1 Automatic Transmission Torque Converter problem

Failure Date: 07/01/2011

The contact owns a 2005 Nissan Maxima. The contact stated that the vehicle would shift hard when shifting between first and second gears or when decreasing speed. Neither the dealer nor the manufacturer was notified of the failure. The vehicle was taken to private mechanic who informed the contact that the torque converter had failed and needed to be replaced. The vehicle was awaiting repairs. The current mileage was 92,400 and the approximate failure mileage was 89,000. The was unavailable.

2 Automatic Transmission Torque Converter problem

Failure Date: 10/25/2010

The problem first appeared with hard, almost violent jerking when shifting gears. Not too long after that started, I was driving on the freeway when the transmission ceased and I had to limp it off to the side of the road and be towed. The transmission, torque converter and motor mounts had to be replaced. The motor mounts were broken from the hard shifting. It was out of warranty by six months. From the countless number of complaints that I have seen, Nissan equipped this model year (and 2004) with a defective transmission yet they will not take responsibility for the repairs by issuing a recall. Total cost to repair was $3,559.
