37 Other Fuel System Pump problem of the 2007 Mercedes Benz E350

Failure Date: 12/08/2015

I began smelling a strong gasoline order after driving and parking the car. The odor was strongest when the car was parked in the garage. You could not drive the car very far without having to open the windows. After about three weeks I took the car to a mercedes repair mechanic who informed me gasoline was leaking from the fuel pump located under the backseat. Due to the type of fuel tank I had (special order crash resistant tank) I could not just replace the fuel pump. I had to replace the fuel pump, fuel sensors, and the fuel tank. Driving the car without a repair was very dangerous. The cost was $3,000. I had no choice but to repair the car. The car had approximately 102,850 miles on it. Mercedes needs to do the right thing and step up and repair the 2007 E350's that experience this. It is either a design flaw or faulty part.

38 Other Fuel System Pump problem of the 2008 Mercedes Benz E350

Failure Date: 07/14/2015

The crankshaft sensor failed due to separation of bond wires from the lead frame in the sensor. This results in an interruption in the electrical connection in the chip housing of the sensor. The electrical fuel pump is not receiving a crash signal that is required for the fuel pump to disconnect and prevent future fuel delivery as designed. * my vehicle is experiencing the same issue as the recalled 2008 E350 models. The car will not turn over or start. There's a faint gas smell coming from the back seat. The fuel pump is not sending a signal to the my vehicle is currently with an authorized mb servicer, however, mbusa dos not want to pay for the recall issues.

41 Other Fuel System Pump problem of the 2008 Mercedes Benz E350

Failure Date: 12/01/2014

I purchased this used car and parked in my garage-came out about an hour after parking and noticed a very strong raw gasoline smell coming from the drivers rear inside the compartment. I removed the back seat and the fuel tank seal is leaking. Took the car to a repair shop to confirm and they agreed that the fuel pump, sending unit and tank seal are leaking fuel and are an explosion/fire hazard-need to correct this ASAP. They told me that this is a very common problem on this model car and that they have a lot of people come in with gasoline leaking from the same place. Very dangerous situation that mercedes needs to step up and repair.

43 Other Fuel System Pump problem of the 2007 Mercedes Benz E350

Failure Date: 11/01/2014

My 2007 E350 mercedes has a fuel leak. The local mercedes dealership (el dorado hills, CA) inspected the car, found the leak to be coming from the left side fuel pump at the fuel tank, acknowledged that it was a common problem, and that mercedes had extended the warranty to cover fuel system repairs. So I left the car to be repaired, but later the dealership calls and says my car is a pzev (partial zero emissions vehicle) car, and therefore not covered by the warranty extension, even though it is the same part that fails on a non-pzev car that is covered. I've had several conversations with mbusa (susan ext. 7815) and the local dealership (service rep. Gayton). They have offered me a 15% discount on the repair. I have already paid them $165. 00 for the inspection. This dangerous defect in the fuel system should be repaired free of charge by mercedes.

44 Other Fuel System Pump problem of the 2008 Mercedes Benz E350

Failure Date: 09/10/2014

Safety and health issue with fuel leaking from gas tanks and two fuel pumps in 2008 mercedes E350. There is terrible smell in the car that started around August 8, 2014 and has gotten worse. You cannot drive the car because of this smell. We find out from mercedes dealer that this is from corroded seals around gas tank and the two fuel pumps that pump fuel from the gas tank. Gasoline has leaked out and has saturated insulation materials inside the passenger compartment of the car. Apparently gas tank is located inside the passenger compartment under the rear seat. They are wanting to charge us $2,500 to fix and repair the damage - which is due to their faulty seals around the gas tank and fuel pumps - replace the fuel pumps, clean up all the spilled fuel, replace the insulation material and what ever else has been damaged. This should be a recall issue. I see story on internet where this has been reported 533 times as of March 19, 2013. . Read more...

45 Other Fuel System Pump problem of the 2007 Mercedes Benz E350

Failure Date: 06/23/2014

Purchased 2007 E350 wagon June 16 2014, upon first refill of fuel tank noticed the smell of gasoline inside automobile. It dissipates over time. On 30 June, purchased second full tank of fuel and noticed same issue and began research. I discovered this has been an endemic issue with the fuel pump and fuel tank. Am researching recalls and taking to trusted mechanic today to get to the root cause. Fuel vapors are highly volatile and I will contact Mercedes Benz to register my complaint. Will keep you updated. The current multi-billion gm recall is a similar issue that corporate leaders ignored for years and now paying a dear price. Will engage mb of na in a deliberate and dogged manner until resolved.

46 Other Fuel System Pump problem of the 2007 Mercedes Benz E350

Failure Date: 06/02/2014

2007 mecedez benz E350 showed symptoms of cranking but not starting intermittently and also noticed fuel odor in the compartment often for weeks. Eventually fuel odor was noted within the interior of the vehicle and the car will not start at all after cranking for few seconds looking like it was not getting fuel at all. When the car was arranged to be sent to the dealership, the tow truck guy removed the rear seat to identify source of fuel smell which had revealed fuel pooling on starting attempt of the engine and the heavy fuel pooling was noted at the fuel pump sending unit. This seemed extremely hazardous for car safety. The fuel was gushing out which spread to the seat and fabric and sent fuel smell and fumes into the passenger compartment. Mercedes quoted $800+ for the repairs and delivered the car promising that the faulty pump and sending unit was replaced. The car did not even make home and broke down before reaching home showing same starting problem . Hence it was towed back to the dealership and this time they are asking another $800+ to replace the second fuel pump which they claimed was working when the car was delivered. Fuel smell still exists in the passenger compartment and the car is not drivable . Dealership did not accept any responsibility for delivering the car without repairing the reported defect and asking double price for a manufacture defect of the car which is a major road safety hazard item and must be considered as a safety recall from mercedes car company.

47 Other Fuel System Pump problem of the 2007 Mercedes Benz E350

49 Other Fuel System Pump problem of the 2010 Mercedes Benz E350

Failure Date: 04/22/2014

The engine ceased to have power and stopped on the freeway in commute traffic. The gas tank had more than half a tank of fuel. The fuel tank in this model is under the rear seat. Because the drive shaft and differential are in this area the gas tank is in two sections but connected. There is a pump in one section which transfers fuel to the other section when that section gets low. The pump failed and stopped transferring fuel. The mechanic had never seen this problem. A new fuel pump was ordered from mercedes in los angeles as the car was too new to have the part locally.

Failure Date: 08/27/2013

Based on news items regarding mercedes-benz w211 (u. S. A. Model year 2003-2008 e class) vehicles experiencing fuel leaks, an inspection of the fuel system was performed on the above listed vehicle. Gross exam revealed no fuel puddling on the ground beneath the vehicle and a lack of fuel odor within the interior and exterior environment immediately adjacent to the vehicle. However, removal of the rear seat bench, underlying insulation pad and left fuel pump access plate revealed fuel odor; closer inspection revealed the superior outer aspect of the fuel pump assembly to be wet with gasoline; fuel-induced discoloration (white to brown) of the plastic comprising this superior aspect was clearly evident. Pooling of fuel within the left pump well of the plastic fuel tank was not present. The clamped black rubber fuel delivery hose was secure and dry, as was the outflow nipple to which it was attached. The plastic immediately adjacent to the nipple was not discolored. No remedial action was taken at this point, however, installation of a new style pump (delivery unit with fluid level sensor, m-b pn a211 470 41 94) and seal ring (m-b pn a211 471 05 79) is planned in the immediate future.

I got in my car yesterday to drive it and the odor of gasoline was overwhelming. I took it to my mechanic who told me that one of the fuel pumps under my car had a faulty connection and, as a result, fumes were escaping into the car. The entire pump needs to be replaced to the tune of at least $800. He said the only reason he knew what was wrong, without even looking at the car, was because another client had the exact same issue. He agreed that it sounds like a defective part.

57 Other Fuel System Pump problem of the 2007 Mercedes Benz E350

Failure Date: 08/17/2013

Fuel odor noted for several weeks surrounding exterior of vehicle, esp. Adjacent to left rear wheel. No fuel puddling noted on ground. Eventually fuel odor was noted within interior of vehicle. Removal of rear seat bench revealed fuel leak, with fuel pooling noted at fuel pump located in well on upper left side of plastic saddle-style fuel tank. Based on fuel-induced discoloration of exterior of plastic pump assembly, leak had been present for some time. Fuel could be visualized leaking from top of delivery pump with fluid level sensor, when pump was energized. Installation of new style pump (211 470 41 94) eliminated problem.

Failure Date: 09/05/2012

2006 Mercedes Benz model E350. Strong fuel odor emanating from rear area (trunk) of vehicle on the outside. Car would not start and towed by aaa to Mercedes Benz dealership/car repair. Aaa tow driver stated that the odor of gasoline was so strong he was tempted in calling the fire department. Mercedes benz service representative informed us at first that car was full of water. Originally the mechanic claimed he found a pool of water inside the car's trunk. The service representative informed the technician of our complaint of a strong odor of fuel coming from both inside and outside the vehicle. It was at this time the technician stated that he found a heavy pool of fuel in the trunk area of the vehicle. They were unable to identify the source of the fuel leak. They changed the gasoline tank and fuel pump but were uncertain of the actual cause of the leak. The vehicle remained at the dealership for one week. Mercedes benz service manager refused to acknowledge the fuel leak was caused by a factory defect and not by wear and tear of the parts and we were charged for all the repairs. We are aware that similar incidents have been reported for the same Mercedes Benz model in other states. We feel this needs to be addressed urgently before someone either gets hurt or loses their life. ## VIN passed ## Mercedes Benz E350 2006 ##.

65 Other Fuel System Pump problem of the 2007 Mercedes Benz E350

Failure Date: 08/28/2012

Mine is a 90000 mile vehicle showing normal wear, no abuse or no accidents, diagnosed with leaky fuel tank. Just spent $900 on fuel pump, sender and pressure sensor-all of which was to fix strong gas odor. Repairs did not abate the strong gas odor when tank is full. Independent mercedes mechanic then diagnosed as leaky tank and stated that repairs would be about $1500. His parts man said that the part number on the fuel tanks had changed three times-indicating that he thought that mercedes was trying different fixes. Mechanic also said that his shop has diagnosed/fixed several other with same problem. Gas odor is so strong that I believe that a tossed cigarette would ignite my mercedes. Mechanic says that the tank is some form of "plastic" and not metal.
