My airbag sensory notifications keeps coming on. When I start my car normally it isn’t on but once I start driving the notification will come on along with the ding noise it makes when you don’t have on a seat belt. I notice there was a recall on this issue for the later model Corolla and wanted to see if possibly this could be considered for the 2020 Corolla’s.

Indicator is on, saying airbags are at risk.
I am writing to formally file a complaint regarding the ongoing issues related to safety recall 23ta15 for my 2021 Toyota Corolla le. The recall, issued in December 2023, involves a defect in the occupant classification system (OCS) sensors in the front passenger seat, which may have been improperly manufactured. Unfortunately, Toyota has failed to address this recall in a timely manner, significantly impacting my ability to use my vehicle safely and as intended. My local dealership has confirmed that my car is affected by this recall and that the OCS sensor is not functioning. However, despite the recall being issued nearly a year ago, the dealership has informed me that they are unable to obtain the necessary parts to repair the issue, and they do not expect to receive them until at least the end of December 2024—if not later. As a result, I have been unable to use my car's passenger seat in a safe and fully functional manner, effectively rendering the car unsuitable for my needs. This prolonged delay in resolving a critical safety issue is unacceptable, and I am concerned for my safety and the safety of others until this issue is resolved. I kindly request that the NHTSA investigate Toyota’s handling of this recall and take appropriate action to ensure that affected vehicle owners, including myself, are provided with timely repairs and necessary parts. I am also requesting clarification on any steps I can take to expedite the repair process. Thank you for your attention to this matter. I look forward to your prompt response.

The safety of any passenger in the front seat is potentially affected as the defect can either cause the front passenger airbag to fail to deploy in an accident or cause it to deploy when it shouldn't, either way causing harm to the passenger in the front. This probem was widely reported in the press in 2023 and 2024. One article I read said that Toyota claimed it would start issuing the recalls for repair in Feb 2024 but that still had not happened by the time I bought my 2021 Corolla in April 2024. I bought it as a used car from a local dealer who shared the info about the recall which was on the carfax report too. I am reluctant to have family or friends in the front passenger seat because of the risk of injury in the case of an accident of accidental deployment of the airbag. This reduces the value of my car significantly, as it is required by law to be safe for my passengers as well as myself. Very disappointing behavior from a company that used to be reliable.
The contact's daughter owns a 2025 Toyota Corolla. The contact stated while her daughter was driving at 60 mph and switching lanes, the driver noticed a stopped truck on the road. The contact stated that the driver depressed the brake pedal to stop the vehicle, but the vehicle made an abnormal squealing sound, lurched forward and failed to respond. The driver depressed the brake pedal with both feet, and the vehicle decelerated but failed to stop as needed, causing the front passenger's side of the vehicle to drive under the rear of the unoccupied truck and to crash into the truck. The air bags failed to deploy. The contact's daughter was able to exit the vehicle. The check engine warning light and other unknown warning lights were illuminated after the crash. The vehicle was reversed out of the rear of the truck and was driven to the driveway of the residence, where the engine failed. The contact stated that the vehicle had failed to start and was undrivable. The contact's daughter sustained whiplash, body soreness, lower back pain, a seat belt mark and bruises under the chest. The contact's daughter was later taken to the er, where she underwent CT scans and x-rays, but no further injuries were found. A police report was filed. The dealer and the manufacturer were not notified of the failure. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The failure mileage was approximately 500.

I had my airbag repaired back in 2022 due to a safety recall and that light has since then turned on again.
I was in a car accident . A woman failed to yield at a stop sign and rammed into the front of my car at a high accelerated speed. I was restrained but the right side of my forehead hit the rearview mirror . Causing two huge knots on my head. My eye glasses also smashed into my right eye and I had a cut above my eye . I was thrown to the right passenger seat area , my right hip hit the gear shift and my knees and hip , were bruised. Apparently the seatbelt failed as well , but my main complaint is that the airbags failed to deploy. I suffered damage strain and bruising to both hands, the left was worse , I was made to wear a brace . I was taken to the er via ambulance . One of the officers assumed I wasn’t wearing a seatbelt , which was not true at all . He thought I hit the windshield but I did not , it was the mirror . I have proof , photos and all emt and er records report that I was restrained . A paramedic helped me remove the seatbelt to exit my car . I feel I wouldn't have suffered the head, eye and other injuries if the airbag had deployed.
On10/19/2024, the driver was driving down a road that was coming down from a slope and the road curves to the left. As the driver was braking to decrease the speed down to 30mph or below (she was going around 35mph from what she remembers) and turning the steering wheel left, all the curtain air bags deployed, the seatbelt locked and she was unable to turn the steering wheel. She couldn't see due to the airbags and the seatbelt locking her back so when she felt/heard scraping on the right she feared she was going to crash into trees so she yanked as hard as possible to the left and the car then stopped. She remembers that the screen flashed something like an sos but then it faded. Bystanders helped her out of the car as she was still in the car (she was very shaken) and they tried to put the car in neutral as it was blocking the road to push it but they were unsuccessful as the wheels had locked. The police and a tow truck was called by a bystander. Other than a small scrape on the right fender of the bumper, there was no damage to the car. Nothing was in the road. The bystanders asked her if she had a stroke or some medical issue since there was no collision, no damage notable on the car and the car just stopped on the road. Inside all the curtain bags are deployed. The police officer and the tow truck driver thought that the sensor for rolling might have gotten triggered but there was nothing that they could see that would have triggered it. Toyota was contacted and the insurance company was unsure if this was considered a collision. Toyota wanted to investigate the car themselves and we signed a letter giving them permission to download data and information from the car. We were told they would be sending someone to physically look at the car.

I was driving for work and got into a pretty bad accident and the airbags did not deploy. I am not sure if it was because the airbag recall I got fixed back in 2020 or it was because the damages weren’t enough to deploy the airbags.
The contact owns a 2008 Toyota Corolla. The contact stated while driving and making a left turn, she collided with another vehicle on its front passenger side. The contact stated that the air bags did not deploy and her bumper was detached. The vehicle was towed to her residents. The contact stated that she sustained a fractured wrist. No medical attention was required. The contact stated that a police report was filed. The failure was not diagnosed by a dealer or independent mechanic. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 135,000.
On Monday, [xxx], I was at the cvs pharmacy drive through when the failure occurred. There was no accident and otherwise no warning before it happened. I attempted to pull out when I noticed the car was drifting and the steering was extremely stiff. I looked down to see that the airbag light and brake light were both on. I coasted into a spot I happened to be aligned with. As I did, I felt the brakes and steering stiffen even more until they were almost 100% seized. (kind of felt like I was fighting hydraulic fluid. ) you guys are welcome to request to inspect the vehicle. I haven't been able to get it inspected, because the Toyota dealership wants me to pay a diagnostic fee to prove the airbag light came on due to the airbag assembly for them to be able to cover the work under the extended warranty for the airbag system. There was no accident. I thankfully didn't have any speed behind me. So, I just barely had enough brakes to stop. This also means that I didn't make an insurance claim or call the police. I did get a tow truck to come out with state farm roadside assistance, though. The vehicle is at my father's house. We far as how this has affected us, I'm never buying a vehicle with electric steering again. At least with traditional power steering, if there's a failure, you can still steer the vehicle, even if it is difficult. If I had been coming down the winding, 6% grade from lake tahoe to carson when it occurred a few nights ago, I wouldn't have been able to stop or steer; I probably would have went into the ravine. Had we been on the highway or even coming down the hill in carson from[xxx] when I lost controls, we could both be dead right now. What's worse is I saw a forum where a bunch of people were talking about this happening to them: losing brakes and steering randomly, while actively driving. A few of them were only at 40k miles. In each case, airbags did not deploy. I think the sensor is causing the crashes sporadically. Information redacted pursuant to the freedom of information act (foia), 5.

Recall fixed 8/10/24. Please update NHTSA system.
The location of the collision sensors are positioned too low to allow consistent deployment of the airbags in the event of a collision with newer generation pickup trucks. The bumpers on the pickup trucks are too high, so a rear end collision results in the Toyota Corolla passing underneath the truck, and the air bag sensors do not sense the collision. The collision is only stopped when the windshield of the Toyota makes contact with the bumper, or the front of car impacts the axle of the pickup trucks.

No warning lights or notifications I found out using this website. I submitted a service request to del Toyota and they said there was nothing they could do to fix it. The passenger side airbag is malfunctioning and might not deploy of in an accident.
Unknown the vehicle stalled mid turn as I was turning left, my wheel locked up and brakes wouldn’t engage.

No remedy for recall within projected time period of q3 2024.
I contacted my local Toyota dealership a couple months ago about air bag recall situation and they’ve told me the parts are not ready yet. Then I called just a couple days ago and they said that the wait time will be next year in 2025 about March or may and I asked the person working there if I would to get in a crash and the air bags don’t deploy what would I be able to do and they said you can sue Toyota. I just think next year by March or may is along time especially if I have my wife in the car too.

I had recalls “repaired”, but my airbags do not work and bob howard Toyota told me that they work and that they only check the sensor to make sure the sensor works. My fuel pump was was supposedly replaced but I still experience issues such as stuttering, slight stalling, engine is working harder to produce normal speeds, fuel economy has depleted and I’m loosing 194 mpg after each fuel up. There are no lights on, but I have a code reader that pulls in two issues. I reported to Toyota’s customer service and because they put in the system everything is okay they were unable to do anything.
I have a recall on my vehicle which there's no remedy for it yet. My California registration was due and I wasn't able to complete my renewal until I had my recall certificate saying it was fixed. Now I'm unable to drive my vehicle in feared to be ticketed or being towed. Toyota needs to do better why am I paying for a car I can't drive. Please help!!!!!.
I placed my laptop bag, which weighs less than 15 lbs. , on the passenger seat. Despite this, the seatbelt warning system continues to alert me about the seatbelt not being worn. The passenger seat should be able to detect when a human passenger is present. Unfortunately, I have to buckle the seatbelt to turn off the warning light and chime, even though there is no human passenger or item weighing more than 15 lbs.
While driving on the highway the airbag sensor light came on. I did not hit anything and air bags did not deploy but the light is on showing some issue but I can not get into dealership to check for sometime. There are other recalls on this issue for this same car but not for my particular VIN. Sure seems like a safety issue that Toyota should check out for free to owners.
