Takata recall as I was driving the car out of no where the vehicle idled down and then stalled. I tried to restart the car but it kept stalling out. I then got it towed to kia and they found metal fragments inside the engine. This engine only has about 76000 miles on it. Dont know how this would even happen but I was doing 35 mph when it decided to stall on me with my kids in the car at a busy intersection.

While driving along the interstate, the engine seized in the vehicle. We first had it towed to our neighborhood mechanic who confirmed that the engine had seized, and that there were metal shavings found in the oil. We contacted grand kia in CO and were advised to tow the vehicle in for diagnostic, which we did. They ultimately agreed that the engine had seized due to a faulty rod bearing, and agreed that oil in vehicle was recently replaced. The vehicle was out of warranty and we were advised that our only option was to replace with a short block engine for over $6,000. We went ahead with the replacement and were advised to contact kia corporate consumer relations to see if the repair could be reimbursed upon the regional manager's discretion, which was ultimately not approved. Upon receipt of repaired vehicle, we were told there was a 12 month or 12,000 mile warranty on the work. Approximately 3 months later, while driving, the vehicle stalled again and was towed to daytona kia since we assumed the warranty would cover any issues. The technician at daytona kia replaced an axel that per their professional opinion, was not re-assembled correctly when grand kia replaced our engine. Neither grand kia nor corporate kia took responsibility for this issue so we paid out of pocked for another repair so that we could drive home. Shortly after, the engine started to make a new noise, given grand kia's lack of honoring the engine's warranty to date we decided to sell the car to cut our losses and avoid any further out of pocket expenses.

My husband and I were driving from atlanta to huntsville, alabama thus weekend(4/21/18). About 2 hours into our trip the car stalled out. We pulled over and it cranked right back up. Then as we were about 20 minutes from our final destination, the engine started knocking and then seized. We were driving on a four lane highway going about 50mph and this could have easily caused a serious accident. We had it towed to a shop that told us that a rod was thrown and then had it towed to the closest kia dealership where we were told we needed a new engine. . Because I am a second owner the warranty will not cover this. In doing research I have found hundreds of other people who have had the same thing happen to them. I have read people using the exact same word sludge in the engine over and over. I believe kia is hiding a problem and it is unacceptable. A 2013 Sportage with less than 80,000 miles on it shouldn't have this kind of engine problem. It has basically totaled the car because the engine is $6000 to replace. We have not done anything to fix it yet as we are looking into our options.
I received a product improvement campaign letter from Kia Motors of America incorporated dated December 2nd 2018 they said they would like to perform a software update to the ecu in my vehicle it also states kia is providing lifetime warranty coverage to both new and used vehicle owners for engine long block assembly repairs needed due to excessive connecting rod bearing damage upon completion of this product improvement campaign I did take the car in for the ecu sensor update and ask them exactly what does that mean and they said the ecu sensor will indicate to the driver that the engine is experiencing damage or problems and to bring it in. If it falls under the guidelines of the engine coverage they will take care of it. In the meantime I am driving around in a defective vehicle where damage is occurring as I'm driving it and it will worsen to the point that the ecu sensor will notify me when the damage is so bad that it needs to be brought in I am afraid for my safety and the safety of my passengers will this damage occur in 1 month 1 year 5 years or is it occurring each and every time I crank it up. What specific damage is occurring to the engine because the engine has many components this information I do not know will it catch on fire will it stall in the middle of traffic will it leave me stranded somewhere if the issue can be repaired or replaced why not make me that offer to repair the engine now replace the engine now or replace the vehicle is this vehicle safe to be on the road based on the concerns kia have about the long engine block assembly and the connecting rods I am a lay person with no mechanical expertise but what I'm hearing is that this car has an existing problem that could be hazardous I have not on this vehicle a full year yet an engine problems is not something a consumer wants to hear about thank you.

Tl the contact owns a 2012 kia Sportage. While driving approximately 50 mph, the vehicle stalled without warning. The contact had to coast the vehicle on a hill because it was unable to be driven. The vehicle was towed to an independent mechanic for inspection and diagnostic testing. The dealer (butler kia, 4950 crater lake Ave, medford, or 97504, (541) 776-3088) stated that the vehicle was excluded from a manufacturer recall for the engine assembly. The contact was uncertain if the vehicle would be repaired. The VIN was not available. The approximate failure mileage was 51,000.
Similar issue as sp147 for kia. Sportage has similar engine and the same issue. My engine is blown and has some metal shavings. It stalled, would not start. Had it towed to garage where they said code was for the oil control valve. Replaced but still would not run. Removed engine cover and found metal shavings and engine bad. Engine is maintained, dealership did oil change a while ago and found nothing.
Motor blew up while driving on a hwy, car stalled, which caused the steering wheel to lock up, and the breaks to stop responding.
The contact owns a 2011 kia Sportage. While driving 60 mph, the check engine indicator illuminated and the vehicle stalled. The vehicle was unable to be restarted. The vehicle was towed to a dealer, but was unable to be diagnosed. The vehicle was not repaired. The local dealer (james wood Hyundai 2110 us-287 decatur, TX 76234) informed the contact to have the vehicle inspected by the kia manufacturer. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. My engine seized up at 79,000 miles despite the standard maintenance. I was driving home from work 25-50 mph consisting of 5 stoplights and 18 miles of driving. I was noticing a lack of power but otherwise no issues. I filled up the gas tank in hopes of driving it in to get serviced. I started the car back up at the gas station and the engine light turned on. I drove approximately . 5 miles and the car stalled never to start again. I got a tow to russ darrow kia and they told me my engine was completely shot. I then had to get my engine replaced.
My faulty 2008 kia Sportage strikes again. The last 2 major incidences with my kia are documented in my nhta complaint (10621705) occurred on Aug 2013 -w/11k miles( transmission & electrical) and w/12k miles -August 2014 ( alternator &abs pump). It's now January 2017 - car has 17. 5k total miles and I needed to tow my kia Sportage 2008 to a service center after the car stalled on a major road with 2 of my kids in the car. The car is behaving similarly to how it behaved in 2013 engine knocks as it shifts into gears eventually stalling. In 2013 kia replaced the transmission and entire electrical system. As I stated in my previous complaint, there must be a design flaw associated with the car since it now appears I have the same transmission/electrical problem again 6k miles later since the last incident . Just learned today that my kia needs a new transmission ! 3 transmissions in 17,000 miles just doesn't add up.

The contact owns a 2017 kia Sportage. While driving 60 mph, the vehicle stalled without warning. The contact was able to restart the vehicle. The failure recurred on another occasion while driving 50 mph. The vehicle was taken to be repaired, but the failure recurred. The vehicle was diagnosed as having a faulty spark plug and the engine was replaced. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was 10,000.
My car stalls. It stalls while idling, at a light or while driving on a highway at 65 mph. Although the last is less common it has happened enough to be frightening. I purchased the car 3 years ago and it stalled upon leaving the dealership. It was in 3 time immediaately. Since then the kia dealership in coral springs florida has told me they find nothing wrong. Sometimes is seems to backfire before stalling and others stall quietly. It is rare fir the car to get through bumper to bumper traffic without stalling. If I idle for five or six minutes it stalls. Going around clover leaves on highways it stall. It has stalled hundred of times.
I own a 2007 kia Sportage lx with 6,0259 miles on it. I purchased this vehicle used with warranty, but of course that has expired. When driving in wet road conditions, through rain and over puddles of water my battery light will come on and the power steering will lock. I strongly believe that this is a defect in the vehicle and not due to regular 'wear and tear. ' I have read other reports of owners of this same make/model vehicle that have also had the same issues. I am scared to drive the vehicle during a rain storm, worrying that the car is going to stall and leave me stranded.

The contact owns a 2007 kia Sportage. While driving approximately 20 mph, the vehicle stalled. The vehicle was towed to an independent mechanic for diagnostic testing. The mechanic stated that the motor failed and needed to be replaced. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 165,000.
The contact is an attorney whose client owns a 2012 kia Sportage. While the client's wife was driving 65 mph, the vehicle stalled without warning. The vehicle was taken to the dealer (rick case kia sunrise 14500 w sunrise blvd, sunrise, FL 33323), but the failure could not be replicated. The failure recurred. The vehicle was taken to the dealer again and the failure recurred as the dealer drove the vehicle. It was diagnosed that the crankshaft and crank position sensors failed and needed to be replaced. The vehicle was repaired, but the failure recurred. The contact spoke to the dealer who stated that if no warning indicators illuminated, they could not assist. The failure recurred once again. The contact received notification of NHTSA campaign number: 17v224000 (engine) and took the vehicle back to rick case kia for an engine inspection. The dealer performed an oil change, replaced the dipstick, and stated that the vehicle passed per kia's specifications. The failure had not recurred at the time of the complaint. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure and stated that the contact should make an appointment with the dealer. The approximate failure mileage was 59,918.
I was driving the vehicle when it stalled, restarted than stalled again. Had it towed to the dealer who replaced the mass air flow sensor. On 6/25/14 the same happened again (intermit, runs rough then stalls out. This time the dealer found a pin on mass air flow connector was bad and the replaced clip assembly. Today, 06/28/2014 the vehicle stalled out and I had it towed to the dealer who loaned me one of their vehicles because I had to leave my vehicle.
This is part 2 of 3. . . We got a new battery installed at advanced auto. Car ran fine. The next morning , she started the car and then went into the house. My niece was there and said she heard a pop and look outside to see the car on fire. The whole front end including the passenger compartment was burnt to a crisp. I believe what happened was a faulty part in the abs (causing the light to come on) was shorting or something and that kept draining the battery. With the battery low, the battery would die before enough heat could build up, however, with the new battery, it could continue to pull power and heat up whatever faulty part was shorting out and then got hot enough to blow and cause fire. (continued in next post) 3 of 3. . .
I drove from avondale, arizona to chicago, illinois for a summer stay exactly 6 weeks ago, my 2007 kia Sportage continues to stall and turn off while idling or in traffic after 1 month and 3 attempts to have kia repair it. I decided to do a search online tonight and see if anyone else was having the same problem and eureka! this apparently is an ongoing problem with kia based on the number of owners complaining about their cars stalling while driving and being unable to be repaired! it¿s back at a kia dealership for the 4th time in a month since yesterday 7/1/11! somebody is going to get killed if there haven¿t been deaths already! my car is a 4 wheel drive with a 6l engine that I purchased in October 2007with 3,040 miles on it is still under kia¿s advertised warrenty (the very reason I bought the car in the first place), I have had no problems with it until now and have had regular maintenance. I drove from phoenix, arizona to chicago, illinois over the course of 3 days from may 9th to may 12th. 2 weeks later, (may 21st) without any other indications, it began to stall and shut off while in traffic, the initial engine shut off was while stopped for a traffic light coming home from lunch out with a friend no engine lights no warning, it stalled again when pulling in to park at her house that same evening. I could just turn the ignition off and back on and the engine restarted both times but I ended the outing and went home worried because I didn¿t want to be caught out at dusk in chicago with a stalled car. I called evergreen kia the next morning may 23th and spoke with brian bozer explained the problem it was presenting and was advised to bring the car in. at my brother¿s suggestion I then took it to the auto zone down the street at 76th and stoney island and the technician there used a handheld diagnostic meter and received a code of po711, I took the receipt with the code from the auto zone and the car in at 8am on may 23th, it stalled once.
My 2002 kia Sportage surges forward while stopped at a traffic signal. This has been an on-going problem since I purchased the vehicle in 2002. Also, the vehicle stalls on a regular basis, while at speeds in excess of 40 mph.

I own a 2000 kia Sportage ex that has repeatedly stalled when coming to a stop or when slowing to make a turn. This has resulted in my being stopped in the middle of busy intersections/part of the way across a road, desperately trying to restart my car before being hit. It has also lost power while on the interstate, dropping from 65mph with no warning. If I do not get off the highway immediately I risk losing total power. I have taken the car to the kia dealership in durham,nc multiple times. They can not identify the problem on their computers. Independent mechanics have been unable to identify the problem. I have had all recommended maintenance done on this car.
: the contact stated while driving from 5 to 65 mph on a normal road conditions, all dash lights dimed completely. The horn was also affected by the electrical failure. The engine started to shake up and the steering became difficult until the vehicle completely stalled. There was also a problem with the automatic transmission. The vehicle was taken to the dealership who was apprehensive to accept the vehicle for repairs. Based on the power train warranty, the vehicle was accepted for inspection.
While driving at 30 mph vehicle stalled without warning. Vehicle was towed to the dealership, and technician determined that wiring and connectors failed.

Have had recurrent problems with engine performance idle and running. Engine racing with rpm's to 3500 at stop sign. Have had to turn vehicle off to resolve problem. I was afraid that if I did not turn engine off, idle would have continued to race and "blow up. " engine also has very rough idle/alternating with intermittent misfires most of the time. . . "bogging" down to almost stall /then racing to rpm of 1500-2500. This problem occurs when attempting acceleration onto freeway or when driving around town at signals. Vehicle has been to dealer 4 times now in attempts to correct malfunctions. I am concerned that the operation of this vehicle is unsafe. The dealer has been helpful but unable to completely resolve the problem. The manufacturer insists that problem will be resolved, but I, the consumer believe that the vehicle is unsafe and unreliable. It is also time consuming to repeatedly return the car for service.
