Check Engine Light On Problems of Kia Motor Sportage - part 1

On 12/24/18 my 2015 kia Sportage engine seized as I was entering the highway. The car was towed towed to the dealer. The dealer informed me that the engine needed to be replaced, but it could take a couple of months before they got a new engine. I did not get my car until mid August of 2019. When I got my car back it was consuming a lot of gas. I was not aware of the high fuel consumption until I took my car on a road trip about a month after I got my car and it was only giving me only about 200 miles for a full tank of gas on the highway. I informed the dealer of the issue, but they only asked why I had waited so long. I told them it was not apparent to me because I was only driving my car for errands. They would not check my car as it was not throwing any errors. I continued complaining and they finally did a diagnostic after which they told me I needed to replace the oxygen sensors. I had the oxygen sensors replaced, but car continued to consume too much gas. A few months later I received a recall notice for "high pressure fuel pipe may leak". I took the to the car to the dealer around late may or early June of 2021 and they conducted the recall repairs. I was also reimbursed for my out of pocket expenses for replacing oxygen sensors. After the recall repairs, my car still continued to consume too much gas. Towards the end of February 2021 the check engine light came on and I started smelling exhaust fumes inside my car. The dealer did a diagnostic on 3/8/21 and told me the catalytic converter failed, but it was out of warranty so I had to pay for the repairs. My car just reached 103k miles and has been having issues since the engine seized and was replaced. I'm on a fixed income and can't afford to pay for the repairs and now I have a car I can't drive because it has lost power and smells of exhaust fumes inside my car.

The vehicle coasted to the side of the road and shifted into park. The vehicle was towed to an independent mechanic to be diagnosed. The contact was informed that metal debris was found in the engine. The contact contacted oakes kia (2900 burlington st, north kansas city, mo 64116, (816) 474-2900) and was informed that there was a total engine loss due to metal debris found in the engine which created a hole in the piston. The dealer had not diagnosed nor repaired the vehicle. The manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 94,000.

When driving in traffic engine shuts off with no warning. Complete loss of engine power. Have to come to a complete stop in lane of traffic and then put vehicle in park and restart engine. Happened 3 times in last month. My kia Sportage 2019 only has 18,000 miles on it. No check engine lights on. Extremely unsafe and kia services very unhelpful. Vehicle was in motion all 3 times this happened on a city street going straight in traffic.

I have a 2011 kia Sportage ex awd. I was driving on the interstate when the check engine light came on followed by knocking and then my engine seized. Totally locked up. My engine is a theta ii but it's the mpi engine. Took it to dealership who told me it's not under recall so I'd have to pay for a new engine. I'm finding hundreds of posts online from owners with the same engine that I have having the same problem. Why is there no recall for these engines? canada has already included them in its recall.

I was riding down the road and the airbag light came on. Two days later the check engine light came on. My mechanic thinks it is a sensor for the check engine light. Having trouble with covid-19 getting the part, been waiting for over a week. My mechanic has recommended me taking the car to a kia dealer ship with the airbag light coming on. He though for sure it would have a recall but I do not see one listed.

Tl the contact owns a 2013 kia Sportage. The contact stated while driving 65 mph, the vehicle loss motive power and stalled with the check engine warning light illuminated. The contact coasted the vehicle to the shoulder of the roadway, turned the vehicle off and restarted the vehicle however, the vehicle failed to resume normal operation. The vehicle was towed to kia of irvine (45 oldfield, irvine, CA 92618) where it was diagnosed and determined that the engine seized and needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The contact referenced NHTSA campaign number: 17v224000 (engine and engine cooling) as a possible solution to the failure however, the VIN was not included. The manufacture was not made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 151,000.

No check engine or oil light displayed. Engine has 183,936 miles. Engine started rattling while pressing accelerator and continued to get worse.

Merging on to highway at about 45 mph, vehicle started to stall and suddenly stopped and completely shut off on the middle of the highway. Check engin light came on but there was no check engine light or any other issues wrong with the vehicle prior. It was regularly maintained and oil changed. Had it towed to kia dealership where they confirmed that the engine had seized and said it was out of warenty and not part of recall. 1 affected product.

While merging (accelerating) onto the interstate highway the engine abruptly shut off and my 2018 kia Sportage 2. 4l rolled to a stop in the merge lane. I restarted the vehicle to move it to off the road to a safer location and the engine seemed to be limiting the vehicle power. The check engine light flashed. I later found out that the engine was putting out a trouble code p1326 which I understand from a code search may be related to excessive engine vibration issues. I am taking the vehicle to the kia dealer for analysis. My understanding is that (Hyundai motor group) who are the parent company of Kia Motors have a recall for replacement of the 2018 2. 4l Hyundai engines but not yet for the kia engines, though these engines are manufactured nearly identically.

I was driving to pick up my kids from school when my vehicle started to stall and suddenly stopped and completely shut off on the middle of the highway. After 118,000 miles on a well maintained vehicle the 2. 4 liter engine in my 2013 kia Sportage seized. I was traveling at approximately 25 mph on my way to my mechanic because my check engine light came on when my motor seized and I came to an abrupt stop.

The engine was replacced however the failure reoccured. The vehicle was taken to beaverton kia service & parts 12520 sw canyon rd, beaverton, or 97005 503) 526-2186 where diagnosed there was metal in the engine. The contact was referred to orgininal dealer. The failure mileage was 109,000 and 115,000. The contact stat\ed the failure was similar to NHTSA campaign number 17v224000 engine and engine cooling. Ap.

I was driving on the freeway going about 65 miles an hour. I noticed I wasn't accelerating at the same speed. I put my foot on the gas harder and the internal lights went off and check engine light came on. I barely had enough time to move to the shoulder. I got it towed to the mechanic who most recently did the last oil change and tune up. They call me and told me the engine seized and they couldn't get it to turn. They recommended I take it to the dealership. The mechanic said it should still be under warranty. I am currently waiting to hear if its "my fault" since its a 3rd party warranty company.

Sometimes when we accelerate the car stalls & revs up, then it will act fine, but the check engine light will stay on for a bit. Then goes off and it acts normal. This is all while driving. This has been happening over a few months,,,it's just every so often.

The car check engine light comes on while driving. Putting the car into limp mode. Very dangerous in traffic. Low power. The car has to be towed. They replace a single wire under the hood each time. . Happened 3 times in 1. 5 years. They are not fixing the car, just putting a band aid on it ,and kicking the can down the road.

Our Sportage has the 2. 4 engine. At 139,000 miles while driving on the interstate the engine started knocking. The car displayed no check engine warning lights, no check oil, no temperature change. We lost power on the interstate but made it and pulled off the next exit. We had it towed to a repair shop. They diagnosed a failed engine and found metal shaving in oil.

Engine was seized at 109272 miles. Engine number: g4keah41 is a 2. 4l 16 valve dohc i4. . Car was not turning over initially, but after about 19 seconds would start. After a few days the check engine light came on and was told the code was for the camshaft position sensor and it needed replaced. Two days later and the day of the auto appointment to get it checked and fixed the car wouldn't start at all. After towing it to a repair center they said that two valves were completely blown and the engine needed replaced. Towed it to a kia dealer (arapahoe kia) and they said the engine also needed replaced. 7214. 76 plus towing and rental car fees for approximately 1. 5 months of it being in shops. Some of these engine are under recall, but I was informed mine didn't count so I moved on. . . Recent news reports lead me to believe that my engine should be part of this recall and that's why I'm reporting now.

After having an upgrade to the system our car now goes into limp mode. They have changed several parts and $4,000. 00 later they still can not fix the problem. They just keep charging us for different parts and our car still goes into limp mode even though they have said they have fixed it. One day the car will run fine and the next we will be driving and cannot go over 40 miles per hour no matter how hard you are hitting the gas. Several hours later the check engine light will come on but according to kia it has nothing to do with limp mode and all of these parts have already been replaced.

While driving home going approx. 40 mph on the freeway, the engine out of no where, completely seized up. After pulling over in busy rush our traffic the car was locked up and stopped working. There was no check engine light prior, no heat issues and there has never been any mechanical issues involving my vehicle. I have provided all maintenance documents dating back all the way to 5 years. While there are several recalls involving 2013 kia Sportages, even with these exact symptoms, I have been told numerous times mine does not apply.

I'm experiencing the same bearing wear issue that the engine recall is for but my VIN is not listed within the recall. I will be driving at speed and without warning the engine will stall out for maybe 1 to 2 seconds and then pick back up at the speed I was travelling at. In certain instances when this happens the check engine light will come on and the car will idle extremely rough until the engine is shutoff and allowed to sit for a few minutes before being restarted. I feel this is the exact complaint that the recall was issued for but my car is not listed in the recall. I feel the recall is very limited in it's scope and the recall should be extended to further VIN numbers.

Took this kia into my dealership to have a check engine light looked at and it has the exact same problem as recall number 17v224000. The service department told me that barings in cylinders 2 and 3 are going bad and that there is metal shavings in the oil pan. Exactly like the recall that my VIN in apparently not part of.

My vehicle makes a ticking/knocking and grinding nose. It runs really hard and is sluggish. The check engine light is on. It has also stalled and turned off on its own from time to time. It jerks as well, but not consistently. All of these occur while in motion.

I picked up a brand new kia Sportage sx turbo awd with 34 miles on it today. It was driving kind of hesitantly, seeming like it was misfiring. About 30 miles later, the check engine light turned on. I immediately called kia customer service as I have an established relationship with them. They advised to take it to the nearest dealership. I took my car to summit place kia in auburn hills where the initial diagnosis based on a check engine light reading was an improper fuel/air mixture in cylinder 2. I am not sure what protocol will be followed from this point or what actions will be needed to rectify this issue. However, it is apparent that there is an issue with kia's gdi turbo engines.

Bearing wear may result in engine seizure. When taken to the dealership to find out why "check engine light" came on, this was found to be the cause although the dealership seems to have messed up something while checking the vehicle and are saying that the motor needs to be replaced.

As I was driving on interstate 20, car began knocking. Pulled over to a gas station to check the oil (had enough oil) and add more, just to be on the safe side. Got back on the interstate and car began knocking louder then without warning car shut off completely. Towed it to a local kia dealership where they determined the bearings were bad and declined to help. Car has 110000 miles and gets routine oil changes. There was no prior warning; check engine light, oil light, etc.

While driving my vehicle at 70mph on a straight stretch of the freeway, the car suddenly stopped accelerating, and then I was unable to use the gas or brake and the check engine light turned on. There was no warning. I coasted to the shoulder and had to have it towed to the local kia dealer. I was told that it needs a new engine. After some research I see that there was a recall for this, but it doesn't include my VIN. It seems that many other people have had this problem and are also not part of the recall. I am really concerned about this. Luckily I have a warranty, but it doesn't cover my cost of towing or the rental car I need to get to work, so I still have a lot of unforeseen expenses. I have reached out to kia and am awaiting their response.

While parked outside of a supermarket, the engine started rattling, check engine light came. On and car shut off. I towed the vehicle to a kia dealership and was told that the vehocle needed a new engome and that they could not find the engine for me. I called kia customer service and was adviced that my VIN is not part any recall. After a lot of online research I keep running into other people's statements who had ecactly the same situation I had, with the exactly the same engine on my car, 2013 kia Sportage with a 2. 4 l. Engine. Since the kia dealership did not want to continue trying to find an engine for me, I towed it to a local mechanic who found metal shavings in the bottom pan, a cracked crankshaft and the connecting rod bearings are noticeably shaved off and scraped. This is the same problem that have been noticed in the other kias with my same engine but that were on the recall. I do not understand how my VIN is not one of those.

Check engine light came on. Mechanic tested and got code- p0017 which is unknown trouble code. The mechanic said there was a recall on this motor in other vehicles due to engine seizing up with this code. Two days after that the car is not driveable. When I went out to start the car it took awhile to turn over and won't start. The car has new battery and alternator was tested and is good. I was lucky and wasn't driving when engine seized up. Car only has 104,000 miles on it.

We were driving on a parkway at approximately 55-65 mph when without warning the check engine light, oil lamp, and battery light came on. Simultaneously my husband (the driver) reported that the car would no longer accelerate. The garage it was towed to reported that they could get the car to start but there was a noise coming from the bearings and the engine would stall shortly after. This description matches a recent recall, but on Sportages only the 2. 0l turbo engine was included, and we have the 2. 4l engine. This engine was recalled on other models, however.

My check engine light came on while driving, then went off, then starting hearing noises in the engine. Took to the dealership and they said my oil was low. I told them I get regular oil changes so I was not sure why. They said as a result I have engine failure. Until this incident I have never with my car and problem escalated very quickly. I took my car cause I wanted to get a 2nd opinion but did not get very far bc the engine just stopped. My VIN is not on the recall list but all of the syptoms described are what I experienced. I want kia to take responsibility and fix. I take care of my vehicle and litteraly had no problems until this major problem.

I was driving on the freeway at 65 mph in the slow lane when the check engine light suddenly came on, then all the service lights lit up and the car began losing power. Luckily, I was coming to an offramp and was able to make it to the end of the offramp (signal) before the car died completely. We had to push the car out of the road and around the corner to a curb as we were blocking one side of the offramp. Had I not been in the slow lane and near an offramp, the car would have died on the freeway which would have been a much more dangerous situation. Was told by kia service dept. That the engine blew because of sludge in the oil.

Yesterday when I was driving my check engine light came on. So I took it to pepboys that said the code was 791. Then, called the dealership and mechanics to find out about it. Most people that part should not had went bad. This code is for the butterfly flips in the intake manofold.
