2 Transmission Failure problem of the 2000 Mazda 626

Failure Date: 08/03/2013

Driving in the highway but abruptly it slowed down and can't speed up while I was in the traffic, it was almost bumpped to stop, terrifying trucks were chasing behind me. This is a transmission failure. Terrible, and a big safety issue too.

3 Transmission Failure problem of the 2001 Mazda 626

Failure Date: 03/31/2011

The transmission in my 2001 Mazda 626 i4 has failed twice. The first time it failed at 118,000 miles while I was accelerating from a stop at a intersection almost causing an serious accident with the cars behind me. After having the transmission rebuilt for 2k the transmission failed again at 120,000 miles while accelerating from a stop at an intersection on a uphill slant and almost caused a major accident with the cars behind me as I backed the car down the hill to the curbside. Ford needs to recall these horrible cd4e transmissions. I have had the transmission rebuilt again and the certified transmission shop tells me Ford has redesigned the drum for these transmissions (the part that failed both times) and they only release them 1 at a time from the Ford factory to transmission shops to avoid a recall on the previous design which failed all of their cd4e transmissions prematurely. This is very poor customer service on fords part and they should stand behind their product and not hide from their failures while sticking it to their costumers. I will not buy another Ford product again.

6 Transmission Failure problem of the 2000 Mazda 626

Failure Date: 10/24/2009

I bought a 2000 Mazda 626 lx from a neighbor, and with only 95k on the odometer, the car began shifting rough. It didn't seem to cause much of a problem and I continued to provide general maintenance for the car. However, I almost never traveled outside of a 20 mile radius with the vehicle. Once I did travel about 40 miles away, the transmission broke down and refused to enter into drive, but only the lower gears. As I searched the internet for similar problems, it became readily apparent that a transmission failure was common for the Mazda 626 model. I am now faced with replacing the transmission at a cost of $2,000 plus.

7 Transmission Failure problem of the 1996 Mazda 626

8 Transmission Failure problem of the 1996 Mazda 626

Failure Date: 08/15/2009

The automatic transmission in my 1996 Mazda 626 failed. As I did research I found that the transmission had failed once before with a previous owner. Further research has shown me that the "cd4e" transmission in my car is a "known" defective part among owners of this particular car. I only had enough money to have it replaced with a used transmission that was the same "cd4e" and can only hope that this one will hold up for awhile. The total cost was about $1200 and I still have the old transmission just in case I need to have it rebuilt. This particular transmission is very hard to find due to its unreliability, meaning they are in great demand because they fail frequently. Thank you for your time.

9 Transmission Failure problem of the 2002 Mazda 626

Failure Date: 08/10/2009

2002 Mazda 626 transmission chain failure. Car has only 72k miles on it, needs entire re-built transmission costing over $1900. 00.

10 Transmission Failure problem of the 2000 Mazda 626

Failure Date: 07/27/2009

The transmission is failing on our Mazda 626 2000. According to the mechanic the rest of the car is in great condition besides the fact that we need a transmission overhall which will run us 4,000 - 5,000. A brief internet search by the mechanic and subsequently by myself indicated this is a common complaint of Mazda. We are extremely lucky this did not cause injury to my husband who was driving at the time of initial occurrence or the mechanic who test-drove it for diagnostics.

11 Transmission Failure problem of the 2002 Mazda 626

Failure Date: 06/06/2009

Transmission failure at 75,000 miles.

12 Transmission Failure problem of the 2001 Mazda 626

Failure Date: 04/06/2009

Transmission failure occurred the first time in early spring of 2003. My 626 had just turned over 53,000 miles when the transmission went. Called for a tow, transmission place said that it was likely to have to be a full rebuild. I called dealership, they called Mazda and Mazda paid for new transmission and tow, even though the car was out of warranty. This weekend, driving car, no sign of any issue, just had a fluid flush done on the car 6,000 miles ago so I know that is fine. Come home after a weekend of city driving and go to get in the car the next morning when the car will not shift. Stays in park no matter what gear I move shifter to. Taking it in again with only 45,000 miles on the ~new~ transmission that Mazda paid for the first time round. Car only had 98,000 miles on it and has suffered 2 different transmission failures.

13 Transmission Failure problem of the 1999 Mazda 626

Failure Date: 03/10/2009

This is the 3rd transmission failure of 1999 Mazda 626. Car only has 136k miles.

14 Transmission Failure problem of the 1997 Mazda 626

Failure Date: 02/11/2009

I have a 1997 Mazda 626 with a Ford cd4e transmission. I have read numerous stories of early transmission failure with this transmission. I am experiencing it myself. I have filed numerous complaints and the only thing I have accomplished it put wear and tear on my keyboard. I also have a 1998 Buick lesabre with a plastic intake manifold. It has 124,000 miles on it and the engine sounds like a diesel. This defect has been known to cause premature engine failure in numerous cases. What is going on? I would vote to fire all the Ford and general motor engineers. I am a disabled man stuck with two pieces of engineering stupidity. All I can do is every once in a while is to beat on this keyboard and feel like there is nothing I can do about this. Is there? the injury is to my trust as well as my wallet.

15 Transmission Failure problem of the 2001 Mazda 626

Failure Date: 02/01/2009

My 2001 Mazda 626 2. 0l lx has 104,500 miles on it. Around 95,000 the transmission started shifting roughly. The problem got worse over time and at 104,500 miles I now need a transmission rebuilt. Every mechanic I have taken it to and talked to knows the problems with this Ford cd4e built transmission and are shocked Ford/Mazda has not done a recall on them. I am now looking at 2000 dollars in repairs. Please forward this complaint to Mazda along with all of the others and make them do what is right. So many people have been affected by these horrible transmission failures. Please help us all.

16 Transmission Failure problem of the 1997 Mazda 626

Failure Date: 10/27/2008

The Mazda I own is a 1997 Mazda 625 with a cd-4e Ford automatic transmission. It has 96,000 miles on it and the transmission is failing. I have read where numerous people have replaced this transmission multiple times only to have it fail again and again. I have filed this complaint with several agencies and I have never been offered a solution or even a response. Numerous people are in the same boat and desperately looking for some recourse. I really wonder if anyone out there really cares that we are being forced to deal with a totally defective transmission which should have been recalled years ago. This is total highway robbery.

17 Transmission Failure problem of the 1996 Mazda 626

Failure Date: 10/16/2008

Transmission failed on 1996 Mazda 626. Replaced with used transmission that also failed within 3 months.

18 Transmission Failure problem of the 2000 Mazda 626

Failure Date: 07/23/2008

This is the second time that I have had to put my 2000 Mazda 626 into the shop due to transmission failure. I was experiencing hard shifting and jerking while placing the car in gearand accelerating. The first repair cost me 800 dollars the second transmission repair was 1200 and the mechanic told me that the transmission wasn't equivalent for the weight and size of my car. I'm experiencing problems once again and it's not even a year later I'm a sophomore in college and I can't afford these costly repairs.

19 Transmission Failure problem of the 1997 Mazda 626

Failure Date: 06/15/2008

Automatic transmission failure. Vehicle will not move in reverse gear.

20 Transmission Failure problem of the 1996 Mazda 626

Failure Date: 05/16/2008

I have a 96 Mazda 626 that is having constant problems with the transmission. I had it checked out and am being told that it was the catalytic converter that would cost well over $400 because I needed the Mazda branded one from a dealership. Also the transmission switch is faulty. Which the guy I had looking at the car, had no idea what that was and had never heard of it. When you start driving it's fine then about 15 minutes in to it starts jumping like as if I am pressing on the gas to go 50 from 15. It has done this on several occasions and every time I try to fix it something else comes up. I was told by another person that the transmission is failing and that Mazda 626's have a faulty transmission from years 95-00.

21 Transmission Failure problem of the 1999 Mazda 626

Failure Date: 05/15/2008

Total transmission failure. My 1999 Mazda 626 4 cyl. Vehicle was heading south on i10 in phoenix when suddenly my speedometer went to 0 and smoke started pouring out from under my hood. Upon arrival at the aamco repair shop, I was told that the transmission needed to either be rebuilt or I needed to buy a brand new one. . . This cost me 4000 dollars to fix.

22 Transmission Failure problem of the 2000 Mazda 626

Failure Date: 04/25/2008

I bought my 2000 Mazda 626, 2. 0l engine, automatic, in 2001, brand new. I have put ~100,000 miles on it, mostly highway. Then one day, with no warning, the transmission just failed on the highway.

23 Transmission Failure problem of the 2001 Mazda 626

Failure Date: 04/15/2008

My Mazda 626, year 2001 has a problem with the transmission. At first the car would not go into reverse, then the entire transmission failed. I spoke with a CO-worker that had the same problem with her Mazda 626. Is there a recall on the Mazda. Please help me with the repairs, I can't afford to get the vehicle fixed.

24 Transmission Failure problem of the 1998 Mazda 626

Failure Date: 04/01/2008

This is the second Mazda I have had since I ever started driving. I am 23 years old and have had my license for 4 years. My first car was a 92 Mazda mx-3, I loved the car I then started to have issues with the transmission, which pissed me off because I was very aware with the maintenance done on my car. As time passed me and the mx-3 had to part ways. I then got a 98 Mazda 626. I continued to support the Mazda movement only because I thought you had to know how to drive a car in order to own a Mazda. I'm about to have two years with this car, continuing to be aware of the maintenance and the transmission has failed. I am kind of upset. A month ago the censor in the brake pedal to switch gear had locked, when I got the part fixed the mechanic said everything was fine he made it a point to check the transmission fluid, only because I am pretty adamant about that particular fluid especially knowing the history. April 1, 2008 the car was struggling to reverse, it would jump if I would accelerate, other than that it wouldn't move. I was hesitant to believe that it was the transmission. I checked the fluid and it was super low. I bought about 4 bottles and the problem was still existent. I even started struggling to drive the car. My father thought maybe it was the cable that was loose, but no. I couldn't believe that this car hasn't complete its second year with me and its of no use. I brought it to the mechanic and he himself confirmed that it was a transmission failure. Once again the Mazda and I will soon have to part ways, which is sad I always believed that Mazdas were good vehicles. I am now discouraged about purchasing a Mazda in the future. I am not sure what this scenario will do but hopefully they get this problem fixed. I understand it's not a brand new car but if its well kept it is a bit agitating. I don't see myself being a loyal customer to Mazda, when Mazda has yet to be loyal to me.

25 Transmission Failure problem of the 1998 Mazda 626

Failure Date: 02/20/2008

Transmission failure. I know of a lot of people with 626's that has transmission problems, and the bad thing about it is Mazda knew about it. We are hoping to get Mazda to do something about it, it's pathetic. I was hoping I wouldn't have any problems out of mine, but I have. We need to have something done about this, I can't afford to replace this transmission, and Mazda knows about it. Why don't they do a recall? it could pose as a hazard. My car erratically changes gears, and rpms, it could just stop in the middle of the road and cause a serious wreck. Why wait until accidents happen, why not go ahead and do a recall????.

26 Transmission Failure problem of the 1997 Mazda 626

Failure Date: 02/17/2008

97 Mazda 626 2 liter engine, auto transmission failures. 1st transmission went out at 80,000, 2nd one went at 105,000, 3rd failure at 124,000.

27 Transmission Failure problem of the 2001 Mazda 626

Failure Date: 02/14/2008

3rd transmission failure. This one at 113k miles. Lucky this one covered by transmission shop warranty.

28 Transmission Failure problem of the 1998 Mazda 626

Failure Date: 02/07/2008

I have a 1998 Mazda 626 with 120,000 miles on it. I have had the original tranny rebuilt once then replaced with a new transmission and now it has been sitting for 6 months with another transmission failure. This time the transmission malfunctioning has cost me a very good job. This is insane and it is my understanding that this is a very common problem.

29 Transmission Failure problem of the 1998 Mazda 626

Failure Date: 01/03/2008

Transmission failure.

30 Transmission Failure problem of the 2001 Mazda 626

Failure Date: 12/10/2007

Transmission failure occurred at 80,000 miles. Rebuilder stated the plates were burned and installed standard soft parts kit with steel plates. Less than 2000 miles and 2 months later the transmission had a spontaneous failure. The failure occurred in the intersection of two 45mph streets in las vegas hazarding other drivers.

31 Transmission Failure problem of the 2001 Mazda 626

Failure Date: 12/01/2007

Called the local Mazda dealership, and talked to the repair center for a good few minutes. Told him about this website and how many complaints about the transmission there are, and he said that its not their fault. That they don't offer any discounts or anything for repairs like this. Also, have a problem with a misfire in my car. All after getting a new 1200 dealer only part. Do they care that they built a very horrible made car? no. I really think that they should be forced into atleast cutting the price down to half. Its just normal driving that is causing the transmission to fail, and the misfire. I haven't gotten it fixed for I spent 6grand to get the car, and now I have almost put in 6grand to keep it running. Really wished I had never gotten this car.

32 Transmission Failure problem of the 1998 Mazda 626

Failure Date: 11/17/2007

My Mazda 626 transmission fail 3 times in 18 months.

33 Transmission Failure problem of the 2000 Mazda 626

Failure Date: 11/09/2007

(1) hesitation in shifting. (2) transmission failure (3) rebuild with aamco.

34 Transmission Failure problem of the 2002 Mazda 626

Failure Date: 10/29/2007

Complete and utter transmission failure.

35 Transmission Failure problem of the 1999 Mazda 626

Failure Date: 10/01/2007

My Mazda transmission keeps on having problems. I avoid driving on free ways as I never feel safe to drive the car whose transmission may fail any time. I fixed it 1. 5 yrs before. Cost almost half of the car's worth. It failed again now. The estimate is again huge to fix it. It is failing even after rebuilding new transmission and changing the faulty parts. I believe that there is some thing wrong in design itself and have no confidence that fixing it will resolve the issue or make it safe for driving. I am avoiding driving it for safety reasons. I contacted Mazda explaining the problem. They advised that "recalls are mandated by the federal government, not by individual car manufacturers". I am writing this letter in a hope that the problem will be probed and my vehicle be recalled.
