5 Horn Assembly problem of the 1999 Toyota Sienna

Failure Date: 04/30/2010

I have a 1999 Toyota Sienna, bought new in April 1999. On November 11, 2005, I had to have the horn fixed because to make the horn function, you had to turn the steering wheel. It cost me $399. 35. The dealership listed "poor contacts in clock spring; replace clockspring". I now have the same problem again. I am wondering if this is an inherent problem with this type vehicle. Toyota will not help with the expense as the warranty is only good for 36,000 miles or 3 years. Have you had any other complaints regarding this type of problem with Toyota vehicles? in all the years and with all the cars we have owned (we keep the cars for many, many years) there has never been a problem with horns not working; that is why I feel this problem is inherent with this model if not other Toyota models. (please note; the equipment choices picked are to fill in the required information from the choices given; not necessarily correct. The parts numbers are listed elsewhere.

7 Horn Assembly problem of the 2003 Toyota Sienna

Failure Date: 05/14/2009

Design defect on horn for 2003 Toyota Sienna. 1. Only one out of the two horn bottom contact plates is electrically connected. 2. The steering wheel is not directly grounded by the spiral cable. Ground from spiral cable is used for the cruise control and remote radio control. The ground for the horn is only indirectly grounded through the shaft. I just haven't used the horn until recently. Horn is not reliable. Some times it doesn't work. Especially when pressing on the left side of the horn pad. Many people have been complaining of horn malfunction on Toyota car owner boards and Toyota not being able to repair it properly (replacing spiral cable and relay), on my van, the connection to the relay is missing (never installed) on the left side contact plate and active ground is missing. I have not figured out how to fix these safety defects.

11 Horn Assembly problem of the 1998 Toyota Sienna

Failure Date: 01/01/2003

Problem with the horn on my 1998 Toyota Sienna. The horn stopped working about 3 years ago. I have had the vehicle to a dealer at least 5 times, and to a local repair shop at least 3 times. Spent over $1400 and the problem is not fixed. They have changed the relay, changed contacts, sanded contacts, and still, the horn does not work. For the most part the horn works when the car is stopped and cool. After driving on the highway for about 1/2 hour to 1 hour, the horn stops working completely. I have been able to get it to work on the highway by "jiggling" the steering wheel and pushing the horn at the same time while the vehicle is moving. In a nutshell, it is very erratic and virtually always stops working when we are on a road trip. This is a serious safety hazard because the horn typically does not work at 55 mph on the highway when someone on the highway cuts me off and it's necessary to use the horn. The vehicle has never been in an accident and otherwise runs fine despite having 150,000 miles on it. I've been very dissatisfied with the dealers and their obvious lack of expertise or persistence in troubleshooting this unusual issue.

12 Horn Assembly problem of the 1998 Toyota Sienna

Failure Date: 08/28/2001

While operating the vehicle the horn will suddenly become inopperative causing an extremely hazardous situation of operating the vehicle without the horn. The vehicle was taken to the Toyota dealership on 08/28/2001 where I was told the clock spring contact was distorted and needed to be replaced ($470. 00) not 3 weeks later the exact same thing happened, the horn suddenly becomes inopperative. I was told this was not covered by our extended warranty which we paid almost $900. 00 dollars for. The is obvioulsy a very serious saftey concern and are there any avenues to persue to have this problem paid for by Toyota? I am very displeased with Toyota and there extended warranty policy.
