Acura TL owners have reported 468 problems related to air bag (under the air bag category). The most recently reported issues are listed below. Also please check out the statistics and reliability analysis of Acura TL based on all problems reported for the TL.
The contact owned a 2005 Acura Tl. The contact stated that while driving at an unknown speed, the front driver's side air bag might have deployed without impact, hit the contact's face, reducing the roadway visibility and causing the vehicle to crash into the rear-end of another vehicle. The contact stated that the air bag exploded and propelled fragments, causing the driver to experience difficulty breathing. The contact was assisted out of the vehicle because the front driver's side door was damaged and could only be opened from the outside. The contact stated that the front end of the vehicle was significantly damaged and pushed back, and the driver's side of the vehicle was pushed back. The contact was transported to the hospital, where he was informed that he had sustained a concussion and a laceration on the left side of the head. The contact sustained bruises on the sternum, the spectrum, and the muscles, and the contact sustained whiplash and an airbag burn on the hand. The contact also sustained soft tissue damage on the right calf and throughout the body. The other driver did not sustain injuries and was able to drive away from the scene. A police report was filed. The vehicle was towed and totaled. The dealer was not contacted. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 230,000.

I have reached out to Acura on three separate occasions to try and get them to inspect and possibly replace my recalled airbags. They have failed to contact us back every time and this is our only mode of transportation. I've expressed my concerns to them each time and let them know I'm forced to drive this vehicle until it's fixed.

My Acura (VIN: [xxx] ) experienced a non-collision spontaneous deployment of the side airbag while the vehicle was completely stationary. There was no impact, no crash, and no triggering event. This is a serious safety defect that could have caused significant injury or loss of vehicle control had the car been in motion. This vehicle was previously included in NHTSA recall 19v182000 involving takata airbag inflators, but the recall repair was never completed, and the recall now shows as closed. It is unclear whether the recall was closed in error or whether the inflator or a related airbag component failed due to the unresolved safety defect. There were no warning lights, messages, or symptoms prior to the deployment. The airbag system gave no indication of a problem. The deployed components remain in the vehicle and are available for inspection. The issue has not yet been inspected by Acura because, despite opening a safety case over two weeks ago, the manufacturer has not assigned a case manager. Insurance has been notified, but no manufacturer or dealer inspection has occurred yet. Given the prior takata recall, the incomplete repair history, and the spontaneous deployment, this failure represents a potentially ongoing safety hazard that requires immediate investigation and corrective action. I attached pictures all the way around the car so you can see where the airbags are deployed and there is no damage to the vehicle because there was no collision. Information redacted pursuant to the freedom of information act (foia), 5 u. S. C. 552(b)(6).

The "srs" dashboard red light illuminated and stays on. On may 19, 2029 Acura "replaced driver s/b. " Acura dealer and manufacturer are both telling me that my "inflator" and "airbag module" is not covered again since there has been no recall by Acura or NHTSA. Please advise me as to warranty a second time at no cost to me?.
I purchased a 2011 Acura Tl with a salvaged title. The steering wheel airbag appeared to have been repaired with certain glue or epoxy after appearing to have been deployed by previous owner. However the airbag is fully intact. The Acura dealership refused to conduct the recall due to this issue. Would this warrant a refusal to be replaced by the dealership? thank you.

The contact owns a 2006 Acura Tl. The contact stated that while driving 35 mph uphill, the vehicle failed to accelerate as intended while depressing the accelerator pedal. There was an abnormal sputtering sound coming from the vehicle. The "vsa" (vehicle stability assist) and air bag warning lights illuminated, and an unknown message was displayed on the instrument panel. The contact pulled over to the side of the road, turned off the vehicle, and waited to restart the vehicle. The contact stated that the failure reoccurred several times. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired by an independent mechanic or the dealer. The contact went to auto zone and was informed that the accelerator pedal sensor had failed. The contact replaced the sensor. The contact stated that the failure recurred intermittently. The contact stated that on a separate occasion, while the vehicle was being serviced, the contact was informed that the power steering hose was leaking. The contact was informed that the steering fluid had entered other unknown components of the vehicle. The vehicle was not repaired. The contact stated that the failure persisted. The contact was topping off the power steering fluid reservoir every third day. The contact stated that the vsa warning light and air bag light remained illuminated. Upon investigation, the contact related the failures to NHTSA campaign numbers: 19v182000 (air bags), 19e068000 (vehicle speed control), and 08v091000 (steering). However, the VIN was not included. The manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 170,000.
This complaint relates to safety recall campaigns work regarding my 2003 Acura Tl car's srs (air bags). I took my car to the Acura service center in guaynabo, pr, for recall related repairs at various times during 2022 and 2023. The last time was [xxx]. The problem is that the Acura center's initial recall-related repair may have been faulty, thus causing the srs warning light to turn on and stay on while I drive the car. The srs warning came on a few days after the initial Acura service was performed. I was told during the second visit that they just had to reset something in the car's computer to turn off the srs warning. But the srs warning light would turn on again a few days after each service visit. The last time I took the car to Acura regarding this problem was on [xxx]. At that time, I requested a thorough diagnosis of the srs problem. After that visit , the Acura service center sent me a video of the inspection work performed. However, that video and the $144. 95 invoice paid, do not show that any srs diagnosis work was done. They just did a "multi point" car mechanical condition inspection. Regarding the srs problem, they again turned off the srs warning light but did not indicate that in the video or the invoice. A few days later, the srs warning came back on again. I called the national Honda hq offices in the California, a few months ago. I expressed my frustration with the Acura dealer's failure to resolve this safety problem. They told me that they could not do anything, that I have to go back to the Acura dealer in pr (something that I already did, various times. ) this is why I am now submitting this complaint to NHTSA. I present this complaint as a failure of the Acura corporation to satisfactorily perform the srs safety recall work. They must re-do the work adequately on my Acura Tl 2003 automobile. Please help. Information redacted pursuant to the freedom of information act (foia), 5 u. S. C. 552(b)(6).

Dashboard cracked. Internet search revels this is a Acura Tl fleet wide issue. Cracked dashboard may rip airbag during deployment rendering it useless, impede airbag deployment, or send shards of plastic during airbag deployment.
There is no known dealership near my location for the recall to be fixed.

The dash is cracked surrounding the passenger side airbag and is beginning to crack on the drivers side. I have contacted Acura and was assigned case # 13709011 by email stating "we appreciate you taking the time to make us aware of your concern regarding the feature, and we understand your frustration regarding the matter. Upon further review of the circumstances regarding the issue, we were unable to find any open campaigns pertaining to this matter (e. G. , safety recall, warranty extension or product update). Have you had a chance to reach out to your local preferred Honda dealership to make them aware of the issue? if not, the skilled service department at our dealerships are in the best position to evaluate your vehicle and determine the best available corrective action. We encourage you to contact the service department of your preferred (Honda/Acura) dealership for assistance with a diagnosis. Your case will be closed at this time, pending further information. " although I will follow up with my local service department I am confused/concerned that given the impact on airbag deployment and the number of complaints that I have found that NHTSA has not issued a recall to repair the dash and reinstall the airbags. I have found a number of forums https://m. Facebook. Com/story. . Read more...

Air bags light flashing on and off almost every day we are driving the vehicle.
Unknown.
The passenger side air bag that is located under the dashboard has caused the dashboard to crack around the outline of the air bag unit. Cracks in the dashboard can result in pieces of the dashboard being projected into the eyes and face of passengers once the passenger airbag deploys. The cracks allow moisture into the airbag module which can create the risk of a faulty airbag deployment or failing to deploy which can lead to severe injury or death. Given this cracking is extremely common in the 3rd generation Tl, it must be a product defect. This dangerous defect should be repaired by Acura with a dash replacement so the air bag will function as intended at time of manufacture.
The car dashboard is severely cracking. More specifically, there is an area on the right passenger side that has cracked outlining where the airbag is located. It is feared that due to this cracking the airbag may falsely break free at any time.
In an auto collision where a car rear end the vehicle from an idle position into an 18-foot box truck in front which was also idle. The vehicle smashed in the front and back which it was deemed a total loss and the airbag did not deploy. This caused the driver to have several injuries including a head concussion. When contacted the dealer service department where recall maintenance had been performed, I was instructed to contact the airbag manufacturer. The vehicle inspected by insurance adjuster (geico). There were no warning lamps or messages prior to the failure of the airbag deploy.
My Acura Tl has many issues and is dangerous to drive.

The owns a 2005 Acura Tl. The contact stated the entire dashboard has busted open, where everything is visible. The airbag lights have been illuminated on the instrument panel. The vehicle has not been diagnosed. The vehicle has not been repaired. The manufacturer has not been notified of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 100,000.
I have owned this vehicle for about 9 years and been seeing major cracks in the ip trim, around passenger airbag area. The cracks started to develop about 5 years ago. They were insignificant in the beginning but have accelerated very quickly over the past year or so and seem to be getting worse by the month. I am concerned that these cracks would result in malfunctioning of passenger side airbag in an accident. I purchased this vehicle used and there has not been an accident since I have owned it.
Dash is cracked air bag is not secure seat are torn.

Check airbag sensor keeps coming on intermittently.
There are cracks forming on the dashboard of my 2005 Acura Tl that I have researched and found are chronic issues in the 2004-2008 Tl, and might compromise the ability of the airbag to deploy properly (either prematurely or not at all when expected to imnan accident). I've watched my dashboard go from having 1 crack 5-10 years ago to forming 2 more recently (for a total of 3) and have concerns after researching this as a common defect for the 2004-2008 generation of Tl, and yet Acura has not had a recall to fix this completely free of charge to the vehicle owner with no time limitation on when this can be honored. . The dashboard on 3rd generation Acura Tl has a design defect to where they will crack all over. In the event of a crash which results in a passenger-side dashboard airbag deployment, the dashboard can rip uncontrollably and send shards of rubber flying at everyone's face in the car and prevent the airbag from deploying properly. This is a very well known problem with this generation of Acura Tl and the dealership refuses to address as a warrantied safety concern.
The airbag warning indicator keeps appearing. When message is pressed it says that airbag may not deploy when needed. States to turn car off and restart to see if indicator disappears- if reappear take to dealership to inspect.

Prolonged high temperatures and/ or high humidity cause the dashboard to crack along the right side of the passenger side airbag. In a matter of days, the crack spreads all over the airbag area and dashboard. The material defect effects Acura Tls and Tl types from 2004-2008. Cracks in the dashboard can result in pieces of the dashboard being projected into the eyes and face of passengers once the passenger airbag deploys. The cracks allow moisture and debris into the airbag module which I believe could create the risk of a faulty airbag deployment or failing to deploy which can lead to sever injury or death.
I noticed a vertical straight line/crack in the dashboard of my 2008 Acura Tl located on the passenger side, which is directly in the area of the air bag system. Oddly enough it seemed to appear literally overnight. I’ve noticed the crack seems to expand when in cooler temperatures, however the crack appears to fuse back together when the temperature is warmer and/or hot outside, which is concerning in itself. My vehicle has been stored in a garage since it’s purchase and when not in use a sunshade is used to protect the dash when exposed outside. I am very concerned that there may be a bigger problem with the air bag system that may result in the air bags being inadvertently deployed resulting in an accident, injury or even greater death. Internet searches reveal this a common problem among individuals similarly situated with the same make and model, and Acura is apparently aware. My vehicle is regularly serviced and maintained at the Acura dealership in memphis. I have reached out to the dealership regarding this issue, however I have not heard back from them regarding a possible resolution. I believe this issue warrants some type of safety recall before someone or their loved ones become seriously injured.
I noticed that my power steering hose is all dirty and full of built up power steering fluid and my airbag light in the dash screen does not come off. I’m concerned the air bag will fail in the events of an accident.
I was driving home when my air bag on driver side deployed.
Check airbag system.

Takata recall. The contact owns a 2000 Acura Tl. The contact received notification of NHTSA campaign number: 20v027000 (air bags) however, the part to do the recall repair was not available. The contact stated that the manufacture had exceeded a reasonable amount of time for the recall repair. The contact called apple valley Honda (400 highline dr, east wenatchee, wa 98802) where it was confirmed that parts were not available. The contact was referred to carter Acura (21515 hwy 99, lynnwood, wa 98036) and was informed that the part was available. The contact stated that the dealer was located 130 miles away and she was 82 years old and was unable to drive that far to have the vehicle repaired. The manufacturer was made aware of the issue and informed the contact that she would receive a callback however, the contact had not received the callback. The contact had not experienced a failure. Parts distribution disconnect.
We purchased this car new in 2004! this car has never had a airbag recall. I'm very concerned this year, make and model was overlooked concerning the airbag recall. Every single model and year around this 2004 Acura Tl was recalled for the airbag replacement. We constantly check for updates to assure we do not miss a notice. Is there anything that can be done to assure our 2004 Tl airbag is safe?.
~tl-the contact owns a 2001 Acura Tl. The contact stated that he received a NHTSA recall letter number 20v027000 (air bags). The contact took the vehicle into the dealer flow Acura 4952 new centre dr, wilmington, nc 28403 (910) 218-7070. During the recall repair they told the contact they did not have the right parts and said they would call him back. The dealer called back and said that the manufacturer rep said they did not make that airbag part since the vehicle was old. The vehicle was not able to pass inspection since the repair shorted out several functions. The vehicle was unrepaired with a defective air bag while the dealer looks for another part. The failure mileage was 190,000. Tf.
