Tl- the contact owns a 2012 Nissan Versa. The contact stated that the vehicle hesitated while on an incline and randomly while driving on a roadway. The contact also mentioned that the transmission was slow to change gears between 1st and 3rd gear. The contact had to constantly check the gears to ensure they were changed over. The service engine warning light also randomly illuminated. The vehicle was taken to a repair shop and the mechanic inspected that there was a cvt transmission failure and to take the vehicle to a dealer for diagnosis and repair. The contact was also experiencing a failure in which the distance between the accelerator pedal and brake pedal was causing the contacts foot at times to be trapped between the two pedals and he had to maneuver his feet with the pedals to prevent a failure. The contact was not notified but was included in NHTSA campaign number: 15v507000 (service brakes, hydraulic , vehicle speed control) and was to schedule the recall repair with the dealer concerning the failure. The vehicle was taken to the dealer who stated that the transmission needed to be replaced and the dealer was to further diagnose the vehicle. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 106,000. Dyd.

The service engine light began to go on and off as well as a knocking sound had developed. We had our son, who had attended school to become a mechanic, checked it looking at the oil level. The oil was about a quart low and he advised us to take it to carmax where we had purchased the car. After two diagnostic tests and an oil change at $140. 00, my husband was told that it needed a new engine. It is burning oil and is being emitted out the exhaust and has excessive engine blow by. We have been advised by maxcare, carmax's warranty company, that in order to properly diagnose the problem and determine if it is covered by warranty we have to pay another $400. 00 to have the engine torn down with no guarantee repairs will be covered by the warranty the another $400. 00 to put it back together if it is not fixed. Also, at least 3 times when the service engine light began to turn on and off the Versa stalled while in heavy traffic. We also complained to carmax that the check tires indicator light would go on and off causing us to constantly stop to check the pressure and often it was ok. Carmax offered to run another diagnostic test for more money to try to find out what the problem was. Both problems could cause serious damage in the future and it seems the only way to get it repaired is to pay out of our pocket.

My service engine soon light came on so I dropped by advanced auto parts to have them pull the code. It read as cylinder 4 misfire. I took it in to mcgee auto to have a detailed diagnostic, which indicated that I had a bad coil on one of my spark plugs. I had four spark plugs replaced, an ignition coil changed, and intake manifold resealed; however, after leaving and getting a few miles up the road the ses light came on again. I stopped at another advanced auto to have the code pulled and again it read as a cylinder 4 misfire. I contacted the repair shop and was asked to bring the car back in. They did another full work up and again found everything to be fine. After leaving the shop again the light came on a few miles up the road. This happened repeatedly, and every time they would shut the light off it came back on and remained on. In March under new management, I returned to mcgee auto and they took another look. After posting my symptoms into the computer they noticed that my original plugs had been replaced with aftermarket plugs. They replaced all four plugs and coil, and did something with the fuel injection at no additional cost to me. After leaving the shop a couple miles up the road, the light came on again. I took the car back in on Monday, 3/18. Further research entailed a compression test. Cylinders 1 through 3 had 130% compression, but cylinder 4 only had 70% compression. I was advised that the issue is an engine problem and without tearing it down they are unable to identify the exact cause, but it could have something to do with the piston in cylinder 4. In contacting Nissan, they found that my warranty coverage is for 60,000 miles and unfortunately I was at 66,000. When asking what this really means I was told that I will likely need a new engine or a new car because it would be costly to tear down the engine to find the problem.
