1 Brake Fluid Leak problem of the 2002 Chevrolet Astro

Failure Date: 04/19/2015

I got in my van to drive to a store and the brake pedal went right to the floor. There was brake fluid leaking from near the rear tire. The steel hard brake line running from the abs unit to the rear axle is rusted through and is leaking. This was a sudden event. Also the fuel lines look to be just as bad. I'm sure stainless steel lines would not have added much to the vehicles cost and would have prevented this hazard and expense.

2 Brake Fluid Leak problem of the 1999 Chevrolet Astro

Failure Date: 07/08/2014

I have 2- chevy Astro vans. 1-1998, 1-1999. The 1999 has corroded break lines and gas lines. The main break lines are corroded into. I was comming back from a long trip yesterday and I noticed that the breaks were soft. When I got home upon inspection I checked the break fluid and it was low. I filled it. I nooticed a puddle of fluid by the back tire. And looked, I discovered all of the break and gas lines were eat up with corrosion. Gm needs to take this as a very serious problem and fix it immediately. I could have been killed , or I could have killed someone if the breaks failed to hold. I inspected the 1998 Astro van to see if it had a problem to. And upon doing so discovered it is fine, no problems. I have pics of both vans the pics will show that my statement is true. I bought the 1999 van (the one with corroded lines) in the state of ohio. And I bought the 1998 van in alabama. I do not know why this is, but I know I am not the only one with a faulty gm product with corrosive break and gas lines. I am very thankful I discovered this before tragedy happened. This is a potential deadly problem, and gm needs to resolve this before someone looses their life, not after. Any help with getting this resolved is greatly appreciated! I just want to let unsuspecting gm owners know about this danger!.

3 Brake Fluid Leak problem of the 2003 Chevrolet Astro

Failure Date: 08/13/2012

Complete brake failure due to rusting brake lines. The previous day this vehicle was pulling a small trailer on a michigan interstate highway. The following day it was parked in my driveway and a wet area was visible on the concrete. It was brake fluid on the ground that had dripped from the rusted brake line and drained the master cylinder reservoir. I discovered this when moving the vehicle to try and determine the cause of the fluid leak. The brake line had completely rusted through! fortunately this did not happen the previous day as it could easily have been fatal. The vehicle was towed to the gm dealership. There are no replacement parts for the brake lines and none are available in the aftermarket. The dealer wanted over $1700 to replace the lines and said there may be more items to replace - possibly another $700 or more. Plus, fuel lines were also rusting and they should be replaced too. This could easily have been a fatal incident or extreme damage as the brakes were completely useless in my driveway and I had to put the vehicle into reverse to stop it, even at a very slow speed. I have had other vehicles for a much longer time - including gm - and never had anything like this before.
