1 Starter problem of the 2011 Toyota RAV4

Failure Date: 04/20/2020

I have had this vehicle since 2013. Since then, I have replaced 3 batteries as the shop's advice that my intermittent no-start must be caused by the battery. It has been to two delaerships as well as a private shop. No one can diagnose why my car will be operating fine and then intermittently go to start my car and nothing. Alternator and starter also have been checked and stated are fine. I have seen numerous complaints in searching about my car, issues with intermittent battery issues, I am not leaving anything plugged in, making sure lights all go off. Car will start fine, will go to a store or something. Come back out and dead. I can't even leave my doors open for 10 minutes say if I am cleaning it out without it going dead. I have never had a vehicle that has had this kind of issue, if I ever did have a battery issue with other vehicles it was because something got left on. This is ridiculous that no one can determine why this over years has consistently been intermittently an issue. It hasn't thankfully happened when driving, it is literally more just left me stranded until help comes to jump start it. It works for a while, then like in this recent case, twice, in one week's time, have had no problem starting it, making either a long trip or short trip, and go to start to go on to next destination and no start.

2 Starter problem of the 2013 Toyota RAV4

Failure Date: 11/15/2018

Car won't start. Panel turns on but it won't engage the starter. Can hear a buzz noise, like a magnetized coil going off. Shifter is locked. Steering wheel is locked. Brake impossible to push down. Only way I can start the car is with the emergency procedure pushing the start button for 15 seconds. But still the shifter is blocked in parking and to be able to drive the car I need to use the little switch under the button size cover next to the shifter. Toyota has no clue what is going on. Vehicle has 45k miles.

3 Starter problem of the 2007 Toyota RAV4

Failure Date: 08/09/2014

On 08/09/14 we were driving in parking lot with 5 people in car. Started driving and engine suddenly stopped. Car glided to a stop with gears and steering wheel locked. Car would not restart. Called aaa for a tow 20+ miles away to closest Toyota dealership and then got transport for ourselves to hotel for the night. Next morning got rental car to drive to Toyota dealer where car had been towed to. Repair was simply a blown fuse for vehicle remote starter which was oddly located under steering wheel. Similar incident happened (03/12/08) while diving in canada and repaired then at a Toyota dealer at 12,101 km. The remote starter was part of original equipment on the new car. Now, we fear driving Rav4 on highway at any speed for fear car will suddenly stop and steering will lock up. Remote starter needs to be removed or fixed at it is not safe.

4 Starter problem of the 2009 Toyota RAV4

Failure Date: 08/23/2010

I am having a sporadic, continuing starting problem with a 2009 Toyota Rav4. The problem seems to appear after the car has been driven, then parked. On attempting to restart the car, the accessories (radio, lights, etc. ) come on but the engine does nothing. There is no sound from the starter. Repeating the starting sequence has no effect. Attempting to change the "start/stop" by using the method described in the user's manual also has no effect. It appears that something has to cool down before the car will restart. This has happened at least four times in the year I have had the car, and always at unexpected times. My dealer has had no luck recreating the problem, or finding a solution for it.

5 Starter problem of the 2006 Toyota RAV4

Failure Date: 09/23/2008

First thing in the morning and sometimes after work, car will not start. Dashboard lights come on, battery condition indicator checks good. Had battery tested, battery is good. Of course, when the car does start and I drive it in to a Toyota dealership, the dealership can't find a problem. No problems with the starter. No indications of starter sluggish or low battery power. These symptoms have happened several times, and fortunately the car would start.
