It seems as though everyone that owns a Plymouth Breeze must replace a head gasket. I know this may not be a safety concern in general, but an environmental hazard is apparent. Considering the anti-freeze and oil that is dumped on the ground as a result of this defect. It is a very costly repair to make, and is very common among owners of these cars. Unfortunately, not everyone knows the sources to go through to address these problems. I am bringing it to you in hopes that you will investigate this defect. The average working class family cannot afford to fix these types of defects while damiler Chrysler seems to get away with this obvious problem. No one to my knowledge has died, gotten injured, or crashed due to this defect, but think of the environmental hazards due to this vehicle considering the amount of oil and antifreeze dumped on our highways every day. I would love to see Chrysler held accountable for their actions. Being that my husband must commute to work every day, our car is desperately in need to be fixed. Unfortunately, it will cost us $700 to fix the blown head gasket. We are still saving up to fix this problematic car.

About a month ago we bought a used Plymouth Breeze. We noticed a small oil leak and had it checked. The mechanic told us it was the head gasket. We did some research online and found out that Chrysler was aware that there was a problem with the head gasket in this model before the cars even came off the assembly line! instead of fixing the problem, they produced and sold the cars that way, and later redesigned the head gasket and paid for some customers to have them replaced. We took our car to a local dealership, and they confirmed that it was a common problem. They told us that Chrysler had been paying to have the head gasket replaced. We were given a phone number to contact Chrysler about our car. We called the number, and after being given several other numbers and sent in circles finally reached Chrysler's "customer assistance" center. Not only were we were told that they weren't aware of any such problem and couldn't help us, but the person we spoke with was extremely rude. My husband asked to speak to a supervisor, and was told that "supervisors don't come to the phone". When he asked how to file a complaint, he was told that there was no method to file a complaint. He didn't believe it, so he hung up and called back. He spoke to a different person who told him the same thing. Chrysler doesn't even have a method for customers to file complaints!
we searched online for other numbers to call Chrysler, but they all go to the same "customer assistance" center.

My 1999 Plymouth Breeze has only 70,000 miles, the mechanic says in need a gasket replaced, that he has seen so many that there should be a recall. Can you assist me in getting this problem resolved?.
Vehicle was purchased 4/11/02. When I took the car in for its first oil change, I was told the head gasket on the 2. 4l engine was leaking and it was recommended I take it to the dealer for a replacement. The dealer informed me the warranty was for 3 years or 36,000 and the best they could do was replace the head gasket for $630. I declined preferring to take it to someone I trust. I have since learned of at least two other people that had to replace their head gaskets at less than 60,000 miles.
The head gasket failed.
Head gasket was replaced once at 70,000 now needs again at 95,000 also front stabilizer bar is loose.
Engine head gasket failed causing an oil leak. Had the same problem with 1996 Dodge stratus we own. This seems to be a common problem with these vehicles. Repair cost is > $700. This is an obvious manufactuers defect given the number of complaints for this defect and the low number of miles this failure happens at.

Head gasket failed at low mileage.
Purchased vehicle 9/97 w/23 miles. Original headgasket failed at around 50,000 miles in 3/98 , Plymouth offered to replace 50/50. Second headgasket failed around 86,000 miles 12/99 replaced as "goodwill" service; 3/01 vehicle has around 119,500 miles and needs another headgasket replacement. Chrysler nor dealership will replace for free. Will cost $750. 00. I can not drive this vehicle due to the fact that the oil is leaking all through the engine, spark-plugs etc. I need help don't know what else to do!.
Excessive loss of engine oil. Vehicle taken to a independent repair shop and informed of an engine head gasket failure. Dealer/manufacturer were not notified at this time.

Brakes needed replacing 4 months after buying car. Dealer said was not under warranty. Had complete brake job on front 2 times, 1 on rear, cylinder replaced, shoes replaced, brakes still do not work properly, something comes loose if pressed suddenly causing car to slide and not stop. Pads have been replaced numerous times due to quick wear out. Accident could have been avoided if brakes worked properly. Car does not stop efficiently. Also, engine head gasket was replaced under warranty. Engine has been leaking oil again since 7/98. Dealer maintains that I will have to repair because out of warranty. Oil light does not work to warn when oil is low. Constantly adding oil to keep at proper level. Parking brake has been adjusted several times but does not stay long. Fuel gauge gives inaccurate reading. Appears to be empty when not. Air conditioner quit month before car accident in 8/99. Was repaired with collision repairs. Repairs reveal prior accident before buying car. Was not notified of this. Have spent too much money on this car in two years for car to be as new as it is. There are other defects that will be reported on an additional form.
I purchased a used car, and sometimes you need to fix minor things if the car is old, but this car is a 1996. Almost still new and I just don't understand how the transmission could bad this soon. When I bought the car it was leaking oil so I figured it was just something simple. I took the car into jim earp Chrysler-Plymouth on 55th and l street they told me I needed to replace my headgaskets, and brakes. I did. They car was still leaking so I took it back in on 6/10/99 but they could't look at it. I went to another dealer they told me my transmission is probaly cracked. I do have another friend who bought his car brand new and the same problem, headgaskets went bad, his engine cracked, and now his car is in the shop for bad transmission. My car makes more noise now and it didn't before. I don't know how many others have this problem but I know 2 people and myself are experiencing the same problems with the Plymouth Breeze.
