I received a recall for the engine issue with the 2014 kia Soul. A proposed settlement of a class action lawsuit known as in Hyundai and kia engine litigation, no. 8:17‑cv‑00838‑jls‑jde and flaherty v. Hyundai motor company, et al. , no. 18‑cv‑02223 (c. D. Cal. ) allege that 20112018 and certain 2019 kia optima, 20122018 and certain 2019 kia sorento, and 20112018 and certain 2019 kia sportage vehicles suffer from a defect that can cause engine seizure, stalling, engine failure, and engine fire, that engine seizure or stalling can be dangerous if experienced, and that some owners and lessees have been improperly denied repairs under the vehicle's warranty. Neither kmc nor kma have been found liable for any of the claims alleged in these lawsuits. The parties have instead reached a voluntary settlement in order to avoid a lengthy litigation. The individuals who owned or leased class vehicles are known as class members. settlement class members may be entitled to compensation if they submit valid and timely claims that are approved pursuant to the review process described in this notice and approved by the court. Even though I am receiving the recall information, I am being told my VIN is not in the recall. I have already paid for the engine repair because I was initially turned down when the engine locked up during driving on a highway.
The oil warning light flashed on and of mostly at intersections. We took it in for service. There was coolant/water in the oil. Also, they said it had extremely low oil pressure at idle. The repair shop stated that there was a possibility the car could catch on fire and also the possibility of engine failure.
Complete oil lose, diagnostic indicates engine failure. Vehicle was in motion on a busy interstate 93 in new hampshire. . Oil light began to flash and power lose developed. Navigating the vehicle became difficult and collision was narrowly avoided as the vehicle came to rest in the breakdown lane.
Engine failed during regular daily driving. Spun rod bearing was the diagnosis. Engine was less than 1 quart low, not enough to cause engine seizure.
Vehicle stopped running without any warning, kia diagnosed it as engine failure requiring new engine and would not consider any portion of the repair cost as its obligation even though it would be warrantied to a first owner well beyond the approximately 74,000 miles it has. Ultimately, gave a few hundred dollars towards a trade. I have attached the disputed case information.
2014 kia Soul. Consumer writes in regards to engine failure. The consumer stated the catalytic converter was replaced. After that, the vehicle began losing power and felt as if it was misfiring upon acceleration. The dealer advised the catalytic conveter needed to e replaced as well as the spark plugs. The spark plugs were replaced but, the converter was not. Eventually, the engine failed. The engine was replaced. The consumer referenced recall 19v12000 and stated 2014 model year vehicles should be apart of the recall. The consumer requested to be reimbursed for the repair.
While driving onto interstate Soul did not want to accelerate, engine revved but was not increasing speed, which almost caused an accident. Loud knocking began, but warning no lights were on. Vehicle was towed to local mechanic, who diagnosed engine failure. Vehicle was then towed to engine repair shop. Kia then advised vehicle be towed to kia dealership. In process of getting to dealership.
I noticed a strange clicking or sputtering of my motor and then the engine completely cut off while driving down a city street. Fortunately, I was on a street, turning right at a stop light. . . And not the freeway! found out that the engine blew and that all the oil was sucked up out of my car. My next oil change wasn't due for another 1000 miles. I had no warning lights! no nothing other than non-functioning car. Researched engine failure and found out about the recall on 1. 6 l engines (I have a 2l) but same issue. My mechanic said that he sees this at least once every 2 months in kia's. The 2l needs to be added to the recall! apparently, after research on this site, many people are complaining about the same issue. People could get hurt! what if I was on the freeway??? or, my engine caught fire??? I'm so grateful I'm alive right now.
Recently filed a complaint regarding my 2014 kia Soul engine failure, my engine is a 2. 0 it makes no sense that a 1. 6 liter engine is being recalled.
11/23/2018 1445 traveling from wilsonville or to netarts bay, or on hwy 6 westbound catastrophic engine failure/ kia engine oil defect - engine seized at highway speeds. Safely got into tillamook to call aaa for an 85 mile tow back home to wilsonville. Had a very long wait in the rain for tow truck. We regularly changed oil and performed all scheduled maintenance of which we have complete records, very clean and no accidents. No warning to any problem before incident. After the incident we had the oil checked and changed again at valvoline instant oil change in tillamook just to see if they could help. New oil did not improve the condition.
Complete engine failure - 11-5-18 - all lights came on and car died in the middle of a turn. All oil was gone from engine. Car cannot even be manually cranked. Seems to be exact same issue discovered with same year 1. 6l engines, but wasn't included in recall as a 2. 0l engine for whatever reason. 3 mechanics have quoted me a $10k repair including an entire new engine. No salvage or used engines available anywhere.
On October 27, 2018 while driving on I-10 west towards downtown baton rouge, my 2014 kia Souls engine popped and lost acceleration very suddenly in heavy traffic. It was towed immediately to all star kia of baton rouge on siegen lane where it was purchased four months prior. It was determined by the service department that the Soul had a massive engine failure which cause it to throw a rod through the engine block. It was also at this time the service department informed me that the manufactures warranty does not apply to me since I am not the original owner and kia has no responsibility for the repair or replace of the engine. After researching the problem with the engine failure online, I have found that this is a common problem with the 2014 and 2015 kia Souls. Several reports have been filed with the NHTSA concerning both engine failures and engine fires, but has not been included in the recent recalls. I implore the NHTSA to include the 2014 kia Soul in the recent recalls for Hyundai and kia due to engine fire problems.
On 10/22/2018, while driving my 2014 kia 2. 0l gid Soul, at or under 60 mph on a paved highway, moving in a straight line, I heard a clunk and the engine died at 128,048 miles. This vehicle was purchased new. All maintenance was conducted at only 2 kia dealerships while under warranty. The vehicle was towed to the primary dealership but had to towed to storage several days until I returned . It was subsequently towed back to the dealership- now under new ownership. I requested a diagnosis of the engine failure but it was not done, reason unknown, so I ordered an engine replacement. The vehicle was in the shop April 10 to June 25, 2019, at which time I turned in my rental car and paid for the engine- again, not receiving a report as to why the engine failed in a catastrophic manner. Between 5/22/2019 and 7/30/2019, I attempted to communicate with kia USA by phone and emails to consumer affairs. On 7/30/2019, during a phone conversation, representative brandon offered a reimbursement of $750 for rental and towing fees in lieu of discussing something reasonable to the costs totaling $8,193. 43. He was to call me back on or about 8/02/2019 but has not. Today, 8/10/2019, I went to add a message to (kia) case number 13186735, only to learn that "this case has already been closed. . . " I believe that kia is attempting to avid reimbursing me for a loss not my fault. Records and correspondence are available. (-end-).
Tl- the contact owns a 2014 kia Soul. The contact stated that while driving at various speeds the vehicle had experienced multiple failures including hesitation to accelerate, stalling and burning odors coming from the engine, the engine light had illuminated and the brake pedal extended to the floor while attempting to stop. The vehicle was taken to the local dealer who was unable to determined the cause of the failures. The brakes were replaced but the failure continued to occur. No further information was available. The vehicle continued to experience the failures before eventually the engine would no longer start. The cause of the engine failure was not yet determined. The manufacturer was notified of of the failure(case 13377834) the failure mileage was 20,000. Jft.
I lent my car to a friend whom while driving the engine began running rough, he pulled quickly into a gas station and parked. He checked the engine oil and there was none. He added 1 quart of oil and started the engine however it ran horriblely so he quickly turned it off. He notified me. I had it towed to a kia dealership who confirmed the engine needed to be replaced. Since the vehicle came with a lifetime engine warranty plus I kept the car maintained according to dealer requirements they forwarded my maintenance records to a third company which is researching the cause of the engine failure and will then decide if they will replace the engine. The car had 105,000 miles on it with no problems up until that time.
Car randomly start vibrating, misfiring, and it would not increase in speed. It would be difficult to turn on from a cold start. The the engine failed, sent it out to the dealer to work on it under warranty, and we've had an open case since. Then recently my son was driving the car while in motion on its own the engine shut down while driving, making is highly unsafe to drive.
