Kia installed ksds software update. After installation the malfunction as described in the recall notice occurred. I contacted kia and I am having difficulty with having them cover the extended warranty provided by the recall after the recall completion.

Addendum to complaint on Kia Motors,kia America, citrus kia , their sell of first a brand new 2015 kia soul,now recalled 5 yrs later after we begged for help. We are 2 disabled person s who were duped by kia and citrus, traded in going into further debt after getting no where with NHTSA, kia etc. Kia motors traded and financed a brand new 2018 kia Sportage only to have dangerous problems with it. Kia knowingly sold us 2 dangerous vehicle s, we had the knock sensor installed per the "upgrade", farce, should be recall. The car stalled in traffic and another dealership put in a wiring harness extension. We only have 13,000 miles on this car because we do not feel safe. The dealership did an oil change last year and day before yesterday. I received a text that our fuel needed additive. It is in " fair condition", recommend with every oil change. Not true, never recommended before and 13,000 miles. It should not need additive anywhere. See attached screenshot. I fully believe they are covering up even more as it relates to the problem ie settlement? seriously. Our car is worth nothing. I implore our new head of transportation to look into our complaints since 2015 to include the inquiry by senator marco rubio. Joseph and julie mraz ♿ kia soul 2015 to kia Sportage 2018. The vehicle had been repaired but upon retrieving the vehicle from the independent mechanic and starting the vehicle smoke was seen coming from the front of the vehicle. The contact opened the hood and saw a fire behind the engine compartment. The fire department was contacted and was able to extinguish the fire. A police report was filed. The vehicle was then towed to kia of cherry hill (1803 marlton pike w, cherry hill, NJ 08002) where it was deemed a total loss. The contact was relating this issue to NHTSA campaign number: 21v137000 (service brakes, hydraulic). The manufacturer had been informed of the failure and referred the contact to the kia engine settlement hotline. The failure mileage was 80,542.

While driving vehicle and trying to pass a slow moving vehicle on a highway it stalled with no warning, I had to coast to a safe location where I could pull over. Car was towed to rally kia in palmdale CA. Would not start again after stalling while driving with no warning lights flashing . I was told by rally that engine seized and had to be replaced. Driving down the interstate between 60-70 mph when the engine began to sputter just prior to stalling coasted to the shoulder. Upon visual investigation noticed fresh oil on the road under the car coming from the the bottom of the engine compartment . Called for a tow truck as we were 700+ miles away from home. As the vehicle was being loaded onto the tow truck noticed metal fragments on the road by the fresh oil. Vehicle was towed to citrus kia in ontario, CA,. We are currently waiting for our vehicle to be brought home to utah on a car hauler semi. The service dept at the dealership informed us of a recall on kia engines that we believe is the reason for our problem. Very upset that we were never informed of this problem or to go have it looked at.

While driving approximately 65mph on the highway, all vehicle warning lights came on and our 2012 kia Sportage lx stalled. Fortunately, the driver was able to avoid a collision while coasting to a roadside stop on a busy highway, but the vehicle could not be restarted. After leaving passengers stranded roadside on a Sunday evening, the vehicle was towed to a kia dealership that completed a diagnostic workup and determined that the 2. 4 l dohc mpi theta ii engine with 92,361 miles required replacement. Regular maintenance had been completed and the vehicle was in otherwise excellent condition. The kia warranty was not honored as we were not original owners and the extended warranty purchased from the kia dealership had just expired. The cost of a replacement engine was quoted to be $7,500 for the engine alone excluding labor which exceeded the value of the car prior to this incident. Per dealership recommendations, kia's corporate customer service was contacted to request reconsideration. Although the staff was very nice and committed to refile the warranty request for reconsideration and call us within 72 business hours, we were never contacted by kia with a final decision.

The Hyundai 2. 4l engine (g4kc, g4ke, g4kg, g4kj) belongs to the theta/theta ii engine family. It is a 2. 4-liter four-cylinder gasoline engine with multi-point or direct injection depends on the generation and in which vehicle it is used. Like other engines, Hyundai shares this power unit with kia brand. The 2. 4l is very similar to the 2. 0l version of the same theta series, with slight differences due to the increased engine displacement and internal loads. The engine has aluminum open-deck cylinder block and aluminum cylinder head. The increased displacement was achieved by installing a new crankshaft with 97 mm stroke (two-liter engine has 86 mm stroke). The cylinder bore is also larger. In this case, the engine got new pistons with a diameter of 88 mm (instead of 86 mm pistons). The cylinder head has 4 valves per cylinder (16 valves total) and double overhead camshafts (dohc). The crankshaft drives the intake and exhaust camshafts by using a timing chain. The first theta engines use the continuously variable valve timing (cvvt) for intake timing only. The later generation, theta ii engine, is equipped with the variable valve timing system cvvt on both camshafts. There are not hydraulic lifters/tappets in the valvetrain of the 2. 4l engine; it uses shimless bucket lifters (clearance adjustment is required about every 60k miles). Most of Hyundai's and kia's 2. 4 engines are equipped with multi-point fuel injection (mfi or mpi). The newest engines, named as 2. 4 gdi, have direct injection.

My car stalled and emit a large cloud of exhaust when stopped at a stop light with no prior indication of any kind of problem. Kia has now told me I need a full engine replacement.

My parking brake no longer sets, it just pumps and never locks. So I hope I don't have to park on any hills for a while. Also, my heating and air goes wonky sometimes and won't show me the actual temp or give me the option to increase or decrease in temp or mode unless I park and turn the engine off, start it again, then turn off the whole cooling or heating system and then mess with it more. My car is also often times in drive, and it'll rev up for no reason to the red line, then stall and coast to a stop. I've been lucky my kids have yet to be with me with this happening and it's been on back roads with little traffic. All these things while car is in drive/motion, except parking brake, that is obviously while in park that I've noticed.

Driving to work I heard a knocking in the engine. The car stalled all the lights on the dash came on. A rod had broken. Took to local kia dealer and was told this is a common, frequent problem with this engine and while many other kia engines were recalled for some reason mine was note. There are many other complaints of the exact same thing happening with this car. I feel this engine should be recalled also.

I was driving at about 40mph with my 16 month old in the car and heard a dull knocking noice. As I approached a stop light my car stalled and the engine light came on. I turned my engine over again and it started up with the same knocking noice that got louder as I accelerated. I made it up the road to advanced auto who told me I needed it towed as it was likely my engine seizing. Had it towed to my independent mechanic who confirmed a rod had come loose due to bad bearings and that I need a completely new engine. Kia has told me that as a 2nd owner on a non transferable 10yr 100k mike warranty I am not covered also that my VIN is not part of the sc147 recall although the same motor in other models of the same years had been recalled along with the other 300ish reports on here. 88k miles regular oil changes maintenance and inspections still owe on my loan and now have to come up with 7k to repair my now 7yr old car.

The car has a rough idle. It will stall randomly, sometimes while in traffic. The computer has been replaced and numerous sensors have been checked. The problems occurred when we first bought the car used in December 2009. It was fixed but began happening again in the fall of 2018. The random stalling occurred again in late summer 2019 and has been a problem ever since.

I was driving the vehicle came to a stop at a red light , the vehicle had stalled on its own tried turning it back over and it would not do anything we had to push the vehicle out of the middle of an intersection unbelievable! the motor seized up for no reason and left me stranded now kia will not do anything about it the vehicle only has around 51,000-52,000 miles!.

We were driving down hwy 75 s the car was on cruse control , the engine began to rev up so I took the cruise control off , the car began to knock so I was making my way to the edge of the road when flames and smoke began coming from the rear of the car . Other drivers began to call 911 and reported my car was on fire. At this time I heard a load noise from the engine and the engine blew . I was able to make it to the side of the road and turned off the engine . Police , fire and roadside assistance all showed up . My kia and the year are among the recall engine but my VIN number is not , so kia consumer will not do anything to help me . I have done my research on here and have seen many other kia engines on here the same as mine that have done the same exact thing but not been in the recall . It is time kia steps up and does something about this . There was only 92 thousand miles on my engine all oil changes were good new air filter just installed and tires just rotated , I took very good care of my car it was not abused . But kia is offering nothing to help . They did state that they will send it further up the chain . That could take weeks .

Vehicle was in motion on a street when suddenly slowed (as if it wanted to stall) and engine light/engine oil pan/battery lights all came on. . Turned car off then back on and slowly drove home (30 miles) no faster than 60mph. This happened again 1 day later before it was towed to my local kia dealership. Kia recall #sc174 NHTSA #19v101.

The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic who replaced the starter to get the engine restarted and got an oil change. The contact stated that the oil change place stated that the oil pan needed to be replaced. The vehicle drove a short distance from the oil change place and the motor burst into flames underneath the hood. The front motor compartment under the hood was damaged. The fire was put out by the contact. The fire department was called and filed a report. No police report was filed and there no injuries. The vehicle was towed back the used car dealer the contact bought the vehicle from. The failure mileage was 123,000. Tf.

The vehicle was then towed to finnin kia (4355 Dodge st, dubuque, IA 52003) where it was diagnosed that the connecting rods failed and needed replacing. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. I returned home from vacation driving down my street and vehicle shacked then stalled. The vehicle started back as I was able to get vehicle home. The next day vehicle wouldn't start so I bought a battwry cause it was no power to the vehicle. After replacing the battery vehucle still had no power. Towed vehicle to shop that Monday and was advised my motor was locked up. I check online about my type of vehicles and learned there was a recall. I contacted kia dealership and was advised that my VIN is not included in recall even though it done the same thing the recall advised would happen.

December 2018 received a notice from kia that the company was conducting a product improvement campaign to perform a software update on all 2016-2018 my Sportage vehicles equipped with 2. 4l gasoline direct injection and 2. 0l turbocharged engines to protect the engine from excessive connecting rod bearing damage. Update was to be done free of charge and would only involve the addition of newly developed computer software for the ecu. On January 3rd 2019 I had the update completed at the kia dealership from where the vehicle had been leased. Approximately 15 miles after leaving the dealership the vehicle went into "limp mode", restricting the engines rpm's and acceleration. I immediately pulled off the roadway and contacted the dealership. I was informed to return with the vehicle to the dealership. Once at the dealership I was informed that an additional wire harness would need installed and repairs would be completed within one day. Just prior to leaving the dealership I was informed that kia was instructing the dealership it would be necessary for the entire engine be replaced. At the time of the incident the vehicle on had 5800 miles on the odometer. I have been waiting in excess of two months for the vehicle. Dealership can get no further information from kia as to when the engine will be delivered. I have contacted kia 3 times and spoke with representatives that are unable to provide information on engine delivery. I was told on last call that a elevated case manager was assigned and was given his direct line. On 3/5/2018 I attempted to contact the case manager and left I message on voicemail. I have not been re-contacted as of this writing. I am also still making the lease payment on the vehicle and obviously insuring the vehicle.

I was driving on the 14 freeway the oil light flashed car stalled out I had the car towed a mechanic looked at it said a baring was thrown and there was a recall & to call the dealership. They said there was a recall but not on my VIN number there is nothing else I can do. Everything that happened is exactly what the recall stated how can I get this taken care of I need my car I'm a single mom and disabled.

The vehicle was towed to the local dealer lancaster county motors(5250 main st. East petersburg PA)who diagnosed that the motor was faulty and needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure who indicated that the VIN was not included in the NHTSA recall campaign number 19v101000(engine). Approximately seven months after the failure had occurred the owner had recieved a noticed indicating the VIN was included in the recall. The failure mileage was 150,000. Jft.
