1 Engine Head Gasket Leaking problem of the 1998 Plymouth Breeze

Failure Date: 11/14/2006

I recently took my Breeze in for an oil change and my mechanic told me I had an oil leak and that it was coming from the head gasket. At the same time he told me about a recall for the gear shift lever. I asked him to wait on the head gasket repair so I could talk to the dealer while I was having the gear shift lever repaired. When I brought up the leaking head gasket at the dealership, the mechanic gave a heavy sigh and shook his head. When I asked what that was for, he said that there was nothing he could do because it wasn't a recall problem. After doing some research on the internet I've found this to be quite a common problem due to a design flaw / manufacturing defect and I find it asinine that daimler-Chrysler will neither take responsibility for nor admit any problem.

2 Engine Head Gasket Leaking problem of the 1996 Plymouth Breeze

Failure Date: 12/19/2005

Oil noticed on ground under vehicle. Mechanic says head gasket is leaking oil out of engine. Head gasket failure is causing oil to be leaked onto ground which causes ecological damage to our environment per epa. This web site documents this as a trend for this platform of Plymouth vehicle. There must be tens of thousands of gallons of petroleum oil being spilled into our environment by these vehicles, maybe more. These vehicles are injuring us all and should no longer be used unless properly and permanently fixed.

At 87xxx miles the car started leaking oil. It was found to be a leaking head gasket. After speaking to dealership it was found they were aware of the gasket being a problem on this and similar vehicles. When the manufacturer was comtacted directly my wife was informed that they were aware of the situation, they would do nothing to repair the vehicle and then hung up on her when she asked to speak to the customer service rep's supervisor.

5 Engine Head Gasket Leaking problem of the 1997 Plymouth Breeze

Failure Date: 05/26/2003

Head gasket oil leak-this has been known as a common problem for this model-why has a recall not been done when it is so well known? it is very costly and inconvenient to have repaired when it seems to have nothing to do with wear on the vehicle.

6 Engine Head Gasket Leaking problem of the 1999 Plymouth Breeze

Failure Date: 02/17/2003

I noticed that my car was running quite differently. I had it checked out and was told that I have a leaking head gasket. I only have 28,000 miles on my car. It is a '99. There is no reason for me to have these issues with a car that has barely been driven. I called Chrysler and told them of the issue. I was told that since it was no longer under warranty there was nothing they could do for me and that it was my problem. This is obviously a defect on Chrysler's part. I've spoken with others with the same defect.

7 Engine Head Gasket Leaking problem of the 1999 Plymouth Breeze

Failure Date: 01/25/2003

Defective head gasket on 1999 Plymouth Breeze with 39,387 miles. Vehicle was purchased 4/11/02. When I took the car in for the first oil change, I was informed the head gasket was leaking and it was recommended I take it back to the dealer for replacement. However, the dealer told me the warranty was good for 3 years or 36,000 miles and their only offer was to replace it for $630. I declined, preferring to take it to someone I trust. I have since learned of at least two other Plymouth/Dodge owners that had their head gaskets replaced at less than 60,000 miles. Daimler Chrysler needs to address this issue in a manner other than charging the owner to replace a defective part.

I contacted Chrysler several times only to be told that they could not help me. I attempted to follow their recommendations, only to be told that I had been misinformed by their employees. Needless to say, this situation is extremely frustrating. If more details are needed, please contact me. Dt.

11 Engine Head Gasket Leaking problem of the 1998 Plymouth Breeze

Failure Date: 03/15/2002

Around 38,000 miles we noticed that the Breeze had a small oil leak. There wasn't alot of oil, so as needed we just added some oil now and then. In June 2003 my car over-heated out of the blue. We tried everything, in October I went to have a routine oil change(which was done every 3,000 miles) and was told that my head gasket is leaking and the problem needs to be fixed. The estimate I received was about 1,100$. The car is 5 1/2 years old with very low mileage! after reading all the complaints I do not understand why the Chrysler corportation does not take responsibility for this defect.

16 Engine Head Gasket Leaking problem of the 1998 Plymouth Breeze

Failure Date: 01/01/2001

Head gasket is leaking approx. 1 qt. Of oil every 1500 miles. Service department at the local Chrysler dealer said failure was due to incompatable metals. An independent mechanic told me the problem was a design flaw, the design flaw was in the way the gasket was manufactured using multiple layers. After time the layers will seperate and allow leakage. The total cost of repair is $451. 00, cost of parts is $136. 00 for two gaskets (head and valve cover) and oil change, the remainder being labor. I feel this failure is from a design flaw and not from normally wear and the manufacture should be responcible for the repair, since it was an engineering failure.

Trusted mechanic said head gasket was leaking badly. Took to local Chrysler-Plymouth dealer (ladd-hanford of lebanon, PA). They replaced head gasket for $50 deductible. 34 Engine Head Gasket Leaking problem of the 1996 Plymouth Breeze

Failure Date: 05/21/1997

Originally reported trouble to local dealership and they advised me that the problem was not covered by warranty and that I should continue to replace lost oil and that it was not worth fixing because I would probably want to trade it in. Then when I schedualed to have it fixed, about 9 months later, they advised me that they would have never told me that and that it was covered under warrenty. By that time of coarse I was out of milage warrenty. I went ahead and sent it in to have the head gasket repared or replaced whatever needed to be done. They told me at that time that there was a national back order on the part so I did not recieve my vehicle back for over a month. Then when I did get it back I noticed that it was still leaking oil so I called imediately. It took them 2 weeks to get it back in only to tell me what I already new that the head gasket was leaking and it need to be replaced. I called them ever day to check on the progress and what they finally told me was that there was a redesign on the gaskets because the original one had a defect but there was no recall on them and that the first one that they replaced was still the old design so they would replace it at no charge with the new design but when I finally got my car back it was still leaking! so far I am out of over a $1000. 00 in repair and that is not even counting the cost of rental cars.
