1 Side/window Air Bag problem of the 2007 Saturn VUE

Failure Date: 12/14/2020

I was driving this evening on a city street when my side airbags deployed. My passenger amd driver airbags however did not. When my side airbags deployed it startled me and I hit a curb messing up my alignment. This was incredibly unexpected and could've been a lot worse.

2 Side/window Air Bag problem of the 2006 Saturn VUE

Failure Date: 03/05/2015

I had just dropped off a CO-worker when my passenger side air bag and seat belt light came back on with no one in the seat. I went down the road a few miles and the lights went off. I went a little further down the road when they came back on again. The next day the same thing happened except this time the lights remained on until the vehicle was parked and the engine turned off. This has happened twice so far, the first time March 4, 2015, and the second incident on March 5, 2015. I have had passengers in the seat before without the light coming back on after they have gotten out. This is a new problem that I have just recently experienced. I have only had the vehicle five months so I do no know if this has happened prior to me owning it. I will be taking it to a garage to be checked out if this happens again to try and duplicate the problem.

3 Side/window Air Bag problem of the 2006 Saturn VUE

Failure Date: 07/06/2014

Can not turn on or off passenger side airbag using the button in above the radio and the light on the dashboard turns on every time I put something in the passenger seat. Even if it's a bottle of water my Vue is a v6 automatic with the Honda engine, but the transition between gears is not smooth at all it feels more like it's jerking into gear. When I put my car in park. I'm know one day I'm going to walk up to it and it won't be there because it will have rolled away. My Vue rolls back n forth in park on flat surfaces. So on a hill it's scarry. It rolls more than my old car that didn't even have anti lock breaks. And a lot of the time using the e-break dosnt help all that much.

6 Side/window Air Bag problem of the 2003 Saturn VUE

Failure Date: 01/13/2014

After talking to a Saturn car care specialist in January 2014 because of a loud noise in steering column, and after having been told there was no recall for the problem I was experiencing, it was recommended that I make an appointment with local gm dealership to have problem inspected which I did. When I turn the steering wheel, there is a loud noise like a rubber band is being stretched to the point of breaking. The following is what dealership reported on repair invoice: "steering wheel air bag coil making a noise. The noise is due only to plastic items making contact with one another. This noise is common in cold weather and is not an area of concern at this time". I live in a high temperature/high humidity state and the problem is constant - not only in winter. After visiting the dealership and they inspected, the noise was gone but that lasted only for a week or so and it returned and it still persists to this date. I was then advised by the service department manager to use a dry silicone spray on the steering column/air bag area and that should take care of the problem. It did not. Or, I could have the current driver's side air bag replaced at my own cost which I opted not to do because of the expense. I have been concerned about this air bag problem for a long time. It originally started while I was still living in another state until three years ago when I moved to my current address. My question is this: have other owners of vehicles with air bag problems also experienced this noise prior to the air bags exploding with sharp metal objects seriously injuring them? or, was a noise like this reported to friends/relatives by those killed prior to the incidents? other comments by Saturn owners on web site also could not get answer from gm as to cause of this noise which they were also experiencing. Am I driving a time bomb???.

7 Side/window Air Bag problem of the 2007 Saturn VUE

Failure Date: 11/27/2013

I was driving in my subdivision and the curtain air bags went off in my 2007 Saturn Vue hybrid. I swerved and ran into a tree causing massive frontal damage and the driver-side air bag to deploy. My 3-year-old daughter was in the back passenger child car seat and was ok but I was diagnosed with chest, knee, hip, and nose contusions, still healing after 4+ days. The car was a total loss per allstate. I have no idea what caused the curtain air bags to go off but see on carcomplaints. Com there are many airbag issues. Very mad and demand attention from gm since Saturn is defunct.

8 Side/window Air Bag problem of the 2005 Saturn VUE

Failure Date: 04/05/2012

Front end of 2007 Saturn Vue awd hit rear end of 2005 Dodge 1500 on his tow hitch. Impact speed estimated at 20mph. Whole front end was crushed inward in a v-shape because of the tow hitch. The front driver side airbag did not activate, allowing the driver to hit the steering wheel on their forehead. Taken to er by ambulance for check up. Car towed away. Why didn't the airbag go off? police officer said that some airbags do go off, and some don't go off. Seems like the airbag should have been activated unless there was a defect or some other extenuating circumstances (which I don't see). Damage amount estimated by insurer at $6666. 44.

9 Side/window Air Bag problem of the 2007 Saturn VUE

Failure Date: 08/01/2011

The contact owns a 2007 Saturn Vue. The contact stated that while driving at various speeds, a grinding type noise was present coming from the front passenger side wheel and the front of the vehicle would vibrate. The vehicle was taken to the dealer, who diagnosed that the front passenger side wheel bearing was faulty. The bearing was replaced but the failure recurred. The contact indicated that while operating the vehicle, the front passenger side air bag sensor light would illuminate indicating that the system was turned off although a passenger was seated in the front passenger seat. The contact stated that the failure was intermittent. The failures were not diagnosed or repaired. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The failure mileage was 70,000.

10 Side/window Air Bag problem of the 2006 Saturn VUE

Failure Date: 02/09/2011

Passenger side air bag sensor failed; possibly causing air bags to inflate while car in motion or no inflation if in accident. Multiple reports posted on blog with exactly same Saturns. Cost to fix problem centers around $1050. 00 with mine coming in at $1040. 24. Local gm repair center manager aware of issue & highly suggested I advise NHTSA as this is considered a safety issue! frustrated that Saturn did not issue a recall. Report made to Chevrolet @ 800-222-1020 with reference #71-934029515.

11 Side/window Air Bag problem of the 2008 Saturn VUE

Failure Date: 01/02/2008

Airbag issue - rear side curtain airbags were tested by the iihs and found to be faulty - they did not inflate quickly enough, allowing the rear occupants' heads to hit the window. It is stated on the iihs website that gm redesigned these airbags and that models manufactured after December 2007 have the new airbags that inflate more quickly and extend further and have fixed this problem. Upon contacting gm customer service canada, they told me that they were unaware of this information and that the vehicle has no safety issues and "meets and exceeds. . . Government standards. " they told me that should a recall be issued, I will be informed. I cannot understand why gm would invest money in fixing a problem that supposedly doesn't exist. When I told the gm customer service person this, they said that they are always looking to improve their products and that although there was no safety issue with the old airbags, that they redesigned them anyway. Of course, when I asked for a letter stating that there was no known safety issue with the airbags in my Vue and that they will perform up to the standards of the newly designed airbags, they declined. Typical bureaucratic nonsense - I am very upset at gm's attitude and am seriously considering a different car manufacturer for my next vehicle. I hope my children will be safe with the old airbags in the back seat. . .

12 Side/window Air Bag problem of the 2008 Saturn VUE

Failure Date: 01/01/2008

While I am not reporting any deaths or injuries, I would like to bring the following information to your attention in hopes of preventing unnecessary deaths or injuries. The insurance institute for highway safety noted in their vehicle ratings that two tests of the Vue were conducted. In the first test, the side curtain airbag did not deploy properly, and the rear passenger dummy's head was hit by the window sill of the rear door. This impact did not produce high head injury measures, but the head protection was inadequate. In response, general motors redesigned the side curtain airbags to ensure more rapid inflation and greater extension of the airbag next to the rear dummy's head. In the second test, the fix was successful, and the head protection rating improved to good. From my understanding, the redesigned airbags are being installed in all Vues produced after December 2007, or from January 2008 on. I purchased my 2008 Saturn Vue in November of 2007. As such, I do not have the redesigned airbags. I contacted Saturn customer assistance center via email and received the following response I currently am not familiar with any redesigns for the side air bags and as advised in an earlier correspondence, should there ever be a campaign issued, you would be notified by united states mail. ¿ am I to hope that in the event of an accident that these side curtain airbags deploy properly even though Saturn clearly knows and has acknowledged through its actions that they may not deploy properly?.

Failure Date: 06/01/2005

I was driving my 2004 Saturn Vue red line when I was struck in the drivers/drivers door post at approx. 40-45 mph and the head curtain side airbags did not deploy. My vehicle was totaled,I was/am injured. Talking to a Saturn motor corp. Rep. About this it was conveyed that this was normal as my vehicle was moving ,not stopped. This does not seem normal to me,as I thought they would deploy. Not sure what to think about the explanation, wanted NHTSA to know.
