I noticed that another owner of a 2006 E350 noted that he/she had a fuel leak. I have had one, too. The extended warrantee ran out in 2020, so mercedes wouldn't cover the repair expenses. But if they knew for 15 years that this was a problem, they should have recalled the cars. And if they aren't going to recall it, they should cover repair expenses. This is a seriously dangerous situation. It's likely that our tank has been leaking for a while. We've smelled gas for about a year, but didn't realize it was leaking until recently when there was a clear puddle in the garage.

I noticed the smell of gas in the garage whenever the car was parked in the garage. The mercedes dealer determined that the right side fuel sending unit was leaking gas. The vehicle has a metal gas tank and the fuel sending unit is built into the gas tank and therefore the entire gas tank had to be replaced at a cost of $4209. 65.

Vehicle has less than 50k miles, we started noticing an intermittent strong fuel smell in the cabin in the spring of 2020. We found out that this is a known issue and mercedes had issued an extended warranty due to this issue. Unable to get the vehicle to the dealer due to covid. When we did get it diagnosed recently, we were informed the repair would exceed $3400 and we were out of the warranty period. The repair consists of replacing the fuel tank and fuel system components. Mercedes benz na has offered us a $400 dealer service credit. We cannot afford to do this repair and therefore have a vehicle we are unable to safely operate. We have read reports online of this issue where fuel is sitting on top of the fuel tank right below the rear passenger seats.
After I filled up my gas tank and came home and parked my car in the garage. After a few hours I smell strong gas smell. When I researched mbworld, I saw many people having the same / similar issue, and Mercedes Benz had extended the warranty to 15 years towards fuel leak issues. There were many articles on the forum. When I called my dealer, he said that I there are no recalls on it. How do I resolve this issue?.
When I fill the gas tank to the top, I smell fuel in the cabin, I think there was a recall for that, but dealership says no, there is a video on this issue on youtube as well, I got this recall number from a friend NHTSA#13003, could you please check and help me out.
When I fill up the gas tank I notice a gas smell from outside of the car on the rear drivers side. When the fuel level drops to 3/4 full the smell disappears. I'm afraid of an explosion if I park in an enclosed garage.
When I put gas in the car beyond one quarter of a tank, I get a very strong gas smell coming from the drivers side rear fender and tire area. . There is no visible gas leak on my garage floor. The car is stationary/parked in the garage.

Gasoline odor is noticed when fuel is added to the fuel tank. It is very noticeable when car is parked in the garage for over 5 minutes after a recent fuel fill. The odor is very strong and has caused household members to have headaches. I am forced to park the car outside due to this odor. I also noticed gasoline spilling on the floor near the fuel tank area.

There is fuel leaking and flooding on top of the driver side fuel sender unit underneath the rear driver side seat where it is located at the fuel tank. This was previously a NHTSA fuel leak investigation for these with the 2003-2008 e class vehicles which was later closed due to a recall being issued. My VIN does not seem to be part of the recall group, however, the problem remains the same as everything detailed in the report and findings of the investigation done by the u. S. Department of transportation national highway traffic safety administration for report vrtc-dcd-3206 ea13-003 in Dec 2014. (also attached). The fuel seaps out to the top of the sending unit due to a failed pressure sensor or other part in the system when the tank is full. When the tank is later less full as a result of consumption, there is no longer an issue with fuel spilling out of the top and fumes getting into the cabin. Video of the area wiped shows how it immediately returns to the top. The photo attached is of the fuel coming back after being wiped up.
I am having an issue with my E350 (09), every time I fill up my tank I can smell the gas. I don't smell it inside the car but outside the car and it is strong. It is really strong that you thought the gas spilled. Once the gas goes down to like 3/4 of a tank the odor will be gone. I tried tracing where the gas odor is coming from and I think it is under the fender on the rear driver side.
I inherited this vehicle from my father and when I fuel up the smell of gas is overpowering. I changed hoses and gaskets in 2018 and was ok until 3 months ago. Now it always smells like gas to the point of light-headed and vomiting. Called mercedes there was an active recall that expired in 2019 but I had never received notices and spoke to my mother that also never received. Mercedes admitted they had incorrect address so they were sending to a deceased person to wrong address. But since it is expired, there is nothing I can do for a faulty fuel tank that is extremely dangerous.

2004 mercedes e320 has a strong gas smell. Took vehicle to dealer and found out that "1/3 the fuel tank has a cover on top of it-sandwiched between the top of the tank and the floor of the vehicle the tank is leaking where the cover meets the 2/3 tank when you pull the back seat out you can see the tank top-fuel is seeping out staining the side of the tank" I was told there was a 15 year extended warranty due to this issue and I was advised it expired. I was never notified of the extended warranty and I have owned the car for 12 years. I reached out the mercedes headquarters and they advise its nothing they could do. This is a big safety issue because the car can catch on fire. Shouldn't this have been a recall? does someone have to die before it is. Mercedes still stated nothing they could do. The tank will cost $2300 and they advise no aftermarket available. This is unfair to the consumer by all means. Mercedes knowing knew there was a issue and no recall has been done.
Problem: car leaks fuel to the ground near the rear exhaust part of the car when gas tank filled past 3/4 full of a tank. Car leaks fuel, and smells excessively like gasoline inside, and outside of the car. This could be a potential health risk due to the fumes of the gasoline, and gasoline leaking. The problem could be a safety issue due to gasoline potentially leaking on the exhaust, and igniting. The car also will not pass emissions due to evaporation leak check engine codes. This happens every time a gas fill up more than 3/4 of a tank of fuel. I have pictures of the fuel leak.
When gas tank is full, I can smell gas from the drivers passenger side. When the gas tank is 3/4th tank, the smell disappeared. After research online there might be a problem in the rubber seal in the tank. It is a fire issue.

There is a strong smell of gasoline due to a defective gas tank seal - this problem is exacerbated when the gas tank is filled or nearly filled, the extreme danger of the gas fumes emitted manifests itself in the probable explosion causing deathly harm to people, owners and innocent bystanders, property, including the car itself. The car is a 2007 mercedes-benz e-350.
Car had quarter tank when bought. Drove out gas and put about another quarter tank of gas in. Drove this out. Smelled no fumes. Filled tank up. Have smelled loud gas smell for 1 week now.
Have a fuel leak from passenger side sending unit. Seems like it is cracked. I cannot fill the tank or a massive leak.

This vehicle is a threat to my health with all the problems I'm having with it. I have to press extra had to stop . Had brakes checked and there was no problem. There is a bad gasoline leak and loud smell of gas when I fill up. Looked under rear seat and saw gas on gas tank. Dried gas up and the big puddle returned. Can I drive this car? I need someone to tell me what to do. The last and most worrisome thing to me is that there are 2 dtc codes coming up causing the check engine light to come on. Had mechanic to clear then but they come right back when car is started. I need to get this car inspected. Someone tell me what to do. Mechanic said that the code indicate a problem with the engine and that it might take $8700 to repair every thing. I dont have that type of money. This is the car makers problem. Who is looking out for me. Is the goverment doing there job when it comes to this car. Heard there are more cars like this. Oh this is a 2006 mercedes E350. Will the goverment, dealer or manufacturer buy this car from me. This is a plea for help from anywhere. They say there is a recall on this car but when it came out there was 1 year left on car warranty before it ran out. The car didn't quit running when the stalling to repair these cars took place. Some one is in someones back pocket. Someone needs to do their job and get this problem taken care of once and for all. You may lose some friends in the process but this is better than someone losing their life. This vehicle has haad problems stationary and while moving.
My mbz E350 is leaking fuel. Very strong smell both from inside and outside. I believe this is extremely dangerous to the driver and or passenger in my car. Also, when gas tank gets filled up, my E350 engine will start but it will die within 5 to 7 seconds. I've contacted mbz USA to inquire about the issue, I was informed that there's no extended warranty available to address the issue. But I've couple of documents related to same issue in which mbz stated that they're extend the warranty to fuel components.
Fuel odor after refueling to full tank, gas odor only when outside of car. No gas odor after fuel level has dropped about 1/8th (7/8th still in tank). Can vissibly see fuel on outside of gas tank (wet and strong gas odor) when looking at fuel tank via rear passenger wheel well.
Regardless of vehicle movement gas leak from fuel tank located under back seat above exhaust system. Constant gas smell, and fuel gauge always jumping up and down again regardless of motion. Check engine lights indicate faulty coolant temperature sensor, and faulty fuel level sensor. Dealership is refusing to cover tank assembly replacement under pzev warranty of 15yrs / 150,000 miles in state of California. Vehicle is 2006, with 109k miles. Documentation of trouble codes not available at time of reporting, but can be provided upon future request. Fuel runs down the side of the tank narrowly missing the exhaust, potential fire hazard.

Strong smell of gasoline inside and outside of car after refueling! seems to lessen when the tank is below 3/4 full.
Fuel smells and leaks similar to earlier models. Mercedes claims this to be normal if the tank is overfilled when I called but don't remember the name of the person.
My Mercedes Benz 2011 E350 smelled like raw gas inside the drivers compartment apparently it was a leak from the top of the gas tank, my daughters 2010 c300 also just went in for the same problem leaking from the gas tank and even soaked the rear seat cushion, even though they repaired it I am worried that it could happen again especially if the parts replaced were not updated, it smelled up my garage and I fear if it leaks again it could start a fire in my garage, please advise. It appears it happens especially when you fill up the gas tank.
Very strong gas smell especially when the gas tank is full.
Extreme smell of fuel when making sharp or extended turns (freeway on/off ramps). Especially, when full tank is full. Called local dealer and mbusa was told this is not covered under the 15 year ' fuel leak' extended warranty! please note the puddling of fuel near the bottom of wire harness in picture attached.
Strong odors and fumes of gasoline inside of vehicle intermitttenly, they go away and then come back, pretty sure its related to gas tank and fuel sending unit components gaskets, seal etc, there is lot of complaints about this same issue .
The contact owns a 2007 mercedes-benz E350. The contact stated that there was an abnormal fuel odor coming from the vehicle. There were no warning indicators illuminated. An independent mechanic diagnosed that the vehicle needed a new fuel tank. The vehicle was not repaired. The dealer and manufacturer were not notified. The failure mileage was 139,462.
Gas leak and smell from the gas tank.
When car is filled with gas(full) , a gasoline odor consumes my garage. When we open garage all you can smell is gasoline. When the car gets less than 1/2 tank, the fuel odor subsides. Usually when I take it to dealer I have 1/4 tank and smell is hard to detect. This has occurred for over 2 years but smell is getting worse /stronger it starting to give us headaches.
