Total replacement cost: $1,164. 47 called Mini headquarters and was told there was no warranty or recall for my specific car. However, they told me that the 2005, 2006 Mini Cooper had a recall for the seat sensor. This is a major problem and should be recalled for the 2007 model as well.

39 Air Bag Light On problem of the 2008 Mini Cooper

Failure Date: 07/13/2015

My airbag light came on so I scheduled an appointment with Mini dealer. They informed me that the passenger side oc3 mat sensor needed replaced. They informed me that there is no recall for it and my car is no longer under warranty. The cost to replace is going to be $1,454. 52. After looking online at various forums, I have found hundreds of others who are experiencing the same problem at random mileages, anywhere from 30,000 - 150,000 miles. If this sensor, which is a major safety issue, keeps failing on hundreds of vehicles, this part should be recalled and fixed at the manufactures expense. How can they expect a customer to pay over $1,400 to replace a sensor that is just going to fail again in a short time, not to mention putting lives at risk? this issue has been going on for several years now without correction. Please recall this part.

No recall has be issued as of 5-28-2015. Please help us get this fixed.

43 Air Bag Light On problem of the 2007 Mini Cooper

Failure Date: 02/10/2015

The passenger seat has a pressure mat built into that has failed and it is causing the srs/airbag light to stay lit. This is turning off the passenger side airbag off which causes the passenger to not have airbag protection. This is a very common problem on all 2005 up Mini Coopers.

44 Air Bag Light On problem of the 2007 Mini Cooper

Failure Date: 12/22/2014

The passenger airbag fault indicator light has come on with no apparent cause, illuminating whether there is a passenger in the seat or not. The dealer has determined it needs to be replaced at the cost of $1000+. Based on the forums online, this seems to be an extremely common problem, so much so that Mini should consider a voluntary recall and cover the repairs.

45 Air Bag Light On problem of the 2006 Mini Cooper

Tl- the contact owns a 2006 Mini Cooper. The contact stated that the air bag light illuminated for the passenger seat. 46 Air Bag Light On problem of the 2006 Mini Cooper

Failure Date: 11/03/2014

I noticed that the airbag light in the passenger side came on, I kept an eye on it and at first it would go on and off. Then it got worse, it would go on and off when I would hit a bump in the road. Now its always on, I researched this issue and I found this site w/over 130 complaints on it. I see that BMW had the same issue and did a recall of all airbag issues. Mini is made by BMW why would they not cover any year that has the same airbag problem. I'm a teenager and can't afford to fix the issue that's approx $1,500-2,000. Or do I wait till my friend or someone gets seriously hurt, or even worse dies from this problem. For BMW and the cost of their cars this is small potatoes for them. For me to fix it mind as well be a million dollars, or the cost of a friend or family member. . God forbid!!! if there's this many complaints then shouldn't the manufacturer be held responsible? they had a recall until 05, obviously the problem still cont. Into 06 and should be recalled and repaired. They made the car, so I guess they also made the mistake. . Can someone please take some responsibility.

47 Air Bag Light On problem of the 2005 Mini Cooper

Failure Date: 10/02/2014

Red air bag light on center dash and yellow air bag light will not go out. This has been on going problem for years but just recently the lights will not go out.

48 Air Bag Light On problem of the 2007 Mini Cooper

Failure Date: 09/16/2014

Reporting serious recallable safty issue with Mini Cooper air bag sytem! my dealer just called to tell me the entire passenger seat must be replaced at acost of over $2500. There is a short in the airbag sensor in the passenger seat. I believe this is a defective component saftey equipment issue that should be fixed under a recall or extended warrentee. "passenger airbag off" indicator turns on while driving and remains on for the duration of the drive. Passenger seat was occupied by a passenger weighing approx 135 pounds with seat belt properly fastened. There is no way to manually turn on the passenger airbag and bypass the seat sensor. This is a known issue with the Mini Cooper and is discussed on online enthusiast forums, with Mini USA dealership now charging from $2500 to replace the entire passenger seat. Mini USA dealers state that the issue is an electrical issue with the seat sensor and the entire seat must be replaced. For how little the passenger seat is used in my vehicle, in my opinion this is a defect and not a wear-and-tear issue. I have never owned a car that had a vital safety issue arise such as this I also note that you have recieved a number of complaints about this saftey issue from other owners. It is a common complaint on consumer blogs.

49 Air Bag Light On problem of the 2005 Mini Cooper

Failure Date: 09/15/2014

The passenger air bag light, noting that the airbag is turned off, remains on even with a passenger present. With no passenger present in the seat, it still remains on, telling me the airbag is inactive. There is a weight sensor in the passenger seat, that triggers this light, and it appears this sensor is faulty. It started out with the light coming on intermittently, but now has remained on for a lengthy period of time. I understand this is an expensive fix for a very cheap part, and that the repair must only be done by the dealer. I feel that Mini should be responsible for this fix, as it's a very important safety feature on the car, and it has affected many other Mini owners, with cars built after January 2005.

50 Air Bag Light On problem of the 2007 Mini Cooper

Failure Date: 09/01/2014

The air bag lights began illuminating intermittently on my 2007 Mini Cooper with 48,000 miles. Upon my mechanic scanning the computer we found that the passenger side air bag sensor is out of the seat. The only fix is to replace the entire passenger seat cushion (cost: $1500). I googled "Mini Cooper air bag light" ¿ and found thousands of people with the same problem on many different model years. When I contacted Mini Cooper and questioned why there hasn'¿¿t been a recall issued, the person told me that since the passenger occupant still has the seat belt that the air bag malfunction is not a safety concern. When asked if the air bags would deploy on the passenger side in the event of an accident, he answered the question by saying "well, they still have their seat belt"¿. If the air bags are not a safety feature of the car then why is it equipped with 8 air bags? please investigate this air bag malfunction because as a Mini Cooper owner, this is a big safety concern for me, as well as thousands of other Mini Cooper owners who have taken to the internet to express their frustrations. Thank you.

51 Air Bag Light On problem of the 2005 Mini Cooper

Failure Date: 08/21/2014

The passenger air bag light (typically only on when someone under-weight ie. Car seat is present) remains on regardless of whether there is someone in the seat or not.

52 Air Bag Light On problem of the 2006 Mini Cooper

Failure Date: 08/01/2014

Air bag sensor in the detection mat of the passenger's front seat does not recognize passenger . The air bag light for the passenger in the front panel is intermittent, putting at risk of not deploying the air bag during an accident. The light will come up even when I have a purse on the seat or with a full grown adult (over 150 pounds). I recently called 2 local Mini dealers in southern California (July 2015) regarding this and both stated the same: that they have not received the spare part required for this recall and cannnot perform until Mini provides them with an authorization letter. Called immediately the Mini customer service line for recalls (1-866-825-1525) to find out when this will be solved since this has been on ongoing issue since mid 2014. Mini's customer service representative stated that we needed to wait until a new re-design of this sensor in the detection mat is available from them in order to provide this spare part to the dealers. In the meantime, we are putting at risk any passenger who will ride in our cars for an issue that has been known by Mini for over a year!.

53 Air Bag Light On problem of the 2006 Mini Cooper

Failure Date: 08/01/2014

Right seat air bag occupancy pad sensor causes airbag light to stay on. The sensor has been tested and is inoperative. BMW has a recall for all their vehicles with the same sensor. Mini Cooper needs to be held accountable for this faulty design and have to replace the occupancy seat sensor at no cost to the owners. This repair cost around $1300. 00. If this is not repaired it could prevent the air bags from deploying.

54 Air Bag Light On problem of the 2006 Mini Cooper

Failure Date: 07/07/2014

Tl-the contact owns 2006 Mini Cooper s. The contact stated the air bag light illuminated continuously. 55 Air Bag Light On problem of the 2007 Mini Cooper

Failure Date: 07/05/2014

"passenger airbag off" indicator turns on while driving and remains on for the duration of the drive. Passenger seat was occupied by a passenger weighing approx 195 pounds with seat belt properly fastened. There is no way to manually turn on the passenger airbag and bypass the seat sensor. This is a known issue with the Mini Cooper and is discussed on online enthusiast forums, with Mini USA dealerships charging from $1,100 to $1,400 to replace the entire passenger seat. Mini USA dealers state that the issue is an electrical issue with the seat sensor and the entire seat must be replaced. For how little the passenger seat is used in my vehicle, in my opinion this is a defect and not a wear-and-tear issue.

56 Air Bag Light On problem of the 2006 Mini Cooper

The contact owns a 2006 Mini Cooper. The contact stated that the air bag light intermittently illuminated. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The manufacturer was contacted about the failure. The failure mileage was 75,000.

57 Air Bag Light On problem of the 2009 Mini Cooper

Failure Date: 03/10/2014

Takata recall. . . . My passenger air bag light has been on for two yrs now and for no reason I'm a single man with no dependent children so rarely is anyone sitting on the passenger side. Dealership want 100's for repair. Rreally. . So I have let it on.

58 Air Bag Light On problem of the 2006 Mini Cooper

Failure Date: 02/01/2014

My 2006 Mini Cooper air bag lights (passenger seat light as well as dash board air bag system lights) are intermittently coming on and staying on when I start my Mini. The dashboard light apparently comes on when a fault is detected in the airbag system, and as a result the system is deactivated. This is very serious since I'm now driving in a Mini Cooper with no airbag protection. The seat light indicates the passenger air bag is turned off due to someone of light weight sitting in the passenger seat. This light is now coming on with any average adult or no one at all sitting in that seat. I decided to check the internet for this issue and was shocked to see how many people had the same issue. Even more shocking was repair cost for this issue. Dealers are charging customers $1000 to $2000 to replace the passenger seat sensor which appears to be the most common culprit. Instead of replacing the sensor itself, the entire seat needs to be replaced. Even saw some customers had the same issue reoccur 1 to 2 years after this fix. Spoke to my local BMW/Mini dealership who acknowledged that BMW had the same issue which is now under recall, but Mini does not have a recall. This issue needs to be recalled and fixed . . . Someone is going to get killed because of it! I love Mini but am highly disappointed with how this issue is being handled. My daughter wants to buy a Mini . . . I will strongly recommend she does not.

59 Air Bag Light On problem of the 2008 Mini Cooper

Failure Date: 01/01/2014

Passenger side air bag light started by intermittenly turning on> now its is on all the time. Same issue as other Mini Coopers that have been recalled. Was told I have to replace the sensor seat mat. This repair should be covered by Mini (BMW).

60 Air Bag Light On problem of the 2006 Mini Cooper

Failure Date: 11/20/2013

Air bag light came on after small pass used the seat and did not go off. After that the light would go off for a while and then come back on. I had it looked by my mechanic and was told it was the seat mat. He cleared the light and it lasted for a couple of weeks. The cost of the part to him was 1400. 00 plus labor. I received a safety recall for the same problem for my 2006 BMW. I received another letter from BMW and miss read it thinking it was for the Mini Cooper. I made an appointment with the Mini Cooper dealer in my area (raleigh nc) and was told when I showed up that the part was not under recall. I did not have the seat replaced at my cost since it is clearly a safety issue caused by a factory defect. I do not understand how it can be a covered defect in one BMW product and not in another when it is the same problem.

61 Air Bag Light On problem of the 2005 Mini Cooper

Failure Date: 10/01/2013

My car started with a low hum and as time has gone by the sound has gotten louder and ever since the sound has been there the power steering has intermittently gone out, but now is out almost all the time. My wife drives the vehicle the most but we were planning on giving it to our 17 year old daughter for her graduation present but now that this problem is an all the time thing we will have to go purchase a different vehicle for her. It is just frustrating that after reading all the complaints and them being the same it almost seems useless to file a complaint due to Mini not wanting their vehicles to be good. Also about 3 months after purchasing the vehicle the airbag light for the passenger seat is always lit.

62 Air Bag Light On problem of the 2005 Mini Cooper

Failure Date: 10/01/2013

The contact owns a 2005 Mini Cooper. The contact stated that the passenger side air bag light failed. The vehicle was taken to a dealer where it was diagnosed that the entire seat needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The VIN was unavailable. The approximate mileage failure was 60,000.

63 Air Bag Light On problem of the 2006 Mini Cooper

Failure Date: 07/06/2013

Air bag light went on for no reason, it is due to a faulty sensor that Mini is aware of the problem but refuses to correct. I don't have 1700 dollars to replace passenger seat - so all passengers will be at risk when I drive, as the air bag won't deploy or will deploy at full force.

64 Air Bag Light On problem of the 2006 Mini Cooper

Failure Date: 07/01/2013

The air bag light is continuously lit on my 2006 Mini Cooper. Initially the light was intermittently on; however now it remains permanently light. The dealer has indicated that the passenger oc3 mat is faulty and will be require a $1,000+ fix. Internet searches have found that this is a common problem with this vehicle and the same issue has occurred multiple times on some vehicles, even after being repaired with new parts. Additionally, BMW, the parent company of Mini, had a similar problem with their BMW vehicles and a recall was issued. Mini often uses BMW parts in their vehicles so it is possible and quite likely that similar parts were used. This is a genuine safety issue and one that is wide spread with this particular vehicle.

65 Air Bag Light On problem of the 2006 Mini Cooper

Failure Date: 07/01/2013

Passenger seat airbag sensor has triggered the red airbag light on the dash board instrument cluster. Currently I am driving a vehicle without operating airbags as it is $1,000 for the part. It was already replaced twice in the past under warranty. I read that BMW just issued a recall for the passenger seat airbag sensor for their cars but not the Mini which is owned by BMW. Hopefully I am not going to fast when the power steering motor burns out. . .

66 Air Bag Light On problem of the 2009 Mini Cooper

Failure Date: 06/04/2013

Occupancy air bag light stays on replacement 2 times now on again hit a bump it could at times go off. Replaced the water pump and oil pump not even at 60,000 miles.

67 Air Bag Light On problem of the 2005 Mini Cooper

Failure Date: 06/03/2013

Mini has announced recall no. 15v-205 regarding replacement of front passenger seat occupant detection mat sensor on Mini Cooper. My Mini has this defect and in order to validate this air bag related defect, Mini required me to pay a diagnostic fee. Now, Mini is refusing to reimburse diagnostic fee needed to determine that airbag light was due to the defect associated with the front seat detection mat sensor. This fee should be reimbursed since Mini acknowledges this is a defect for the front seat mat sensor.

68 Air Bag Light On problem of the 2006 Mini Cooper

Failure Date: 06/03/2013

Air bag light above rear view mirror illuminates when a passenger is seated. I have researched this and found many others having the same issue, but have not discovered a recall or any information to make the necessary repairs. Seems it should be fixed as they did with the 2002 model, covering the repair to 10 years or 150,000 miles.

69 Air Bag Light On problem of the 2006 Mini Cooper

Failure Date: 06/03/2013

Passenger airbag light on my 2006 Mini Cooper, above rearview mirror stays illuminated constantly, whether the passenger seat is occupied or not. After calling the nearby Mini Cooper dealer, and talking to the service manager he said yes we have a lot of problems with them. However there is no recall out for 2006 Mini airbag problems but there has been for other model years. Said the sensor and the whole seat may need to be replaced, bring it in and it will run you about $1200 to $1600. I asked does it mean my airbag will not function if I have an accident. The service manager laughed in a cavalier manner "well you always have your seat belt. " after months waiting for an official recall, called the national Mini customer relations who acted very non chalant and got no where. Went to a local european car repair specialist who used a computer scanner that said the passenger seat sensor is defective. He then used a brand new scanner and this time it said the driver side is defective. Said go on the internet I'm not the only one with the Mini airbag problems. Was shocked to see thousands, many who did spend the large amount of money and the problems keeps reoccurring. Mini needs to extend the airbag warranty to 150,000 miles at least for 12 years. Someone is going to suffer severe injury or death in a small car that definitely needs all the airbag protection available. $1600 is lot of money for a dealer fix that does not seem to work.

70 Air Bag Light On problem of the 2005 Mini Cooper

Failure Date: 05/20/2013

2005 Mini Cooper. While driving approximately 45 mph, the front passenger air bag off indicator illuminated with an occupant positioned in the seat. In addition, the failure would occur even when an occupant was not present in the front seat. The illumination no longer continued when the engine was turned off. The vehicle was taken to an authorized dealer, who stated the passenger seat mat sensor would need to be replaced. The vehicle had not been repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the problem. The approximate failure mileage was 35,000.
