If the vehicle stalls when starting or depressing the clutch too fast, the vehicle will sometimes enter a low power (limp mode), where the driver can floor the accelerator and the car will barely accelerate. The absolutely max speed when this happens seems to be around 55 and it takes 30 seconds to reach this speed. Turning the car off and letting it sit for 15 seconds, and then restarting the car seems to fix the problem. This has happened to me 3 times over the past 2 years.

Loss of power after stalling (manual transmission), vehicle extremely is sluggish and will not accelerate beyond 50 mph. Occurred 6 times over 2 months (since purchase). Usually corrects with complete turn off and restart, though one time it would not reset until the next day, creating hazardous driving conditions.

I was practicing manual transmission on my new Nissan Versa and when I stalled, that check engine light came on and I lost a lot of power in all gears. In first gear, there’s also a whine that goes with it, and I don’t think that’s normal.

My 2024 Nissan Versa has acceleration problems. In less than 24 hours of having the car, when driving and without warning, the power of the vehicle began to decline while I was driving in traffic. It didn't matter how hard I pressed the acceleration the car would continue to power down. This caused cars to honk and swerve to avoid crashing in the back of me. It took many pumps to the accelerator to get the car to power to the speed of traffic again. The car also powers down to nothing intermittently if I am stopped at a red light on in rush hour traffic. Again, I am having to press the accelerator numerous times to get the car to work and with that, there is a jerking feel to it. Also within 24 hours, a service symbol appeared on the dash while driving and then went away within 30mins of driving. I took the vehicle back to the Nissan dealership I purchased it from and they claim they did not find anything wrong.

I was at a stop light and it changed to green. I accidentally stalled the car. I had just picked up the car the day before and had driven manual for many years, but was getting used to the clutch. I immediately restarted the car and started in first gear. The car had lost a lot of power. I then discovered after trying to reach the speed limit of 50, the car was in limp mode. I pulled over and turned the car off for some time before restarting it. After the restart, the car engine power was back to normal. The car has about 120 miles on it and I am seeing many others have reported this issue for the same vehicle make, year, and model. This is very unsafe, especially if entering a highway. There were no lights on or indication advising the car was in limp mode during this event.

While driving on city streets the check engine light came on and I was unable to accelerate or maintain speeds above 30mph. Because the car couldn’t operate at posted speed limits, other vehicles were stuck behind me or had to go around. It was also slow to start at traffic signals. I will be taking the vehicle to the dealer shortly for further diagnosis.

I was taking my 23 Versa m/t to the dealer for its 10. 000 mile service and upon driving the vehicle while pulling away from a stop sign I stall the vehicle and after that there was a significant loss of power, restarting the engine did not help. When I got to the dealership I did not shut the engine off and told them about the issue and said it was a safety issue and did not have the power to get out of the way in a emergencysituation. Unfortunately they claimed they could not duplicate the issue and requested to hold the vehicle for further investigation. Before the vehicle le was stalled there were no warning lamps or check engine lights or any symptoms prior nor any warning lamps on the wa to the dealership while the issue consisted. This problem has happened twice before while my wife was on the way to work and after her shift the vehicle preformed normal.

If vehicle stalls (manual transmission), severe power loss is experienced. It appears that vehicle goes into limp mode if it stalls. Has happened on several occasions. This creates a dangerous situation as it is not possible to move quickly enough to merge, proceed through an intersection, or maintain an adequate speed on the highway.

The contact stated while driving 70 mph with the cruise control activated, the contact approached oncoming traffic and depressed the brake pedal; however, the vehicle continued to surge forward without warning. The contact deactivated the cruise control; however, the failure persisted. The contact was able to pull off to the shoulder of the highway and placed the vehicle in park(p) while the rpm's continued to surge. Upon restart of the vehicle, the rpms became extremely elevated, and the contact immediately shut off the vehicle. The contact opened the hood and reset the throttle sensor; the contact then restarted the vehicle and drove the vehicle home without further issues. The manufacturer was notified of the failure and referred the contact to the dealer for assistance. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The failure mileage was 176,000.

I recently purchased a new 2024 Nissan Versa s with the manual transmission. I am an experienced manual transmission driver; however, I have stalled it 3 times in the last 5400 miles. The following issue appears after stalling and restarting the vehicle. After restarting the vehicle, everything seems normal. There are no warning lights on the dash to show otherwise, however when you begin to accelerate, the vehicle seems to be in some kind of “limp mode”. The vehicle is extremely sluggish and will barely accelerate. The first time this happened I stalled the vehicle in traffic. After restarting the car, I slowly pulled up to the stop bar as I continued to complete a u-turn at a green stop light with oncoming traffic heading my way. I had no knowledge that the vehicle would be in this “limp mode”. This almost caused an accident because the vehicle had very little acceleration and I could not accelerate fast enough to get to the speed limit as oncoming cars quickly approached behind me. I continued to have acceleration problems in multiple gears, so I pulled over, parked the vehicle and shut off the ignition. Upon restarting the vehicle a few minutes later, the slow acceleration issued seemed to go away. This “limp mode” has happened to me 3 times in about 5400 miles. I have been driving manual transmission cars for over 25 years and have never had a vehicle go into “limp mode” simply because I let the clutch out to fast/slow and stalled the vehicle. Stalling out a vehicle with a manual transmission occasionally is normal. Going into limp mode afterwards is not normal and is indicative of a serious safety deficiency within the vehicle. Upon reading the other reports of similar circumstances regarding 2022-2024 Versa’s with manual transmissions, it seems there may a larger safety problem with these vehicles.

When starting my car it started for a second and stalled and when I restarted the car the car started accelerating extremely slow and wouldnt go past 20 mph.

This morning after a "cold start" to drive to work, I entered a primary road that takes me to the interstate. I noticed throttle input seemed "delayed". Once on the interstate while attempting to merge, the car had zero power. Full throttle in third, fourth and fifth gear allowed only 60mph. I drove about two miles to the next exit and made my way back home on secondary roads to my house. Once home, I scanned for dtc's with my scan tool. A p2615 was received, "cam position signal output circuit low" I cleared the code, started back on my drive to work, car performed as expected with no power loss. This is about a 40 mile drive. I have seen complaints of "power loss" after a stall. My cars symptom was after a cold start and no stall.

This 2024 Nissan Versa is a manual transmission purchased new in March 2024. On (3) separate incidents, there was a loss of power after stalling the engine and restarting the vehicle. Incident 1 (5/27/24) - the hill assist failed to disengage causing the vehicle to stall. When I re-started and pulled into traffic, I was unable to gain speed. Downshifting did not solve the problem. The vehicle was operating on lower power and no matter what gear I put it in, it would not speed up. I was not able to reach highway speeds in a timely fashion. It took several minutes to get to the correct speed. (approx. 5-10 mins) incident 2 (6/13/24) stalled in a parking garage in 2nd gear. Once I restarted the engine, there was very little power. I was not able to gain speed to the speed limit. Incident 3 (6/26/24) stalled on a hill again when the hill assist did not disengage fully. Once restarted, there was very little power and I was unable to gain speed. In all 3 incidents, pulling over, shutting off the vehicle, opening the door and closing and allowing the vehicle to rest reset solved the issue. Our safety was put at risk as we were unable to speed up to acceptable levels after stalling and pulling into traffic. Stalling the vehicle happens from time to time but it doesn't always result in loss of power after restart. No warning lights, no audibles occurred. Vehicle will be scheduled for safety check with Nissan. I suspect this might be an electronics/computer malfunction rather than mechanical issue.

"leaking injectors causing cylinder wall wash, resulting in low compression. " per Nissan of chattanooga east. Stated they have seen this before and can be a "common" malfunction. Puts others and self at risk of catastrophic engine malfunction and fuel injector malfunction. Car fire, an engine explosion, or simply breaking down in the middle of the interstate, "repair" occurred and sent home, 2 times. Subsequent followup revealed critical malfunction and requirement to replace engine and necessary components.

Driving down the road, the car enters a phase where you can not accelerate at all. It seems like the fuel injectors are cut off by 90% and you can only accelerate to about 35 mph. It stalls often and feels as if it's struggling to switch gears. It only has 68k miles on it with regular maintenance being done. It is too new to have these problems.

I purchased a 2024 Nissan Versa s 5 speed approx. Two months ago. Upon driving the first week, the engine would rev high in between shifting (not rev hang) and made the vehicle almost impossible to drive smooth. I have been driving manuals for 34 years. I planned on taking the car to the dealer to check when I had time. Then by week two to four, a rattle developed under the shifter adn center console. Lastly, the car went into limp mode for no reason and with no check engine light. I turned the car off and on again. The problem went away. I took the vehicle to the dealer 2. 5 weeks ago and haven't seen the car since. The head mechanic said the problem was a cam sensor and every time he fixed the problem, the car would do the same thing every morning. He also said Nissan was aware of this problem with the manual Versa, and the fix is to "wait". I since discovered I am not the only one and how dangerous this glitch it. Imagine trying to exit on the highway only to go into limp mode. I am scared to drive this car and will not put my family in this car now. I don't even have 3k on the odometer. They also can't find the cause of the loud rattling sound either.

Following an inadvertent engine stall on 04/26/2024, the vehicle unexpectedly entered into an extremely low power state, sometimes refered to as "limp mode". I was unaware of the existence of this issue when I subsequently attempted to merge into traffic. Consequently, I was nearly rear ended by a tractor trailer. An internet search quickly revealed that there are numerous cases of other affected vehicles, all over the us. Additionally, the manufacturer is aware of the potentially deadly malfunction, yet is not inclined to offer any means of resolution according to drivers of other affected vehicles.

Total loss of power. No engine codes stored. Car has very little power you have to floor the gas pedal but still run ok no misses or backfires. Will take forever to get to 40 mph. That is revving motor before shifting manual transmission. Taken to Nissan dealer once no fix. This has happened about 8 times to this car. Dealer had for one week still could not fix it. Could get run over with this issue….

I purchased my 2023 Nissan Versa on December 30th, 2023. Since then I had two incidents occur where the car turned off suddenly while in drive. The first incident occurred April 15th, 2024. As I slowed down to stop at a red light then my engine suddenly shut off and the oil and battery light came on. After panicking for about a minute, I tried turning the car off and then back on again and then it started up and was working like normal with no warning lights. I took the car to the dealership to get it inspected the same day and the Nissan service advisor said that nothing could be diagnosed because there were no warning light. He said that this must've been a fluke because a car that new shouldn't be having that kind of issue. Without running any diagnostics he told me to just drive off and come back if it occurs again. Against my better judgment I listened. On March 22, 2025 the same exact issue occurred again. As I was slowing down to stop at a stop sign, my engine suddenly turned off. I took it to the dealership the next morning they were open and they were unable to replicate the issue after driving it and they couldn't find any error codes in the system after running diagnostics. I opened a case with Nissan consumer affairs after the car was given back to me and they sent out a technician from the district to look at my car. They held my car for 9 days and then gave it back to me because they do not have any resolution for my issue. They also denied my request for a replacement because it doesn't fall into the category of warrantable repairs. This is a huge safety issue. I'm afraid that the car's engine will shut off while I'm on the highway or making a quick maneuver and I will not be able to avoid collision with another vehicle. The car is shutting down suddenly without warning and that can lead to multiple an accident and even death. The car is unsafe to drive and although Nissan acknowledges the issue, they do not have an resolution.

I stalled the vehicle then noticed a little later that my acceleration was greatly reduced. I could not get up to 20 mph with my accelerator pedal all the way pressed while in 3rd gear.

Reduced power after engine stall.

As stated in other complaints to NHTSA, Versa with manual transmission will go into reduced power limp mode after stalling the engine or when prematurely releasing key when attempting to start the engine. The problem will clear (no longer be in reduced power mode) if car is turned off for several seconds or minutes then successfully restarted. Waiting several seconds or minutes to regain full power when stalled in an intersection is impractical thus dangerous. This reduced power issue has occurred numerous times.

The contact stated that he depressed the accelerator pedal however, the vehicle failed to respond as needed. The contact stated no warning light was illuminated. The contact stated that after turning off and restarting the vehicle, the vehicle operated normally. The contact had not taken the vehicle to a local dealer or independent mechanic. The vehicle was diagnosed but was not repaired. The manufacturer was informed of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 400.

On multiple occasions, the vehicle will randomly stall while in motion. Most recently, this occurred while I was on the on/off ramp of one major highway merging onto another highway; in the process of down shifting from fifth gear to third gear, the car stalled, while in motion, causing a complete loss in power steering and braking. I was able to restart the vehicle without incident, however, had I needed to suddenly maneuver or brake I would have been unsuccessful in either of these actions. This has happened more than once, there appears to be no rhyme or reason to this happening, which makes the situation far more variable as there is no way to anticipate or predict its occurrence. On one of these occasions, upon restarting of the vehicle there was a marked decrease in power output from the engine. This made accelerating to driving speeds take far longer than usual, which was an interesting situation as I was pulling into traffic when this occurred. This issue persisted for quite some time, in fact it took the restarting of the engine several times, including a few failed starts, before the proper power returned to the engine.

Although this has happened the whole life of the car 26,000 miles, today I was fed up with it and decided to make it known there is an issue. I've tried different fuel and that did not fix it. As a mechanic myself, I feel there is some kind of programming fault from the factory. I have taken my car into the Nissan dealer and they told me they couldn't find anything wrong and maybe I was using the wrong fuel. I told them the correct fuel was being used. Their technician told me I bought the wrong car for the harsh minnesota environment. That did not please me. Thank you for your time and hopefully you can have a serious talk Nissan about this issue.

Car lost power after stalling and turning it back on.

Vehicle felt underpowered and wouldn’t accelerate only would rev up. Problem went away after turning vehicle off and letting it sit for a bit. Shouldn’t be happening on a 2024 vehicle I got with 0 miles.

Speed control, engine and transmission issues: after the recall from the manufacture was issued for the the acceleration problems this car still takes long to accelerate and get the car going. It feels like the transmission/ and or engine is ready to go out also and this car is only roughly at 80,000 miles. This car is well maintained.

As I was turning my car back on after I stalled, I noticed that it felt very sluggish. As I was approaching the highway I was unable to accelerate to match the speed of the other cars. It was a very dangerous situation. My car has under 5000kms. There were no lights on the dash that warned me this was going to happen.

Turning on my vehicle I had extreme loss of power. I will be taking it to the dealer tomorrow. It would not accelerate past 55 miles per hour when the gas petal was pushed all the way to the floor. When I pulled over and turned the car off the vehicle ran fine with normal power. This is a brand new vehicle with 1000 miles on it. I got it with 3 miles on it.
