37 Automatic Transmission problem

Failure Date: 03/15/2011

I purshased a 2005 Nissan Maxima 3. 5se and right arounf the 86k mile mark, the transmission started jerking during upshifting & downshifting of gears. After taking the vehicle to the local dealership, it was recommended that I do a trans. Flush & that would solve the issue. After a couple days, it was back to the same jerking during shifting of gears. I brought the vehicle back and was told that I needed to replace the transmission and it would cost me over $3000. 00. The customer service was horrible and I was told I should have taken better car of the vehicle. After doing my research, I found that the Nissan Maxima years 2004/2005 had major transmission flaws. I contacted a very good friend, who's brother worked at a Nissan dealership, and was told that I had a lemon! the transmissions in those 2 years had a lot of problems and they were constantly reparing them. I am filing this complaing because I believe that a manufacturer should stand behind their product 100%. I work for a corporate car company and have never had to deal with this. I have received no help from the dealerships nor the corporate.

52 Automatic Transmission problem

Failure Date: 02/05/2011

I purchased my 05 Nissan Maxima with 60800 miles from a Nissan dealer. At about 70000, the transmission began to show signs of costly repairs. The transmission jerks very hard when shifting from 1st to 2nd grear and then when slowing down from 2nd to 1st. Just shifting from p to d at times there is about a 3 - 4 second delay then engages to only here and feel a very hard clunk and jerks really hard again. With all the hard shifting the motor mounts are probably going to wear out prematurely too. After going online and reading so many other 04 - 05 Maxima transmission issuse with the same symptoms around the same milage. I am convinced this is a factory defect.

61 Automatic Transmission problem

Failure Date: 01/01/2011

2005 Nissan Maxima is having jerking/slamming shifting problems from park to drive to reverse, and back, etc. Not smoothly shifting into gears besides the jerking. Already told by Nissan to replaces mounts and fluid, and have done so and expensive for that. . . But still having problem and I've ready many, many forums on various websites of people having the same problems and many having to replace transmission. The dealership I use for service told me my transmission as well may need replacement after spending a lot of money already. I thought Nissan was a reliable car and I understand that this transmission problem an replacement is happening from 60,000 to 100,000 - this should not be and Nissan should step up and rightfully put a recall on this transmission. My understanding is that Nissan is not doing anything. This is a safety issue because if this jerking or hestitation problem continues while driving, as many owners have reported, it can cause an accident not only on a local street, but definitely on the highway. This complaint form is asking at what speed and I can't put a number on that - when park to drive or reverse, not much, when hesitating or feeling roughness/shifting while driving it varies in the speeds - a safety issue, and recall issue to be looked at. Nissan - do the right thing.

62 Automatic Transmission problem

63 Automatic Transmission problem

Failure Date: 12/24/2010

2005 Nissan Maxima powertrain went out in 2007 and I replaced it and was told this is something that Nissan is aware but have not released a kit to fix it. It is Dec 26, 2010 and the replacement transmission went out Dec. 24, 2010. This car has had hard shifting and I have been told the mounts need to be replaced in response to the hard shifting just 3 weeks ago. ! I am not fixing this car again. In 2007 I called Nissan and filed a complaint and nothing was done. The NHTSA has to get involved. The car stopped shifting while my little car was in the car with me on the road. We were almost slammed from behind but the driver behind me swerved in time. Please, please do make Nissan do something about this. I now have a 35,000 dollar piece of junk sitting in my driveway and I have to go purchase another car. I will be filing a suit!.

64 Automatic Transmission problem

Failure Date: 12/06/2010

I filed a complaint about my 2005 Nissan Maxima #10357629 -9/25/10. The situation was the transmission and not mentioned the timing chain. The transmission shut down ; stopped ; failed ; ceased to function fri. Nov /12 /10 @ 5;00 pm during rush hour in the center of the busiest freeway in my area leaving me thankful to god and the riverside cty. Freeway service patrol with which I filled out a survey #217446 their # 951 369-3691. Accidents were behind me somewhere the two driver said I was fortunate to not suffer injury and damage. The Maxima cost of repair to Nissan's product is over $ 6,000. 00. The Maxima has only 77,435 miles. These are electrical and mechanical defaults and there are scores of owners reporting similar to identical experiences about their Maxima cars from 2004 through 2007. I find it hard to believe that NHTSA haven't recognized this as a dangerous situation. Why don't the people that buy these products in good faith get the backing of the NHTSA. There are recalls on windshield wipers and small things like that- that anybody can replace within twenty dollars but this is a substantial problem, this is money for paying rent for months, this is the cost of surgery to keep a working person ambulatory, this is a call for help, a call to keep some of the profits of foreign corporations at home . This is when the force of the NHTSA's authority should seemingly come to the forefront demanding they stand behind their products as safe and trustworthy and certainly not a vehicle doing sixty miles an hour during rush hour coming to a dead stop with vehicles pealing to all sides in all directions desperately avoiding collisions and personal injury as well as injury to others and destruction of property. Here I was sitting there eyes shut tight waiting for the slam of some vehicle into mine that refused to budge. I felt like I was in the midst of committing suicide without being able to prevent it. Like a nightmare, some evil occurrence descending. Help!!!.
