Gasoline odor when fill up gas tank, and it stay smell gas odor badly until gas tank drop to 3/4. This is common issue as stated in reference TSB no. P-47-10-63. I called mb at at 800-367-6372 but they refuse to fix my car under extended warranty.

Every time I fill up my car I get a strong gas smell inside and outside the car. It also leaks gas on the driver side on my driveway at home or where I drive and park for about the first 50 miles. The way I have learned to avoid the gas smell is I only fill the tank up to 3/4.

After I filled the gasoline tank I noticed a strong gasoline smell inside the cabin. I got a bad headache from the fumes before I got home. I did not smell any gas in the trunk, engine compartment or in the fuel filler door. I ventilated the cabin and tried to determine where the smell was coming from. It seemed to be under the drivers seat or back seat. Even after sitting all night and having all the windows open all day it still wreaks of gasoline inside. The smell has not left the cabin and I am afraid to drive the car.

My car make is 2010- E350 having the above problem besides takata air bag. What are my options? the dealer doesn't care of the issue. Will benz resolve the issue ?.

Oil cooler leaking. Repaired on January 2018 ,vehicle had 66724 miles,at mercedes-benz of west houston, even after repair the vehicle still has oil cooler leak. Timing chain rattle , incorrect signal from camshaft hall sensor. Ad-blue tank with heating element code 20b91b. Smell diesel on vehicle. The vehicle has now just 88566 miles .

"strong smell of gas on 2007 Mercedes Benz E350" whenever I fill my car with gas, there is a strong gas smell on the inside and outside of my car. It is so strong that it causes my entire garage to smell like gas. It is more pronounced when I fill my tank up with gas. As the tank empties with driving, the smell is less strong. This strong smell of gas is everpresent with a full and partially filled tank. This has occurred for some time now. Today, I took my car to the Mercedes Benz ontario dealer service department to ask for repair based on an extended recall (and unlimited mileage), they said they will not repair it using the recall, too many miles. My current mileage is 178278. Mercedes needs to recall all model years. This is very dangerous, and I question the liability in the event one of these cars catches fire as a result of the fuel system defect which mercedes is not willing to repair.

There is a recurring smell of gas when the tank is filled above 1/2 or so. Upon inspection by a mechanic, the tank is metal and is leaking in spots at the top of the tank. Mercedes benz issued an extended warranty for 15 years to cover this make, model and year but for some reason this specific VIN number is not being honored by mercedes. The mechanic says this is a safety issue and must be addressed as timely as possible. There is a bulletin from Mercedes Benz dated January 2015 that speaks specifically to this issue. I have contacted two different Mercedes Benz service departments (daytona beach and north orlando) who confirm this is a serious issue and it needs to be addressed. They both referred me to the Mercedes Benz customer service assistance center in new jersey. Upon contacting them, they said my issue had to be elevated to a managerial level for follow up but I have not heard back from anyone as of this complaint. I find it terribly frustrating and concerning that a known problem like this is not being more aggressively addressed to ensure my family's safety. If I wasn't living this situation myself I would not believe it - this is ridiculous. Please help!!!.

After refueling my car's gas tank I began to smell gas from driver/rear side when car is parked in garage. The smell disappears after about 50 miles of driving, but it comes back after refuel.

The stated vehicle developed strong gas fume smell after fill-ups a few months back at around 36000 miles. Unfortunately we left on vacation and later to our second home and missed getting to the dealer before our 7 years extended warranty was over in Nov. 2017. We returned home for the holidays and everytime we fill the tank the same odor reappears making it nauseating in our garage not to mention probably dangerous. I called mbusa and was told it isn't under warranty (funny mine just expired) and to take it to the dealer for an estimate. This is a vehicle that after its 3rd year has hardly been used driving less than 7000 miles in the last 4 years, and that has always been gargae kept. My search in the web has shown a lot of similar issues with Mercedes Benz vehicles, however mbusa told me not mine. This is a serious and dangerous issue that I'm affraid could cause serious damage or bodily injury including death should a spark happen in my garage. Again from my search it appears Mercedes Benz has had similar issues and perhaps hasn't found a complete solution.

Fuel sending unit leaks when gas tank is filled. . . Gasoline leaks onto top of sending unit allowing a strong smell of gasoline around car and in garage. . . After burning to about 3/4's of a tank smell dissipates. . If lifting backseat and removing 6 screws and coverplate fuel can be seen pooled on top of sending unit. . Extended warranty (15 years ) on other mercedes vehicles with same year groups experiencing the same symptoms/problems but not our particular model. . . Don't understand why. . . This is a defective design. . . Been driving 40+ years do a lot of work on own vehicles and have only seen this problem 1 other time on our 2006 Chrysler pacifica ( both tanks) same type of setup. . . This was when they were doing joint development with daimler. . . Same faulty design. . . . Dangerous!!!!!.

The manufacturer was contacted about the failure, they informed the contact that her VIN was not included in the scope of there investigation (ea13003). No additional assistance was provided. The failure mileage was approximately 95,000.

Strong gas odor when tank filled up. Keeping fuel level at only half tank do not smell - but when fuel up to full or close to it strong odor is back.

I smell a heavy fuel odor coming from the rear of the vehicle when I fill the fuel tank to 100%. Called mercedes and they told me that my issue is not covered under the recall even though I see that they have indeed had a recall out for this very issue. From what I have found online, my car should be covered under the recall for 15 years with unlimited miles.

The fuel tank leaks strong gasoline vapor into the passenger compartment and outside the vehicle creating a fire hazard and imperils the driver's ability to properly breathe. The vapors are strongest everytime the fuel tank is filled over half way. Current repairs are going to cost $3000. The mechanic says the root cause is the California emissions required components that are nonstandard. There are no pictures as the leaky fuel tank is concealed under the back seat, below where my children sit.

When gas tank is filled there is a very strong gas smell. The fumes fill up the whole garage and can be smelled while driving. Once fuel is down to 3/4 tank the smell goes away. Dealer says my car is pzev and therefore does not qualify for action pe12001. They say my vehicle is exempt from the warranty extension afforded all other cars in its class. Looking for recourse as my mechanic says the fuel system is identical in the pzev and non pzev vehicles.

Car shown intermittent problem of not accelerating when gas pedal is pushed. It will give many jerky movements but then after few minutes driving like this it will normalize. I took it twice to dealer and they could not identify or replicate problems. Then my wife taking kids to school has similar problem so I got scared for safety of kids and wrote to their head quarter. They told me to take the car back to dealer and leave it for 5-6 days so they can try to find the problem. After few days they gave me "great news" that they confirm the problem and identify the source it is"water in the gas" I was told that costco and smith sell cheaper gas but quality is not good and told me to watch" channel 3"where there was a report in this regard. I told them that I don't buy this theory as costco and smith are two big companies to allow this lacking and I see thousands of other motorists getting their tank filled there. They told me that mb will not guarantee until gas has not changed and I agreed to change the gas and get later fill up from "chevron". Or the safety of my kids I still follow their recommendations and gas is only refilled from chevorn but as I suspected this is not the problem as car continues to have similar problem and will not speed up by pushing accelerator intermittently . Due to risk car is almost kept in garage and used only for intense need.

When you fill up the gas tank, there is a very strong fuel odor in and outside of the vehicle to the point where the vehicle cannot be parked inside a garage and when driven the windows need to be rolled down. On 9/4/14, mb issued a warranty extension for this very problem, however, mb is now saying that my vehicle is a pzev model car which is exempt from the 9/4/14 warranty extension. This makes absolutely no sense as it is the same issue that many mb owners have complained about and there is no difference between a pzev model to a non pzev model (only in the sense of the catalytic converter which is not in issue). The cost is over $3,000 to fix what is really a defective and unsafe product. The part which is leaking fuel is a "left side fuel level sender assembly". This is an integral part of the gas tank. Based upon the 9/4/14 extended warranty letter from mb, the NHTSA was satisfied that the extended warranty would fix this problem. But what mb was able to do was to limit the applicability of the 9/4/14 extended warranty to only non-pzsev vehicles which I am sure eliminated tens of thousands of vehicles from the extended warranty. Moreover, there is no indication that the vehicle is a psev vehicle (other than what mb has internally). The 9/4/14 extended warranty should apply to all E350 vehicles model year 2003-2009. There is absolutely no reason to exclude a vehicle because it is allegedly a pzev vehicle. It is the same fuel leak/odor issue. Dealership will not fix under warranty and the corporate office has denied warranty coverage. Please reopen your investigation and get to the bottom of this clearly defective and dangerous situation. Clearly mb recognized this as a problem and that is why they issued the 9/4/14 warranty extension but then slipped in the exclusion for pzev vehicles. There is no reason to treat a pzev vehicle any differently.

Hello guys. I am having an issue with my E350 (07), everytime I fill up my tank I can smell the gas. I don't smell it inside the car but outside the car and it is strong. It is really strong that you thought the gas spilled. Once the gas goes down to like 3/4 of a tank the odor will be gone. I tried tracing where the gas odor is coming from and I think it is under the fender on the rear driver side.

I smelled strong gas smell a few days ago. I took my car to mercedes arrowhead located in arizona yesterday. They informed me that the problem would be covered under a 15 year warranty (fuel tank had started leaking). Today they called me and said that the leak had saturated to my back seats and that it wasn't covered because I had taken too long to call them and that's why the back seats were saturated with gas (I didn't know that my seats were saturated with gas until I started to smell it through my vents while ac was blowing). Now, I am being asked to pay almost $500 to replace the pads and deafening material as they told me it wasn't covered by warranty even though it was caused by a defective fuel tank. At this point I'm not sure if there have been any health related issues for myself and my 2 kids who normally sit in the back of the car who has been inhaling the gas fumes for an unknown length of time.

The vehicle leaks gas when the tank is filled. It seems to drip internally and can be heard as drops. The accumulated gas then evaporates and it has a very strong smell. In the garage, the smell is extremely strong. No wet areas under the car. Gas seems to collect on some of the plastic covers under the vehicle and close to the exhaust. Appears to be more pronounced rear/driver side. If this gas got in contact with the exhaust it could case a serious and possibly fatal fire.

Strong fuel smell after gas tank fill up under rear seat. Did research from NHTSA who stated mercedes had extended warranty for fuel tank components leak. Notified rbm mercedes atlanta of problem who verified extended warranty and agreed to repair fuel tank leak. However rbm mercedes notified me that the rear seat cushion was so saturated with gas fumes that they could not get smell out without replacing rear seat cushions which mercedes would not cover this cost of $550. They will replace components to delete fuel leak but not stand behind the consequences of the leaky fuel system. . Their inferior fuel system is the cause of this unbearable fuel odor that remains after their tank repair should and must be considered a part of the fuel leak problem. They should bear the expense of correcting this health hazard gas fuel smell. Exposure to this fuel smell is a real and serious health hazard that cause impaired driving abilities and permanent health consequences and must be dealt with quickly to eliminate any further exposure. The mechanic I took my car to told me about the extended warranty that mercedes was forced to issue due to investigation your department did. When I called mercedes, I was told that my car did not qualify because it was a pzev vehicle. My car has exactly the same issues as described by the other mercedes 350 e series vehicles. I noted in your defective investigation results, that you not not distinguish between the pzev vehicles and the non pzev vehicles. This is an expensive repair, and I believe that my car qualifies for the recall.

Strong gas smell when tank is filled all the way. This smell is prominent both when stationary or moving. The smell goes away when the tank is 3/4 full or less. Gas has leaked from under the rear seat on occasion. The smell fills up the interior of car as well as outside. Makes my whole garage wreak of gas and feels very unsafe.
