Saturn VUE owners have reported 24 problems related to air bag on-off switch (under the air bag category). The most recently reported issues are listed below. Also please check out the statistics and reliability analysis of Saturn VUE based on all problems reported for the VUE.
Air bag light will be on, or flash periodically when already fastened. Had an electrical fire in the left side of steering column 7/27/18. Cruise goes in and out. Dim/bright light comes on when using turn signal. Ignition switch locks up from time to time where key can't be removed and steering wheel locks up or you can remove key but switch is still engaged. Vehicle has been in motion when most incidents occurred and lockups occur depending on what position the steering wheel is in (adjustable). The electrical fire happened just as I exited the highway from a 30 minute trip after releasing the cruise control button. Luckily I was only 4 blocks from home. Cfd was called and they dismantled the column, extinguished the fire. I was blessed. This could have been worse!.

I have been experienceing problems with my ignition switch and smoke coming from my airbag. Anytime I get into my car and put the key in the ignition, it locks and won't let me turn the key, it takes several tries before it turns over. Once the car is on and driving on city streets light smoke will come from the airbag. I immediately would pull over and stop the car and wait for a while before heading home. This has happen several times with in the last 2 months. I'm concerned the airbag will deploy prematurely without an accident. I don't have a photo or documents, however I have made an appointment with a GMC dealership. Please let me know if there is additional information. Thank you.

"takata recall". My mechanic found a faulty takata airbag while diagnosing a horn problem. My VIN is not on the airbag recall list or the ignition switch recall list. Also the faulty ignition switch is causing security system issues and causing my horn relay to stay permanently in the on position which is draining my battery to nothing. How do I get my VIN added to these lists so that these parts can be replaced under the recall?.

2096 Saturn Vue, with front seat heaters. Air bag warning light lit, diagnostic code bc092. Replacement part 15785010 is no longer available per dealership. After reconnecting wiring(left disconnected by dealership) and turning passenger heater switch on, error code could be cleared to turn off warning light. While off, passenger detection works ok and passenger air bag is activated. It only stays fixed for less than a day. Has left the error light lit and the passenger air bag disabled for over a year. Notice about 100 or so similar complaints on 2006 Saturn Vue's here; I wonder if the equivalent chevy suvs have the same problem.
I started my car and the drive side air bag light came on no blinking just on. My car had been parked while I was at work. I went home for lunch I figured it was just a glitch would go out went back to work parked it again then when I left to go home it was on again. In the past few months I have had my keys get stuck in the ignition switch and had to wiggle the steering wheel to. Get them out. My radio screen will go all crazy funny numbers and I have had wind noise with both of my front doors since I have owned the vehicle. We took it to the dealership and the worked on the ignition switch when it was under warranty but it didn't help. Now with the airbag I am terrified to drive the car I paid for and to let my child ride in it and it's my only transportation. It looks like every other Saturn is getting recalled but this one we need help before we get hurt. I was not aware of these problems when I purchased this vehicle but now saddled with it hoping for someone to make sure we are safe like other car owners.
Tl-the contact owns a 2003 Saturn Vue. The contact stated after she had her ignition switch remedied, the air bag and service vehicle soon warning lights illuminated. The contact also stated the horn would not work. The dealer was made aware of the failure. The manufacter was made aware of the failure/ the failure mileage was 166,000. Mc.

More then 5 times the SUV has not started, and we had to replace the ignition switch because the key would not even turn in it. I believe we have tanaka airbags.
I was driving on the freeway when my Saturn Vue's key fell out of the ignition. There is nothing on my key ring but they key and the keyless remote. I was able to re-insert the key and regain steering control. When this happened, it moved from the "run" position to the "acc" position and locked my steering column. The engine also shut off. I see that the 2002-2004 Saturn Vue has already been recalled for this dangerous defect that has already caused numerous confirmed fatalities and need to point out that according to general motors, the 2005-2007 Saturn Vue's have the exact same part number ignition cylinder and switch. I am able to remove my key while driving at any time without pressure, and have been able to replicate the vehicle going into "acc" mode whilst moving. This is unacceptable that you will recall earlier model years, but not every vehicle with the same defective part.

My passenger seat air bag light started to come on periodically, whether someone was in the passenger seat or not. At times it would go off, but for the past 30 days it stays on whether someone is in the seat or not. About the same time, we detected a "short" in the radio system, as at times you cannot change the station, and I have actually had the station change without touching any selector. I am concerned that this has to do with the ignition switch issue that has been detected in other models of Saturns, in particular.
The contact owns a 2002 Saturn Vue. The contact stated when the driver activated the alarm it caused the horn to remain engaged. The driver disconnected the horn relay in order to shut the horn off. The vehicle was taken to the dealer for inspection and they stated that either the air bag switch assembly or body control module needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The failure mileage was 112,000.

My 2007 Saturn Vue has given me problems with the key, ignition, steering wheel and air bag light. There have been numerous times where the key has gotten stuck in the ignition switch and won't turn or come out of the ignition, leaving me stranded in and out of town. There have also been many times that after entering the key in the ignition, the key will not turn to start the car. When I take the key out of the ignition, the warning signal goes off and I have to put the tip of the key in the ignition just enough to trigger a part of the switch to click into proper place. These things are not normal and are definitely defective. The airbag light will just come an at any given time. It worries me that they will not deploy when I need it or they deploy as I'm driving-a serious hazard. I don't understand why every other Saturn has been recalled for defects other than the Vue for these very same items. Do they not all require the same parts of which we speak of? there are enough valid complaints here and to come to responsibly take care of the matter as soon as possible.
The air bag failure sensor lights up on the dash - indicating air bag system failure. The heated seats no longer function. However as long as we keep the heated seat switch on - the air bag failure sensor will not light, indicating that there is not a problem. As soon as we try to drive without the heated seat switch on, the air bag light goes on indicating system failure. Mechanics have stated that we need new heated seats at a cost of over $1500. The car has less than 70k miles currently on it. Reported to gm 12/2/2013 we were told it was the first they heard of the problem yet we see dozens of complaints with the same bizarre circumstances.
Bought a 2006 Saturn Vue in 2012. Within a year, had problems a couple of times with the key turning in the ignition switch. 2014: now it takes anywhere from 5 - 15 minutes every time to get the key to turn the vehicle on in the ignition switch. Air bags: the symbol for the air bag keeps appearing on the dash board often.
Car parked at work - informed horn was blowing on car. Turned off alarm - still blowing. Thumped center of steering wheel - blowing stopped. Happened one week later - same scenario. Two days later - blew horn at dog while driving - had to thump center of steering wheel to make blowing stop. Have had six (6) more incidents since April '13 = seems to happen when heat builds up in car. Thumping center of steering wheel stops blowing. Afraid to disconnect horn due to safety of having a horn. Have read multiple, similar complaints on internet - focuses mainly on '02 and '03 Saturn Vue. Wondering if there is a recall? have seen estimates for repair of horn switches and airbags above $700. 00. Seems to be chronic problem - could lead to fire in airbag due to faulty switch???? very concerned. Thank you! mr. Earlane cox lexington, ky.
The contact owns a 2007 Saturn Vue. The contact stated that after inserting the key into the ignition switch the driver was unable to turn the ignition switch to start the vehicle. The vehicle was taken to the dealer, who stated that the key needed to be replaced. The key was replaced but the failure reoccurred. The contact also indicated that the air bag sensor light illuminated off and on. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The VIN was not available. The failure mileage was 100,000.
The air bag light on the dash came on and went off for several weeks and when this would happen, the air bag stated it was not on even when someone was sitting in the front passenger seat. I took it the gm dealer in my area and was told that the air bag sensor and passenger side heater switch needed to be replaced. After researching this particular problem online, I found several reports on various websites of this exact problem occurring in this same make/model of vehicle regarding the air bag sensor/seat heater sensor. When the dealer was asked about this concern/repair, we were told it was not a common occurrence, even though online reports stated differently. My question is that since this seems to be a repetitive problem of the exact same nature with this vehicle make/model and year, why did gm not submit a recall for this serious safety concern regarding the air bag issue? . . Updated 04/25/13.
My horn started blowing early 1 morning and I had to disconnect my horn the switch went out the horn switch is in the air bag assembly. This was a common problem with the 2003 Saturn Vue.
Horn starting sounding off, kept sounding until battery died. Horn switch is in the steer wheel and connected to the airbag. Only way to fix is by having horn fuse in plugged. This is a major safety issue.
Several issues with 2006 Saturn Vue to report: - air bag light comes on virtually every time the car is started. There is no one in the passenger seat - ignition - key can be removed from ignition switch while motor is running - ignition - key is virtually impossible to turn unless it is cajoled repeatedly. Typical start up time is in excess of 5 minutes to find the "sweet spot". "sweet spot" tends to move on a daily basis. No particular technique works every time - ignition - key will become stuck in the ignition switch. Results in a two to five minute careful tug of war with the car in order to remove the key. Ignition switch had this problem before and was replaced (at owners expense of $214 dollars) and things were fine for approximately two years. Now the symptoms (see above) have returned. - power locks - unable to lock doors (any) with drivers side lock controls.
I own a 2006 Saturn Vue awd in the 2 years I have owned the car here is a list of what has been replaced; 3 set of front brake rotors due to excessive warping to a point where they cant be turned which resulted in a shimmy of the steering wheel when the brakes are applied that keeping control was almost impossible. 2)rear wheel bearings at 25,000mi. 3) front strut mounts also at 25,000 mi. 4) pass seat air bag/seat heater module($907 one wont work without the other) 5) rear wiper motor6) windshield washer pump 6) gas tank vent valve solenoid switch (this makes the engine light com on) 7)3 yes 3 radios. 8) upper pass. Seat heater element.
Our 2006 Saturn Vue was purchased from a Saturn dealership with just over 36000 miles on it and had this airbag light problem when purchased. We didn't know it was a problem until after we had it for a while. The passenger airbag light is in the off position almost all the time and once in a while when an adult is in the seat will switch rapidly back and forth but only on momentarily. The airbag light on the dash cluster is also illuminated when the passenger light is in the off position.
1st issue. Both heated seats went out. Then passenger airbag sometimes goes off even with passenger sitting in chair. I can reset airbag with passenger heated seat button. This happens all the time and is very dangerous for passenger. Key switch locks and I have to jiggle steering wheel to release.
I have contacted gm several times to be passed on, hoping I will go away. I have had several problems with my Saturn a new transmission was installed at 8,500 miles. After the warranty I had to replace the main brain. I called approximately 2 months ago to tell them about the ignition switch. My key will pull right out while the car is running and my air bag light comes on. They want me to pay to see what is going on. I know this model isn't in the recall, but I have spoken to r barkivitoch who's wife has one and a friend of mine his brothers does the same thing. They don't want to admit that there is a problem with the ignition. It also stalls and has that was why they replaced the main brain. I feel like my vehicle is a death trap and I am stuck in it and hoping I don't get killed while driving it. I want an investigation into this make and model. I don't want to become one the statistics because gm won't admit that there is problem like they have with all the other recalled vehicles.
Consumer complaint deactivation of 2006 Saturn Vue air bag. ***transferred to tis*** the consumer request that an air bag on/off switch be installed on the driver's side of the vehicle. The consumer is 4' 10-1/2 inches, 88 pounds and has to sit close to the steering wheel in order to reach the gas and brake pedal.
