stated that the vehicle was not included in NHTSA campaign number: 19v120000 (engine). The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The failure mileage was 73,350.
We had been driving for about 20 minutes. We pulled off highway to look at a tourist attraction. No indication whatsoever that anything was wrong with the car. Parked, turned car off. Got out. Glanced back at the car and smoke was pouring out from under the hood. Soon there were flames dripping from underneath front end (looked like melting plastic). Called fire department. Within 1 minute flames were jumping up on interior (dash area) and exterior (under hood). Got fire extinguisher from nearby business, but with hood closed, did not help. Within 4 minutes entire front end and front interior were engulfed in enormous flames. Many popping noises (explosions). Fire department arrived after about 5 minutes and extinguished the fire. Entire front end of car melted to the ground. I should note that while we left the car unlocked when we got out, the doors locked themselves during the fire, and the key fob was inoperable (lock electronics in the car were fried). Had a person or pet been in the car, they would have been trapped. My husband cut his face during this, but did not seek a doctor. All personal items in the car are severely damaged by smoke.
