Transmission downshifted while driving on the freeway. While trying to maintain speed to exit the freeway, the engine started to overheat. As soon as I was able to pull into the local gas station parking spot, the engine died. The transmission appears to need a rebuild.

2002 Mazda 626 transmission broke on me at 107,000 odo .
Auto transmission has constant problems with leaking and shifting. Tons of complaints online of problems with these cars. Why cant something be done about this like a recall?.
2001 Mazda 626. Transmission shifting cable falls off shift lever on transmission. Once occurs, can not shift out of whatever position you are in at the time of the failure. Mazda sells a new cable kit with new/adequate cable to transmission connection device ($180). You can not just buy the connector. Mazda parts person said, "we sell a lot of these" indicating numerous failures for same cause. Being a mechanical engineer, I resolved the issue with a axle nut as used to hold wheels on a child's wagon, etc.

I purchased a 1999 Mazda 626 automatic 4 cylinder vehicle. After driving the car for approximately 10 minutes the vehicle starts to jerk and the tachometer gets very erratic as is the shifting. The vehicle now uses excessive gas and the jerking motion has continued. It is my understanding (after going online to check this problem) that Mazda is aware there is a problem with this transmission but won't issue a recall or provide any assistance for the problem.
My 2001 626 (4 cylinder) transmission needs to be replaced at under 81,000 miles!!!! the only warning sign was it wouldn't shift into reverse one day, then boom, it barely moved forward again. I have never had a problem with this car and I have mostly owned Mazda's so imagine my surprise and disappointment that it happened just after I lost my job. Now I have no job, no transportation and no means to get a job without it. Mazda apparently knew there were problems with the transmissions and chose to do nothing about it. I will never purchase or recommend a Mazda ever again! as a result of your blatant failure to inform your customers you have lost at least one good customer forever.
1998 Mazda 626 lx 4 cyl car was fine took it to have transmission service next day slipping starting out in 2nd gear shifting hard before service was done car drove like a dream.

1. Long highway drive (8-10h) during temp. Stormy conditions (1-2h) 2. Transmission defect, 3800$ repair bill + additional costs for rentals/motels 3. Replaced transmission.
Transmission already went out in my 2000 Mazda 626. After researching the problem online, I found out this is a very common problem in Mazda 4cyl engines from this time period. I think it is unacceptable that the transmissions life is this short.

The transmission on my 01 Mazda 626 is broken. It won't shift from third to fourth gear. I know this is a problem with almost every 626 that has a cd4e transmission. So the transmission is obviously defective.
My 2000 Mazda 626 began having problems a week after purchasing April 10, 2008! the car started having electrical problems which resulted in 3 batteries, 2 alternators, no ac or defrost could be run. Then the brakes were replaced twice within a 2 month period! all these problems resulted in me almost being killed from an automobile accident! this happened June 8, 2009 which was a Monday approx. 4 pm. The airbags never deployed, and my head hit the steering wheel. Windshield shattered all over my hand resulting in severe lacerations! this car needs looked at ASAP!!!! please help.
Transmission light keeps blinking once rpm reaches of 3.

I own a 2001 Mazda 626 4 cyl. My car's transmission usually runs in third gear on long trips and doesn't shift to the over drive. Also, there is a delay when shifting from second to third and from third to overdrive. It works fine shifting from first to second gear. This is a really annoying thing coming from this car. I already did a transmission flush to solve the issue but it worked fine for just a couple of days and it is just as it was at the beginning. I hope someone takes care of this because there is a lot of disappointed customers due to this common issue in this vehicle.
2001 626 Mazda 4 cy. Transmission is going out and due to the number of issues reported by consumers about transmission problems, costly repairs and even additional problems. When is Mazda going to be forced to do something about this issue? if they do not - this will be my last Mazda.
94,000 miles on my 2002 Mazda 626 and the transmission is shot and struts were worthless. Was stranded on the road when the car would go in reverse but was difficult to operate in drive and at slower speeds and stop signs/lights.
The tranny was slipping and the od light kept blinking on and off and the transmission stopped working due to faulty parts, with all the other complaints on this transmission they should either replace the part(s) or buy the vehicles back from the consumer!.
The contact owns a 2000 Mazda 626. While attempting to accelerate, the vehicle would not shift from first into second gear. The vehicle came to a sudden stop and has not been diagnosed by the dealer. The current and failure mileages were 104,000.
My 1999 Mazda 626 transmission has been acting up a lot. From what I have found with research Mazda used the Ford probe transmission in the production of the 626 up until 2002. The transmission that comes with the car is designed for a smaller, lighter vehicle and thus it is doomed to fail, no matter how many times you replace it. I cannot afford to pump $2,000 into a car that is going to have the same problem down the road. Plus even if I could afford it, I can't find the part in tampa, FL. Mazda should be forced to upgrade all 626 2. 0l i4 transmissions for free, as they made no attempt to correct the issue.
I own two 1998 Mazda 626s. The transmission went out in the first one. I bought a replacement and installed it. At the same time, I bought another Mazda 626 and my wife started driving it. Each transmission had about 100, 000 miles on it. We are small business owners on a budget with a big family and very mindful of preventable maintenance and driving with integrity. To make a long story short, I am sitting here this morning with three, yes three, useless transmissions and several thousands of dollars wasted thus far. Mazda needs to own up to this problem with your help!.
1999 Mazda 626 - replaced transmission 75-80 k miles. Now 110 k miles and beginning to observe same symptoms prior to last failure. Transmission design is defective.
Transmission seal leaking.
I noticed problems right away after I bought my car from my mom. She rarely drove it, and I drive approximately 500 miles a week. First the car wouldn't not go into drive, then it would not move at all. A friend of mine is a mechanic and found that the trans. Cable had come detached. After time consuming repair, the car was fine for a week. Now the car only goes into drive when I first put it into second. It slips in and out of overdrive. The transmission is obviously faulty.
Automatic transmission on a 1999 Mazda 626 has failed for a second time. Car's automatic transmission was replaced around 60,000 miles and now needs replacement again at 122,000 miles.
With only 115,000 miles on 2001 Mazda 626, the transmission needs replaced per professional assessment. Took it in after the overdrive function stopped working and the only way I was able to drive the car was by turning off the overdrive function.
I have a 2001 Mazda 626 with only a little over 100,000 miles and now the transmission went out. I had it looked at and was told that the chain inside the transmission was skipping links. The service man who looked at the car told me that he believes that there was a recall on this transmission because this problem was happening to alot of Mazda 626 transmissions. The car is just sitting now because we can not afford 2000 dollars to get this fixed but if its possible to be looked at I was told that we could get it replaced for free. We really need assistance with this because we have a 10 month old daughter and one running vehicle and really need help getting this problem fixed.
1999 Mazda 626 , 2. 0 l at stopped on highway. Got it towed with the help of auto club. Diagnosis says the car need transmission work. Now need to spend nearly $3500. 00 to get the car running. This is more than the car's value. I could find from the net that this model has extensive transmission problems. Still there is no action from the manufacturer's side to correct these problems.
1999 Mazda 626 automatic transmission went out. This is a constant issue for this model car.
I have a 1997 Mazda 626 2 l 4 cylinder with 137k miles on it. I have had nothing but problems with my transmission cd4e. It has shifted erratically since I bought it in oct. 2006 and now will not shift from 2nd to 3rd gear. It will have to be rebuilt or replaced. The cd4e transmission in this care has a vast record of problems dating back to 1994. Today's transmissions and vehicles should not have this type of problem and will probably force me to buy another car which I can not afford at this time, due to the cost of repairs to the transmission.
I have a 2001 Mazda 626 lx with automatic transmission. The car has worked great but at 125,000 miles the transmission went out. Many other people have had similar problems with this transmission and still no recall? I took the car to a reputable mechanics shop and was told that the transmission needs to be replaced and not to waste my money on it because it is known for failures. I took it to a shop that specializes in transmissions and was told the same story except they felt they could fix the situation with an aftermarket valve kit that solves the problem. Why are Mazda and Ford (the transmission was built by Ford) allowed to ignore this problem?.
I have Mazda 626 year 2002. It had around 53,000 miles on it. Very low mileage and well maintained. One day, while driving on the highway, there was sudden jerking motion and od light began to flash, after which the car slowed down and was moving at a very slow speed. (on the highway). As and when I stopped/slowed, the car had difficulty to gain speed. Some how, I got it home after which , it would not move forward. Neutral and reverse gears worked fine. Took it Mazda dealer in troy, and they said a bad transmission. First they said that they will get a new transmission and they were charging exorbitantly. Later they said that it would be rebuilt for the same amount of money. I took my cart to a transmission shop and got it repaired. I have read online that there are numerous numerous people who have had issues with transmission with Mazda 626. I called up Mazda company and complained about it. But my words fell on deaf ears something needs to be done, Mazda knows about this issue and has not addressed it.
The transmission on my 1999 Mazda 626 had failed for the third time now. The problem has been repetitive and requires continuous expensive repairs. After extensive research, I have found that the transmission on this specific car is common occurrence with very high failure rates. I want the manufactures to recall the transmissions of provide reimbursements for my past repair bills.
I have a 2002 Mazda 626 and on July 5,08 my car trans stopped working while I was going uphill. I had to swerve the car to keep it from rolling backward into another car.
We have owned a 4 cylinder 1997 Mazda that has had the transmission replaced twice.
