2 Engine Stall problem of the 2013 Kia Motor Sportage

Failure Date: 06/05/2020

While driving on the free the engine had a small pull on it. I didn't think anything of it however just a few moments later, the engine stalled. On the middle of the free way. I was going to freeway speed limit(70) maybe 5/6 over. It was one of the most scariest moments ever, I had time to at least pull over on the side of the freeway but I couldn't believe the engine stopped while driving. Also yes I did get my regular tune ups as well as oil change every 3 months. This car was well taken care of. I love how the engines before this one were recalled but there's so any complaints on there current engine and they won't recall them.

The contact got out the vehicle and managed to push the vehicle with assistance from a bystander to the shoulder of the road state farm was contacted and towed the vehicle to the contact residence. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure and informed the contact to take the vehicle back to the dealer where no further assistance was taken. The failure mileage was approximately 129,806. 4 Engine Stall problem of the 2013 Kia Motor Sportage

Failure Date: 02/01/2020

I was driving in the city with my baby in the back seat when I stopped at a red light, when the light turned green I pressed the gas to hear a loud knocking under the hood of my car and my engine stalled in the middle of the intersection. I had the car towed to my local garage who said the engine threw a rod and needed to be replaced, I then towed it to the kia dealership and discussed with consumer affairs the issue. They agreed to replace my engine in good faith stating that this issue is being recalled in over 1 million vehicles of the same make but my 2013 kia Sportage does not fall under the recall solely due to the fuel injector that is used on my engine(I have an mfi instead of a gdi) and noted that it has happened in the same exact engine in many of the vehicles. After picking up my car and paying out of pocket for the tows and additional repairs relating to replacing my engine kia has refused to provide reimbursement and also refused to provide my engine with the lifetime warranty and knock detection sensor that the gdi models are receiving and replaced my short block with the same engine. This has now became a class action lawsuit and kia refuses to acknowledge that this is happening in the theta 2 mfi motors as well.

5 Engine Stall problem of the 2013 Kia Motor Sportage

Failure Date: 01/12/2020

The car stopped working without warning in the middle of the road. No lights, smoke etc. . . It just shot off and did not start again. We were lucky it was a Sunday, traffic was light, and no other cars were immediately behind. I towed it to a mechanic and was told the engine stalled. The car has 79 k miles and has had oil changes as it should. I am being told by kia this is not part of the existing engine recall, that I am a second owner (I bought it with 23,000 miles in 2016 as a certified pre-owned), yet what happened to my car is the same as described by other kia owners whose cars were under recall.

6 Engine Stall problem of the 2012 Kia Motor Sportage

Failure Date: 09/12/2019

Tl- the contact owns a 2012 kia Sportage. The contact stated that while driving the vehicle a knock noise was present coming from the engine before the vehicle stalled. The vehicle was towed to an independent mechanic who diagnosed that the engine bearing rod had damaged the engine. The vehicle was not yet repaired. The manufacturer was contacted in reference to the failure and informed that the vehicle was not included in the NHTSA recall campaign number 17v224000(engine and engine cooling). The local dealer was not notified. The failure mileage was 206,000. Jft.

7 Engine Stall problem of the 2013 Kia Motor Sportage

Failure Date: 05/23/2019

The engine was running and my husband was in our daughter's driveway. He put the car in reverse so our son-in-law could leave for work and the engine stalled (later finding out it seized). Not knowing the problem, they tried to jump start the car with no luck. We called aaa at 10am and to make a long story short, after 4 aaa calls, the car was towed to shorkey kia dealership. We had to pay $119 for a diagnosis. Then were told the batter was bad ($172). After the batter was put I, we were told the starter was bad (didn't get that price). After the starter was put in we got a call that the car started and immediately the engine seized. Because the same year, make, and model of the kia Sportage had recalls that directly resulted in the engine seizing, we checked for this recall, but the VIN number is not listed as a recall. How many recalls on the same problem must occur before another VIN number is added to the list? my husband could have been on the parkway when the engine seized or in a dangerous location and could have been killed or in a wreck. Shorkey said kia is not covering anything and we need a new engine for $10,000. The car mileage is under 56,000 miles and it makes no sense that an engine should seize and be bad at this low mileage level unless there's a flaw in manufacturing, which there obviously is since other 2013 kia Sportages have been recalled (the recall which caused other kias to have their engine seize as well.

8 Engine Stall problem of the 2012 Kia Motor Sportage

Failure Date: 05/03/2019

2012 kia Sportage 2. 4 mpi, engine stalled on road, loud knocking from engine. Dealership stats not covered under warranty and requires new engine. Vehicle only had 111,000 miles and had frequent oil changes every 5000 miles with full synthetic.

9 Engine Stall problem of the 2011 Kia Motor Sportage

Failure Date: 02/09/2019

I've been experiencing issues with my engine for over 5 years on my 2011 kia Sportage that are same issues described for the sc147 recall with the bearing wear issue. It's extremely unsettling to drive on the highway as this is only when the problem occurs at a higher speed (anything over 60 mph). I will be driving at speed and the engine for a split second with stall out and shoot right back to the high speed. The car jolts and the engine light will flicker. If you continue to drive the problem increases and happens more along the route unless you drop down to 50. However after you continue to drive the car will begin to shake and if you slow down it idle's very loud and as if to stall and the engine light will come on and remain on. Once the car is shut off and allowed to sit all problems go away until the next time. For 5+ years I have complained of this issue with the dealership and never have they found a problem. My VIN is not listed on this recall but can it be the same problem?.

12 Engine Stall problem of the 2007 Kia Motor Sportage

Failure Date: 02/11/2013

When driving through a puddle of standing water, the 'splash' of water that entered the engine compartment caused the 'charging' warning light to illuminate, the engine to stall, resulting in the loss of power assist to both steering and brakes. This had never occurred in all my previous years of ownership, but has recurred multiple times since. I had vehicle serviced this week and was told this was 'normal' and related to the alternator on the vehicle being mounted 'low to the ground'. Well, the alternator position has not changed, and I had driven through puddles many times over the previous six years without incident. I don't know if this is a design flaw or a dealership that simply was not able to diagnose the issue, but loss of braking and steering assist compromises safe operation.

13 Engine Stall problem of the 2007 Kia Motor Sportage

Failure Date: 10/27/2012

When driving through a puddle of standing water in October 2012, a 'splash' of water entered the engine compartment caused the engine in my 2007 kia Sportage to stall, resulting in the loss of power assist to both steering and brakes. This occurred several times in 2012 and 2013. But, in 2014, it has happened much more often. Enough to force me to take my Sportage into a kia dealership to see if they could diagnose the problem. They tried to recreate the problem using a hose, since they did not wish to have their employees try to drive it in actual rain. They were not successful in making the car stall. Therefore, I was told that there is no problem with the engine. Recently, I have learned that the ignition coil is what is getting wet and stalling the car. If kia is willing to replace the ignition coil, it does not solve my problem. The ignition coil will still be in a vulnerable place under my car. I would expect the same to happen in the future even with a new ignition coil. I cannot have my car stall out on a major highway in the rain while going 70 miles an hour. It is an accident waiting to happen. I refuse to endanger myself and my family, as well as others on the road, with a problem that kia is aware of. Unfortunately, I do not have another vehicle at my disposal. Looking at information on the internet, this is a known problem that kia has not done anything but recall and replace the ignition coil. My mechanic was able to find several web sites mentioning this defect. The dealership said that they checked their databases and did not find any such problems/recalls about stalling or ignition coils. Loss of braking and steering is a major safety issue. Do I need to wait for injury or death to get a resolution?.

14 Engine Stall problem of the 2005 Kia Motor Sportage

Failure Date: 03/07/2009

During all of the 5 incidents in 2009 the engine misfired violently. At times 35mph was max speed. Cronin kia had my vehicle over 30 days in 5 visits in 2009. They have replaced; two cat. Converters, the ignition coil pack and spark plugs, a leaking fuel injector and associated wiring. Please note the error codes for visits 1 and 5 (3/17/09 and 7/14/09); p0300-p0303-p0305-p0273. Visit number1 also had codes; p0420-p0430 and p0170. The duplicate codes indicate the problem affects "bank 1 only. Code p0170 spells out the problem; "fuel trim malfunction-bank 1". The destroyed catalytic converters were the result of the fuel trim problem. The same for the leaking fuel injector. I believe it is only a matter of time before the other bank 1 injectors fail. The fuel trim must be a function of the vehicle's computer. I believe the "bank 1 fuel trim malfunction" and/or the electronic stabilization program (esp) and/or the vehicle's computer are the source of this dangerous problem. There is a recall on the esp; SC-044 - March, 2005. "the esp system may cause the engine to reduce power and may cause a braking action at one of the wheels". "brake application caused by inadvertent esp activation may result in loss of control and a crash". The front brake pads on my vehicle were worn out at 41,000 miles. I asked kia customer service in an initial letter if this was premature. Of course, I received no answer. After the number 5 incident(July, 2009) the engine would stall even after a leaking fuel injector and associated wiring were replaced. It stalled less than a mile from cronin and three times the next day. During the number 5 incident the esp shut itself off; "esp off" appeared in the instrument panel. I passed this information to jeff wyler kia service department. This was ignored. The final (number 6) attempt to repair the problem consisted of a joy ride after which they declared; "all operations are normal" they consider this problem amusing. They refused to contact kia!.

Both my 4 year old son & I almost lost our lives when my engine stalled on an interstate speed limit 70 cars turning everyway to avoid us, I really felt there was no hope when I saw an 18 wheeler approaching, I turned to move my son from the rear seat to the front so I could at least hold him, the driver saw me and when he managed to stop his rig was jackknifed and 1 side hit the block barrier.
