1 Vehicle Shudder problem of the 2000 Mazda 626

Failure Date: 12/14/2007

My car started to shake and have a burning smell and when I took the car in they said that wires were misplaced by another Mazda dealership I took it to about 8 months before. I then called back about a moth later and told them that my car jerks when it shifts gears. At that time they said that I just have slippage and may just need to add some transmission fluid . I did that and it seemed to help until last week when I was driving and stopped at a stop light and when it was time to go my car would not move. The rpm meter went into the red but my mph remained at 0. I had it towed to the dealership then they told me my transmission was gone and that it would be 3700 to repair. More than what the car is actually worth in good condition.

2 Vehicle Shudder problem of the 1997 Mazda 626

Failure Date: 01/23/2006

I noticed my car shaking at idle and when I put it in park. I also noticed a puddle under my car so I took it to get looked at right away. On the way to the service station it would not shift. All symptoms I have heard on this site, but no dealer ever told me of any problem. Now the car is not worth the price of a new transmission and I am without a vehicle. Would have been nice to know that there was a problem with it.

Consumer was able to pull over, and had the vehicle towed to the dealer for inspection. Mechanic determined that transmission needed to be replaced due to worn out parts.

4 Vehicle Shudder problem of the 1999 Mazda 626

Failure Date: 07/10/2003

I bought my 1999 Mazda 626lx used in June of 1999 with 39,000 miles on it and throughout the two years that I had it I've gotten serviced more times than I can even count. Over the past 8 months the problems with the car have been getting worse. Initally the car was shutting off occasionally whenever I came to a stop. That alone scared me and I feared driving on the interstate because of this. The mechanic told me that my spark plugs needed to be replaced so I did that but the same day that I got it fixed the same thing happened and car started driving very rough. Although the car has not shut off on me lately it has done some very weird things like driving while the car is in reverse. I parked the car one day in an awkward way so I wanted to correct myself and when I tried to reverse the car kept on driving forward (I'm lucky there wasn't another car in front of me) and it was hard to shift into park when I was finally able to do that I turned to car off but then couldn't get it to come back on so I had it towed to the dealership and they said it was a problem with the shift interlock gear. Since I 've gotten my car back it drives worse than ever before the transmission slips, I can only drive in overdrive, the car shakes when it shifts gears and at certain speeds it thrusts forward with so much force that I it feels like I've just been rear-ended. Fortunately, I haven't had to replace the transmission but after reading other reviews about this car I fear that the time maybe coming soon especially since I just reached 83,000+ miles. With all the complaints on this problem Mazda should really take action on this issue because these cars are unsafe to drive and personally I will never buy another Mazda again.

7 Vehicle Shudder problem of the 1997 Mazda 626

Failure Date: 01/07/2000

When the gear shift is in drive, and the brake is pressed, the car shakes violently and so much that it actually creates a humming noise. The vibration is so intense that it cause ears to clog up. Took car to browns mazad dealership, because still under warranty. Was told it was the motor mounts. They had my car for a total of two weeks, waiting on a "part" which happend to be a bolt and when I pick up the car, it was in worse condition than when I brough it in. I was told that the some vibration is normal, but I am literally shaking when the car idles in the drive gear. Nasty attitude. I am still covered under warranty and I asked to have the mounts replaced, but was told it was within 'specs' therefore, live with it. This could become a potential safety hazard, because I have to put the car in neutral gear to stop the shaking.
