Air Bag Problems of Mini Cooper - part 2

Passenger seat occupancy sensor has failed, rendering the airbag system permanently turned off until it is replaced. This is an issue that is so common that people are purchasing bypass units off of ebay to trick the computer into thinking the passenger is there. A quick google search will confirm this. It cannot be condoned that a company as large as BMW gets a free pass on refusing to fix this while companies on ebay profit on a device that is clearly not safe to use.

Supplemental restraint system (srs) airbag warning light has come on indicating a malfunction with this safety system and consequently that the airbag safety system may not deploy in the event of an accident. This problem is not unique to my specific vehicle and appears to be a very common issue amongst BMW Mini vehicles as evidenced by much discussion on forums across the internet.

When passenger is seated with safety belt on the seat belt light comes on along with a message that the passenger seat air bag will not deploy.

Car shows signs of passenger seat occupancy sensor recall. Mini acknowledges the recall has not been performed. Mini expanded recall to 10 years from date of service but because previous owner didn't get recall done I cannot. This is a known issue with these cars and should not have an expiration date! dealer I purchased car from used says that because recall isn't listed here then they aren't liable to fix it. . .

On October 4, 2022, the Mini Cooper hardtop 4 door was hit in a head-on collision by a driver who was going at least 40 mph, possibly more. The car that hit the Cooper was a Toyota prius. All the prious' airbags deployed. No airbags deployed on the Mini Cooper hardtop 4 door. None. The Mini Cooper, after assessment, was considered to be a total loss.

This vehicle just went over 66,000 miles and the airbag warning light started appearing. An independent mechanic and dealership both diagnosed and said it's a defective front passenger seat occupant detection mat and I'd need to replace the entire system/seat. Several other vehicles with the same part have recalls however my specific 2008 model is not included in this recall. I believe it should be included in the recall as this is clearly a known issue and an obvious safety system/design flaw. No sort of crash or collision occurred and now the vehicle will not pass safety inspection and is unusable because of this until I spent roughly $2000 on the repair.

The passenger seat occupancy detection module and program failed. The red airbag and seatbelt lights went on. According to the dealership, the default setting is that the airbag will not go off if the module is broken. A google search suggests that this is a common problem; so much so that there is an electronic gadget you can buy and videos on youtube on how to install it to do a "workaround" to get the light to go off without fixing the module.

The airbag occupancy detection switch in the passenger seat is defective. This is occurring so often on Mini Coopers (r56 models from 2007-2013) that a passenger occupancy defeat switch is being openly sold and youtube videos are available showing how to fit this device. This disables the occupancy detector switch, causing grave danger of death to infants or children seated in the passenger seat during a collision. Mini is currently charging nearly $1,000 to rectify this common fault. This defect has been confirmed multiple times by Mini, including on my vehicle on 7/8/2022. The component has been inspected by the manufacturer and confirmed to be defective. There were warning lights displayed on the central console, as well as on the driver tachometer every time the car is started. This warning cannot be defeated. Hello, an airbag sensor recall was issued in 2015 and Mini Cooper refuses to fix this safety issue. They are saying this recall is expired, but it has not been 10 years and the car only has 54,000 miles. This is a known defect. . Read more...

The passenger seat occupancy sensor has malfunctioned, causing the vehicle to believe that there is an infant car seat in the front passenger seat. This puts front passengers at risk because the air bags will not deploy in the event of a crash. While having body work done at swartz's ultimate collison repair in lewisburg, it was noted by the technician, however Mini does not cover repair by a non dealer or accept accounting of the defect from a non dealer. I was unaware that the vehicle was nearing the end of it's warranty and waited too long to inquire again. They will not fix it.

Lights come on & off for airbags and or seat belts - randomly - unknown as to why - or if they are working - sometimes stay on - for 2 weeks - then go off and not on for quite awhile (weeks) brought up as to -why? with no resolution except may need repair? does not seem to make sense - no accidents or even close to an accident ever occurring- local driving - car maintained.

The vehicle has a faulty seat sensor that causes the vehicle to default to having a non-occupied seat with warning lights. In this situation, a passenger will not have an air bag deploy even if they’re heavy enough to otherwise trigger the weight sensor. This is happening on my vehicle and, based on internet research, most other r56 models to the point of a market existing for electronic bypass modules. Mini will not repair for a reasonable cost.

The passenger seat oc3 occupancy sensor has malfunctioned, leading to the ecu to believe the seatbelt is unbuckled and disabling the passenger airbag while the car is in motion. This is a frequent occurrence which can be seen across all of the Mini/BMW forums for an untold number of owners of this build.

There is a warning light of airbag. But it havent reported when I purchased by a previous owner and carfax as well.

I was stopped at a red light. A Buick SUV traveling at an admitted 65mph rear ended me and pushed my car into the car in front of me. My seatbelt was on. My head hit the steering wheel resulting in a massive brain bleed. I have ruptured and herniated disks and severe whiplash as well as a fractured skull. My airbag did not deploy although my car was announcing a loud message over the speakers “we have alerted emergency services”. On Saturday, June 26, 2021, I was driving from a highway # 30 from caguas to humacao puerto rico and when a try to take the exit for my house the car swept away and crashed. The airbags do not open and the seat belt does not protect my self. I suffer many injuries in my head and body.

Tl-the contact is speaking on behalf of her son who owns a 2016 Mini Cooper. The contact son was driving about 45 mph without warning, another vehicle came out of no where and crashed into the driver side of the vehicle. The contact lost control and crashed into a tree head on. No airbags deployed. The contact sustained injuries to the right ankle which is dislocated, his vertebra l3 l5, the left clavicle which fracture. Medical attention was needed as the contact was taken to the hospital however had to be transported to the trauma center where the contact recover and was release on November 1, 2020. The vehicle was towed to independent lot where ussa sent an adjuster out inspected the vehicle and deemed the vehicle a total loss. No dealer was contacted. The passenger airbag warning safety light comes on and stays on when no-one or someone is sitting in the passenger seat with and without their seatbelt fastened. I searched online regarding this and found several other people experiencing the same issue. Since this is potentially a safety hazard to a passenger it must be recalled since multiple Mini Coopers are experiencing this error.

Air bag passenger light came on and stayed on. Windows down go up or down. Turn signals don't work. Ac stop working. It blows out hot air in the front. A loud thud noise happens once in a while from the back. Sometimes won't start like if the battery was dead. Sometimes engine won't turn off and will run without the key in the ignition. I've only had it since oct 2019.

Was in a significant motor vehicle accident on 2. 18. 20. Driving on us-98west 2016 Mini Cooper 4door when large chevy2500 pickup truck stopped suddenly in front of me. I was traveling at about 45-50mph. I was wearing my seatbelt. I slammed on brakes but made full contact with back of truck, I was slammed into the windshield and steering column. Seatbelt failed- airbag failed! Mini Cooper was determined a total loss by insurance company. I suffered a concussion, fractured sternum, two fractured vertebrae in my neck - c7 and t1.

The passenger seat occupancy detector is broken. This is apparently a common problem with bmws and Mini Coopers. Some models have been recalled. But many have not, including mine. The symptom is that seat belt and airbag warnings light up.

Srs warning light on. Intermittent at first. Passenger seat occupancy light on and off intermittently, occupied or not. Srs code reader indicates the problem is the passenger seat occupancy sensor. Mini dealer states the repair is not covered under warrantee. I fear for the safety of my front seat passenger if airbag does not deploy and/or the safety of a smaller child if it does deploy.

Airbag passenger light stays on when a passenger is in the seat and also stays on when is nobody in the passenger seat . And the passenger light turns on in the rpm gage (in the rpm gage ).

My 2018 Mini Cooper countryman s was involved in a front end collision with another driver who was traveling at approximately 50-60mph. We were traveling approximately 13 mph at time of impact and the front, knee or side air bag(s) did not deploy. I have a video of the accident as a dash cam was in place at the time of the accident.

The warning for th epassenger airbag comes on, though apparently nothing is wromg with it. It seems to be a commmon problem that Mini is aware off, puts people in danger, but doesnt do anything to fix the harness underneath the passenger seat, which they quote at 1200 to 1400 to repair their ill design and final product.

I was driving down hwy 16 (a straight a way 2 lane hwy) towards woodland when the display showed what appeared to be the water icon and I noticed white smoke from under my hood, so I pulled over and sat there thinking maybe my car was overheating. A truck coming behind me went by honking their horn and I looked in review mirror and noticed dark smoke coming from behind my car. . I then proceed to get out of my vehicle and couldnt get the drivers door open a gentleman came up to my vehicle told me to get out but I told him the door wouldnt open, he opened the door and was saying get out and away the cars going to blow up, that was my first acknowledgment that the vehicle was on fire. The police and fire dept was notified and came out to where the vehicle was at and proceed to extinquish the vehicle. I had to get the car towed by triple a off a friends of mines tow package that she has. Im contacting the fire dept and police today on getting some paperwork related to this today so all I have to show is pics.

I was at a stop because traffic was backed up in town near the highway entrance and a car rear ended me, pushing me into the car ahead. The rear car was moving at at least 20 mph. With a rear end and head on collision at that speed, my airbags should have deployed but did not.

The light for the passenger air bag in on. (red) every time. 94,166 mls.

I got the air bad warning a few months ago while driving the signal with a lil airbag on my dash board. I called the dealer took it in and the dealer said my car was out of warranty. They didn't check to see if this issue was a recall they just cared about fixing it if I paid them. Since then I get the airbag warning every time the car is on.

Passenger seat got wet window left open while parko.

The airbag for the passenger seat stopped working 3 years ago. I checked several times for a recall but couldn't find anything. I went to a dealership and was told that if there isn't a recall, there was nothing Mini Cooper could do about it. I took it to a mechanic and it will be over 900. 00 to fix the problem. Isn't it the responsibility of the car manufacturer to fix something that just stopped working (no accidents or any reason), especially since it is such a major safety issue?.

2007 Mini Cooper s airbag light with warning on navigation screen saying seat belt tensioner or belt force limiter has a problem and passenger airbag is off. Odometer is 76,000 when problem started.
