The air bag warning light comes on intermittently. According to the information given to me by a local chyrsler dealer, this problem is typically caused by a faulty clock spring, and the driver's side air bag will not deploy when the warning light is on. The clock spring was replaced once under warranty on June 6, 1997, at 7922 miles. My complaint at that time was a crunching sound that came from the area of the steering column, when the steering wheel was turned in either direction.

The service man (mac) at the dealership where the van was repaired told us the reason for the airbag light coming on for no reason was because of a bad clock spring. He said that this could cause the airbag to possibly not deploy in an accident and/or even deploy when you're just driving down the road. Our thoughts immediately were safety related and contacted daimlerchrysler who sent me an email telling me the recall process. They also agreed to pay for the part only, we paid for labor. We were wondering how a part could go bad that was never used?.
