1 Transmission Solenoid problem of the 1998 Mazda 626

Failure Date: 12/01/2008

Transmission problems with the year of 98's transmissions made by Ford. Transmissions have had multiple issues starting from shifting issues, transmission fluid overheating requiring more and more Mazda 626's to have aftermarket transmission coolers installed, transmission overheating. This year that Ford made this transmission has caused many people to often replace transmissions for this vehicle. You will see many people have replaced their transmissions 2 or 3 times within putting 150k on the vehicle. Please look into as I have had my transmission slip and completely not work, to getting rebuilt and now my o/d is now flashing, which requires me to install an aftermarket oil cooler for my transmissions, which does not come with the vehicle already. Transmission rebuild is costing over 2,000 dollars due to the unavailability of parts from the dealer and aftermarket suppliers. Please recall this transmission!!!!!! a Mazda technical service bulletin exists for some 1998-2001 models. TSB 05-005/02 deals with one specific circumstance: "after extended highway driving, the o/d off light is blinking and code p1783 is set (excessive atf temperature). Occasionally there will be overflow through the dipstick tube and harsh shifting. Mazda's recommended fix is to replace the radiator and to install an auxiliary cooler for the transmission. " when the light goes on, it enters a fail-safe mode? (the epc solenoid opens up and brings line pressure up to 'max') . . . The only catch is it raises the fluid pressure well beyond normal specs (it goes from 100 to 400 psi). . Read more...

2 Transmission Solenoid problem of the 1996 Mazda 626

Failure Date: 03/04/2008

On my 1996 my Mazda 626 I was driving on the highway and my overdrive light started flashing. I researched the problem online and there was thousands of the same complaint I think is was a over drive solenoid or a sensor that control gear shifting. Apparently this happens to alot of Mazda 626's and I think Mazda need to be held accountable for this problem.

3 Transmission Solenoid problem of the 1996 Mazda 626

Failure Date: 11/04/2004

Purchased the vehicle (1996 Mazda 626) at 27,000mi on odometer - transmission had gone bad. Because it was still in warrantee, the Mazda dealership replaced the transmission. I took it back a few times over the past few years because of leaking transmission fluid and engine light being on. Nothing was found or done. Last December, at 96,000mi, the transmission burned out again. I took it to the dealership who said the transmission would have to be replaced again. This would be the 3rd transmission in under 100,000 miles!! as Mazda would not assist in the cost of replacement, in July I had the car towed to a local mechanic who replaced the transmission with a rebuilt one. A few weeks ago (October 2004) the o/d light started blinking and I took it back to the mechanic who replaced the transmission. He searched deeper and found that the cupholder is placed directly over the car's computer, and had been leaking any spilled fluid onto it, shorting out the overdrive, causing the transmission solonoid to burn out. He cleaned the computer and replaced the tcc solenoid, Mazda takes no responsibility even though their technicians had the car several times without properly diagnosing the problem.

4 Transmission Solenoid problem of the 1996 Mazda 626

Failure Date: 08/11/2004

While shifting vehicle failed to move on its own. A loud knocking noise was heard coming from the front. Consumer had the vehicle towed to the dealer for inspection, and mechanic determined that the shaft solenoid needed to be replaced.

5 Transmission Solenoid problem of the 1997 Mazda 626

The over drive light flashed. Which resulted in the vehicle not switching gears. The dealership stated it was caused by the tcc solenoid.
