Failure Date: 09/28/2010

Exhaust manifold leaking for the second time. Both sides were replaced under warranty and then 1 year and 8 days later I was told they were leaking again. Nissan refuses to cover under warranty. Exhaust manifold leaking allows exhaust fumes to not be vented correctly and the fumes can come into the cabin of the vehicle. I have spoken with the dealership and also filed a request with the main Nissan corporation.

46 Engine Exhaust System problem of the 2006 Nissan Titan

Failure Date: 09/01/2010

The exhaust manifolds on my 2006 Nissan Titan have cracked, causing toxic exhaust fumes to leak into the passenger compartment. The truck has less than 100,000 miles. I believe this issue to be caused by faulty parts supplied by Nissan.

47 Engine Exhaust System problem of the 2005 Nissan Titan

Failure Date: 08/26/2010

The contact owns a 2005 Nissan Titan. While driving approximately 55 mph, the contact heard a loud noise coming from the rear of the vehicle. The vehicle was taken to an authorized dealer where the technician replaced the rear differential. The repair expense was partially covered under the service warranty and the owner was responsible for the difference. Recently, there was failure with the exhaust system. The vehicle was being repaired, and the contact was unaware of the extent of the repair. The failure mileage was approximately 70,000. Updated 01/13/bf updated 01/24/11.

48 Engine Exhaust System problem of the 2005 Nissan Titan

Failure Date: 08/19/2010

2005 Nissan Titan le had an exhaust tailpipe separation at a weld. The hanger than holds the tailpipe is designed wrong. The weight of the pipe causes the exhaust gases up into the passenger side rear fender melting wires, plastic, and potentially anything in the cargo box area (bed liner melted). The tailpipe was not damaged in any way prior to the incident. I have found many internet forums with the same problem occurring to other Titan owners. I am confident if I would not have noticed the problem earlier and had combustibles in the cargo area, the vehicle would have caught fire. My right turn signal did not work and that is what made me look for the problem.

49 Engine Exhaust System problem of the 2005 Nissan Titan

52 Engine Exhaust System problem of the 2004 Nissan Titan

Failure Date: 06/05/2010

The contact owns a 2004 Nissan Titan. The contact started the ignition and heard a loud ticking noise on the outside of the vehicle. The failure would occur when the vehicle was in motion and during the engine initial start-up. The vehicle was taken to an authorized dealer for diagnosis and they informed that the exhaust manifold exhibited a severe crack. The vehicle was not repaired. The failure mileage was approximately 66,000. The VIN was unavailable.

53 Engine Exhaust System problem of the 2004 Nissan Titan

Failure Date: 05/06/2010

Purchased a 2004 Nissan Titan in April 2010 with 82k on the engine. In may 2010, I brought the truck in for a recall. The vehicle had 82,528 miles on it. The dealer discovered that both exhaust manifolds were leaking and quoted my $1800. 00 for the repair. I now smell a strong odor of exhaust fumes coming into the cab. The fumes cause nausea and headaches. I have contacted Nissan and they refuse to fix the problem. I have researched this topic online and found this to be a very common defect among 2004 thru 2007 Nissan Titans. There has yet to be a recall for this issue. I continually see people reporting this issue on internet forums. This is a known defective part. The leak is also hazardous to the environment. I have reported this issue to the epa as well.

54 Engine Exhaust System problem of the 2004 Nissan Titan

Failure Date: 05/06/2010

I purchased my 2004 Nissan Titan in April 2010, I took the vehicle in for service on may 6, 2010 and was told my exhaust manifolds are leaking. The warranty is 8 yr/ 80k, I have 82k on my Titan. The exhaust fumes leak into the cab causing nausea and dizziness. This is a safety issue. The dealer won't replace them, because they are out of warranty. The replacement cost is $2000. 00.

55 Engine Exhaust System problem of the 2004 Nissan Titan

Failure Date: 03/16/2010

2004 Titan. Connection failed at the flanges welded to the exhaust pipe and the muffler extension at the right rear wheel area. The exhaust pipe and the muffler extension are in good condition. The failure was confined to the flange attachments. Failure resulted in hot air/gases melting a critical wire harness that is attached along the frame beam to carry electrics to the rear of vehicle. The right rear wheel speed sensor was damaged. The wires shorted, causing the failure of underhood electrical componnts. Immediate consequence was the engine shut down with loss of power steering and power brakes and all other components relying on power from the alternator. The experienced driver was able to coast the vehicle to a stop along a busy interstate highway. Long range consequences were the replacement of the Titan's wire bundles and electronic components at considerable cost. Nissan has not, to date, explained why this simple connection failed, why a wire harness was located close to this heat source, why the wire harness was not protected against heat damage, why the electrical damage was not limited by a fuse, why Titan owners were not notified of this potential catastrophic problem and why Nissan dealers did not inspect and notifiy Titan owners of this issue during other routine maintenance at their facilities.

56 Engine Exhaust System problem of the 2004 Nissan Titan

Failure Date: 03/10/2010

Exhaust manifold crack. Exhaust fumes smelled in the cabin.

57 Engine Exhaust System problem of the 2005 Nissan Titan

Failure Date: 02/22/2010

My 2005 Nissan Titan has two cracked exhaust manifolds. They are cracked into two pieces and are allowing carbon monixide to escape from the exhaust system adjacent to the cab of the truck. This is a potentially lethal failure due to CO poisioning. Nissan has been contacted and will not assist with repairs, even though there have been hundreds of similar reported cases. My vehicle is out of the warranty period and I understand Nissan's reluctance, financially, to repair the failure. However, due to the potentially dangerous nature of the designed flaw that caused the failure I believe that a recall is justified. I am very willing to take the steps required to initiate a recall, but I am not sure how to proceed.

58 Engine Exhaust System problem of the 2004 Nissan Titan

Failure Date: 02/21/2010

Exhaust manifold warps after about 80k miles, creating an exhaust leak. If it develops before the 80k mile emissions warranty, it will be covered. Most develop after the warranty. I own an '04 and an '05 Nissan Titan. The '05 exhaust leak was fixed at 78k miles with 1 new exhaust manifold and some crossover piping. The '04 started at 88k miles and the dealership has not helped with the problem with the exception of estimating $1300 to repair.

59 Engine Exhaust System problem of the 2004 Nissan Titan

Failure Date: 11/20/2009

Heard exhaust leak in engine at about 85,000 miles. Manifold leak was confirmed at 101,000 when brought in for a transmission issue. Not covered under warranty. Reviewed many technical forums where the exhaust manifold is being reported as cracked on countless Titans. This is a manufacturer's defect, and the cost should not be relayed to the consumer at a significant dollar amount.

60 Engine Exhaust System problem of the 2004 Nissan Titan

Failure Date: 11/15/2009

My 2004 Nissan Titan rear diff seals leak and has caused a brake failure. I pulled out of my driveway and was driving down the road when all of a sudden my rear end locks up. It took a few moments to get her going again in reverse. I jacked it up and removed the tires and removed the rotors. The pad on the emergency brake system fail off. It still had plenty of pad left on it. My father looked at it and noticed the fluid leaking from my rear end. He told me that probably caused the failure due to the contamination. Replaced the pad and added some oiled to the rear end. I have researched this issue online and found numerous complaints about this and other brake failures also. There should be a recall for this issue. My exhaust manifold leaks also. I am replacing it too. This is a known issue with the Titans. This may be of more concern with the epa. They have been know to crack.

61 Engine Exhaust System problem of the 2005 Nissan Titan

Failure Date: 10/25/2009

The rear exhaust flange broke causing the exhaust pipe to aim into the underside of the truck bed. This has cause melting plastic, rear taillight failure and paint to delaminate from the rear fender.

62 Engine Exhaust System problem of the 2005 Nissan Titan

Failure Date: 08/19/2009

The contact owns a 2005 Nissan Titan. The contact stated that both exhaust manifolds cracked and the contact noticed that the vehicle had become very loud. There was also a fuel odor inside which alerted her to a potential failure. The vehicle was taken to a local mechanic who stated that the manifolds were cracked and would need to be replaced. The vehicle was repaired at a later date. The contact called the manufacturer who offered no assistance. The current mileage was approximately 100,000. The failure mileage was approximately 74,000.

63 Engine Exhaust System problem of the 2004 Nissan Titan

Failure Date: 05/10/2009

The contact owns a 2004 Nissan Titan. While driving approximately 30 mph, the contact heard a clicking noise and smelled exhaust fumes inside of the vehicle. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic where they informed the contact that the exhaust manifold was cracked. The vehicle was not repaired. The exhaust fumes progressively became worse over a period of time. The manufacturer was not made aware of the problem. The failure mileage was approximately 50,000. The VIN was unavailable.

64 Engine Exhaust System problem of the 2005 Nissan Titan

Failure Date: 02/11/2009

2005 Nissan Titan exhaust flange at exhaust tip failure this caused the rear wire harness to burn up and the rear abs to fail. Very dangerous situation.

65 Engine Exhaust System problem of the 2005 Nissan Titan

Failure Date: 02/10/2009

. . Rear axle seal leaking for a second time in about (30,000 miles first time, now 67,000 miles and leaking again) . . Exhaust manifold cracked (has catalytic converter attached) . . 4 trips to dealer to repair leak on front differential (30,000 miles) . . Half shaft came out while driving. (34,000 miles) truck has 67,000 miles. Nissan does not seem to care since it is out side of the warranty despite the well known issues???.

66 Engine Exhaust System problem of the 2004 Nissan Titan

Failure Date: 10/20/2008

I have had an odd exhaust sound from my Nissan Titan for over 18 months. When I finally took it into the dealer both exhaust manifolds were cracked and repairs cost $1400. 00. I was told a the dealer and at several muffler shops that this is a very common defect due the cast nature of the manifold and the excessive weight of the catalytic converter welded onto the manifold. The replacement part were a new design and the dealer said they will not crack. Since my truck had 105,000 miles on it when the service was done there is no warranty coverage. I feel that this is a design flaw with the 2004 and 2005 Nissan Titan pickups and the cost of repairs should be borne by Nissan and not by the consumer. I am hoping that there will be a class action suite filed on the consumer's behalf either by an individual, the state or the federal government.

67 Engine Exhaust System problem of the 2004 Nissan Titan

Failure Date: 08/25/2008

The vehicle ( a 2004 Nissan Titan) has 30 thousand plus miles, carefully maintained (no salt) and was pulling a 7500 pound boat on PA I-79 when it lost all power, including all lights (including rear and hazard) . This resulted in a fire which totally disabled the entire vehicle. The tail pipe had fallen off and burned dozens of electrical wires. This manufacturing defect has been reported numerous times on the net and to dealers. It should strongly be noted that had the same incident occurred on NY I-90 where there is no safe place to pull off or at night anywhere, many lives would have been lost. This defect must receive immediate attention. Nissan has refused to acknowledge the defect or pay for repairs.

68 Engine Exhaust System problem of the 2004 Nissan Titan

Failure Date: 06/08/2008

The tailpipe fell off of my truck. Resulting in the hot exhaust to be vented onto a rear wiring harness and thus melting it. Along with the melted wiring harnesses, the ecm and mass airflow sensor were shorted out and need to be replaced. This will be over $2000 to fix and will be paid for straight out of my pocket. The warranty does not cover exhaust because it supposedly is a regularly maintained part. This truck is a 2wd model with 305/50x20 wheels/tires , so it obviously is not used for off-road purposes nor has it been used to tow anything. When the tailpipe broke, the truck was being driven down a smooth black top highway and nothing was ran over in the road such as an animal or debris that would cause the tailpipe to fall off. I bought this truck used but with only 30k miles on it and only drove it 1500 miles since purchasing it.

69 Engine Exhaust System problem of the 2005 Nissan Titan

Failure Date: 03/06/2008

Cracks in both (left & right) exhaust manifolds on the same manufacturing weld. Noise increase, loss of fuel econ. Replaced both manifolds at cost of app. $2,000. 00.

70 Engine Exhaust System problem of the 2004 Nissan Titan

Failure Date: 03/01/2008

Exhaust manifold cracked and leaking. Nissan dealership diagnosed problem, but Nissan refused to fix problem. I started before 80k miles, but I didn't know emission's had 80k warranty, Nissan refused to fix at 84k. Loud exhaust noise at start-up and while driving, fumes(carbon monoxide) leaking into cabin when idling in traffic.
