Strong fuel smell in the cabin when I start the car in the morning. I'm seeing this as a common issue in threads online. Car out of warranty so need help making this a recall item given the danger of fuel leaks. Solutions posted are below: 1) quote from my invoice: confirmed fuel leak was coming from line to high pressure pump. Removed lower panel of transmission to gain access to lines. Removed high pressure fuel pump covers, removed and installed fuel lines, and installed in reverse order to correct. Ran engine to verify no large fuel leaks. Found good at this time. 2) have your dealer replace the two flexible fuel lines from the fuel feed line to the high pressure fuel pump. There is no official bulletin on this but this is the fix.

My vehicle is emitting a very strong fuel smell and possible leak coming from the fuel pump. This is located under the rear seat, which had a recall. I believe that the item is faulty and should replaced once again. I reached out to the dealership and to mb corp; but they do not want to take responsibility for their faulty design and product. The vehicle is not safe to drive with the strong vapors, which are dangerous to health. Also, I am forced to leave the vehicle outside of the garage because of my fear that this will cause a fire or explosion, resulting in massive house destruction and possible death.

I have a 2008 mercedes E350 pzev model and the issue I came across is a major one. These models in particular have a big reputation on failing fuel pumps, and to make things worse on the pzev versions it can not be fixed unless the whole fuel tanked is swapped with a new one. The fuel pump is located inside the gas tank and its sealed just so there's no way of fixing the issue, on the other hand the non-pzev models have a replaceable pump which reduces the work and money to fix the issue. Mercedes has an applied extended factory warranty for the model w211 which covers this issue until 15years / unlimited miles for non-pzev models and 15years / 150k miles for pzev models. I see this very wrong because the pzev models are super expensive to fix and many people are over the 150k mile mark. This term should have been applied to the pzev models. I purchased this vehicle for $3,200 but to fix this problem it is over than $3,500. I am requesting mercedes to help me on this situation as these cars are well know to fail in that department. As it stands this car is unsafe to drive, it releases lots of raw gas smell and sometimes it will not start. I want mercedes to take full responsibility of this matter because this issue could have been a couple hundred dollar fix if the design after tank wasn't so bad. There are thousands of people complaining about the same issue with the pzev models and most of them are over the 150k mile limit which is not enough considering the age of the vehicles.

Fuel pump housing (under rear seat, drivers side) cracked and leaking fuel. Car fills with strong fuel vapors with raw fuel collecting on top of fuel pump housing. This was noticed while driving, pulled rear seat cusion to discover raw fuel inside car.
Fuel pump and sending unit is cracked causing fuel vapor to enter cabin. Also driver seat heater is over heating causing considerable discomfort and cannot be used. When I started to research these issues I found numerous other complaints for the same problems had been previously reported but I have not received a recall notice.
I can smell gas fumes and my fuel pump failed in my 2007 mercedes E350. While mercedes extended the warranty on the fuel tank / pumps for the e series, non-pzev, I have been advised that my car has pzev emissions and I am not covered. The non-pzev cars received a 15 year extended warranty with unlimited mileage. The pzev cars have mileage capped at 150k. The resolution mercedes provided to the NHTSA was misleading since they did not provide a resolution for all of the cars with fuel tank / pump issues.

This is about 5 years I am smelling gas fuel inside the car. But on 05/24/2019 driving on the street ,suddenly car stopped middle of street, after towing the car to mechanic shop ,we find out fuel pump problem and unable to change the pump we need to buy fuel tank and fuel pump, which is very expensive. This should be on recall. Because too many people complaing (according to your site). . Car is 115000 mile. Warranty are 150000 or 15 years. . . Just imagine if I was driving on freeway with my wife. . . Thanks in advance.

Car was being driven on a busy city street, stopped for red light, when I went to accelerate I had to pump the pedal-to be safe I decided to turn onto street at intersection where I was stopped at light, car came to a dead stop in middle of street. This was very close to the freeway on ramp that I was going to. Another 1/2 mile and had I not decided to turn off on to the side street the car would have stopped in the middle of a freeway with probable fatalities. Car had to be towed to repair shop. Fuel pump is inside gas tank in this model. Repair was $3373. 88. Mercedes benz dealer has parts in stock for a 2008 model. This is in itself is unusual and seems like they are expecting multiple fails. There are also multiple reports of same doing an online search. Should be recalled in my opinion. I have the repair receipt and all my previous records for maintenance on the car.
Vehicle stalls while driving, able to pull over to side of highway. Engine will not restarted. Towed vehicle to mercedes dealer, diagnosis discover that fuel pump failed. Fuel pump need replacement. This is a very unsafe condition, vehicle can stall at any time and cause serious accident/crash. Find information NHTSA investigation ea 13-003 about fuel tank/fuel system that related to this condition since fuel pump is part of fuel tank as told by repair dealer, but dealer and mercedes manufacture customer service refuse/decline to perform this repair under this investigation agreement. Can we have some assistance on this matter.
Fuel pump leaking fumes (and fuel?). While parked and preparing to come home the fuel pump failed and the car refused to start. It will not be repaired unless it is under the extended warranty. I am trying to learn if it will be covered under a extended warranty.

The car would not start fuel pump faulty and is part of gas tank bad design cost me close to $3800, some paid by mbz. Mbz replaced 2009 gas tanks for free under warranty but would not do mine. This is a bad design they should have told me about it so I would not buy the car. It is stupid to have to replace gas tank in order to replace a fuel pump in 2012 I had gas leakage from the same area and I paid to fix it they should have told me this would be a problem. Instead they kept silent when I take my car for service they always list of things to do so I can spend more money at the dealership why the [xxx] no body bothered to tell me about this problem that it would cost me a lot of money to fix . This car has cost over $60,000 to buy and I did not pay that kind of money for a car to last me only 12 years. Mbzs are supposed to last 30 years or more so ifeel cheated big time I think they are hiding this because they will get sued big time and I hope they do both the dealership and the mbz company. The dealership is mercedes banz of valencia in valencia, CA 91355. Phone number 661-753-5555. I have the necessary paperwork. I would like to be reimbursed fro all the cost, the 3 weeks without a car and fro the pain and suffering they have caused me and so it will be a lesson to mbz and their dealers not to pratice this fraud. The car would not start as the fuel pump was faulty and is part of the tank design. Mbz knew of the problem because they repaired or replaced some of the cars but I was never notified till the problem. It cost me under $3,800 to repair and replace the gas tank even though they repaired a lot of cars. My repair was finished on 05/14/18. I paid $3,409. 33 for the repair and I want to be reimbursed for it. I filed a complaint back in 05/31/2018 under the complaint number [xxx]. I need help to get my money back. Fuel odor & fail ed fuel pump issue. We took it goodyear dealer. & they diagnosed the bad fuel pump & referred to TSB bulletin # 9-47-10-63 for extended warranty by Mercedes Benz USA. We called to confirm it & towed it to clear lake mercedes dealer. . They denied the warranty & said it is win specific. This issue should a recall not a win specific issue. Our goodyear shop tech. Is rec. To write you in this matter. Fuel odor & fail pump is a big issue on these e 350 models. Please look into this issue.
Leak from the gas tank under back seat. Smell of gas inside the car. Fuel pump doesn't work.
After refueling my mercedes w211 I getting fuel leak fro the fuel pump. I found a info that nhsa closed case 2014 because mercedes extended warranty for 25 years regardless on mileage. They are telling that is not for my car. But I have issue like all those cars: plastic pump cover is cracked and fuel is leaking from the top of pump and running outside. Looks like total scam from mercedes side. They telling that my tannk is different and not covered by that extended warranty, but leak is from the pump and there is tons complains about same issue from thpse tanks too. For me looks that they extended warranty on cheaper repair tanks and not fixing expensive ones with same issues. Please, please help me because they wanna charge me 4200$ for this repair and not fixing under extended warranty.
The contact owns a 2007 mercedes-benz E350. The contact smelled a fuel odor while driving the vehicle. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic, but a failure was not found. Recently, the contact was unable to start the vehicle and had it towed to the same independent mechanic. The mechanic diagnosed that the fuel pump was defective and the entire fuel tank would need to be replaced in order to repair the failure. The manufacturer was notified of the failure and stated that the vehicle was not under warranty. The vehicle had not been repaired. The dealer was not contacted. The failure mileage was 130,000.
We recently filled the gas tank with fuel and noticed a strong fuel odor as if someone spilled gas on the floor in the garage. I proceeded to investigate where the smell was coming from around the car and noticed that it was strongest on the passenger rear of the vehicle. I checked on line and noticed similar issues with the fuel tank on other mercedes models. I proceeded to remove the rear seat and access cover to the fuel tank "sending unit or fuel pump" I'm not sure of the correct terminology, and sure enough there was a puddle of gas on top of the fuel tank apparatus. I proceeded to carefully soak up the gas with a rag and when I did I could see gas slowly seeping out of the cracks on the unit. I will be taking the vehicle to the mercedes dealer tomorrow. I noticed the recall did not cover my vehicle as it was built in July of 2010 which is a few months before the 2011 e -class extended recall. I hope the dealer will work with me as I consider this a serious issue that should be resolved professionally and promptly.

My Mercedes Benz E350 2006 failed to start intermittently due to fuel pump failure. My car was hit by an uninsured motorist, since then, my car became unreliable to start, my car falls into a metal type of fuel tank. There was a recall #08v303000 which states that in the event of vehicle crash, the electrical fuel pump may fail to deliver the needed fuel to start the engine, but my VIN is not on the list, however, during investigation ea 13-003 for fuel system, warranty has been extended to 15 years, warranty has been extended to 15 years with unlimited miles for the fuel pump on the subject vehicle. Penske refuse to honor the replacement of my fuel tank because according to the asst. Service manager, the warranty only affect on the plastic type of fuel tank. Is this really true? my car has 161,927 miles and he said the metal type fuel tank can only be replaced 150,00 or below. By the way, in order replace the fuel pump, the whole fuel tank should be replaced because Mercedes Benz systematically integrated and redesigned the whole fuel propulsion to avoid the nagging problem of avoiding the nagging problem of fuel leak from fuel pump. Please, I need your advice on this matter whether if the metal type of fuel tank of 2006 Mercedes Benz E350 is not included in 15 years warranty with unlimited mileage.
Leaking fuel pump, emitting gas odors in back seat for several years. Could not fill up gas tank or the smell is too much. Not safe to travel with friends in the car. Eventually the fuel pump stopped working and we were forced to repair it by purchasing an entire new gas tank including two fuel pumps which are enclosed in the system. Other mercedes like ours have had their gas tanks replaced or under warranty by mercedes, but they do not include our VIN number (?) it is exactly the same problem as the other cars. They refuse to compensate us for this unsafe problem that mercedes has refused to adequately take care of for the safety of their customers. We went to mercedes in temecula California a couple times during last year and this year asking them to take care of it. They refused. We didn't want the car and it's problems anymore so sold it after we paid more than $3,000 to fix their problem. We were recently informed that mercedes was offering compensation, so we had our mechanic submit all the documents for the mercedes factory original part that we had to replace, but again they refused to compensate us. They don't seem to be avoiding to take care of their unsafe problems with these models.
As the CO-owner/buyer of a 2007 mercedes-benz E350, I am very displeased with this first car purchase from the dealership in pleasanton. Honestly, the look/make of the car can be very deceiving. In fact, it only took one day to realize the car smelled of gas inside the vehicle. Also, after taking the backseat off, gas was leaking from the fuel pump located under the seat so my dad and I decided to take the vehicle to the dealership in oakland to see if there were any recalls under the car's VIN or if there was anything they could do about it that didn't have to cost us, but sadly no. The thing that makes this situation even more worse was that not once did both dealerships mention anything about the warranty for a fuel tank replacement that this particular model came with and the main complaint in order to have this fuel tank replacement is a smell of gas in the cabin, which I and my dad have mentioned about the smell of gas inside the vehicle to both these dealerships that supposedly they couldn't do nothing about unless we paid them more than half the price we paid for the car just to get it fixed. The saddest part of this situation is that we didn't find out about the warranty until the car died and couldn't crank or start so I had to do some research on google and found out about the extended warranty and took it to the dealership in oakland, but the car was no longer covered under the warranty due to the vehicle being a pvez. We had no idea the car was a pvez until that particular day so the car was definitely not covered under the 15 year/unlimited mile warranty as I had hoped considering the mere fact that the car had to die at over 150,000 miles even though we had known about the problem when the car was at 139,071 miles when we first bought it, but we were just completely clueless about the warranty.
Heavy fuel smell inside car when parked or when driving, even more so if inside my garage. Went on line, saw that mercedes told NHTSA that it will extend warranty to 15 years unlimited mileage, and that they will cover fuel pump, fuel tank, and all related gaskets. Smell is even worse when tank is full! I removed rear seat and found gas seapage on top of fuel pump, and rear seat was wet underneath with gas. Will mercedes cover this?? will they give me a hard time I have loved the car but this is kind of scary as I take my granddaughter to school every day and drive it to work. There are wiring going to fuel pump and im afraid that it might create a spark. Please help, mike bordonaro, my email genuinechv@hotmail. Com.
Due to investigation ea 13-003 for fuel system, warranty has been extended to 15 years with unlimited miles for the fuel pump on this vehicle. This was presumably done to avoid a recall. South bay Mercedes Benz is refusing to honor this warranty though all criteria have been met.

Fuel pump leak.
I contactedthe dealership regarding my fuel pump issue. The dealership informed me that it was not one of the covered VIN's with the fuel pump issues. It has strong smell of gas when filling up and does not run smooth . It has not started once when turned on. I was informed by my mechanic of the warranty on the defective fuel pump/filter. Why wasn't my VIN included in the extended warranty? were their changes made to the parts? how was my car excluded from the warranty process?.
