Nissan Altima owners have reported 230 problems related to air bag not deploy (under the air bag category). The most recently reported issues are listed below. Also please check out the statistics and reliability analysis of Nissan Altima based on all problems reported for the Altima.
Air bag light suddenly started to flash. Dealer indicates the sensor inside the seat is defective. $1500. 00+ to replace. Until it is fixed the airbag will not deploy in an accident for any passenger regardless of weight. I checked online and several others have reported this issue.

I was on my way to work on 412 in between salem ar and viola ar when my passages back wheel welds broke, which caused me to loose control of my vehicle. Which caused me to drive through a fence and hit a tree. And that's when my air bags did not deploy.

Driver side airbags did not deploy at time of accident. Neither steering wheel nor side airbags. Driver, myself, was going with flow of traffic (40-44 mph) on city street on the 2nd lane at 5:30 pm at time of accident. Driver has sustained injuries due to no protection to neck, back, shoulder, arm, wrist, and ankle. No other parties were in vehicle at time of accident.
I took my car to dealership because my passenger air bag light was staying on they did a diagnostic test on it and found out it was the air bag unit that was the problem they said if I had someone sit in the passenger seat in the front the airbag would not deploy if I got into an accident I did some research and found out that there was a recall on this for the Nissan Altima in 2016 for the same problem when I talked to someone they said it was not my VIN number all I know is that something needs to be done about this I cannot afford to get this fix when I know that there was a recall on this issue.

The vehicle was totaled and towed away by the insurance company. The dealer was contacted (koeppel Nissan, 74-15 northern blvd, jackson heights, NY, 877-505-6334) and stated that nothing could be done since the vehicle was totaled by the insurance company. Takata recall on August 15, 2017 I was in an accident on my way to work in which I swerved so I wouldn't hit a deer and instead hit a tree damaging the front middle portion of my car which,,,to my surprise,,,, my airbags never deployed and the upper portion of my chest hit the steering wheel . . . After the tow truck company came & got my vehicle ,, my husband took me to the urgent care clinic where they took xrays of my chest finding that it was just severely bruised. . . The car was taken to clydes auto body in salida, CO. Where it was repaired I have all the documents,,, pictures of the damaged car , & hospital receipts & records if required upon reading this complaint. . . Please rsvp ASAP,,, thankyou [xxx] pics of the car damage on my cellphone if needed. Information redacted pursuant to the freedom of information act (foia), 5 u. S. C. 552(b)(6).
My Nissan Altima was in a 4+ rollover at @65 mph, west bound on I-8 near boulevard California about dawn and just east of sandiego . When a sudden rain downburst, the car hydroplaned and left the road and proceeded to roll 4+ times. I have yet to see the accident report. The front driver and passenger airbags did not deploy and neither did the driver side door bags. The passenger side door bags deployed but the passengers do not recall them airing up. Usaa has the vehicle in sandiego somewhere. I feel the passenger side and driver side airbags should have deployed in a multiple side rollover. . . . The occupants were at huge risk but for the grace and hands of god, they walked away, though I feel that the chp should have forced a 4 young adults to go to the hospital, instead everyone leaving the scene after gathering luggage and such. Injuries are unknown, but typical of being rolled at high speed numerous times, being shaken, bruised, skeletal alignment disrupted etc. . .

Purchased 4/2017 brand new. July 1st, notice the airbag sensor light is on on the instrument panel, take it in; they replace a sensor, didn't fix, replace another sensor, light goes off. In August, the vehicle again has the light on, take it back to dealer; they replace the first sensor (the one that wan't bad) and the light goes off. However I am told that the tech thought it may be a wiring harness issue; "lets see if this corrects it"; since the airbag won't deploy if the sensor is bad!! December 19th; driving in a snowstorm, the light comes on again. Since it's a safety issue to drive it as without the sensor; the airbag will not deploy. So here we are third time to go out; and it seems like wiring shoudl have been looked at first.
My car airbag light on my dash board is flashing. I have contacted the dealer see if there has been a recall and they have said no. They told me to bring the car in to be evaluated. However, I was told that the air bag will not deploy if there is an accident.

The contact owned a 2006 Nissan Altima. The owner stated that the vehicle was operated by her daughter's boyfriend with the daughter in the vehicle as a passenger. While traveling 35 mph, the driver made a turn and collided into a guardrail. The air bags failed to deploy. A police report was filed. The driver sustained substantial bruising to the left knee and required x-rays. The passenger sustained a cut to the front of the forehead from hitting and shattering the windshield, which required x-rays and an mri. The passenger also sustained internal bruising and whiplash to the neck and spine. The police had the vehicle towed to a police impound towing lot. The vehicle was destroyed. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure and stated that it was not their concern and nothing could be done to assist. The dealer was not contacted or made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 154,000.

2015 Nissan Altima was involved in an accident on 12 June 2017. While traveling on interstate, approximately 70 mph traffic came to a complete and sudden stop. The front of the vehicle sustained major damage to the front of the vehicle. The front was crushed back about a foot. None of the airbags deployed in this accident. Luckily there were no serious injuries other than seat belt bruises. Insurance adjuster stated he was very surprised air bags did not deploy. The vehicle is being held pending investigation by Nissan. I believe the NHTSA should investigate also before someone is seriously injured or killed.
Takata recall while stopped on a busy street waiting to make a left hand turn, I was rear-ended by a large SUV. My airbag did not deploy and I suffered severe pain to my head, neck, shoulders and back. My Altima was later declared a total loss as a result of the accident.

Takata recall I was in a an accident as a passenger, we struck a tree head on and the passenger side airbag failed to deploy I was partially ejected through the windshield and suffered life threatening injuries as result.
The light indicating a person is in the passenger seat does not operate all the time. The dealer has programed it twice. The dealer is frustrated as they have several other customers with the same problem. The dealer asked me to contact Nissan directly which I did. I was told today by a specialists from Nissan that I have to bring the vehicle in when it is doing it, I explained it is an intermittent problem and I would be more than happy to leave the vehicle with the dealer. She informed me this was not acceptable that I have to bring it in when it is not operating properly. I guess she could not comprehend the fact that it is an intermittent problem, most likely due to a faulty t passenger side sensor in the seat. The passenger weights is around 120 pounds so she is heavy enough for the sensor to pickup her weight. I am concerned that the air bag might not deploy during an accident. Most of the time when the vehicle lights acts up is when we first start out. There is no set pattern to create this problem, might be ok for a week or two then could do it two or three days in a row and maybe go out by it self. This has been happening for several months, maybe close to a year.
The contact owns a 2014 Nissan Altima. While at a stop sign, the contact looked both ways. Upon accelerating, a truck crashed into the front driver's side of the contact's vehicle. The air bags deployed with extreme force for the front driver and passenger side. The curtain side air bags did not deploy. The driver's left eye was damaged, which affected the cornea, and the driver also sustained bruising across the chest and back pains. The front passenger sustained bruising to the arms, chest, and hips. The driver and front passenger received medical treatment. The insurance company towed the vehicle to a yard. A police report was filed. The vehicle was not inspected to determine the air bag issue. The manufacturer was later notified of the crash. The approximate failure mileage was 46,000.
Vehicle was moving on a city street when it was hit on the driver side door by another vehicle. Side air bags did not deploy after recent recall work regarding srs was performed. Please see attached documentation.
The contact owns a 2006 Nissan Altima. While driving approximately 35 mph and veering left, the contact's vehicle was impacted on the front passenger side by an oncoming vehicle. Takata recall. On November , 12 2016, I took my 2010 nissian Altima into griffin nissian¿s dealership to have my vehicle looked at due to an airbag light coming on the day prior, while in motion. It's still on parked also. It never goes off. After taking my vehicle in a service advisor called me and stated that the problem is a sensor inside the passenger seat has gone bad and would need to be replaced. I asked was that covered under the manufacture and he advised me that he wasn¿t sure. He advised it would be an estimated cost of around $600. 00 dollars to repair the sensor. I then research the issue about the sensor, and my research showed that several vehicles have already been recalled for the same issue. I contacted nissian manufacture. And I explain the problem my car had and they advised me that someone would view the case and contact me back. The next day someone from nissian manufacture contacted me and advised I would have to take care of the airbag issue at my own expense. I stated to them that this isn¿t a part that has normal wear and tear and should be backed by the manufacture and I express how that sensor not working correctly could cause my family and I harm if we were to get into a motor vehicle accident and the airbags fail to deploy. I bought my vehicle from griffen nissian on 10-15-2014, the car was used, and however I take my vehicle to griffen nissian every time its need to be service and to have routine oil changes.
The contact owns a 2015 Nissan Altima. While driving 65 mph, the contact struck a deer. The front driver and passenger air bags failed to deploy. There were no injuries sustained in the crash. The vehicle was previously repaired per NHTSA campaign number: 16v244000 (air bags); however, the failure was experienced in the crash. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 27,277. The VIN was not available.
Car was involved in one front end and two rear end accicdents over the years all requiring extensive body and bumper repair. In all cases the air bags did not deploy. The vehicle was moving at the speed limit with the front end accident and at a slow speed approaching a traffic signal and other vehicles with the rear end incidents. Direction was straight in all cases on local streets not highways. Last incident is noted in "when did thid happen" data. Seems unlikely that the bags would not have deployed ever. In light of the takata recall and other airbag system on/off problems with nearly every manufacturer I am concered with the safety of this vehicle. Mention of this over the years was met with dismisal by repair shops and manufacture's dealer service department. How safe is this vehicle?.

I was in an accident and the air bags did not deploy. My children and I were injured. I serviced my car at Nissan for the airbag recall twice. I received a recall from NHTSA and Nissan wouldn't comply. Every time I've taken my car for the brake pads to be serviced I only need rotors never brake pads! the driver side door handle broke for no reason what so ever this car is a clunker!.
I was driving through a green light northbound. A truck driving eastbound hit me on the drivers side of car twice resulting in my vehicle facing east bound. Airbags did not deploy in a car accident.

I was in a accident where I hyroplanned and the back end hit a ditch and my car went onto the median on the freeway and I totaled my car and the airbags did not deploy.
I brought my car to royal palm Nissan for a recall on the hood latch and told them to check the OCS light that went on intermittently even though there was a passenger seated. This was before the recall notice. I received the OCS recall and went to coral 'springs Nissan. I returned a week later because the light remained on for 17 minutes a few days later while driving with an adult passenger. I was told it could not be checked because the light was not on then. If the light goes on intermittently, then my passenger is not safe in case of an accident as the airbag will not deploy. What can be done?.
