Takata recall(?) my husband bought me a 2017 Toyota Sienna in February 2019, it was previously a rental. The van was immaculate and only had about 20,000 miles at time of purchase. On or about March 8, 2019 we were on our way to dinner at about 9 p. M. I was approaching a red light, foot on the brake, maybe 15 mph and I looked down for a second and ended up rear ending a vehicle and in the end there were 3 vehicles besides mine involved (4 total). There was significant damage to my van, the plastics crumpled and it appeared to have no major damage outside of the plastics. The air bags did not deploy despite the front end collision. At the body shop, upon tear down the passenger side rail was damaged as well as the air bag sensors were crushed. One would think if the sensors were crushed the air bags would have deployed prior. In order to replace the sensors it would require a new wiring harness and to replace that would require removal of engine and transmission. My $26,000 2017 Sienna with less than 50,000 miles was totaled. The airbags should have deployed and didnt. There was no hard hit and no significant damage to other vehicles (rear bumpers) or to my husband or myself. My first concern is the air bags not deploying, the second is having had the van totaled over a minor rear end collision .

The contact called on behalf of the owner of a 2015 Toyota Sienna. Upon starting the vehicle, the traction indicator illuminated and an abnormal noise was heard coming from the engine compartment. The vehicle was taken to the plaza Toyota dealer (2721 nostrand Ave, brooklyn, NY 11210, 347-983-5652) where it was diagnosed with an unknown wiring failure due to rodents entering the engine compartment. The vehicle owner had the vehicle repaired, but was unaware of the repair specifics. The failure recurred three months later and the vehicle was taken back to the same dealer where it was diagnosed that the wiring was destroyed again by rodents. The vehicle was not repaired again. The manufacturer was made aware of the failures and referred the contact back to the dealer. The failure mileage was 16,382.

My 2016 Toyota Sienna that has 16,000 miles was parked at home and I went to go start it and it stalled. The car was towed to hendrick Toyota of apex, nc and they told me that rodents chewed threw the wiring and it was not covered by my warranty. I have complained to both the dealership and to Toyota. I have had another Toyota parked in within the same proximity for over 15 years. I have never had rodent issues with it. I am concerned for the safety of my family. Iif there are mice living inside the car, they could be leaving rat droppings that could be harmful to both of them. I am angry and concerned and don't understand why, when other vehicles parked in the same location aren't experiencing the same problem. After further research I found that auto manufacturers in order to go green are using soy based products on wires instead of petroleum. They are using sugar in their plastics. Rice husks in their interiors. All this stuff attracts rodents. This is unacceptable! my dealership said they are seeing at least 2 rodent damaged vehicles a week. Toyota needs to fix this problem, change the materials they use, and cover it under warranty. There have been several class action lawsuits against Toyota for this issue. . Read more...

There are multiple issues with this vehicle that cause/have caused safety concerns. During night time driving, the illuminated cruise control stalk will blink on and off intermittently. This has caused the driver to almost rear-end multiple cars as the flickering light takes the driver's eyes from the road. It was found that there is an intermittent high resistance connection with up to a 9 volt drop at times. Despite the steering column being switched out and the problem being fixed temporarily, the problem returns. There is something in this vehicle causing the wiring in the steering column to short out. Not only is the flickering light very distracting causing a safety issue with a possible vehicular accident, but the chance of the faulty wiring causing a fire is also a safety issue. Another issue that has been found with this vehicle involves the engine. While sitting at a stop light, the vehicle's rpm all of a sudden revved up and the entire engine began shaking. If the driver had not had their foot on the brake at the time this happened, this could have caused the driver to lose control of the vehicle, posing a safety issue.

Our Toyota Sienna 2006 airbag light had been going on and off on the instrument panel. Took it to the Toyota dealership, they insist they have never heard of this problem. There are multiple complaints on the internet for this model and year. Not to mention other models being recalled for the same problem. . They are not diagnosing the cause but trying to replace the entire system. (wiring harness, sensors and airbags) I believe an investigation as to the faulty component or components are in order. Are the replacement parts they are wanting to use the same as they faulty ones. Are any of they airbag components in the Sienna the same as the Toyota highlander. (sensors chips, wiring harness). The dealership says they are using the same components that were originally were installed. Have read multiple forum complaints of people on there second or third total replacement of the entire airbag system. The dealership said it could take one to two months to get the parts because of national shortage. Again a shortage, are too many Siennas have the same problem, or are the components that are faulty similar to the highlander and are being used in that recall.
The contact owns a 2007 Toyota Sienna. The contact stated that the air bag warning lamp was illuminated. The vehicle was taken to the dealer who diagnosed that the right front seat air bag and wiring harness were defective and needed to be replaced. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure but did not offer any assistance since the vehicle was no longer under warranty. The vehicle was not repaired. The failure and current mileage was 112,000.

The air bag warning light came on. I took the vehicle into the dealership to have it looked at. The result was that the wiring harness for the seat sensor on the passenger side has corroded creating an open circuit. They gave me an estimate to replace the wiring harness and air bag (which has been apparently damaged due to the corroded harness) to a total of $3,000. Wiring harnesses do no€™t corrode in 5 years unless the part was defective at installation. Since the srs system is a major part of the vehicle'€™s safety systems and the system was designed to operate as a whole, repair is mandatory in order to insure occupant safety. Searching the internet there are literally 100s of instances of the exact same issue with the 2006 and 2007 model years. The fact that this issue is a fault in the vehicle€™s safety system and the high incident of this failure occurring I believe justifies a recall for repair of the system by the manufacturer.
I had trouble accelerating up a hill and stalling and turning off on the road. I took my vehicle to my Toyota dealership for inspection and was told that rodents or such type had chewed on the electrical wiring harness because of the insulation materials attractiveness. After been first offended, I then remembered seeing a squirrel near the vehicle I presumed innocently taking shade from the hot florida sun. During that time I parked my vehicle in my driveway outside. I advised the dealership of this and they confirmed that indeed such animal would liking have chewed on the harness wiring causing the issue at hand. I paid out of pocket for this repair since I was told it was not under warranty. It has come to my attention that the Toyota dealership was aware of this type of animal and the attraction to the soy based insulation around the electrical wiring harness. There now are two class action cases regarding this matter with Toyota.

2006 Toyota Sienna (approx. 89,000 miles) suddenly had flashing airbag light come on April 25, 2011. Vehile is single owner, personal use. Never involved in any accidents. Took to dealer, was told that air bag harness and front airbag wiring was bad, entire system would need replaced for about $2,400. Spoke with Toyota corporate office, they offered to by for 50% of repair. Had service manager at dealership contact district service parts manager to appeal for additional funding from Toyota, again was told that only 50% of cost would be covered by Toyota. This issue is related to faulty wiring/parts and not to milage, which is what I am repeatedly told is the reason the repair is not covered (out of 5 year/60,000 mile warrenty window).
Spontaneous failure of electrical system involving brakes. At 43560 miles, the brake electrical has shorted causing failure of the gear release and all brake lights. Fuses instantaneously blow once brakes are applied. Lights and body wiring are ok, the failure seems to be in the ribbon wiring harness. Brake functions remain, no brake lights (potential accident).

The contact owns a 2004 Toyota Sienna. The contact stated that the rear side door was inoperable due to rusted guide wires. The dealer stated that normal wear and tear caused the failure. As of December 27, 2007, the dealer had not repaired the vehicle. The current and failure mileages were 101,000. The engine size and VIN were unavailable.
The contact stated the fuses kept blowing. The vehicle was taken to an independent repair shop for diagnostic testing. They were unable to duplicate the problem. Then, the contact took the vehicle to a local dealership twice before they were able to locate the problem. The dealership found the wiring harness in the dashboard melted, causing the fuses to blow out. No repairs have been made.
