3 Instrument Panel problem of the 2014 Toyota Sienna

Failure Date: 05/24/2014

My 2014 Toyota Sienna does not have the dashboard instrument lights on when driving. The instrument cluster is hooded to shield it from sunlight. Auxiliary lighting is required to clearly see and read the dials and instruments. Not being able to quickly and easily reading these dials can be a safety issue. The only way to turn on the dashboard lights is to (1) turn on the parking lights or (2) turn on the headlights. This is contrary to other vehicles we have owned, including Toyotas. Toyota has told me that this is standard. I disagree. I feel that Toyota should turn on the instrument lights when I start the engine. .

10 Instrument Panel problem of the 2008 Toyota Sienna

Failure Date: 12/10/2008

Speedometer on my 2008 Toyota Sienna appears to be showing a faster rate of speed from 3 different speed radars in the city and county of honolulu. There is a 2-3 second delay, with the movement of the speedometer needle. It is clear, that all 3 radars show a consistent pattern of a 5 mile variance. The Toyota dealership I purchased the vehicle from did not make appropriate vehicle checks to rectify the problem. They have referred me to a local auto repair with a dynometer which is demanding a $95. 00 fee to check the speedometer. A mr. Kitajima the local representative for Toyota has is refusing to pay for the dynometer check and is indicating that the radar readings are inaccurate. All three radars could not be defective and coupled with the fact that I've also checked the speed with another vehicle using a cell phone to monitor the speed with the other driver. All of these checks, clearly prove that the speedometer is inaccurate. Again, they all show a 5 mile variance of speed between my new Toyota Sienna (2008) and all radars and other vehicle checks.

12 Instrument Panel problem of the 2004 Toyota Sienna

Failure Date: 05/12/2007

We noticed that the steering for the 2004 Toyota Sienna was beginning to get hard. Sometimes it felt like there was no power steeing, then it would become easier. I thought it was a lack of power steering fluid, but found out it was the intermediate steering shaft. The switching from hard-to-turn steering to regular power steering made driving difficult and unpredictable. Toyota issued two TSB's on this steering shaft component, and, I understood had recalled the same component in its prius model. Something should be done about this danger.
