3 Loud Engine Noise problem of the 2013 Kia Motor Sportage

Failure Date: 10/19/2020

On 10/19/2020 I was traveling at approximately 70 mph on an oregon state highway when my car suddenly lost all power. I had to get to the side of the road and when I looked at the dash all the indicator lights were on and my engine was not running. My car started, but I was only able to drive a few miles at low speed before it started making a horrible sound. I stopped again and was stranded without cell service and waited for assistance. A few hours later I was towed into the nearest town. They couldn't help me, so I had it towed to the nearest kia dealer (approx 200 miles). They told me the noise was caused by a worn connecting rod bearing and I needed a new engine. The estimated cost is $7,212. The kendall kia dealer in nampa, idaho and kia consumer affairs have both told me that none of the cost would be covered; I do not have an extended warranty and they will assume no responsibility. The odometer reading was 85,246 miles and it had been well maintained.

12 Loud Engine Noise problem of the 2013 Kia Motor Sportage

Failure Date: 11/14/2019

I was driving down a busy highway when I started hearing a loud noise coming from my car. Soon after this, the car stopped working. My three month old daughter was in the car. It was 10:00 pm which makes this highway much more dangerous and was going at high speeds. Was barely able to park the vehicle (thankfully I was on the right lane). I had the vehicle towed to my kia dealer and after checking the vehicle they informed be that I needed a new engine. Even though there is an engine recall for 2013 kia Sportage vehicles with the same exact problem, they claimed that my car is not included in the recall. I am now waiting to see if the warranty covers the damage. They want to inspect the engine first. Taking the engine down alone costs $1,000 if the warranty refuses to cover the repairs. My question why isn't kia repairing all vehicles with this problem?? why isn't my VIN par of the recall?? we could have lost our lives that day, including my 3 month old baby. Kia must be forced to cover the cost of replacing these faulty engines before lives are lost. Us, kia customers, should not be forced to cover the cost ourselves. My vehicle is only 75,000 miles.

13 Loud Engine Noise problem of the 2012 Kia Motor Sportage

Traveling home on interstate highway at 75 mph when I suddenly heard an unfamiliar noise coming from the engine compartment. A few seconds later, some louder noises came from the engine area and I lost all power and lots of lights lit up on the dash. I could immediately smell burning oil and noticed blue smoke in my rear view mirror and what looked like a circular part sliding on the pavement behind me which I knew was some part from the car. I pulled over onto the shoulder and lifted the hood and saw flames on the rear of the engine on the exhaust area. I used 10 or 12 handfuls of snow from the ditch to throw on the fire to get it out. Had it towed to the nearest city and had to rent a car to get home. I know that the engine blew up. I saw oil from the engine on the shoulder right up to where it came to rest.

17 Loud Engine Noise problem of the 2013 Kia Motor Sportage

Failure Date: 07/02/2019

My 2013 kia Sportage ex has a failed engine at 50k miles. On July 2nd, 2019 at about 1:15pm I was driving and without any warning I heard a loud sound come from the engine so I immediately pulled over and checked the engine. I saw oil pouring out of the engine block. It was towed to a local kia dealership who confirmed that engine was leaking out of a hole in the engine block. The gentleman from the service department at the local kia dealership stated that the connecting rod broke off the barring and shot out of the engine block. As I did some research this is the exact issue kia has issued recalls for to fix on kia Sportage 2011-2013 models and other models as well; however, my VIN is not included in their set of recalls. I was told to contact kia consumer affairs because my car is not under warranty because I am not the original owner as I purchased the vehicle from a dealership back in 2014 with 10k miles on it. Today is 8/19/19 and I am still waiting for a final answer regarding a good will claim from kia consumer affairs which means I am still with out my car. Kia is taking advantage of its customers by not issuing a wider recall regarding their defective engines and forcing its customers to pay for replacement engines.

When I did an oil change on my Sportage I turned on my car and it started making a loud noise and it was shaking with alot of turbulence, it was yanking and forcing itself it felt like it was going to shut down it was a scary feeling since I was driving it and all of a sudden it went to being driveable up to 20 to 15 mph. I saw there's a recall on the Hyundai and kia, included are the 20132014 Hyundai sonata and santa fe, 20112014kia Sportage, 20112014 optima, and 20122014 sorento. During machining of the engine crankshaft and crankpins, metal shavings may have been left within the crankshaft oil passages, and the crankpins themselves may be too rough on the edges. As a result, oil may be blocked and cause the connecting rod bearings to wear, which would then cause them to fail and seize the whole engine. That, of course, would cause the car to stall during driving.

25 Loud Engine Noise problem of the 2012 Kia Motor Sportage

Failure Date: 11/09/2018

On 11/09/2018 our son was driving home after visiting his father in the hospital. He called and said the kia had began shaking and the engine light came on so he immediatly turned into a parking lot . The car made some loud noises and completly lost power before he could park in a space. This was around midnight and he is a teenager so he was really upset . As I was at the hospital with his dad he called a friends parent to pick him up . The next day we had car towed to kia dealer. The following week the dealer called and said engine was unrepairable . As soon as my husband was released from hospital we went to dealer on the following Friday and got quote of over 5000. 00 to fix with a new short block engine. Of course our VIN is not included in the recalls of this engine but we feel certain this failure is the result of kias faulty engine. This car did have 144,000 miles that were interstate commuter miles and I had always kept the oil changed. Prior to this the only thing repaired was the radio and a new battery. There was zero warning of any approaching problem with the engine. It did not use oil, drip any fluids or give any indication anything was wrong. Fortunalty this happed late at night with no traffic and not to me during my daily interstate commute.

Ultimately we had a hole in our engine. I have only had this vehicle 2 years but now it is rendered useless. Are you kidding me?! we have two options for an engine, one is $8000 and the other $12,000! how do I know this won't happen again?? I can't afford to fix it, I still owe on it.
