Mitsubishi Galant owners have reported 9 problems related to brake disc caliper (under the service brakes category). The most recently reported issues are listed below. Also please check out the statistics and reliability analysis of Mitsubishi Galant based on all problems reported for the Galant.
After replacing front/rear brake pads, calipers, and rotors plus applying the proper lubricant brakes not only still squeal but I am having occasional grinding mainly coming from the front disc. Have had them inspected by multiple mechanics. They said everything looked fine. Diagnosis has yet to be determined not only by mechanics but apparently by Mitsubishi. This is my only transportation after just having to lease this vehicle to find out this is a very common issue that has not had attention from Mitsubishi. I have always owned american made vehicles because of too many fears from foreign manufactures. I chose this vehicle because Mitsubishi has great designs. As for producing a recall for this very known problem. It seems like producing this recall would only put Mitsubishi further in debt. If honor is what your culture live by, then honor this mistake before many lives are lost.

I continue to battle premature failure of the front brake rotors. The car is typically used with one occupant and no or very little (20lbs or less) cargo. In the approximately 20,000 miles I have owned the car, this issue has been repaired 3 times and has now failed the 4th time. It would have been repaired more times if I could afford it. More than 10,000 of these 20,000 miles have been driven with the brakes squealing or chattering. Eventually the braking power fades and the steering wheel shakes too much to hold onto. While the car was under warranty, the dealer refused to do any repair covered by the warranty. The dealer would not inspect or repair the calipers in spite of the fact that the type of squealing indicated poor contact of the pads with the rotors due to sticking calipers and the fact that heat warpage of the rotors indicates sticking calipers. Calipers were covered under the warranty. Instead, the dealer claimed that I needed to bring the car in for rear brake adjustment at the same interval as an oil change; however, research tells me that this car has auto adjusting rear brakes!
this time I took it on myself to service the front brakes as I couldn't afford to have them serviced, my wife and I were afraid to drive the car because the shaking during braking was so bad, and sears told us that rotors had worn too thin to resurface. At the time I did this service, I found the slide pins of the calipers to be badly worn. This type of failure will cause calipers to stick, prematurely wear brake pads and rotors, overheat rotors and pads causing warpage of the rotors and reduced braking power, and reduce braking power by causing the caliper to catch rather than slide on the slide pin and thereby prevent proper pressure on the brake pads. This is a failure of the caliper, which should have been easy to detect and covered under warranty, which specifically covers calipers.

Brake rotors jerk vehicle.
Car brought in for service. Brake pulsation, second time, left front wheel. Car is under 3 year 36,000 warranty. Car has 23,472 miles, warranty good till Feb 27th,2005. Dealer says I need brake pads, inside pads are worn paper thin, outside pad is half life. This is the second time I brought this vehicle in for same complaint. Dealer will not cover the brake pads. Being that this problem has occurred twice, and from same side. . I would believe that a malfunction of the brake caliper,or other defect has caused the abnormal wear on pads. Dealer replaced both front rotors, would not cover cost of brake pads! also requested front wheels to be balanced, dealer charged me for re-balance,but wheels were not re-balanced,hence. . Still have vibration.
Brakes vibrate, grind, squeal and fade. Mitsubishi says nothing wrong and keeps resurfacing rotors and replacing pads. First brake job was at approx. 850 miles, they said faulty caliper supports were the cause. They squeal from the moment I pick up the car from service and start to grind and pulsate religiously every 5000 miles after brake service. This vehicle has been in the shop for the same problem about seven times and they tell me that the brakes are over heating due to driving habits and local traffic. None of my other vehicles ever had issues like this driving in the same traffic.
The rear brakes on the back wheel made a dragging noise. This occurs either when the brakes were applied or just normal driving. The brakes were replaced but the noise returned after several thousand miles. The brake calipers also caused problems forming residue on and around the caliper seal. Please provide details.

Steering-car pulled to the right -remedy, tech said steering wheel off center, adjusted and cross rotated front tires. Brakes-grinding -remedy, tech said caliper supports were faulty, replaced supports and turned rotors, they would not replace rotors. Other-hood was not secure in hood latch, bounced up and down. -remedy, tech said hod latch out of adjustment, still bounced after car was picked up.
Brake caliper causing wheels to lock up intermittently. Vehicle been to an independent repair shop, and problem still occurring. Please provide any further details on this matter.
