- the contacts overdrive button was flashing on and off and the car was jerking. The contact took car to a transmission specialist, and was told that Mazda was notorious for car jerking, and that she would have to pay to have the transmission repaired. The contact says that there is a safety recall on her transmission and would like for the dealer to pay for the work.

Was driving nearly 70mph on the interstate when the car began attempting to shift into the next gear. It wouldn't shift and the vehicle began sputtering uncontrollably, and it nearly made me hit an 18-wheeler. The front end seemed like it jumped several times, and I was finally able to get it in control and pull over. Once on the side of the interstate, I placed it on park, and then back to drive, and continued my journey, only to have that happen again before I hit 60mph. That time, the car kept attempting to change gears even after letting go of the gas pedal, and again, "jumped" several times uncontrollably. I seriously thought I would get into an accident on the interstate, but I pulled over again and left it on park for several minutes. After that, I started back on drive to at least reach the next exit off the interstate, when I only reached about 35-40mph when it did it again. It is in the shop now and I havne't stopped hearing about how difficult it is to rebuild that specific transmission, and how frequently they have those Mazda 626 vehicles with transmission problems (and frightening stories), in their shop. I am just thankful that I wasn't killed driving that car on a very busy interstate. This issue needs to be addressed before someone is seriously injured, if they haven't already.

Mazda 626 lx 96' transmission trouble, the transmission consistantly has problems, it's dangerous, because it will go out, at the most inconvient time. It will jolt, or slow down, extremely fast, or slip, at a stop light, and it's scary, luckly there has been no problems, if it has happed on the highway, there's no doubt there could be an accident. I've heard consistant complaints for other owners of the same model, and make, and year. . Read more...

My car failed the last week of January 2005. It would stop going into gear. I had the spark plugs replaced, transmission fluid changed, but still no change. Finally it got so bad I stopped driving. I have yet found anyone who really wants to fix the car because they all say it is a piece of junk and not worth fixing.

I purchased a 1998 Mazda 626 8/14/01 approximately 29700 miles. Began experiencing a problem with overdrive approximately 9 months thereafter. No problem found. Recently the transmisson has been slipping approximately 86000 miles. On 1/6/05 the vehicle will go into drive but will not accelerate at all. Researched this info on the web, it seems several consumers have had the same problem. Recall needed. . Read more...

Consumer states that while driving at any speed and without warning the transmission will shift to neutral and it will be hard for the consumer to control the vehicle. Dealer replace twice. Mr.
I am complaining about my 1998 Mazda 626. This car has been trouble ever since day one. I have had to replace the timing belt, the drive axles twice, and put in 4 transmissions. I have had the car since 2002 and had to replace the transmission every year. I could hardy make my car payments for having to spend extra money to repair my car.
While driving, transmission froze up, a tooth off one of the gears broke and was causing the problem, Mazda sent replacement parts 3 times, first 2 were defective.
