1. Turbo actuator / dealer is currently replacing the defective part. 2. When this part fails, you lose throttle control and acceleration capabilities. This part failed on me at highway speeds, and I had to drift over several lanes of high-speed traffic. I was unable to control the speed of my vehicle, with no ability to accelerate. 3. Not sure if they duplicated or are replacing the part solely by the check engine code of p00ah dtc (check engine code). 4. It is a known issue with Nissan, and they have extended warranty coverage for 2016 and 2017 model year Titans with the diesel motor, but have refused to address it with the 2018 model, even with the same symptoms and dtc. 5. No, when the failure occurred, the check engine light came on, and the truck lost power. Occurred around September 25, 2025, mileage is 61,489. A claim was filed with Nissan north America under case # 55882533, and they have denied to cover the repair.

Check engine light went on and the truck went into low power mode. Took it to an independent service center and it was no longer throwing the code. It happened a couple more times, took it to the dealership and the diagnostic was: setting in ecm. , actuator is binding causing dtc and vehicle to go into reduced power mode. This seams to be a very common issue in Nissan Titan xd's. Maybe should be a recall? a very pricy repair for a vehicle that only has 45000 miles on it.
There is a known issue by Nissan regarding many issues with the xd diesel platform trucks. Mine is a castrophic engine failure at 76,237 miles. There was a recall previously on turbos for many 2016s & 2017s. One is not showing up for mine and as I bought the truck used can not confirm or deny my truck was one effected by this recall. I was driving and heard a light thump and had just had my tires rotated. It sounds like a tool or piece of rubber was inside the tire. I got out and made sure tires were on tight. Got back in the truck and got an engine loss of power warning and then the "oil pressure low stop vehicle" warning. I immediately pulled over and called insurance company for a tow. My truck now sits at the dealership needing a new motor and 2 turbos to the estimated cost of $39,850.
The contact owns a 2016 Nissan Titan. The contact stated that the low fuel pressure message was displayed, and the vehicle failed to start after several attempts. The contact stated that the failure was related to emissions recall: pd128. The contact stated that the vehicle was towed to the local dealer, where the engine was replaced, but the failure recurred. The dealer informed the contact about additional diagnostic testing. The manufacturer was contacted, who opened a case, but no additional assistance was provided. The approximate failure mileage was 83,000.
Engine failure. On rural highway with recreational traffic, engine started rattling, within 5 seconds the engine shut off, luckily I was able to get on the shoulder. My truck is currently at a repair facility 300 miles from my home. Waiting on information from shop and extended warranty company. No warning lights whatsoever.
I was droving down the road with the cruise control set at 70mph, when all of the sudden the engine lost power and stopped. It did not have a check engine light or anything on the dash to indicate that there was a problem. I coasted to the edge of the road where I attempted to restart the vehicle, but it would not even turn over. I had the vehicle towed to a repair shop where I was informed that they engine was locked solid. The mechanic suspects that they crankshaft is broken, but the entire engine will need to be replaced.
My 2018 Nissan Titan has suffered two engine failures within two years, with fewer than 37,000 miles on the vehicle. Despite following all scheduled preventive maintenance, the engines failed catastrophically. One of these failures occurred with my family in the vehicle, placing their safety at serious risk. Details: the first engine failure happened at approximately [30,000], and the second at around [37,000], both requiring full engine replacements. These were not minor issues — they were sudden, complete losses of engine power. The second failure was especially dangerous, occurring while driving with my family onboard. Despite clear signs of a major defect or systemic issue, Nissan has refused to take responsibility, treating these catastrophic events as if they are routine, isolated failures. I followed all required maintenance schedules, and the vehicle was well cared for. Nissan’s lack of accountability is unacceptable and deeply disappointing. Based on this experience and their failure to stand behind their product, I will not purchase another Nissan vehicle and cannot recommend the brand to others. I am submitting this report to urge the NHTSA to investigate this issue as a potential safety and manufacturing defect that could affect more owners and put more families at risk.
Truck died driving at highway speed, towed vehicle to Nissan dealership, and was quoted at or above 30 thousand dollars in repairs related the dreaded cp4 fuel pump system that has failed on the truck that only had 134,000 miles.
Dear sir/madam masked oil pressure warning in 2016 Nissan Titan xd (5. 0l) I am writing to report a concerning and potentially dangerous defect observed in a 2016 Nissan Titan xd equipped with the 5. 0l cummins v8 diesel engine. As a Nissan master technician with extensive experience in vehicle diagnostics and repair, I believe this specific defect could be a contributing factor to the well-documented crankshaft breaking condition prevalent in these vehicles, which NHTSA is currently investigating. The specific issue I have identified and thoroughly documented on my own 2016 Nissan Titan xd is as follows: observed defect: the engine oil pressure gauge consistently reads "normal" (approximately 1/2 scale) at all times, including with the key on, engine off (koeo). Crucially, the corresponding oil pressure warning light does not illuminate during the normal key on, engine off bulb check or at any other time, despite the engine not running. Diagnostic findings (summary): preliminary diagnostics, including unplugging the oil pressure sensor, indicate a likely fault with the oil pressure sending unit itself, causing it to send a false "normal pressure" signal. This specific sensor defect fundamentally compromises the vehicle's critical oil pressure monitoring system. ( the engine is running ok, no other symptoms) potential safety implications and link to crankshaft failure: this defect creates an immediate and severe safety risk because it completely masks any actual low oil pressure condition that the engine may develop. Documentation: I have well-documented photographic evidence of the current occurrence described condition (gauge reading, non-illuminated warning light koeo) which I can provide upon request to support this report. I urge the ntsb to include this specific oil pressure sensor/warning system defect in its ongoing investigation into the 2016 Nissan Titan xd 5. 0l cummins engine failures sincerely, [xxx] Nissan master technician ase-1104-7529 information redacted pursuant to the freedom of information.
My vehicle spun a bearing, or broke the crankshaft in two, there is tons of metal in my oil, oil pan, and oil filter. The shop that is diagnosing it, and quoting me a new motor, said they have replaced at least 7 Titan xd cummins motors, and every single forum and person online that owns one reports the crank shaft breaking. Nissan or cummins needs to be held responsible for this. And the NHTSA needs to put their foot down and actually protect american consumers. They sold these trucks for at minimum 40k and the motors all blow up around 100k miles? absolutely disgusting that they can get away with this. What do expect in America I guess.
Was driving to work and engine had hiccup and almost shutoff in middle of roadway. Was able to limp truck to my destination. Engine was running rough. No fault codes or dash lights to indicate any issues. Took truck to shop and they could not figure it out. Had service shop drain oil and inspect oil filter. Metal debris was found in oil and oil filter. Had engine removed from truck and found 3 spun main bearings, crankshaft possibly broken.
Driving down the road, motor locked up due to crankshaft. Unable to control or restart vehicle.
V8 endurance engine has a known defect with scaring of cylinder 7 causing knocking in the engines and engines replacements. I purchased this Titan brand new in 2017. It required a brand new engine at 18,000 miles that was covered by the warranty. That engine developed another knock that required another engine replacement at 89,000 miles. Initially Nissan refused to cover as the truck was more than 5 years old even though the miles were well below 100,000 manufacturer warranty. I have found that these are bad engines that dealership is continue to install in these trucks even knowing that it could develop another knock. Other engine manufacturers refused to work on these engines due to this known defect. Nissan has thus far refused to recall this engine. The replacement cost is $18,000 without warranty.
Engine made a loud popping noise, shuttered and stalled in heavy traffic, I came within inches of being rear-ended. Required a tow truck. Repair shop informed me that the crankshaft is broken and this is a common problem. Being repaired at this time, I am informed this will cost about twenty thousand dollars. Thank you Nissan!.
Component turbocharger, power train safety vehicle would not restart so was stranded on highway unknown if others have had similar issues components have not been examined at this time but are available warnings, 1st check engine, 2nd power reduced, 3rd engine was dead going uphill on the interstate, the check engine light came on. I then observed the turbo boost climbing to 30 psi, dark smoke coming out of the exhaust, and white smoke. I was attempting to pull over while this happened. When I got to the shoulder of the road , the vehicle was disabled, and coolant was pouring out of the overflow onto the ground. The vehicle needed to be towed to great falls, where it is awaiting repair. Vehicle is still not running at this time.
2019 Nissan Titan xd diesel 153,700 miles. Driving 70-75mph on texas highway and felt a vibration when I pressed on the gas pedal. Started moving over to exit due to power loss when a slight puff of smoke came out. I pulled over in a safe area and shut the truck off. There were no warning lights on the cluster. When I stepped out a small puddle of oil had already started to form under the truck. Open the hood and the passenger side engine compartment was covered in oil. I noticed oil formed on the license plate and was dripping out of the exhaust pipe. Oil had dripped off the under carriage from front to back, large amount formed under the vehicle after sitting for 1hr. We towed the vehicle to the local Nissan dealer and the result was a broken crank and possible transmission failure. I have reach out to Nissan corp to file a complaint as well. This vehicle has never experienced any significant issues, Nissan had no history prior to my reporting today. I have owned the vehicle since 2019 when I purchased it with 6k miles on it. Nissan has quoted me $32,660. 63 for repairs (engine/trans replacement), this is almost what I purchased the vehicle for in 2019.
The contact owns a 2016 Nissan Titan. The contact stated while driving 35 mph, the vehicle stalled. The contact was able to pull into a nearby parking lot. The check engine warning light was illuminated. The vehicle was able to restart and was driven to the residence. The vehicle was taken to the dealer, where it was diagnosed that the turbocharger had failed and needed to be replaced. The dealer informed the contact, that the dealer was not certified to repair the vehicle. The vehicle was not repaired and was towed to lorenzo Nissan (30501 s dixie hwy, homestead, FL 33030); where the same assessment was provided. The dealer informed the contact that the manufacturer had denied the extended warranty coverage. The vehicle was repaired at the owner's expense. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 34,859. The VIN was not available.
The truck has a broken crankshaft with only 80,000 miles on it an Nissan is aware of the defect in the engines an will not cover any repairs.
Alternator harness is defective in my 2019 Nissan Titan. My truck has stalled on me twice while running and my air conditioner compressor has stopped working and radio is not working properly, and it is draining my battery, there is a delay when starting my vehicle as if it does not have enough power. I replaced the air conditioner compressor and vehicle battery. After replacing the air conditioner compressor it stopped working after two weeks. I can hear the air conditioner struggling when it is turn on, my radio and back up camera stop working all of sudden as if it is not getting enough power, then it will start working again. Radio turns on and off by itself. My vehicle omits a burnt smell from the engine. A research of the issues with my vehicle I located a recall with similar issues (19v495000) that affected 2017-2019 Nissan Titans.
Highway driving and lost power, started hearing engine rattle. 5. 0l cummins diesel engine crankshaft is broken. Dealer verified it to be crankshaft. Insurance company denied a claim stating the crankshaft was manufacturer defect. Turns out that defective crankshaft was a known issue with the 2016 and 2017 Titan 5. 0l engines that cummins changed it for subsequent years. This should be a recall. I see daily the same issue on forums and groups in the USA. Thousands of us have a dead truck we are paying for in our yards.
Vehicle shut down going down the interstate. After investigating, there’s metal in the oil. Possible spin crankshaft bearing or broken crankshaft.
Driving down the interstate at 65 mph out of the blue crankshaft broke. Massive steering wheel vibration hard to keep under control.
The crank snapped at 180k miles.
The contact owns a 2016 Nissan Titan xd. The contact stated that while driving at 80 mph, the engine seized. There were no warning lights illuminated. There was an abnormal grumbling sound from the engine. The vehicle coasted and came to an abrupt stop. The contact stated that he experienced a catastrophic engine failure. The contact sustained a seatbelt rash and whiplash, but medical attention was not provided. The crankshaft had snapped. The driver was stranded for two hours in the desert. The vehicle was towed to his residence. The local dealer was contacted, who recommended an engine replacement. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The manufacturer was contacted, but no additional assistance was provided. The failure mileage was approximately 180,000.
Crankshaft failure, it broke driving down the interstate and it died mechanic came to my house and diagnosed problem no, it has not been inspected by a manufacturer or anyone else no, there was not any warning lights or any kind of warning whatsoever.
Recently took the truck to get serviced a month ago. Two weeks ago I was coming back home and the motor let out and had a loud banging noise which I assumed to be a bearing or crank shaft failure. Upon getting it to a dealership they inspected it and pulled the oil pan to find metal shavings all in the turbos and oil.
5. 0l cummins engine. Was driving fine then the crank shaft snapped and ruined the engine.
Broken crankshaft.
The dealership said, my crankshaft broke in many places.
