I own a Mazda 2002 626 lx with an automatic transmission. It was purchased on December 12, 2004 and has only 43,700 miles on it. The routine maintenance on the car has always been performed as outlined in the car maintenance manual. On July 13, 2007 the transmission started to have problems. Some time when shifting from park to the reverse gear it will make a screeching noise and the gear will not engage. On July 14, 2007 I called two Mazda dealerships and was told that the transmission was out of warranty (time wise, not mileage wise) and there were no recalls related to the transmission. On July 16, 2007 I took it to an aamco shop. A day later I was told by aamco that the transmission had to be re-built. It cost me $2510 to get the transmission re-build. This was a huge unexpected expense because transmission completely failed at such a low mileage due to some inherent defect.

I bought Mazda 626 lx 1998 and two months after transmission failed. Car started making clinging noise, slow performance and abrupt shifts, slow start ups. Took it to aamoco and they diagnosed failing transmission and charged me $2200,didn't have money so end up getting loan to pay of,plus interest. Just paid of loan and my rebuilt transmission (original one but fixed it by aamoco) is failing again, abrupt shifts, very slow starts and I actually got ticket from police. Found place to get car repaired second time for $1500. So far in 3 1/2 years transmission failed 2 and around $4300 in repairs costs and loans. Luckily I did not drive car on highway while it have transmission problems, otherwise would be in danger of accident. Car takes slow shift, around 30-40 mph makes moves like it will stall,it takes from 0-60 minutes not seconds. . . Very dangerous to operate on highway during failure.

The transmission began down shifting very harshly. Within a few days I began hearing a popping noise and couldn't accelerate in the lower gears (below 35 mph) without hearing the noise. This became a dangerous situation when I was entering a major state highway from a stop and was almost hit by a semi- truck because the car wouldn't accelerate.

Automatic transmission shifting problem, irregular rpm's when idling, popping noise in front (suspension?) when driving over bumps at high rates of speed I. E. Highways, interior light faulty,.
One of the park light stopped working before 1 year of purchase. Airconditioner compressor makes a very distinct "click" noise inside the car. This noise is too high compared to other cars. Mazda mechanic says its normal. The worst problem I faced was the transmission problem. Its erratic, doesn't cross 2nd gear, and makes a scary jerk at lower speeds when the gear shifts from 2nd to 1st gear upon removing leg from gas peddal. Had to tow the car twice to dealer. Its disgusiting transmission. Appriciate if somebody could tell me alternatives to get the problem fixed and suggest next action at bskp@hotmail. Com I have a new car, but can't go on ling drives as it is unreliablefrustrating.

2001 Mazda 626 lx transmission. Transmission problems: shift hunting, lurching, inability to select gears, vibration, noise, harsh starts, slow starts, chugging, slipping. Second transmission in vehicle (dealer/warranty rebuilt transmission installed by dealer).
I am complaining about the transmission. I have had 3 transmissions to my car since I bought it. I am needing a 4th transmission. Shifts hard on downshifts to upshifts usually at 2nd gear. Makes a humming noise to the transmission. The dealer put 2 trans. In and the same is occurring again. Brakes are also messed up- squicks horrible even when I just put new ones, struts are all out, have had in my first yr of purchased, three transmissions, 1 air conditioner replaced, 1 roof liner was to short replaced, 1 recall, reverse sometimes works- you have to regear it to make sure it is on reverse-cause you don't want to go forward when you want to backwards, I have to at times put the gear in neutral to start my car- because it won't start on park at times. I am a very dissatissifed customer who will not buy another Mazda car again. My car needs another transmission to it. I have proof of all work done to this lemon from the dealers.
Consumer stated intermittently the engine roars and vehicle will lurch backward when in reverse. . Consumr also stated it happens when vehicle is in drive, the engine will roar and the tires start to spin, also the drivers seat belt is not retracting properly, the gear shift is making noises and it is difficult to go from drive to park etc.
Consumer purchased vehicle two weeks ago, and noticed that when shifting from drive to reverse there was a loud thumping noise.
I purchased this vehicle, new, on April 8, 1999. Immediately I noticed problems, the car made an odd noise and vibration at rest, this was repaired, a missing bolt from the heat shield . The cd player stopped working within 10 days of purchase, replaced. Warped wind deflecter replaced, and blown interior light fuses. The major problem of course is the transmission. Car was taken to dealer on April 19, 1999 reported concerns with the transmission, shifting roughly, lurching and slipping at various speeds. Technician test drove car, said there was no problem, did not do electronic analysis of transmission. I indicated my concern regarding the transmission to Mazda corp. In the Mazda care survey as well. On Dec. 15, I went to dealership and demanded that a tech. Ride with me as I expressed concerns. Car had almost cut off while driving 3 days before. I had to rent a car to go to florida because I was afraid to put car on the road. Car was left with dealer, and finally found to have transmission problem. They want to replace transmission, and then offer me a 12,000 mile warranty on the replaced transmission, when I currently have 35,000 miles remaining an my bumper to bumper warranty. This is inequitable, and unacceptable. This car was sold to me with a faulty transmission, and I want a replacement vehicle (new) or my money.
626 taken to Mazda to have transmission checked for rough shifting and clunking noise. Mazda said the transmission was defective and needed to be replaced. Once replaced, new transmission acted in the same manner. Mazda then decided to replace all 4 motor mounts. That did not correct the problem either. The service department then told me that rough shifting and clunking sounds are normal for the 98'626. I found that explaination very hard to believe to say the least, so I am meeting with the regional sales rep for Mazda in an effort to have the problem rectified.
Transmission initially shifted roughly then revved during shifting 3-4, then a loud bang during braking quickly, this progressed to lurching forward after braking, then popping noises in low gear when accelerating from stop or at speeds less than 40 mph. An independent transmission repair shop said that chain inside trans is slipping off sprockets - repair estimated at $950-1150. Have appointment with dealership to get an estimate on transmission work. The engine check comes on and stays on for weeks at a time. This initially started at about 1000 miles and has continued to occur. Dealership has made repairs and adjustments under new vehicle warranty, and according to recall advisements and each time says that should fix it, but it continues even today. The vehicle is now out of warranty.
