Check Engine Light On Problems of Kia Motor Sportage - part 2

While driving my 2012 kia Sportage about 30 mph on a county road, there was a loud knocking from the engine, the check engine light came on and the car stalled. It has been diagnosed as a crank bearing issue. There is a recall on 2012 kia Sportage along with other kias and Hyundai. The recall is for 2. 4 liter engines in the optima and the sorrento but only for the 2. 0 in the Sportage. Why is this? I have a 2. 4 liter engine and there are obviously issues which led to the recall but it won't be covered. The same safety issue that is in the 2. 0 is in the 2. 4 and it needs to recalled in the Sportage just like it is in the other 2 models.

I purchased this car as first owner. I maintained my car at dealership service department where I purchased my car. Starting July 2016, my car engine would shut down randomly as I was slowing down at traffic light or freeway ramp light. This was not expected. I was really shocked and scared that someone would rear-end my car. I brought the car to dealership service three times. They can't fix it and claimed there was no check engine code for them to follow-up on. It got worse as I drove the car on the freeway about 60 mph for about 20 minutes. The engine would seized. It felt like the engine exploded. It was super scary and unsafe. I felt like the car could freeze and possibly roll-over. I brought it to the dealership service again. They said it was the map sensor and changed it. However within a week, the check engine light came on and it was pointing to the map sensor that they just changed out. I saw kia Sportage is having a recall. However, the dealership service department said my car was not part of the recall. Yet the issues described on the recall were so similar to my car's issues. I am truly worried that my life and my family's lives would be in jeopardy if I continue to drive this car. Dealership service department only pushes me around to other dealership service without fixing the issues. I really don't want to die in a car accident that's not caused by my fault but the car's malfunctioning power-train/ engine/ other issues that the dealership won't fix even if the warranty is still open and valid. Kia is ripping people off to the tune of $1,700 to $1,800 for their faulty abs brake controllers plus labor. It is a widely know problem that brake fluid seeps out of the back of this unit onto the circuit board and causes a variety of safety and mechanical issues. A year and a half ago I experienced a problem with the esc traction light coming on, followed by a flashing 4x4 light and then finally a check engine light. The worst part about this is that it then slams itself into first gear going down the road! yes, you heard that correctly. This can happen very quickly. Kia, you have a safety issue! I replaced the unit with a used one for $350 plus installation and now it has the same problem a year and a half later. There were two possible controller units for the 2008 Sportage and they look identical but are not interchangeable. The other one I can purchase new, direct from south korea as an oem part in a kia/Hyundai box for around $500. But not this one, they know they have a serious safety problem as this can unexpectedly pull you down to a crawl in heavy traffic. They also have kept the price extremely high on this unit to maximize profits on a safety item they refuse to fix. I'm looking for another used unit and then I'll dump this lemon.

While driving on the highway, we heard a thump from our 2012 kia Sportage. When we got home, my husband checked the engine and he found we had no oil. We never had a check engine or oil light come on and never had an oil spot under our car. We took it to our kia dealer and was told it needed a new engine. After reading other complaints about the same issue, I realize we were very lucky we were able to make it home with our car that night. Our kia had less than 35,000 miles on it and we changed the oil regularly , so we just knew it would be under warranty. However, because my husband did some of the oil changes himself, they would not honor the warranty- he didn't have all of the receipts for the oil and filters since 2012. The receipts we could provide from businesses that did oil changes and some copies of receipts my husband could get from the auto parts stores showed that the oil was changed often, but we didn't have all the receipts. Regardless, a vehicle with less than 35,000 miles, with proof of several oil changes, not ever having a check engine or oil light come on, and no oil spots where it's parked every day- should not run out of oil and need a new engine. I knew this had to be a defect with kia engines and after reading many complaints from other kia owners, it's obviously a known and dangerous defect and needs to be addressed.

We own the car, 2011 kia Sportage sx t-gdi, for less than 3 months and I had to take it to the dealership pretty much every other week with some issues. Last problem we had was an accelerator/speed control when the car wasn't shifting or accelerating over 25-30 mph even the rpm were up to 6-7x1000, and I was able to floor the pedal and keep it there, was no speed response. The only fix was pull over and shut off the engine, but even after that it could take several times to do the same procedure. I finally got an appointment to the dealership on Tuesday morning 11nov14, pick it up Thursday afternoon 13nov14, they said I had a bad battery that might cause the problem. So I end up paying for a new battery and replacing it, and at the same time the dealers replaced a brake lamp switch, and I was told everything works great. Next morning on Friday, same issue with the speed control, vehicle is driving unusual and on top of that the check engine light came on. Called the dealers immediately they said if the light is not flashing its safe to drive and there are no appointments available until Monday 17nov14. Sunday driving around the car had the same problems all day long and that evening coming home after filled up the tank, at about 25mph speed control was giving me a hard time and shifting at a very delayed times or not shifting at all, approaching an intersection tried to stop and the brake seized first couple times, accelerating instead of stopping, and when already entering the intersection being slippery I was able to do a slightly left sliding on the wet road after brakes finally engaged but was to late to avoid the collision with another car which had the right of way. Same problem, check engine light on, car not working properly, the dealer's service said its good to go! safe and drive-able.

Check engine is on light. No power when you apply the gas pedal. This is the 3rd time the car is at the dealership for the same problem. Previously dealership scanned for codes. Codes that where present indicated turbo boot control/position sensor and adjusted ewga rod. B.

Dealer claims they referred to previous service history. Check engine light was on. When depress gas pedal car does not responded. This is the same problem I had on July 13, 2011. Dealer scanned for codes. Did not state in work order which codes where present. Called kia tech line. Adjust turbo, inspect and adjust ewga rod on turbo. Road tested. Cleared codes and road tested again ok. Car was out of commission from August 1, 2011 at roughly 8:00 am until August 4 2011 at 3:30 pm when dealer called and said car was ready for pickup. Consumer e-mailed invoice and TSB. 08/08/11.

Coolant gauge not reading or registering thermostat temperature therefore rendering it unfit for clearing an inspection. It causes the check engine light to stay on even if coolant and/or thermostat, sensors,harness wiring wires and other things/parts connect to it has been replaced or checked for problems it still gives a false reading that the same problem is wrong with vehicle. Coolant thermostat not reaching temperature.

The contact owns a 2001 kia Sportage. On November 21, 2006, while driving 55 mph, the vehicle began to smoke. The contact noticed the smoke entering through the air vents on the passenger side of the vehicle. She pulled to the side of the road and called her local kia dealer to inquire if she could bring her vehicle in for service. The dealer advised her to bring it in the following day. The dealer replaced the blower motor, but the failure continued for the next three years. The contact also had the brake pads replaced, but the dealer has been unable to remedy the failure. The failure mileage was unknown. Updated 05/13/08 the check engine light illuminated. Updated.

In September 04, my 2002 kia Sportage check engine light illuminated. Replacement parts for coil assembly was installed. Two weeks later same problems. The car would shake violently and stall shortly after acceleration. Still continue to get check engine light, (misfires) I am now having trouble with power of engine, transmission not engaging after shifting. After acceleration car shakes and stalls, won't restart for quite some time.

Problems with windows icing up during the cold seasons on 2000 kia Sportage. An air leak caused the windows to ice shut. The engine had multiple problems which caused the check engine light to illuminate. The dealer replaced several components but the problem recurred. The fuel tank, sender unit and pressure sensor had to be replaced.

While driving check engine light appeared on the dashboard. The vehicle started to decelerate. When consumer pulled into a driveway vehicle caught on fire. Fire department extinguished the fire. The consumer's attorney believed it was a defect in the vehicle's structure. Kia denied any responsibility. (consumer on behalf of granddaughter).

Consumer stated vehicle pulls to the right and the check engine light flashes on and off. Dealer has been contacted.

Recall 99v325000 concerning stalling. Vehicle was experiencing an electrical problem that interfered with performance. Vehicle was recalled and repairs done, but symptoms returned. Manufacturer claimed no responsibility because consumer was not the original owner. Check engine light was on. The vehicle vibrated, smoked and was overheating. The left front tire blew out. Ignition coils cracked and were replaced. Vehicle had a blown head gasket. Front left turn signal clips broke. Oxygen sensor failed. Right front door lock fell off. Vehicle had several parts on recall before the consumer purchased it and the consumer believed those recalled parts were the source of the problem.

Nhtsa campaign 99v325000; kia issued an engine stalling recall. This vehicle was not included in the recall due to VIN. However, the engine stalled, and check engine light remained on.

4-wheel drive does not always engage, both front hubs were replaced and pass operation cable adjusted, dealer claims the problems is fixed, however consumer states there is no difference once vehicle is repaired. Check engine light illuminated. Power window inoperable, dealer replaced window motor.

Check engine light came on in April 2000. I have taken the vehicle in six times to get the repair complete. At this time the light is off. The last repair was made on oct. 9, 2000. The dealers keeps replacing the same part. I think that it is something wrong with the electrical system that causes a power surge that then damages the tps module.

Car continually stalls, check engine light continually comes off and on, when continually stalls at idle speed and highway speeds, engine experiences trouble continuously when it surges and jerks. It has been a real hazard to my health and almost put me in accidents many times while stalling in the middle of the street and intersections. Almost killed myself and my family several different times with this piece of garbage vehicle. It has had so many things wrong with it since the day I bought it that it is almost impossible to list all of them. Dealer claims there is no problem! even when it gets towed in due to the fact that it won't run! something needs to be done immediately before people are innocently killed due to the malfunctioning kia Sportage vehicles.

2008 kia Sportage had problems from day one. Consumer had problem with check engine light and vehicle would not start.

Brakes- excessive braking distance when brakes applied; engine coolant system- vehicle over headed caused vents on dashboard to pop; electrical system under hood- continuous "check engine light" expensive repair bills; engine- shakes like an earthquake, stalls while driving, scared will cause accident/death.

Vehicle shakes and there is a sudden decrease in speed. The vehicle had been to the dealer for repairs and the problems remained the same. While driving, the vehicle vibrated, then the check engine light came on, and the vehicle suddenly decreased speed from 45 mph down to 5 mph.

When the check engine light comes on the vehicle starts bucking. Has been to dealer 3 times in a month. Dealer claims the vehicle is fixed now.

The check engine light illuminates, indicating a malfunction within the system . Also vehicle completely shuts down. Dealer cannot identify the problem. Please give any further details.
