38 Transmission Gear Slipping problem of the 1997 Mazda 626

Failure Date: 03/09/2004

1997 Mazda 626 lx 2. 0 automatic transmission is slipping. The car hesitates excelerating at different speeds, mostly around 40 to 60 mph. I am now at 82500 miles and have found numerous posts on the internet about transmission issues. Along with this my check engine light has been on for the last 3 yrs with not one Mazda dealership or mechanic being able to keep it off for longer than 30 miles. I have replaced timing belt tensioners, mass air flows, O2 sensors, fuel filters pcv valve, and numerous more. I guess the problems never end and I am tired of it being "my" problems and not Mazda's!.

41 Transmission Gear Slipping problem of the 2001 Mazda 626

Failure Date: 10/15/2003

I purchased a brand new Mazda 626 lx 2001 model on August 19, 2001 at magnussen's Ford/Nissan/Mazda dealership in newark CA. Little did I know, I bought a lemon!!!!! I returned the vehicle numerous times and telling the service dept people that the transmission was slipping and overrunning in gear. At one point, I had a friend of mine drive the vehicle to the dealership and meet with the service dept people. This was the week before christmas 2001. Rudy diephus could not believe that I was getting a song and dance from the magnussen service dept. Rudy built and drove race cars for over thirty years, and knew I had a transmission problem. The service manager bob (who is no longer there) said that the car had to be broken in, not enough miles on the car. Bob also said that all Mazda 626's drive like this (transmission slipping/overrunning in gear). In addition, I was told to keep a journal of every time this happened. That would be a problem, writing and driving at the same time. Again, returned the vehicle back to magnussen's and met with a different svc manager. Here it is April 2002, and I was told that the transmission tech was going to run a special test on the car (line pressure check at idle and stall speeds). Sure enough, I was right! the test indicated that there was a definite problem with the transmission. After driving the vehicle out of the dealerships lot, the car was (and is) running worse than ever. The second transmission is worse than the first. I return the car and the car stays there for another week. I picked up the car on April 26, 2002, (running worse) and drove to vacaville about 100 miles one way from where I was living. I felt something funny under the hood and drove into vacaville and found a Mazda dealership. I explained the problem of the transmission and engine. They stated that there was a problem with the mounts and the car needed new mounts.

43 Transmission Gear Slipping problem of the 1998 Mazda 626

Failure Date: 06/15/2003

Since I purchased my car used from corporate motors in sacramento, calif. I always thought the transmission was slipping at 18k, this was my first one so I just figured that's how automatics drove, wrong? air conditioning went out around 30k. I've spent well over $2500 repairing the vehicle transmission wise, and now the pump is going out. I have been told the pump just can't be replaced, I will have to get another transmission, either rebuilt or a new one. I am letting it get to the point that it will drive in a dealership and never come home with me again.

44 Transmission Gear Slipping problem of the 1997 Mazda 626

Failure Date: 04/28/2003

I would like to e-mail your company an express my displeasure in my 1997 Mazda 626. My car has had transmission problems since 48,000 miles and my warranty would not cover this saying that they could not fix a problem they don't see. {the transmission fluid boiled over and out a breather tube. } well that being said I now have 62,000 miles and the transmission is slipping more than ever. Now it seems to me with all the customer complaints on this transmission you should recall and or replace the transmissions free of charge as iã‚ve never done any thing to ruin this transmission. And 2500. 00 dollars is a big chuck of change that should not have happened in the first place. Thank you, brad lorenz.

45 Transmission Gear Slipping problem of the 1999 Mazda 626

Failure Date: 01/14/2003

In June 1999, I purchased a 1999 Mazda 626. I have 27,743 miles on it. (I ride mostly in my husband's SUV). Two days ago, the transmission began to slip. The dealer tells me the 36 month warranty has expired. I say warranty or not at 27,000 miles the transmission should not be slipping--unless there was a problem with it when it was installed. I refuse to pay $2000+ for a new transmission and am seeking arbitration against the dealer. I am astonished to see all of the other complaints about the 626 transmssion I read on "the complaint station" website. From what I read on this site, the problem is the Ford transmission. Something must be done concering this problem. A recall is in order. Thank you.

47 Transmission Gear Slipping problem of the 1996 Mazda 626

Failure Date: 10/29/2002

Transmission is slipping badly in lower gears. Shifting from 1st to 2nd to 3rd is very bad and often the rpms are approx. 5000 before the shift occurs. (even on a downhill slope) as of early November, the transmission will periodically not go into reverse. I have changed the transmission fluid on the recommended schedule of every 5k miles. Dt.

49 Transmission Gear Slipping problem of the 1997 Mazda 626

Failure Date: 10/12/2001

The vehicle stalled after a scheduled oil change. After returning to the service center where the oil change was performed, I was told that I need to have my valve cover gaskets changed. I wanted a second opinion and scheduled a check with the dealership service center. I had no problems with stalling after the first initial incident. After the dealership mechanics looked at the vehicle the car would not move unless the engine was reved. I was informed at this point that my transmission was slipping and that I needed my valve cover gaskets and spark plugs changed. The total cost would amount to over $3200. After getting a second opinion on the state of the transmission I had the transmission replaced. I was informed by the dealership mechanic that the 1997 Mazda has transmission problems. I had the transmission replaced by the dealership service department. The new transmission is extremely loud, the car does not drive the smoothly; I can feel the gears change, and the odometer is running rampant. I went back to the dealership and was told that Mazda transimission are generally loud and that the car will rev and cause one to feel a shift in gear if the computer cannot distinguish a speed setting. I feel that after reseach and speaking with the dealerships mechanics that Mazda was aware that the madza 626 v6 1997 year was defective and should not continue to make revenue for a costly "repair" that should have been fixed by the manufacture. When my vehicle stalled it was in heavy traffic (45mph zone) and it is a blessing that I did not cause a wreck or hit anyone. Thank you t. Simpson.

52 Transmission Gear Slipping problem of the 1999 Mazda 626

Failure Date: 02/12/2000

I purchased the vehicle new on Dec. 19, 1999. I noticed a problem with the transmission starting slipping in reverse. On Feb. 8, 2000 I have taken the car back to the dealer for repair. The told me that the transmission had to be ordered and bring the vehicle back on Feb 12, 2000. I picked up the car on Feb 12, 2000 and had to take the vehicle back because of a loud humming noise. Again its in the transmission. This time they tell that the front pump went out on the transmission. Feb 13, 2000 another transmission had to be ordered. When they first put the transmission in it was a remanufactured transmission. In the warranty agreement it states, "any repair or replacement of a covered component may be made with a functionally equivalent component, as determined by the administator. In the warranty booklet it states, "a Mazda dealer will make necessary repairs, using a new or remanufacutred parts, to correct any problem covered by this warranty without charge to you. I do not want a remanufactured part on the vehicle. I bought the vehicle new, I expect a new part on the vehicle obiviously the remanufactured transmission did not work.
