I purchased my 2007 Mitsubishi Galant on April 28, 2007. After about 7000 miles, my brakes started pulsating. I took a day off work to return to the dealer and have them fix this problem. The service department decided to just re-surface the rotors and send me on my way. About 7,000 miles later it happened again. . . So back to the dealership I went again and once again, they decided to resurface my rotors. . Now of coarse at 22,000 miles on my vehicle, my break light has been coming on with the pulsation back and my brake pedal now continues to move toward the floor when at a complete stop. So back to the dealership again only to be told that my master cylinder & brake booster are leaking and they will replace the faulty parts but that my rotors are too low to resurface again and that I will have to spend about $400. 00 out of my own pocket to replace them. . . There is obviously a problem with this brake system and I believe the rotors should have been replaced under warranty the first time or even the second time the pulsating happened.
I have taken my 2004 Mitsubishi Galant to the dealer over 9 times for my brakes. I contacted a lawyer for the lemon law and was advised that due to my mileage I didn't qualify for a lemon return. He advised me to settle with Mitsubishi and move on. In the process of the attorney processing my settlement, my vehicle was involved in a non collision accident, we feel it was break failure, but the lawyer stated it would cost too much to prove it was break failure. I did as he stated except that I didn't move on because I can't afford another vehicle. I took my vehicle to another institute and had them inspect my vehicle, they stated to change my breaks again. . . I paid them to do it and I am still having the same issue with the breaks. I have been driving this vehicle for over a year with constant break issues and have not been able to resolve the problem even after spending almost $800. 00 in breaks and rotors since November 2006. That sounds like a lemon vehicle to me. I have been ripped off my the dealer and the attorney who handled my case.

Bought 2003 Galant new. With 54,000 just replaced brake rotors for the 2nd time. Brakes still good, but rotors warped, causing wheel shimmy when braking and tire cupping.

Since purchase of 2002 Mitsubishi Galant have had numerous problems with squeaking brakes, rotors replaced twice since purchased 7/05. Was told by dealer that squeaking was from driving habits; nothing wrong with brakes. Had to take vehicle to private mechanic. Also, problems with air conditioning. Hot air blows out bottom vents by floor. Air doesn't get cold either. Have had vehicle air conditioner charged both last spring and also this spring. Within 2 weeks air only gets semi-cool and floor vents blow really hot air at all times. This vehicle is a disgrace. More trouble than enjoyment. Only good thing is appearance and style. Mitsubishi has had numerous complaints about both the brakes and air conditioning on their 2002 Galantes. Poor quality automobile.

I continue to battle premature failure of the front brake rotors. The car is typically used with one occupant and no or very little (20lbs or less) cargo. In the approximately 20,000 miles I have owned the car, this issue has been repaired 3 times and has now failed the 4th time. It would have been repaired more times if I could afford it. More than 10,000 of these 20,000 miles have been driven with the brakes squealing or chattering. Eventually the braking power fades and the steering wheel shakes too much to hold onto. While the car was under warranty, the dealer refused to do any repair covered by the warranty. The dealer would not inspect or repair the calipers in spite of the fact that the type of squealing indicated poor contact of the pads with the rotors due to sticking calipers and the fact that heat warpage of the rotors indicates sticking calipers. Calipers were covered under the warranty. Instead, the dealer claimed that I needed to bring the car in for rear brake adjustment at the same interval as an oil change; however, research tells me that this car has auto adjusting rear brakes! this time I took it on myself to service the front brakes as I couldn't afford to have them serviced, my wife and I were afraid to drive the car because the shaking during braking was so bad, and sears told us that rotors had worn too thin to resurface. At the time I did this service, I found the slide pins of the calipers to be badly worn. This type of failure will cause calipers to stick, prematurely wear brake pads and rotors, overheat rotors and pads causing warpage of the rotors and reduced braking power, and reduce braking power by causing the caliper to catch rather than slide on the slide pin and thereby prevent proper pressure on the brake pads. This is a failure of the caliper, which should have been easy to detect and covered under warranty, which specifically covers calipers.
I own a green 99 Mitsubishi Galant and the clear coat is coming off causing my car to look like it has alligator skin it started on the roof and has now spread to the trunk and hood. I called Mitsubishi to see if they had any complains about the paint and I was told no. The operator then asked what state I live in and when I told her that I live in texas, she told me that I should have expected to have paint problems with my vehicle because the texas sun is so harsh. I have also been involved in 3 accidents in the vehicle and my airbags have never deployed. I also have a problem keeping wheel cover on all it takes is a slight bump in the road and off they come. This year model also has major problems with the rotors warping.

Had wheel cylinders replaced -- left rear in 2004 and right rear in Dec 2005. Went for oil change today and asked the mechanic to pull of rear wheels because the brakes didn't feel right to me. Right rear was soaked in brake fluid and left rear had just started to leak. Right rear had also started to seize up due to brake fluid coating the shoes. Wheel cylinders shouldn't fail after only 4 months -- and even 2 years seems like it is a short period of time. Have had other cars and never had this issue. Also, front rotors seem to warp out really fast -- as in once a year. I drive car normal and am not harsh on the brakes.

The vehicle has a consant squeaking noise and a slight vibration when braking. I have contacted the local mitsubitsi service department 4 times about this concern. I know that it is not the brake pads because I have changed them 4 times and the vehicle only has 27000 miles. I was told at my last visit that I should have reproted this problem before the vehicle had 10000 miles. However, when I told the service clerk that I had, he advised me that they had no record of it, only that I had taken the car in for oil changes. I feel that my vehicle is unsafe. It is not normal for a vehicle do the above described when braking.

I purchased my car on August 10. 2005, at approximately 32,000 miles. On November 8, 2005 I was driving on I-285. I went to apply my brakes, but my car failed to stop, and skidded for up to a minute. On November 11, 2005, I had my car serviced at the Mitsubishi dealership. It was stated that my back brakes, were not working and needed adjusting, causing the front brakes to have to do all the work. This is turn caused the front rotors to overheat and become warped. The dealership turned the front rotors, and adjusted the back. One week later on November 18, 2005, I was driving on donald lee hollowell parkway, when a driver in front of me slammed on her brakes. I in turn put on mine but the car did not stop and skidded into the back of her car, causing an accident.
Mitsubishi gallant: I bought this car pre-owned, with 40k miles. I have already service my brakes about 4 times. I used have a dealer warranty, but it was useless. A mechanic that I trust told me that my rotors had to be replaced. However, he didn't advice me to replace them because it was an expensive job and there was not warranty that the car will not continue with the same problem due to factory defects. He told me to look on this page for many issues on this car. I will get rid of this car as soon as I can. I will never buy this brand of car again, I'm very disappointed.
I purchased my 2002 Mitsubishi Galant on February 2002. I have had brake problems from the 1st week I purchased it. I took the vehicle to the dealership a total of 4 times and also called numerous times that year. Every year from then, I have had brake pads put on maybe 3 times per year. Every other month, it seems as though something is going wrong with my brakes. Just last year, I had brake pads put on and also had to replace the rotors. Just today, I heard my brakes scrubbing and whistling when I'm driving. Something is definetly wrong with this vehicle.
Recurring and severe front brake chatter. Despite repeated repair, the front brakes chatter on braking so much that the steering wheel shakes. The braking strength is substantially reduced and braking distance substantially increased. The dealer claims this is due to the rear brakes being out of adjustment causing the front brakes to work "too hard" resulting in warped rotors. They will not cover these repairs under warranty. The repair only lasts about 3000 miles at best.
Our Galant has squeaking and grinding when brakes are applied. Currently at 46,000 miles, and the 4th set of brakes and 2nd rotors will be installed. Dealer says it is driving habits and will not fix even though I purchased extended 75,000 warranty.
The front brake rotors warped prematurely, and had to be replaced every 5,000 miles. Dealership repaired rotors 3 times. However, problem recurred.
Brake rotor getting warped causing vibrations, machined(lathe) each time and I wanted new rotors. It happened at around 18,000 and 9 months later 24,000 same problem. The third time at around 32,000 they blamed me for the causes from poor driving, non rotation of tires, torque of wheels, etc. I am the driver most of the time of this car since it's the newest of 5 cars and I am the most experienced. I never had this problem with my Honda,Subaru,Toyota, and Mazda. I spoke to Mitsubishi customer relations officers to no avail. They insist it is wearable item and it's not covered although the first time the officer told me when I asked for new rotor they will do it the next time since it was just turned(lathe). But the second time they deny telling me that and wanted me to pay the dealer to have it opened and have it inspected. I just left, why pay them for what I feel a warranty issue.
Brakes have worn out in the last three years five times. Car is hard to control when braking. . Light brackets have burned out twice in the past year. . . My paint on the car has faded what to do, I need help!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! . Updated 01/11/08. Updated.

My Mitsubishi g is a 2002. I bought it 2/2004 from carmax! not even 3 months into driving my car, I've had brake problems which began squeaking, then grinding. Carmax changed the pads and I still had the same problem at least 3 months later! I bought 4 new tires from sears! this is not my 1st car and I know brakes should not be changed that often. I went back to the dealer 3 times since I bought my car. They are good for saying the complaints are not listed on the warranty. Oh and everytime it rains, my entire left side is drenched only on the floor! the dealer I purchased says they can't find anything wrong. Now my inside floors are getting worse. Every time it rains heavy! the Mitsubishi hub caps never stay on the tires! the heating system makes noise when you turn temperature from hot to cold???? I've always thought this make car were a satisfying company. Blue book car value should really investigate the cars made by Mitsubishi during the entire 2000 years! not to mention people like myself are making car payments.
I have replaced the pads and turned the rotors on a 2001 Mitsubishi Galant DE to correct the problem with the car shimmying and poor braking ability. This corrected the problem for only 5,000 miles. I can see that I am going to have to replace or turn the rotors again and possibly replace the brakes. I have a friend who is having the exact same problem with his 2001 Mitsubishi Galant ES. I have also talked to other owners who are experiencing the exact same problem. After I ahve found this web site I will refer them to write a complaint. This has been very frustraiting because there does not seem to be a resolution and the car is recently out of the warranty at only 36,000 miles. I would like to know if there are other people who are experiencing the same problems and if they have found a resolution ?.
When the brake pedal was applied, they failed to respond which caused the consumer to hit a guardrail. The vehicle was serviced in Aug of 2003 and the consumer wa told the rotors were bad. Three months later the rotors went bad again and the dealer machined them and two days later the accident occurred. The consumer stated the air bags did not deploy.
The brakes and rotors were repaired three times since the vehicle was purchased. Dealer stated that consumer was putting too much pressure on the brakes.
I have had repeated problems with my brakes. I purchased my 2002 Galant ES brand new in Feb 2002 from garcia Mitsubishi. I started experiencing problems with my brakes when the car had around 21000 miles. The brakes started squealing like a bus, so I took the vehicle into garcia Mitsubishi in albuquerque, nm. I was told by the service manager my rotors were getting too hot which caused the brake pads to crystallize or glaze over. I was told to have the brake pads changed and the rotors turned. I had the brake pads replaced (with non-factory pads) and the rotors turned around 24,000 miles. My problem recurred, leading me to believe the problem did not lie with the pads. I took my Galant back to the service department and was again told there was not a problem, my non-factory pads were the problem. I know this is not true because the problem originated with factory pads. I took my car to two mechanics who both said the rotors are no good and there is a high possibility of the caliper sticking. I did some research and found there are others who own the same model and year as my Galant who are having similar problems. Each time I have taken the car to the dealership I am told that there is nothing wrong with the car. This problem is definitely not wear and tear. Garcia Mitsubishi responded to a letter I wrote and told me that they would not honor my warranty because I did not maintain my car at the dealership (oil changes, etc. . . ). I have replaced the rotors and brake pads numerous times. The vehicle shakes when the brake is pressed. I can also smell a strong scent of burning rubber. It has been a short 4 months and they need to be replaced again. I have called 800-mitsu2002 and they accused me of being a bad driver. I have owned 5 other vehicles in the past and never have had this problem before. I am afraid of driving the vehicle because if I ever have to brake suddenly, I will not be able to.
Consumer had front/rear brakes and rotors replaced three different timesdue to excessive wear after 1,200 miles.
Front rotors warped at around 15000 miles. At the first incident, I had the rotors turned and bought high quality pads. Shortly thereafter, the rotors warped again. I bought another set of rotors, and things were okay for about 10000 miles. Afterwards, braking vibration came back. I decided to buy brembo slotted rotors in case the factory rotors were not good enough. I finally found an internet site that had them for this car, but I probably cannot write the name here. I also made sure my tire center did not torque the lugs over 80 foot pounds when rotating the tires. After a rotation, I used my torque wrench to verify proper torque. So far the brembo rotors have not warped. Lastly, I have noticed the steering wheel vibrates at highway speeds. Tire rotation and balancing does not help.
Rotors warped and rusted and could not be resurfaced. Resulting in cost of $475 dollars for new front rotors and brake pads. Also minor crash for slow stopping. Car also jerks when changing gears.
Rotors- I have had my car now for a year and 2 months. It was purchased brand new and the rotors have been changes twice already and probably a thrid time by next month.
Noticed "squeaking" noise when driving at minimal speed-especially when turning the steering wheel. Auto mechanic said the steering needs to be replaced. Also, brakes have been constant problem with rotor damage.

Summary - vehicle steering and brakes vibrate upon braking, poor brake performance - braking distance is too long. Shoddy rotor/caliper quality. Dealerships and Mitsubishi refuse to fix the problem. The car has been returned to the dealership repeatedly (5 times) to remedy the braking problem - every few months (with less than 2500 miles since the last time the rotors were replaced). The car was taken to the west broad Mitsubishi dealership in richmond, va where it was determined that the problem was being caused by warped rotors. The dealer resurfaced the rotors to fix the problem. However, the problem re-occured after 7000 miles. West broad Mitsubishi then claimed that they replaced the rotors. 5000 miles later, the brakes began squeeling and the vibration started again. I took the car back in to the west broad dealership and they told me that they had to replace the rotors a second time to remedy the problem. Barely 2300 miles later, the car had to be taken back to another Mitsubishi dealer (stohlman) in vienna, va. The dealer told me the (new) rotors have warped and theyve had to be resurfaced. 2 weeks later (about 500 miles), the problem showed up again. At this point, I wrote a complaint letter to Mitsubishi. After 4 weeks, a Mitsubishi rep came to the dealership to check the problem - only to claim there was nothing worng with the car despite obvious vibration and brake squeeling. Subsequently, a quick check by a third-party mechanic revealed problems with the rotors and calipers.
I purchased a 2003 Mitsubishi Galant in December 2002. Since purchasing the car the brakes and rotors have been replaced every year. Also, there is a huge list of other parts and replacements that have been done; the most recently timing belt, water pump, valve cover and gasket, heater hot water control, valve, thermostat for cooling system, etc. This car only has 44,000 miles, and it works as if it has over 200,000 miles.
Complaint: repeated problems with front brakes. Rotors have needed to be resurfaced several times and now are unable to be resurfaced again and need to be replaced. Continuous vibration of brake pedal and in steering wheel while braking. At times, entire car feels like it is shaking (passengers notice the vibrations through their feet on the floorboard). Was involved in an accident in November of 2002 where I felt that if the brakes were operating as they should be, I would have been able to stop in time. Dealer has not been contacted, although judging by the sheer number of complaints, I'm sure they are aware of the braking issues with the Galant. Please provide me with more information. I would love to get out of this vehicle without owing my first-born, as my first-born is due in November and I no longer feel comfortable driving this vehicle with the thought of an infant as a passenger.
I bought my Galant in October of 2002, the first year I had the car I had to take it in for the brakes squeaking and grinding four times. Each time the dealer said that there was nothing wrong, and sent me back home. I was told that it was my fault that my brakes were bad because of how I drive. I only had the car for a couple weeks when my brakes started squeeking and grinding the first time. I contacted Mitsubishi, and was told that there was nothing wrong with my vehicle, and that they were not going to fix the problem. I feel like this is an unsafe car for my child to ride in because I do not know when my brakes might fail or really what is wrong with them. My engine also has a burning smell to it almost all the time, and I was told that there was nothing wrong by Mitsubishi. I also have numerous friends that have Galants and have the same break problems.
Brakes & rotors constantly have to be replaced. Car was in an accident 3 times hit from the front and airbags never deployed. Engine has stalled on several occasions. Problem with horn fuse. High beams stopped working. When accelerating, sounds like engine is having problems getting gas. Doesn't accelerated to well at all sometimes.
Front brake rotors warped after 15000 miles, and the problem resurfaced again at 29000 miles along with excessive brake noise.
There was a vibration and brake pulsation. The front rotors were inspected and were found warped. The dealer replaced the two front tires to eliminate the vibration in which the problem remained. The tires were changed 11 times in less than a year. The vibration remained and was most noticeable when the vehicle accelerated or on bends and remained throughout the range of driving speeds. The drive train was thought to be the problem per conrad's(service dealer). There also were dangerous fumes when the vehicle was started inside the passenger compartment, the fuel gauge had become inoperative, and there was premature rusting in the seams of the engine.
My vehicle has been in out of the repair shop regarding my brakes. None of the technicians at ourisman Mitsubishi can identify what is causing the problem. Upon the request of the gm, I took my vehicle to them to have it inspected again. I purchased my vehicle in 2002 and in that year I have taken my vehicle to the service department to have my brakes worked on. My brakes are constantly producing a grinding noise. The grinding noise also makes my vehicle vibrate when braking. I have filed several claims regarding the issue with bbb and misubishi has not yet performed a thorough inspection on my brakes, front and rear as promised, to determine what is causing this problem.
