I have been driving for 11 years, I have only owned Toyota's. I am extremely disappointed with my most recent Camry purchase. My dashboard is completely coming to pieces!!! its extremely soft and delicate. Cannot be touched in heat or pieces will come off, and deep scratches are made from the passing of a finger nail. I have never seen something like this in my life. I am disappointed in the dash board material. I take well care of my cars, washing it weekly. I will probably reconsider purchasing another Toyota, I thought I was getting my money's worth. . . Apparently im getting what I paid for. What a fail!! its only 6 years old and it looks more worn out than the first Camry I ever owned! interior material is cheap. Honestly considering turning in my 2007 Toyota Camry for a better quality vehicle. Heartbreaking to see my hard earned money come to pieces before I have even finished paying for it. Repairing it out of my pocket is not even an option.
I have a Toyota Camry xle 2008. My dashboard started melting and almost disintegrating. This started within the warranty time where it became "sticky" but has now gotten progressively much worse. I am concerned because I am unsure if the effects of this melted dashboard will have an affect on the airbag deployment system or other interior structures. It is also creating a shiny "reflecting" effect which makes it harder to see while driving. I take very good care of this car and it is in great condition, only has 40,000 miles on it. The dealer said that he was aware of such problem but because it was after warranty has quoted me $1,300. This seems to be a very common complaint as I have heard the same thing from many others, appears to be a factory defect that Toyota should do something about.

I own a 2007 Camry. The dashboard of the car is melting, surface is very sticky, shiny and when touched with finger it is coming off like glue. While driving the surface is so glossy it creates very bright glare from sun light, sometimes it blinds driver's road visibility creating a potential road hazard. Dashboard surface has turned into a very soft material and it can be easily scraped off.

Entire dashboard is sticky/melting. You can't clean it and there is a glare. If you bump the dash, a small piece will come off.
Due to the deterioration of the dashboard, where it is basically melting and very shiny and sticky, when driving in the direction of the sun, the suns rays reflecting off of the dash basically are a blinding factor on visibility of the driver. It is very difficult to see clearly through the windshield. I contacted Toyota care center and explained the issue with the dash deterioration to them. Their rep acknowledged they recognized other owners had reported an issue with the dash but unless the car was under original warranty, they can not do anything to rectify the situation. The rep also noted Toyota determined the cause to be "environmental" and primarily occurring in florida, where I live. In researching other owners complaints on-line, this issue is clearly systemic. And, there are other complaints of this condition effecting visibility. Has the NHTSA investigated the potential safety concern to the public due to Toyota's systemic defect in 2008 and 2007 Camry's they have sold? I can provide photos upon request.

The area on the front part of the dashboard (next to the windshield) has become sticky and shiny. It is tacky to the touch and easily gouges. Driver side sun visor became loose and eventually fell off. There was nothing out of the ordinary, no roughness, just normal use. Loose one day and would not hold in place (either up or down). Finally fell off in my lap. Toyota said they were aware of other complaints, but would not fix for free because of expired warranty. Replacement costs +$120. 00. I found numerous other customers on line with the exact same problem. I believe this should be recalled and fixed for customers. Why would so many folks have the visor suddenly fall off?.

My concern does not involve an accident. It involves the drivers blind spot. Unable to see vehicles in blind spot. A defect which could cause a crash or could cause injury or death.
Dash started to get sticky and whatever I tried to clean it with would end up sticking to it. Over time this has gotten much worse. Today , if you put your finger into the dash it will create an indentation and stay that way. I have been on the internet about this issue and a lot of Toyota owners seem to be having the same problem. It is time for me to purchase a new vehicle and im not sure if I should get another Toyota or go to a different vehicle. I have tried to sell my car out right and every dealer is taking at least $2000. 00 off of what the car is worth. Why has this problem not been recalled? it is obviously a manufacturers issue and should be repaired or replaced by Toyota. Im hoping that you will be able to help me resolve this issue as soon as possible.

The dashboard of my 2007 Toyota Camry se has been melting and there is a shine reflection of the dashboard in the windshield creating a visibility problem. I bought this car brand new when it came out at maroon Toyota at weston, FL. When I started with the problem I took it to this dealership and the manager said my car was our of warranty and could do nothing. I also took it to headquarters Toyota in miami where I have been taking my car for maintenance and I got the same reply. I called Toyota USA and the agent said he can't do anything else either because the dashboard of the car has a warranty of only 3 years. This is a manufacturing defect of the car. I never heard of a melting dashboard and my car right now has less than 65k and this started when it was around 50k miles. Please, can you help? I am sure I cannot be the only one complaining. Thank you.

1998 Toyota Camry (139k miles) rear driver side tie rod break while driving. Purchased two rear tires and car alignment mid October. Two weeks later while driving on a city road, felt a problem with wheels, pulled off road, called tow truck. Tie rod had broken into two equal sized pieces. Tie rod was very rusted and corroded and missing the sleeve that covers over both ends. Part was either defective from the beginning or somehow lost the sleeve. It was impossible to align the car. However the tire place charged me for an alignment when I bought the tires. More annoying was the fact that they never informed me the tie rod was damaged/rusted and liable to break. I had no indication the tie rod was defective and have since learned that a break like that is rare. Fortunately I was driving slowly and no damage to the car or injury. Lastly I have tires rotated twice a year at local Toyota place and was never informed the tie rod was defective/ rusted and missing the sleeve.
