The paint on my black 2001 Mitsubishi Eclipse began to delaminate in October of 2004. I have noticed this same problem with other black Mitsubishi cars such as the galant but the Eclipses exhibit this problem more frequently. It began as faded areas on the roof then spread to the hood, trunk, sail panels and now to the top rear quarter panels. It seems to be caused by sun damage as a result of insufficient ultraviolet inhibitors in the paint as applied from the factory as I have washed and maintained the paint on a regular basis.

My 2000 Mitsubishi Eclipse leaks water one the driver and passenger sides. The water leaks from the hatchback area, especially when the car is parked on a downhill position. The hatchback area only has a small hole for the water to drain and it clogs very easily. Sometimes it doesn't even clog but somehow the water still does not drain. The service department at Mitsubishi "blows out" the hole but this is only a temporary fix. I check it at least once a week and it still floods. The flooding gets so bad that it shorts the speakers and stero equipment which is located under the seat. My car has flooded at least 50 different times since owning this vehicle and the continue to tell me that nothing can be done except for this "blowing out" the hole garbage. Don't buy this car if you have to park on any sort of hills. The last time it happened, I had at least 2 inches of water on my passenger side.

Purchased 2003 silver Eclipse GS with 5000 miles in June 2003. With in 12 months, paint was showing signs of wear and flaking off exposing primer coat. This deterioration progressed quickly and after 5 years hood, roof and rear quarter panels are almost completely down to primer. I am filing now to hopefully raise the number of complaints to the point where somebody realizes this is not an isolated incident but a systemic defect for which Mitsubishi should be held accountable.

The clear coat on my car is bubbling and then flaking off. I have multiple large sections of my car with the clear coat bubbling up and flaking off. It looks horrendous. On top of that, everytime there is any moisture in the air or it rains, the door handles become dotted. My car is patriot red pearl and the dots are a pinkish red. It is very odd. The dealers will typically repaint the handles but the dots will still appear. My biggest concern right now is the quality of paint and clear coat that is applied on the car. I would really like to see my car, and many other enthusiastic Mitsubishi Eclipse owners cars taken care of. (I own a 2000 Eclipse) thanks!.
I would like to file a complaint regarding my Mitsubishi Eclipse gts 2003. The product has not performed well because during the six months that I have had my brand new car, I had to bring it for several repairs. First, the car went to the shop at Mitsubishi bosak chicago for a loose bolt, second the car had a leak on the coolant system, third the wheel was no longer aligned, and fourth the rear defroster does not defrost properly. I am very disappointed of that matter because one of the reason I invested my money in buying a brand new car and choosing Mitsubishi so I dont have to spend more time in the shop for repair and spend more cash. The car was only six months old and already experiencing a lot of problems, now the car has been a year and I brought the car back to Mitsubishi bosak dealer to have the rear light fixed because water was going inside and still waiting to have the sunroof to be fix because it does not operate properly and the axle of the car needs to be replace. They wouldnt replace it right away because the mechanic stated that we have to wait for the item to be delivered. What if during that time of wait something happen to the car? (may god forbid) I have before try to complain with the Mitsubishi headquarter in California, but the person wouldnt do anything. I feel very unsafe of my car. I think that the company should check their entire product before selling it to the public. Driving my Eclipse is something that I fear because I never know something might happen because of the cars defect.
I have a 2001 black Eclipse gt. . . Bought brand new in Jan. 01. At 43,000 miles all top surface areas were showing signs of paint pulling from the primer. . . At 53,000 miles the roof was down to the metal. . . Took me months to get mits. To handle. They only would paint the affected surfaces? then 20,000 the rest of the surfaces became affected. I took it to the dealer and said they were not covering these issues anymore??if it was established as a defect it should be covered.
During rain the vehicle leaks through the fire wall and/or air vents into floor of vehicle.
Consumer states that the 2 metal pieces in the moving part of his covertible top is bent. He also states that the mechanic told him that the metal was too soft for that kind of top. He states that the manufacturer told him that they recognized the problem but do not offer any kind of quick fix or recall. Mr.

I own a 2000 Eclipse. Every time it rains heavily I get a puddle of water in the front floor boards. This has been going on for some time now. I have taken it to several dealerships and they say it is fixed but it still leaks. There is a real bad moldy smell on the windows. When I drive it after a big rain storm, I can hear water slushing around in the door. There has to be a fix for this. I do not want to get rid of the car but. . . . I hope I do not need to make a big thing about this problem. Feel free to contact me.
There appears to be a manufacturers defect in the body of all Mitsubishi Eclipses that have the same body style of 1998. There is a piece on the underside on the driver's side that catches on parking space markers and causes the whole front piece of the car to either tear, hang, or in some cases fall off.

The rear cargo lid is loose and is rattling, dealer found 2 clips broken.
No injuries: a blow out within a 2 yr period, front left tire flat 13 times, replaced that rim 3 times. Drivers side door, left side of hood, left rear by trunk does not align properly to the right side. Already had a manufacturers defect in my left strut scratches by left tire started out small now are 5 inches wide.
The first week of buying the car I noticed a little scratch by the front drivers side tire. Then I started hearing little squeaking noises when I was reversing coming from the same left tire. Then I noticed the rim was bent I brought it to the dealer they said I was hitting curbs & road hazard. Months later the scratch at the bottom by the fog lights was getting bigger and deep the tire kept losing air and those springing sound noises I still heard. Make the long story short it is 2 years later the deep gashes from the left front tire is now all the wayaround the bottom of the fog lights almost reaching the midde. I went thru 2 tires no blow outs thank god 3 rims and one was a replacement the tire keeps leaking air there is nothing wrong with the right side of the car its all the left front. I spoke to the manufactuer of mitshubshi they are aware of this they said its not a safety issue . Don't blowouts happen due to bent rims? they noticed its only happening in certain states that certain states road conditions are bad. All states have potholes but when you are driving 15 mph, hit a pothole ,& your rim bends causing your tire to leak air something wrong. These rims are constantly bending but on my car it s only the left side. Its unsafe, because when I hit a potlhole it makes a loud banging noise even my brake pedal shakes. If I knew all these complaints I would of never bought this car now I know its not me but the way these cheap soft wheels were made something should be done about this its unsafe and the whole car shakes and steers to the left after hitting a pothole. I dont use my car alot mostly back and forth to work on a highway 15 miles one way. I am tired of purchasing rims at $300. 00 I pay enough for this car and for the money I pay I should have decent rims that can stand driving over a 15-30 mile an hour pothole. I had cars before this never had a dented rim . Something should be done about this there are even complaints on jdpower's website.
