Brake Disc Rotor Problems of Mitsubishi Galant - part 2

The brakes and steering wheel shake when the brakes are applied. The brakes seem to make a popping noise when making a left or right hand turn. I have to apply brakes at a far distance to prevent from running into other vehicles. The problem has existed for awhile and noted to service dealership on numerous occasions. In addition, noise can be heard from the gas tank when braking. You can hear the gas shaking from in the tank. This is a concern when transporting passengers in the rear compartment. Don't know if the tank will eventually explode or ignite a fire.

Abs light and traction control light illuminates. Stopping distance has increased along with brake pedal vibrating when brakes applied. Two front rotors were warped and glazed and will be replaced. Brakes will be serviced for fourth time within two months, and the problem has progressed. Please provide more information.

Ongoing- from date of purchase fails to stop even after brakes replaced. Ust use brights in order to have any visibility from headlights.

Front brake rotors become warped every 5,000 to 8,000. . . This is the third set of rotors I have gone through since 2002. There is heavy vibration in the steering wheel when braking. I constantly have to keep having the rotors cut. Mitsubishi said this is "normal".

I have taken my Galant to the dealer for service 6 times in the last 2 yrs. For service on the rotors. After the accident, I took the car in again. They checked the car and said that there was no problem with the brakes, however the area rep. Stated that the rotors are warped, but that is normal and does not effect the brakes.

Vehicle is just 9 months old, and was told that vehicle needed rotor turning. Consumer had been complaining about handling of vehicle since purchasing it in November, 2000.

I have had problem after problem. . . Had rotors replaced 3 mos after purchase, complained of violent shaking numerous times. I was told this was b/c I had "after factory" wheels that were too big for my car. I learned to live with it. The next thing to occur was a loud noise while driving coming from front end wheels. In June of 2001, I had an a/c idler pulley replaced for $150. As soon as I drove away, the noise presented again. I finally gave up on sitting at the dlrshp for 3 hrs w/a 3 yr old, so I've learned to live with it. . . Yet again. The noise still persists as of 2/02. In may of 2001, I began experiencing electrical problems. To date I've had all recalls svcd. Upon the start of my car, the sunroof, lights, anything power, radio, etc. , were not in function. I noticed this the first time after pulling away. Numerous times thereafter (2x in rain) I started to pull out and turn on my w/shld wipers to realize nothing worked. My temp. Fix was to shut off the car and restart again. . . Praying. As of late. . . I have had my e brake light luminated for about 2 months, for no reason. My oil lamp light would come on here and there. When starting my car now, sometimes my radio will be "on" but, won't start working and will eventually come in from the back spkrs up to the front. The other temp fix I've found when things aren't working, is to turn the key slightly back toward me and it turns things on. On top of all this. . . My black weather stripping on top of my car has flown off (clips broke) this happened the first cold w/end of Dec 2001. W/in 2 days, both flew off while I was on the hwy. I had to pull off to removed the remainder. And getting to the last but not least stuff. . . One day last week, my locks would not stayed in the locked position. I would lock all, reverse, turn, do anything and they would unlock themselves, miraculously, the next day it stopped. As of last night, my door ajar lamp is on and remains on & my dome lights -will not shut off.

While driving at a high speed and stepping on brake pedal will feel brake rotors pulsating and vibration in steering wheel. Brakes pads and rotors had been replaced a 1000 miles.

Rotors have been replaced twice. Second time coming five months after first one. Contacted dealer.

Rotors showed at least 6 radial cracks spaced around rotor.

Brakes rotors defective.

At 41,500 miles I had a basic front brake job performed on my car due to the steering wheel shaking severely while braking. Approximately 6 months later I had the rotors resurfaced due to the steering wheel shaking severely while braking. Approximately 7 months after that I had the rotors resurfaced again due to the steering wheel shaking severely while braking. I have contacted Mitsubishi for reimbursement to have this problem fixed and they stated that they will not since it is not a "safety issue". It is. How can Mitsubishi say this isn't a "safety issue"? what do I need to do to get a recall for this problem so that lives don't have to be lost?.

Rotors were defective when applying brakes vehicle vibrated/ front ends was misaligned. And tires warped. Consumer took vehicle to t dealership four or more times.

Rotors keep warping, had replaced them twice.

Rotors always seem to be re-cut. And resurfaced every year!.

Vehicle been experiencing on-going problem with brake pedal feeling spongy and vehicle vibrating when brake pedal is applied. Also, causing intermittent delay in stopping distance. This condition almost caused several vehicle accidents. Vehicle been in / out of dealer shop on three occasions, and had rotors replaced, problems still occurring.

Front brake rotors were replaced on twelve occasions. When applying brakes at highway speed steering wheel and brake pedal would vibrate severely. Problem still occurring. Feel free to provide any further information.

I leased a 1999 Mitsubishi Galant on Aug 30, 1999, two weeks later I took my car back because of hearing grinding and scrubbing noises when applying my brakes, I was told by a rude service manager that it was brake dust so all they did was clean it out which was a lame excuse, I have been driving and owned cars for more than 15 years, a couple of weeks later the same thing again I was told it was brake dust, about a month after that I made an appointment and went in again and was told I needed rotors and began to tell how much it costs, I argued that point because it is a lease so then they replaced the rotors. I have replaced rotors and/or brakes pads at least every 3000 to 5000 miles since then because I just did not have the time to play the dealers games. It gets so bad that I have to pump the brakes every time and the front end of the car vibrates like it is falling apart especially going down hill, have to start pumping the brakes at the top of the hill in order to stop safely. And to top that off, I called to make an appointment to take my car in again last summer and the dealership has gone out of business. This has gone on wasting my money for over three and a half years, in January of this year I had an accident because of my brakes, I did not have ample time to apply the brakes when another driver pulled out in front of me, thankfully no one was hurt, I had three thousand dollars worth of damage. My question is why does this go on, why has Mitsubishi not recalled these cars to correct the problem or are they not able to correct it? do they not have the proper knowledge to locate and correct the problem? does someone have to be seriously injured or killed before someone at Mitsubishi gives a damn about the poor construction and possible inadequate parts used in the braking system of these cars?? from what I am able to find out these problem still exist even on the brand new Galant's, what is the deal??.

Problems with the vehicle started two days after purchase, they rotated the rotors on the brakes. Since that time I have had the vehicle back seven different occasions. They have replaced the rotors, rotated, you name it and it is still not corrected. I have a three year old daughter that I am scared to death to ride in the car. The dealer has been unresponsive and extremely nasty to us. The owner of the dealer hung up on my wife yesterday. The service manager screamed at me today, and said we have done all we can. They won't return phone calls. I have contacted corporate Mitsubishi and they say they will work on the problem. I just completed the paper work for the lemon laws in maryland. I need help with making sure no one else buys a lemon from the dealer, and they don't stand behind their cars. Please assist me, in anyway you can. Thank you in advance for your time.

Front rotors keep warping after 3,000 miles to 5,000 miles , dealer has replaced rotors 5 times with same design.

Rotors have been replaced twice and turned twice. Dealer advised Mitsubishi rotors are bad and that if I replaced the rotors with after market rotors problem would cease.

Upon deliver of vehicle, rotors were warped. Mjs.

Brake rotors and pads failed causing the brakes to pulsate when consumer applies the brakes.

Front rotors require resurfacing approx. Every 7,000 miles. Front brakes also lose stopping efficiency when rotors are warped. This appears to be a safety related design defect justifying a recall.

Since purchase of car in January 1999 I have had 5 repairs done due to vibration upon braking. Each time I was told the rotors were warped. After 12,000 miles Mitsubishi refused to cover the repairs, even though this had been a continuing problem since the purchase of the car.

Brakes vibrate when stopping. Usually occurs when stopping from a higher speed ie. 55mph. Vehicle has been in shop 4 times and every time the dealer states the problem is with the front and rear rotors. Dealer has resurfaced front rotors 2 times and replaced one time and resurfaced rear rotors.

Front brake rotors needed to be replaced three times in two years because brake padding had been changed. Please provide any additional information/attachments.

The rotors experienced failure causing noise. However, two months later replacements were done to the brakes and rotors due to failure. Problem still exist.

Vehicle vibrates when brakes applied. Took to dealer first time complaining about vibration in Dec 1999, less than 6 months after getting vehicle; second time, in March 1999 (rotors found warped, front rotors and pads resurfaced); third time Apr 1999 (rotors warped again, front rotors and rear drums resurfaced); forth time Jun 1999 (rotors warped again, front left & right rotors replaced this time); fifth time, front rotors turned. Electrical problem in oct 1999, all of a sudden no radio, wipers, cigarrette lighter, horn. No problem found by dealer. Now vehicle vibrates even without applying brakes, when reaching 55 mph. Several calls to Mitsubishi customer service have been "cordially" unhelpful, have not had dealer contact us about problem as they promised in October 1999, over a month ago. No longer have any confidence in this vehicle.

Front brake rotors were oblong/misshaped. This caused the steering wheel to shake. Had happened at least twice before. The rotors would be replaced each time & the problem would reappear again.

When the brakes are applied the pedal goes to the floor, resulting in extended stopping distances, causing a collision. The dealer has replaced the front brakes and turned the rotors.

While driving at any speed consumer has noticed vibration coming from front end. Consumer believed that vibration was causing front brake rotors to wear excessively. Vehicle has been at dealer to have brake rotors replaced, and twice to have brake rotors resurfaced. Vehicle is currently at dealer for a fourth visit. Please provide any further details.

The brakes vibrate and shimmy. They start to squeal. We have had the car back 4 times and every time its the same thing. I am afraid they will just go out alltogether.

Replaced brakes twice replaced rotors once brakes still pulsating, horn was replaced, transmissing slams into gear.
